I have a galaxy fit android 2.3.4(not rooted) and want to flash CUSTOM ROM.
Can someone point me a link to a very good tutorial about first time flashing?
Also, can you give some instructions on HOW TO NOT BRICK MY PHONE?
Thanks in advance.

So If I strictly respect all the steps over there there is no chance of bricking?
I've read that thread numerous times b4 practically doing it...& the very 1st time, I was in a hell lot of tension of bricking my 1st ever phone... But I did it...& whoa!! I succeeded:victory:...& hopefully, I have never bricked it till now...(it's been 1½yrs) & I'm quite used to android-ing now...
I followed only that thread by @a.cid & it went all fine for me...& I hope the same for u bro!!

Thanks. Last thing: which one of the CUSTOM ROMs works great on Fit?which one do you recomand?
All roms under "Galaxy Fit Android Development" &"Galaxy Fit Original Android Development" r only made & work fine for Galaxy Fit, provided ur model no. should be GT-S5670 not including any alphabetic character (i,L,B...etc like GT-S5670i).
But primary concern should be Official Cyanogenmod 7 (2.3.7). U must flash it if flashing 1st time over Samsung stock rom...Then take its Nandroid Backup via cwm recovery so that if any rom in future creates mess, u can just restore the nandroid backup of cm7 anytime & it will b all back 2 normal.
Remember: Do format /system if flashing custom rom over Samsung stock rom or you'll get hanged at the boot-up screen of the custom rom forever(already mentioned in @a.cid's thread...just follow it)
Hope this helps...!!!
Ok. Can I keep in touch with you in case of something goes wrong? Thanks

In Odin, under one package, I have to select the CWM archive or do I have to extract the image in the archive and put it in ODIN?
BTW: the file in the archive is "recovery.img". IS THAT OK?

Sorry again for being noob. Finally, I can enter cwm mode but a few errors appear there. Something about "can't mount, can't do something, etc. Can I now flash a custom ROM?
Do this again...!!
Note: Disable Kies, Antivirus, Firewall.
Install Samsung mobile drivers on PC. In phone's settings, tick mark the "USB Debugging option".
Now switch it off. Press "vol.down & home & Power buttons" together to enter "Downloading mode"...
Connect ur phone to PC. The COM PORT MAPPING turns yellow which indicates that ur phone is successfully connected.
Now place BENI_v1.0.ops under OPS field(you'll see GT-S5670 on Odin's title bar) & place ".tar" recovery file under One Package.
Hit Start... Don't do anything until u see "PASS" message.
Ur phone will reboot in the meantime. When it finished booting,...switch it off again. Then press "Home & Power Button" together & u will enter CWM Recovery.

Ok, so finally I installed stock android 2.3.6. Sorry for all the mess. But i still want a fine CUSTOM ROM. I tried installing JellyBread but got bootloops. What did went wrong with that?
And another thing: from what i told you i did with CWM does it mean that it did not install corectly/completly? I did not get the PASS message, but it seems i can enter in CWM (with some errors appearing)
If the errors r something like starting with:
E:/ can't....etc...etc. in 3-4lines below the main menu, then they will vanish after u flash any custom rom successfully.
Related
So here's a short list of what I did wrong:
1. Assumed I could waltz into the world of flashing on SGS4G just because I flash my MT4G almost everyday.
2. Flashed a ROM meant for 2.3 on a phone that had 2.2 on it.
It appears as if I soft bricked my mom's Galaxy S 4G. Almost time I boot the phone, I get a rainbow screen that changes periodically and hear a female-like voice saying something about a partition. Other times I get stuck in a bootloop. In an attempt to fix this, I tried to use Odin first. The website that one of the files was stored on was shut down recently. So I moved on to Heimdall. Everything was working fine until I had to choose which drivers to install.
In a sense, Heimdall detects my device. It indicates that the phone is connected and the phone is in download mode. But when it comes to time to choose the drivers to install, the only options I get are Unknown Device, which has no available drivers, and Gadget Serial. Sometimes I don't even get the option of Unknown Device.
So my three questions are as follows.
1. Is this actually a soft brick?
2. If not, what is the problem?
3. How can I fix the issue?
first of all tell me how did you install rom and from where
you hear a female voice in the sense you installed rom from odin i guess
now there lot many custom roms you can see in the development section you can read the instructions and install them
when a phone i soft bricked it actually shows up a screen saying "firmware upgrade failed reboot into recovery mode in kies"
now if you can enter recovery mode in the phone you are good to go
tell me more abt wt u did

I installed the ROM from the development forums and it was an Octane ROM. I'm not entirely sure which one. I know it was 2.X and themed like ICS. Themed but not true ICS. (Obviously)
I followed the instructions step by step like I always do when flashing my HTC Glacier. I followed a guide which told me to download two files, a recovery and UPDATE.ZIP. I had to put both in the root of my SD card initially, but push the recovery to system\bin. Booted into recovery, reinstalled packages, got to orange CWM, wiped cache and delvik cache, checked mounts and installed the zip from the SD card. The installation went smooth, but as soon as the phone booted, the screen went haywire and that creepy lady started mumbling.
I can't reboot into recovery. I either get stuck in a bootloop or stuck on the rainbow screen with the female voice mumbling about a partition. I'm pretty sure I tried to flash a ROM meant for Gingerbread when the phone was running on Froyo.
actually you are moving from froyo to gingerbread so obviously there is a change in bootloaders so i will post a link for you where you can download odin for sgs4g,drivers may be(i hope you have it already) and stock gingerbread.
i advice you to odin a gingerbread rather than using zip file in cwm but try to enter recovery mode
1.switch off ur phone
2.hold(volume up) and (volume down) at a time and hold power button when a screen splashes release the power button still holding the volume buttons.
3.this will take you to recovery mode where you can see an orange screen
4.try to reinstall the rom which you downloaded if that do not help then i will post you a link follow the instructions in that
---------- Post added at 02:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:00 PM ----------
first get into download mode
1.to enter download mode hold both volume buttons(i.e volume up and volume down) and insert usb to the phone
2.you will see an android icon with a triangle saying downloading then in pda section of the odin put the following file
Odin 1.85
Extract the rar file
Place the file in the pda section of odin and flash
Reboot enjoy Quit messing with kies
Download link
http://sourceforge.net/projects/team...n.rar/download
just le me know whether it works or not
At this point my mom is more interested in getting the phone to work. That's why I was using Heimdall. I'll definitely give your method a try, though.
The bootloaders would be the part I missed out on. I'm so used to the HTC Glacier and the ease of flashing that comes with it.

the link which i gave you is not for entering into recovery mode but for download mode i hope you used odin before
1.start odin first
2.load in pda section the file(its a zip file extract it and you can see md5 file in it) which you downloaded
3.to enter download mode press and hold both volume buttons and insert usb cable
4.you will see an android icon and big triangle saying downloading or it may say firmware upgrade failed reboot into recovery in kies but dont worry odin will still detect ur phone
5.then odin will detect your phone by showing up an yellow area on the top
6.now you are good to go click start and let odin do the rest of the work
7.reboot your phone your phone and wallah
enjoy

You can get it back with Heimdall. Take a look at bhundven's [Heimdall][One-Click][UVKJ6] The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection [12/11/2011]. All that is required to run the Heimdall One-Click is Java. Follow Bryan's post there and you should be fine. Note that you'll have to flash twice - Once to get the ROM on there & the 2nd time you need to check "Flash bootloaders". That will get you up and going.
The female voice you hear is "Linda" and she's trying to convert the native Samsung file system (rfs) to an ext4 file system as it's faster. That's what people are referring to when you hear about voodoo lagfix.
If you flash the 1st one-click, you'll be on stock Gingerbread. If you flash the 3rd one, you'll have stock ROM (read: bloated), with CWM recovery and root. From there you could flash Octane or other ROMs if you wish.

Right now, I'm PMing lumin30 who came out with a step by step guide for Heimdall. Heimdall indicates that my phone is connected, but Samsung USB Composite Device is not an option when the time comes to install drivers. All I get is Gadget Serial and sometimes Unknown Device.
Sent from my HTC Mytouch 4G using XDA
Guys, I missed a step that had to do with deleting drivers for anything Samsung/Android from my computer. I did so, ran through Heimdall again and it worked like a charm. The phone is up and running smoother than ever.
One thing, the phone never showed up as Samsung USB Composite Device, only Gadget Serial. I installed the drivers for it, and it worked. Weird, but I'm glad it all came together. Thank you all for your help and expertise.
One last question. Now that the phone is running on 2.3.6, can I safely flash a ROM such as Octane 2.X which is built for GB? I'm going to wait for an answer before I even try anything. I don't want that dreaded rainbow screen again.
I answered your PM on this.

Yes you can. If you're on stock 2.3.6, though, you'll have to flash a ROM via Heimdall or ODIN (Heimdall, preferably) that has CWM. You don't have to worry about the rainbow screen if you go to another Gingerbread-based ROM. The rainbow screen is the result of going from Froyo -> Gingerbread but not having the latter's bootloaders installed.
If he is on 2.3.6 why are you saying he has to flash with Heimdall or ODIN? Unless you think he is on stock 2.3.6?
Either way - he has been asking me the same questions through PM and is on a custom ROM already.
Yeah, I said stock. No biggie. I assumed he wasn't custom yet by that particular post. Good looking out

Oops. I goofed. Didn't see the "stock" on there. Apologies.
Hi guys. I recently got interested in the world of ROMs. I wanted to try out Jelly Bean and followed a guide from DroidViews (I am from The Philippines. I downloaded the UK firmware.) --can't post outside links because I am a new user.
I didn't see anything about rooting, no ClockwordModRecovery something, so I'm kind of worried if I really did it right. I followed the guide literally as it was my first time. There was little lag when opening the app drawer, and returning to the home screen. The little text in the notifications bar is slightly blotched/noisy edges--very minor but I really like things neat.
Also, from this, how do I get back to my old 4.0.4? THANKS!
EDIT:
- I have a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 - P3110
- I downloaded Jelly Bean 4.1.1
- I used Odin v3.04
EDIT 2:
- I did a factory reset. No change. Lag is still there.
EDIT 3:
- Installation procedures that I followed:
Download the firmware from the link above and extract the zip. Inside the extracted folder, you will see a .tar.md5 file.
Download Odin3-v3.04.zip and extract the zip.
Download Samsung USB Drivers and install on your computer.
Charge your device and backup all important data.
Turn on USB Debugging on the device from Settings> Developer options>
Switch off your phone and enter the Download Mode. To do this, press and hold the Volume Down and Home buttons simultaneously and then long press the Power Key. Press Volume Up key on the next screen to enter Download Mode.
Now open Odin.exe and connect your device to computer.
When your device will be connected to your computer, one ID:COM box will turn green and you will “Added!!” text at the message box at Odin.
Click on ‘PDA’ and select the firmware file with .tar.md5 extension from the firmware folder.
Now in Odin, ensure that only the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options are checked
Click on Start button on Odin.
This installation might take a few minutes and when it finishes, you will see PASS! message on the ID:COM.
The device will reboot now. Disconnect it from the computer.

Looks like you did it right so far! Try keeping your phone disconnected untill the last moment (after you press the start button) .
Then take the battery out of your phone wait 5 sec and put it back in. Hold the volume UP button while you connect it to your
computer (dont let go) (Also you should have already pressed the start button before this). If it starts to download you can let
go of the volume up. Tell me how it works for you :good:

I noticed that without 'nvitem.bin' ResearchDownload doesn't work. It gives error without this file. I used one random pac file and it started downloading but failed after FDL2 file. Particulars of my handset are given below:

Android - 2.3.5
Kernal Version – 2.6.35.7
Software version – 2.3.001.P1.12065
Hardware version – P1
CPU – SC6820 (1 Ghz.)

At the moment I ve lost both Fastboot and CWM Modes. Unfortunately I formatted boot partition and thereafter I lost both modes.

Could be that you have the wrong FDL files for you device. There is a simple solution to finding out which ones works for your phone.
Download this . Then try to flash FDL1 and a FDL2 and see if it works. If not go the to next FDL2 and so on until you find one that works.
Then use those.

I'm not sure about these specs as they don't go into enough depth for me to really see what phone you have. A build.prop will do if you
have a backup of it.

Please give link to FDL files. There is none in your reply. Any way, what are FDL files??? What they tell ResearchDownload to do???
I had taken backup of build.prop earlier but at the moment I am unable to locate it on my PC. I cleaned my PC few days back and removed all junk...!!!
This mobile is made by WingTech....

Oh sorry haha here you go.http://www.mediafire.com/download/c6q2gxobccv32oj/FDL+Files.7z .
One of these are bound to work. Its a archive of nearly every FDL file avalible. I'm actually not quite sure what they do.
I think they must be some sort of preloader for the phone or something.
Also have you made a backup? Its very important.

I am new to Android. Flashed CWM. Phone rebooted. Then I went to CWM for backup. It refused to mount sdcard. I changed the card but same result. I flashed another CWM. Phone rebooted. Again went to CWM... it was working although inverted screen. As sdcard had low spaced. I again rebooted phone to take out my data from sdcard through PC. At that time I also uninstalled some apps. After making enough room on sdcard, I rebooted phone but it didn't.
Then I went into CWM mode and being noob formatted boot partition and Voila 'Phone is DEAD'. I ve boot image available with me which works a bit.... BUT how can I flash it again without fastboot mode. Its simply not powering up becuase all data for booting phone has lost due to formatting of boot partition.
Can you guide me how to flash boot.img on dead phone without fastboot mode??? Atleast it will give it some life... May be not fully working but atleast I can get Fastboot and CWM Modes.

Well flashing a boot image may not give it a cwm recovery because in spreadtrum recovery has its own img.
Also flashing this rom may not work for your phone because it could be a different phone. You can email me

I know there is 'Recovery' Partition in Android. The Stock Recovery has already been flashed by CWM Recovery. But What went wrong... I only formatted boot partition then why it stopped booting into CWM, if it has nothing to do with boot partition.
I am mailing you. Check ur mail.

Original Stock ROM of CallBar Mobiles is available on following official link.
Millions of Thanks to Company's Sales Head Officer in my country to whom I talked on Mobile. He was kind enough to spare his precious time and guided me to download StockRom and flash it properly. Without naming him on this public portal, I would like to tell that he is Great Person.
There are 3 Stock ROMs for Models CallBar A1, CallBar A2 and CallBar Tab7 available under the Modem Driver Download Section. The Rar File includes all tools and software required for flashing.

Okay so I've been at it for days and i mean like months.... when I first bought my 8 gb white Samsung galaxy tab 3 Kernel 3.4.5, android 4.1.2, model JZ054K.T210RUEAMK1 and all i have been running into is problems, like jittery display issues, or flickering display, I tried every method but none has worked but i finally found one and got it all working and running, First of all i would like to thank gr8nole for this method, and all who have helped him. So first let me explain the most easiest explanation for dummies like me, or noobs
Just and example video for visual learners http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XolmtyvS3Yk&feature=youtu.be, but you want to click on the files i suggested on the bottom lol not what he has on his screen xD
Must Have: KIES, make sure you have fully updated rom from samsung themself which can be found on kies when you plug it in and update firmware, which your android should be on 4.1.2 and version because that's what i have
1. First lets Get all the files we need, First go download SM-T210.CWM.6.0.4.5.recovery.tar.zip at his xda post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433853, after you have download that you will a friend name odin, which can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539 (With odin you only want to use v3.07) and nothing else , Last but not least you want this file from gr8ole android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip and save that to your sd card or ext while click on usb debugging or w.e you wanna store in on tablet
so you should have odin 3.07
T210.CWM.6.0.4.5.recovery.tar.zip
android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip
2. Use the same method as g8nole and minor adjustments
Instructions:
1. Download ODIN on your computer (just do a google search to find it...version 3.07 will work fine). http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2189539
2. Power off the device.
3. Restart in "Download Mode" by holding the "HOME" button, "Volume Down" and "Power" all at the same time (for about 5 seconds).
4. Hit the "Volume Up" to enter download mode.
5. Start the ODIN exe program using admin rights which means right click run as admin. I recommend un-checking Auto Reboot. DO NOT CHECK RE-PARTITION LEAVE UNCHECKED YOU BEEN WARNED (which it already should be). See notes about ODIN below.
6. Connect the device via USB to your computer. Verify the device shows as "Added" in the Message box. If it doesn't show then you need the Samsung USB drivers (just install KIES to get them) which can be found here http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/.
7. Select "PDA" then choose the T210.CWM.6.0.4.5.recovery.tar.zip.
8. Hit "START"
9. Wait for device to restart. Which means wait til odin says OKAY in the white box and the Picture ask you to reset, When the download icon under download updates is full bar, and odin says reset!, just unplug it. then restart by holding the power button down, with vol up, and home, once the samsung picture shows, only hold the up vol button, recovery mode should now be on. Select install zip, and locate the android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip)navigate with the up down volume button and power button to select) file, whichever you placed in sd, or exsd,
10. When all is done reboot device, then it will update your android once you turn it on, Now the anoying part, It will be rooted but what google play won't connect?, easy fix , first lets just update all the binaries since its already rooted in supersu app,
Google Store Fix, now first you have to delete your some things, your apps wont dissapear or nothing as long as you dont uinstall them, go to settings<application manager<all<google play store<clear data/cache w.e<force stop<uninstall updates<it will then ask you it will be factory installed<yes, next step, delete your gmail account if you haven't done so, now go to your time settings (Date and Time) and change it to recent date whichever today is , then open play store and it will ask you to sign in again, blah blah google needs sign up and it should be up and running
ALL DONE, remember this is for people who have run into flicker display problems, which is caused by kernal issue with our model, but with stock rom itself we can universally root it through odin with just that simple method which took me like 3 mins lol to do
Grats guys! you have root and cwm now who doesn't want that enjoy and thanks to developers hard work! and my ambition!
this worked for my SM-T210 also. Thanks heaps for this how-to!
Ok my device is already rooted but I would like to install CWM Recovery on it. So I can make a backup. Or does anyone have the stock kernel for it
Sent from my SM-T210 using xda app-developers app

I'm portant is that you flash always the newest CWM / TWRP or PhilzTouch Version about the new updater scripts.

Your best option is to get CWM sknce it will be your original backup instead of a Rom created from another device.
SM-T2105?
Hello,
I came here beacause of a shorcut link given by @gr8nole and another member (I forgot sorry).
But my English must be to bad, i read and re-read, still don't find the answer...
I have the G Tab 3 kids model, SM-T2105.
@bierma32 says: "Important is that you flash always the newest CWM / TWRP or PhilzTouch Version"
Could you tell me wich one is the best, CMW or TWRP, plz? (the last I can find for T210 is CMW-6.0.4.9 and/or TWRP-2.8.2.0)
More important, do you know where I can find the zip of a rooted stock rom, including that 'kids' stuff? (SM-T2105). Or will I not loose the stock rom? Is there no wipe? Sorry, I don't understand.
I want to root, because of lack of space, and the rest.. but I don't want to loose that..
And the most important, "last but not least", I could not find the zip " android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip", so can you help me please, putting a mirror or so? Or could it work only with flashing a SuperSU zip? Not so easy, right?
As you maybe can read, I am a newbie in Android rooting. Or is there another way to do?
Thanks for reply.
Here is the rundown. I have the d 850 LG g3. Was planning on unrooting phone from towel root and rerooting it using towelroot once I found the mod I wanted. I have the latest version of twrp loaded as well. On my way home from work yesterday I was riding my motorcycle and listening to music, all the sudden the music stops so I pull over to see what happened and look to see that my phone has somehow opened twrp. I get home and try to reboot phone and it loads right back into twrp. I did a backup. Restarted phone to same results. I factory reset phone thinking that would work. NOPE. Straight back into twrp so I plug phone into computer to see what's on it. It appears all my games music LG backup etc is still there's why can't I get out of twrp. Could I have accidentally wiped everything while in my pocket? Can I fix this problem or do i now have a $500 paperweight? Please please folks out there in xda land help me out. I've got experience in rooting with my htc m7 so am familiar with this stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Somehow your rom partition/system seems to be corrupted. If you want to try and save your data, Please copy the downloaded version of your current rom and dirty flash (flash without wipe) and try to get back into the system. If you do not have your rom in your internal memory, try adb sideload or try to copy it to your external SD card and install from there.
You can also try to copy your stuff over to the external SD card using the file manager in TWRP and then wipe and install your rom.
If none of these wor, you still can flash factory image by process defined in the this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-lg-g3/general/unroot-return-to-factory-stock-att-lg-g3-t2820827
I believe you can still rescue your phone. Please let us know how it went.
I tried flashing a ROM with gaps and rebooted and it still senT me back into TWRP.
Maybe his phone tried to download and install the OTA? Try this also if the above doesn't work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/fix-stuck-custom-recovery-trying-ota-t2907508

The rom is normally a zip file.
If you already tried to flash a rom (other than your current one) I suggest you try the "back to stock" thing that was referred in my last post. If you have all the drivers in place and do the process correctly (preferably from a Windows 7 laptop), Your phone will be burst back to life in no time.. Good luck..!!

But the firmware update hasn't even gotten to 1% yet and I don't know how to get back to download mode. I don't know if unplugging device and trying again will mess it up even more. Device manager didn't pop up on computer either

Device manager wont "pop up".. you need to pull it from control pannel. Once you confirmed/changed the port to 41, i believe you can pull the usb, wait for 5 sec and put in back in. Follow exactly as instructed in the thread and you should be fine.
---------- Post added at 04:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:16 PM ----------
Also firmware update starts after the "usb pull" and re-plug in.
