honestly you would be able to remove the door. (but it might be a pain to do so, everytime in a car.) I would just use a bluetooth and sdrive for things it works with the door closed

s drive is a kind of like siri that acts to read out directions or messages or phone calls while activated for the galaxy. also if the map is needed you might need to take off the front. but the case does fold slim except for the latch. I would suspect most car holders would be able to handle it

In another thread a guy who owns this case said he has to take it out prior to putting the phone in the car holders, which sucks. Another user says he uses those car holders that have like a glue that dosent leave traces, do you know what I am talking about? He says he just sticks it there, but I dont have much confidence on those car holders...imagine if the phone falls from the holder and the screen breaks!
I use iMagnet dock. My dock is close to the dashboard of the car so when I leave the cover open, it's not flapping around.
Anyone know if the Genuine Samsung Car Holder will work with this case, with the front cover opened?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-In-Car-Vehicle-Compatible-Galaxy/dp/B007Y94CPO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1381397911&sr=8-3&keywords=samsung+s4+car+holder
This original samsung car holder looks pretty solid but from the pictures it dosent look it has depth enough to hold the S4 with the Spigen Slim Armor View...
Does anyone uses this case with a car holder for in car GPS navigation ?
Cheers
I am looking at getting one of the brodit active docks.. specifically this one..
from what I can tell, there is room behind the phone that the flip may fit in.. I have had tons of these brodit docks for phones over the years.. they are expensive, but found the quality is there.. and I need the install to be as clean as possible.. no unsightly wires etc...

Thanks. But from the second picture (side view) it dosent look to have enough depth for this case with the from cover open, don't you agree? From looking at the photo there's just enough room for a normal slim case, without a front cover...

Ya. I see what you mean. The lid does fold pretty flat in the back. May have to ring brodit up again and see if they have measurements of see if their distro has one in stock for me to test.

Thanks for that info. But I was on their site and I only see mounts for the S4 when using the Spigen Slim Armor case, not the VIEW version. Am I missing something? The objective was using the GPS on the phone with the front cover opened to the back, so we could see the maps.
Maybe it will work with those universal car holders, the ones with claws. Or the ones with that kind of glue where we simply stick the phone... anyone has tried that yet?

Sorry.

I use mine in a Mountek dash mount. Works fine. I'm sure the extra pressure will eventually wear the hinges on the case faster, but life is too short to worry much about that.

So I want to put my phone flush to the dashboard. When I was using the Samsung Focus, I had a case that I used only for when I was in the car because I put Velcro on the back of it and on my dashboard. It stuck really well and I could still see everything on my dash. I don't really want to have something sticking to the windshield and my dashboard isn't really built for having anything sticking on top of it. Instead of a case this time, I was thinking I might be able to take the part that clips on to phones (with enough room for a slim case on the HOX) and just put the Velcro on that. It was a bit annoying having to swap out cases every time. I was thinking maybe something like the Car Mount Mobile Dock for Samsung Galaxy Note would be a good choice. Since I can't post any links yet search for Car Mount Mobile Dock for Samsung Galaxy Note on smartphonepedia's website. Basically, it's a spring loaded dock so it's adjustable. Also, it has these four holders that would only hold the sides so if I place it right there should be nothing blocked. I don't really feel like spending so much for it though.
Has anyone tried this before? As long as the mount comes with at least two parts, one that attaches to the phone then attaches to a mount, I would be fine with it. Though I would want something that isn't TOO flimsy either. Or has anyone seen a mount that's kind of minimalist when it comes to holding the phone? Too many universal mounts use grips that are too large.
Edit: Alright, so I looked around some more and found a few that seem like they would work. They are on Amazon: the LAZA Zip Grip universal car mount, iShot mount: mini universal holder, CYGNETT universal car mount, and the Clingo mount. The Clingo mount is the most expensive, but has anyone tried it?
Check out this arkon mount, it works with the one x. I've recommended it here before and people seem to like it; it's only $18.

This particular mount I'm not sure, as I don't have an Otterbox case. I'm guessing it'll work with the thinner otterbox, but I couldn't say.
They have a version of this mount for the the Galaxy Note, that think will work with almost any case:

Has any of you guys tried this?
http://lifehacker.com/5747897/how-to-build-a-car-mount-for-your-cellphone-from-office-supplies
Thats what I use, no uglier or better looking than a hunk of plastic suction cupped to your dash and its probably free if you have a binder clip around somewhere
Arkon mounts are great, they come in almost any configuration you'll need for your vehicle. I have a truck, so I wen't with a floor mount. Placed the bracket one of the seat rail bolts, and It works awesome! It's right next to my shifter, and down lower so I don't have to reach up to mess with it.
http://www.arkon.com/megagrip/megagrip-floor-mount.html
I'll snap a picture of it if you want it.
EDIT: works with any type of case, and phone. width is fully adjustable. Just pop the phone on the stand, squeeze the clicking side holders in until its tight on your phone, and you're good to go. When you want it off, there is a button on the side you press, and it releases the side holders.
+1 for the Arkon slim grip. The thing is amazing and well hold almost any phone.

Looks like they do make a case compatible mount also:

Also note you'll need to check for the part to mount to your vehicle. Since its a two piece modular solution, just upgrade the phone holder piece as you upgrade devices.

Saw it on The Verge. I'm wondering if the magnets will be able to hold it up with a bumper on. The image shows that the diameter of the orb is larger than the width of the phone meaning a bumper would stop it from touching the base of the orb... meaning the magnets might not be as strong. I would much rather wait for a video review of peoples experience.

I'm thinking you might need to take off the case for the magnets to latch onto the phone though. I'm worried even with the OEM bumper the phone won't sit properly.

I really hope the magnets will still work when using a case
I'm going to go out on a limb here and speculate that the magnets will still work with the thin TPU cases out there. Reason being, the Nexus 4, when nude, is as slick as greased moose poo and is going to require a fair amount of magnetic pull to keep it from sliding off of the Orb. The TPU cases will probably lessen the pull, but will instead add additional friction, so I'm guessing they'll cancel each other out.
Pure speculation, but that's how I'm rationalizing buying one

I assume they made the OEM bumper the way it is (thin as heck with very little lip) so that it would work with the OEM wireless charger. Only makes sense, but I wouldn't put it past Google/LG to mess this up.
What is the Battery status app being displayed? maybe it comes up when connected to charger 0_o

I laughed at the moose poo! It really does try to slowly sneak towards and edge if you leave it on a glass table or tiled area. I've had a few near drops.
Does anyone else question the usefulness of wireless charging? I think it's quite cool and all that, but it's hardly like plugging in a micro usb cord is especially time consuming. Does anybody know if it charges faster than micro usb? This may be a silly question, but can you charge the phone using both the usb and charging org, in order to charge it quicker?

Yes, this is a re-branded Kidigi. Kidigi website specifies that it is compatible with the Cover-Mate case so, it probably will not work with any other case.

Likely, they specifically mention it in the description;
This mounting kit is designed to provide a perfect fit to your LG Nexus 4 smartphone, whether it has a case installed or not. The cradle has a plastic insert, which when installed provides a perfect fit if no case is present, and when removed provides a perfect fit with most types of cases installed on the phone.

I would love to see some pics and a quick review. thanks.
mini-review
Overall this is a pretty nice, simple dock.
It holds a naked N4 very firmly and has a suction cup mount including a disc to use for your dashboard if you'd prefer that over a window mount. It does not fit the N4 with the official bumper. The mount itself leaves the power button, headphone and power jacks, and camera fully exposed. You cannot access the volume buttons while the phone is mounted.
It has a built-in power cord with an angled micro-usb connector that you have to manually connect. According to the documentation this supports car mode "for some specific models". So far I have not had any luck getting that to work. Unfortunately there is no audio via USB so you will have to use bluetooth or connect the headphone jack each time you want to connect the audio.
I'm one of the people willing to take the risk of leaving my N4 naked so this mount works well for me. I would have preferred more sophistication in the electronics but I didn't really expect much for the price. It looks better than most of the generic car mounts and holds the phone securely.

I just got mine today. I haven't installed it in the car yet, but it will just barely fit with the official bumper. It's a tight squeeze, but you can fit it in. The biggest problem is that when you close the top hinge, it wedges it in so tightly that sometimes the volume rocker is triggered, and the volume goes to zero. Also, the mount feels sturdy, but I don't know if it will hold up in the long run to having a slightly-too-large phone wedged in for long periods.
FWIW, it fits perfectly fine with the Poetic bumper, and most other cases would probably be okay.
I'll write a full review once I install it and use it for a day or two. It definitely looks and feels sturdier than the $5 - $10 car mounts I've used before. If it does work well, I may even try to cut a hole in the bottom so I can use it with the bumper without triggering the volume rocker.

Looks like it comes from the same build house as Spigen's wallet case. Like previously said, if it does the trick, I think it'd be a great case. What concerns me, though, is the mention of a magnet. That's never a good thing to have around credit cards which looks exactly like what that little insert was intended for.

What then causes the view that appears in the window to work. I am aware that a magnet over the Hall sensor on the side of the phone causes the S view to appear, what then in the S view case causes the reaction?
The S-view function certainly DOES require a magnet. It's not a magnet to hold it closed, it's a relatively small magent mounted about 1cm in from the left side near the volume down button. I had to fit one to my case with an s-view window which came without a magnet (and didn't therefore work).
A credit card mag-stripe will almost certainly be corrupted by the magnet, but then again mag-strips are dying out in favour of chip and pin or nfc. Some banks are starting to issue cards without mag-strips.

i'm wondering how strong the magnet is at keeping the case closed? i don't want to drop the phone and have the case open and the phone land on the screen and break
I have the official Samsung flip cover (basically same as S view) and after three days with it on, I no longer had any issue with it not staying closed. Once you "break it in" it remains closed just fine. A month later and it stays shut on its own no problem.
I originally ordered one of $12 "Samsung" versions off Amazon. The front of the cover was the same quality as the OEM from Best Buy, but it said "Galaxy SIV" rather than "Galaxy S4" (not a big deal, maybe even a plus for some users) however, the back cover was junk. Didn't match the phone, didn't fit properly and was thicker than the OEM. I ended up selling it on Craigslist a few days later. Very happy with the OEM version and the discount I got with a Best Buy coupon. I'm considering the S view version when it drops in price a bit, but probably won't risk the "Samsung" versions on eBay and Amazon.

iam using the tridea standing view cover. something like sview but with snap on cover for the phone instead of changing the whole battery door. works fine so far.
Doesn't it have to have a magnet for the S View to work??
more samsung, click here

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Smart Leather Cover Case S View Cover is the perfect companion of S4 with high grade super fabric, the opening window can answer any call without opening cover, it is 39% off on theideasforgiftom with free shipping...

I wouldn't recommend the case in my picture (not the one being discussed by the OP, I have no experience of it) to anyone. The label saying "premium leather" is a plain old lie. Even gluing a magnet to the cover to enable s-view mode is only partly effective as you can't answer a call with a swipe because the window is too thick.
See my thread about it here
I prefer having my phone sitting up right, so here's what I did couple days ago
This is one of those cheap ebay Qi charging pad. Crack it open, move everything from here...

...to my 3D printed dock.
Slide coil in, PCB is held with double sided tape. Pretty straightforward.
A bit of PCB is trimmed off to make space for the connector. I did cut off the speaker, it's too loud for me.
Messy inside but hey, you can't see them!

And the back:
I have my SKP (Google SketchUp) files attached below, feel free to use or modify!
If you're actually going to send these files in for printing, make sure you double check all measurements!
-----EDIT-----
It appears that some of you may be interested in making one. I just made this model public at Shapeways http://shpws.me/oi3O.
This is designed to fit parts from "GMYLE (TM) Wireless Charging Pad Powermat Mat Charger". Other models may not fit and you'll have to modify.
You can download the model and make the walls thinner, engrave some text/logo, etc. The less material the cheaper it is.
Putting it together is very straightforward once you have the parts in your hand and use the the pics above as references.
...BEAUTIFUL. The routing hole for the speaker is also really well-done and subtle. Is there a cover for the bottom to protect the PCB? I'd be slightly worried about the exposed copper from the cut, unless there isn't any.
Wow...that's amazing. Far better than anything else I've seen.

Can I get one in black? Pretty please!

Very nice, you should sell the empty dock along with instructions of how to transfer the innards, that way I think you'd be safe from copyright infringement cos you're actually encouraging people to buy the other product and not copying any of the manufacturing process.
How is the coil held in place?

Hey thanks, I did not make a cover, 3D printing gets expensive real quick
It's sitting on a wooden nightstand so I'm not too worried about anything shorting out.
If i ever need to place this on some metallic surface the plan is to stick a transparency sheet below with some double sided tape on the edge, this should do the job.

I was gonna get it in black but for some reason black cost more, so I thought forget it.
You are free to send the files to any shop; I did it at shapeways:
http://www.shapeways.com/model/1146133/nexus-4-qi-charging-dock.html
This is the first time I have a model printed in that material, wasn't sure about its strength so the I made walls quite thick.
With some modification to the model the cost could go down to $40 something.

It's a public model on shapeways, please see the link from #6!
Coil is held in place with friction, no glue used so I can pull it out of that slot if needed.

Yes, how I put the parts together is nowhere near professional :silly: but good enough for personal use
Wow, very nice! Looks like a premium build, maybe you should start selling these...I'd pre-order.

I don't think that's required? Is there any wireless charger out there that comes with a heatsink?

I cannot agree more! I wish my Makerbot wasn't busted.
Hey guys, quick question(s)
1. Does wireless charging work with a case on? I have the ringke slim case, the one without the top and bottom of the phone covered.
2. Does anybody know of any online 3D printing solutions where i can send them the specs and they print it? The reason is i would like to modify it so, if i can charge w/case on, i can drop it in, no problems
Thanks majorly OP, seriously a superb job.

Wireless charging works with the Ringke Slim Case, I have it aswell.
Pretty sure you can modify it and let shapeways print it....
But it will probably still fit with the case.

I think that is a 500-700mA charger, at least that's what the spec says...
