[SOLVED] install t-mobile T989 ROM or Stock - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Need some help,
There errors I'm getting are "assert failed: getprop("...
Where is there a sticky with info explaining flashing a t-mobile ROM? Can I Odin a T-mobile stock ROM? (are boot files the same) Do I need to have a i727 kernel? an i727 recovery?
Outside of flashing the conversion fix, which isn't working for me, what else is there? I tried searching for hours, literally, and found scattered post here and there. nothing very helpful, and thanks in advance and I'm sure this is an easy fix if I was good at searching.

You have to edit the updater script in the ROM your trying to flash by extracting the rom then editing the script. Assuming you know how to edit the updater script Delete the first two lines until it says package extract file or mount
Edit here's a pic running slimbean t989 rom
Edit again: some ROMs in the t989 forum already have the script edited to be flashed on skyrocket

well i just took a chance and flashed t989 recovery. it worked and the ROM flashed as normal
and just for the sake of learning how would I edit an updater script on windows? Is it safe to odin t989 custom ROMs?

[Q] flashed wrong kernal on my xoom 3.1

I am new to this posting and asking questions. I have a xoom and rooted it and updated it with 3.1 and then I went and updated it with the new rom which came out the other day. I did something studpid and didn't wait for the resolution to the sdcard not being seen after flashing the new deodex rom. I looked on the kernal manager and when I what I thought was the latest kernal I decided to flash it. I now can only get to recovery mode and I don't want to make another mistake. Can someone tell me if I can safely do a wipe data/factory reset? Will that get me back so I can flash the deodex rom back? You dev guys are really awesome and I really appreciate all of your work. Thank you for your support.

If you can get to recovery, just re-flash the rom, it includes its own kernel.
Ok I will and let you know if I am successful. Thank you
I tried to use recovery but my xoom won't see the sd card. I have adb running but really am afraid to use it without some help. Don't want to brick my xoom. I have the kernal zip but don't 1.4.4 and thought if I could flash the kernal to my xoom that would maybe fix it. I read somewhere that you shouldn't flash a zip file, so I don't know what to do. any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Please don't flash any xip file through adb! Why not go into RomManager app and look for an earlier version of recovery, maybe 3.0.2.5, and flash that. A good recovery should allow you to flash from your sdcard through clockwork mod recovery.
I can't get to the rom manager app. Am I missing something? The OS won't boot up and I only have version 4 of the clockwork recovery. What should I do?

OK, Thank you very much,,, I will be more careful in the future. I am back up and running the new rom with an older recovery. That taught me a good lesson never to install an earlier version of a kernal and never to try and flash a .zip file from adb. Thank you for the instructions. Is there a book for "adb for dummies"? My name should be in it...

There is actually an ADB tutorial somewhere on this site...seriously, do a search. It had a lot of great information. I like to know what I'm doing...it makes me more nervous to just blindly follow instructions with something like this, but I'm still mostly blind (sigh).

[Q] att firmware upgrade 2.3.6 root?

Hi noob here with a general question about the official 2.3.6 att upgrade, hope i posted in the right place. question is basically if and when the phone can gain root access. any answeres would be grately appreciated. thanx
it can gain root access now there just isn't a thread on it yet. I'd tell ya how but then nobody would see it. I am woking on packaging all the parts together and starting a thread. in the future it will get easier however if new kernel sorces are released. the only way to get root right now is through a kernel and the existing kernels have a few issues on the new firmware so you have to flash back to the stock one after.
adding a script to in initramfs on the new kernel is possible but the problem is that repcking initramfs in a kernel to flash to the phone is such a waste if the parts to build a better kernel are just around the corner.

Something like that.
There are some threads in the general and the q/a on the method.
Seriously, though, Victory runs on stock kernel and rooted and optimized uckl2.
Sounds like Dani will release a rooted package in a few days

On Victory OP, the second post has an odin infused gb kernel - towards the bottomof the page.
you can download that kernel to your pc.
you will need to know how to use odin.
you will need to dl victory..some the of links still works..the mulitload first link doesn't..the deposit link..4-5 down still works
after you odin the kernel, you will boot into a red recovery..
you will need to go to the voodoo option and disable lagfix
then you can flash victory through the cwm menu
make sure you disable lagfix like the OP says..follow direction ...you are alread on rfs file system..not ext4
if you mess up and get stuck on the bootloop..don't worry..odin back to stock..whichever stock and start over.

After you have DL the odin infused gb kernel and flashed it,
you will need to boot into recovery. it should be red.
instead of going into voodoo lagfix to disable, you will not have to do anything with it.
you will only need to factory reset, wipe data and wipe cache, go to advance, wipe dalvik.
then flash zeus build 5.2 stock.
zeus uses voodoo file sytem (ext4) ..
victory uses stock uckl2 rfs file system. that is why hdmi output is not broken.
read my help page a few times..it should help clear things up...there are some links on there that will be helpful

yes. root is not actually in the kernel for use. its a script that moves it to the rom where it stays. the root kernel is only needed for 1 boot. its the only way to move a file with root privilege before you gain root privilege for the user.
I was working on a oneclick root kernel package and an update.zip to return You to the stock kernel and update su but my update script keeps getting parsing error. I have to do it all over again in a different text editor... lame. the update.zip would be good even for custom roms because I added vold.fstab from the stock rom which will fix sdcard mounting if it was changed for a Rogers kernel.

Did you download the odin infused gb kernel from post #2 in the victory thread?
Open it with 7zip.
Extract odin and the kernel.
If you have the correct drivers, run odin.
It should show up comm## something.
Put the kernel in the pda...i think..havent used odin in a while.
Put your phone in DOWNLOAD mode, see my help page. Flash with odin.

Which method are you using to get root and CWM recovery? It sounds like you are trying to use the old method of installing the modified 3e recovery and then using an update.zip. There is an updated way to do this with AT&T 2.3.6, and the old way doesn't quite work the same anymore. Let me know which method you're trying so I know where to direct you from there.
EDIT: Since I'm pretty sure that you are using the old method from stock Froyo to get root and CWM recovery, take a look at this thread. It's a how-to that explains most of the ways to get root and CWM recovery on 2.3.6.:

It sounds like the old way using an update.zip. In Froyo, we used to replace the stock recovery with a 3e recovery that would allow unsigned files to be flashed. Then we'd flash an update.zip that contained CWM recovery. Just curious, how did you root, and is this AT&T Gingerbread?
I'd read through that how-to thread I posted. If you can use Heimdall or Odin, there are some quick ways to get CWM recovery. In that thread, I've also outlined how to do it yourself on stock 2.3.6.

To get Gingerbread with CWM recovery for flashing roms, you could flash Option C or Option D from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613523
Or, if you prefer Heimdall, qkster has some nice one-click packages. There are links for those in the first thread I gave you.
If you already have root (How did you root, again?), then you could just flash one of the Gingerbread kernel / CWM recovery packages from here.:

Before you go any further, we need to investigate something. First, let's confirm that you are on AT&T 2.3.6, because most of us haven't found or made a working one-click program to root stock 2.3.6 directly. Can you go to Settings / About Phone and tell me what is listed under "Baseband version"?
If you can do that to confirm that this is AT&T 2.3.6, I'd really like to know what program you used. Or did you root the phone before you were on Gingerbread?
Any of those links that I've given you in the last post will give you CWM (clockwork) recovery to install different roms. An easy way would be to do Option C or Option D at this one. Either one will do. Here's the link again.:

Re download the ROM again. You might have gotten a bad download. If that does not correct it. I would suggest flashing all the way back to stoc Gingerbread, then flashing it again.

Seems like u have a T959W but as I remember the updatescript should have included the T959W @ assert lines. But maybe I am wrong. Open the zip and browse to meta or so folder and find a file name updater-script then open it with Notepad++. Please use notepad++, not Windows' notepad. Then look at the first line (assert tons of things) and delete it then zip it back and flash again

I think there might be a problem with the Beanstalk build. I flashed Slimkat for the 1st time without any problems. Then, from TWRP I flashed Beanstalk as expected.
I checked the MD5 sum of the zip and it's ok. I have the SGH-T959V for sure.

I tried this, and it doesn't work. The installation just aborts with no indication as to why. Was there anything specific I was supposed to delete, or just everything in the first five lines of updater-script?
Okay, I figured out the problem in case anyone else runs into it and needs help.
CWM will always not register the phone as the one you want, but TWRP does. So if you use another ROM that installs TWRP first (like say, SlimKat), you can then install Beanstalk from TWRP.
Flash bhundvens blastoff 2.5 kernel or antonxs then flash kk reboot recovery flash again

Roms not flashing

I have recently unlocked my bootloader using sunshing, and installed twrp 2.8.0.1 as my custom recovery. I do not have any problems flashing stock based roms but when I try to flash cm11(or other) based roms I'm always met with:
Code:
This package is for "xt1052, ghost, xt1053, ghost_retail, xt1055, ghost_usc, xt1056, ghost_sprint, xt1058, ghost_att, ghost_rcica xt1060, ghost_verizon" devices; this is a " ",
Code:
E:Error executing updater binary in zip 'location-of-rom.zip' :
These are roms from the Moto x xda forum I'm trying to flash. Any help is appreciated as ive searched for hours for a fix or someone having the same problem on my device with no luck.
I tried to RSD back to 4.4.2 19.5.3 stock where i started, and took all the ota updates, flashed twrp 2.8.0.1 through fastboot. Tried flashing a cm11 rom from the moto x "crdroid" and same errors as usual. Can anyone offer any assistance? The only roms that are flashing correctly are based off stock. Is there something in the rom zip i need to modify for my phone?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2676291&page=9
and follow the directions I asked another user. It involves unzipping and modding the meta.inf file and take out some file numbers so the install will not look for specific phones.
