HI guys! I need help with compiling Bochs for android, Bochs is a virtual machine that emulates diffrent Operating systems on android such as windows 98,XP and many others!
Korv2003 compiled bochs 2.5.1 for android back in 2008 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389700
but no one has compiled it since then and we are not getting any new versions out. Me and alot more would be extremely glad if someone that knows how to compile these files could compile the new Bochs versions 2.6.1 and beyond, for android!
The newer versions are both faster and have more features! So please anyone that knows how to do this help out !

Bump
it seems that no one is interested in this project. i'd love to see any new version because the 2.5.1 out there is really out of date and slow as hell. i've read that newer versions are speed up to 50%. i can't understand why no1 tries to port version 2.6.6 to android.

I can take a crack at it. I'm not a pro at porting apps. I just recently learned how so don't hold your breath. I will give it the ol' college try though

Did you manage to do it?
Hopefully someone will post the latest version..
It's already been done. Check here, you can compile it yourself. There's a build file for each operating system and instructions for android in the Android folder. Not my work, just a lucky find. https://github.com/lubomyr/bochs?files=1
tried this version (russian), but you can try use google translate.
in russian 4pda. ru there is detailed manual for 2.6.8 .
just search BOCHS для Android, Эмулятор Pentium PC для Андроид

Hi,
I'm new here and have been looking at some tutorials on rom kitchens and rom ediing for my HTC Wildfire. I was jst wondering how to port, say, the android 2.3 rom or something from the android SDK and use it on my phone. I'd also like to know how easy/hard it is.
Thanks,

Do you know anything about programming? Do you know anything about Linux? Do you have any driver building experience?
I f you answer no to anyone of these, I would say it's extremely hard.
Thanks. I don't really know much about any of those things (Except a tiny bit about linux) oh well...

hey why give up so easily? if you really wanted to learn there are so many threads to get you started. first get a linux distro, ubuntu recommended for most people.
there's dsixia's kitchen around somewhere. play with that a little. read the script's he uses in that kitchen. you'll learn a bit.
then onto building. cyanogen's wiki shows how to build from source and set up your machine to sync with it etc etc. get those sorted and try learn the above mentioned
Cool!
Are there any links to these (Or are we not allowed to post them?)
Does it have to be a linux distro? Can I use OSX?
Hacking is cool, but the problem is that it is very hard, and demands a lot of experience.

Sorry about bringing back this old thread, but I'm also interested in this. I have programming experience with C, C++, C# and Java. I've also developed apps for Android. I've been using Ubuntu as my main operating system for a while now, so I'm good with Linux too. The only thing I lack is the driver programming experience. I'd still like some info/tutorials about porting ROMs, if anyone knows any good ones.
hey i been wondering the same thing. i been trying to play with m10 tools and been skining apk files with apkmanager for the last bit but have been wanting to port the ics sense 3.5 well at the very least re size it but cant find any guides, full guides to do this. anything pointing in the right direction would be great just dont say search xda been there done that. google works better.... but still doesnt give much info on porting besides some basic files to change but leaves out how to re size

Can't mess with 3.5 yet as they new files can't be decoded properly. For resizing you have to edit all the demention xmls on all the apks and m10 files. Lots of trial and error. Make sure you good with logcat
maybe this can help a little

Hello. I want to ask is it possible to run ubuntu on SGTab2? I mean pure desktop ubuntu, not mobile one, nor as virtual machine. All instructions I found deals with Nexus 7. The best will be installing Ubuntu as dualboot to Android(I'm using NEXT kernel, it supports dualboot). Does anybody know how to install it? Or maybe somebody even tried it?
Thank you for answer

Hi
I have found the wonderful limbo emulator but only the versions compiled for ARM android devices. Does anyone have "Limbo x86.apk"? I think the latest version of limbo pc emulator is 0.9.9. I would be very grateful to try it. I'm ultimately hoping to use the kvm for x86 to have a relatively fast x86 guest OS. Seeing that x86 kvm virtualization should run fast on the Intel Android tablets, I think Limbo could be the answer.
If anyone knows how to compile the limbo sources found here: https://code.google.com/p/limbo-android/source/browse/README, that would also be very appreciated. I may end up figuring out how to compile this as a last resort. I haven't compiled anything for android before.
Thank you!

[Windows RT 8.1] Development Tool V3.0 BUILD XXXX
This project is deprecated and no longer actively maintained as of 1st July 2019.
Deprecation of the Development Tool
Dear folks,
After almost three years, we finally came to an end. As of today, 1st July 2019, this project is deprecated and no longer actively maintained. Why? Simply because I do not own a Windows RT device anymore. I replaced it with a Surface Pro (2017) and I am very very happy with the replacement.
The last version of the Development Tool, which can be found here (and of course the GitHub page about the tool).
If there is anything, feel free to contact me.
Kind regards,
VNNGYN
P.S. I really want to thank @Qiangong2 for all his help. Without him, this project would have never existed.

For some reason after going to test signing mode I could not run the Perl package that was release some days ago. To make it work I hard to resign the dll and exe with my own certificate.
I'm making it available here:

I quickly made a script to sign apps a bit easier, simply copy it to the apps folder, right click and run it as admin, it creates a .cer, searches and signs all dlls and exes in the dir and sub dirs.
Ensure you have your path set for Windows Kits bins
ie
C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\bin\x64
C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\bin\x64
Just want to say thanks. I'm a noob and no idea how to sign software, and have 0 patience on trying to find out. Waited 2 years for this thing to be JB'd and finally it's done, thanks to Myriachan as well. The feeling is like that time I went from WP8 back to Android.

It could be nice to compile every emulator for each retro consoles to enhance gaming on Windows RTs devices.
Maybe I'm dreaming too much, but running a Dreamcast emulator on it would be epic !

Hi everybody!
I am new in this community and I am sorry if a post this thread in the wrong forum.
I want to start making a AOSP or a "custom ROM" for Android, I have some experience with "Linux from scracth" and linux in general, but I think that I still beeing a newbie in OS development.
I really love OS develoment and thats why I want to try with Android. (I know that is very hard, but I am making this for experience)
The AOSP requirements says that I new a Android device and its kernel source. (I am new and I can not post links)
I want to know, if there is any way to make a AOSP or custom ROM in a virtual machine? maybe using google pixel or nexus code?
I have an Android device but I am a complete newbie and I dont want try on real hardware yet.
Thanks for any help!

Greetings and welcome to assist. Plenty of devs use a virtual machine to build or even dual boot linux. There are plenty of prebuilt virtual machines at osbox and there are plenty of excellent guides to building in xda university

I have no problem to install Linux on real hardware, actually I have Arch Linux installed on real hardware and I used as my main OS.
What I want to know is, can I put AOSP or a Custom Android in a Virtual Machine? I mean, modify some code in a custom android and tested in a Virtual Machine?
Thanks for your time and help!

I mean that I want to modify Android OS to add functions, optimize, maybe modify the UI of the system, learn how Android is programed and that kind of things. I want to modify Android Source Code but I want to tested that code on a Virtual Machine on my PC.
Where can I get Android Source Code or any Custom ROM to start working on it?
Thanks for your help and time!

For source code you can use cm/aosp or anything opensource. Resurrection remix is quite easy to set up as they have a lot of pre built scripts to help you set everything up
