ROM question - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently running Cromi Xenogenesis Rom, I was wondering if anyone can suggest a good ROM that's smooth and fast to try that I can just easily do a wipe and flash?

Hi guys
New to the forum.
Was curious anyone be able to point out where I can read/download some of the roms?
I'm still a little lost on which one to choose for my tablet.
Thanks again.

Thanks for pointing me to the right direction.
I'll be doing a little research before root/rom tonight!
Super excited and can't wait to see what's the potential I'll be unlocking from my tablet.

Was wondering if anyone can help me out.
I've downloaded the unlock from Asus's
Threw it on the SDcard, ran the unlock
I believe it's unlocked, because it says at the top right that device is not locked
I tried this -
Hold Power + Vol Down until a message appears (it doesn't appear anymore on Jelly Bean bootloader) ("Press Vol. Up to enter RCK (5s)") : DON'T PRESS VOL UP
After 5 seconds, a new menu appears (if it's not already there). Press Vol Down once to change to the USB icon, then press Vol. Up to validate (you have to do this in less than 10 seconds, otherwise your tablet will boot Android OS)
But I don't see the option to press/select the USB Icon
I am using the Jelly Bean 4.2
Any tips or pointers

Didn't realize that my version won't have a USB icon, it's already in FastBoot mode
CWM has been installed on it =)
Next backup with titanium, then going to try out Comi-X!

Followed that guide, and wow, that was easy.
Rooted and TWRP as recovery now.
Thank you for your guidance once again.
Now I'm thinking of trying - CROMi-X 5.0.3 ODEX/DEODEX 10.6.1.27.1

Yeah I've been looking around and what not, been tossed up on CyanogenMod and the Cromi-X , but I think the features from the Comi-X suites me more.
I'll keep you posted after I test it out, going to do a Nandroid Backup now and install the rom

Curious
I'm just going through the setup/installation process for Cromi-X
Do we have to reflash the ROM to go through the setup, OR can we select some of those options again after the installation?
Such as DSP Manager, X-Loud, and some of the other minor tweaks
Doesn't seem tooo tedious to backup and restore, but I wouldn't want to reflash all the time just to adjust some settings....
Or it's just part of the deal of ROM's.......
All in all, Cromi-X has been installed and I am stoked.

Benchmark Results Request
So I got Comi-X installed
Does anyone have any benchmark results that I can compare to?
Using AnTuTu Benchmark atm and I'm hitting about mid 14000's.
Not sure if that's what this tablet can output to.

if you want to change any settings mate just reflash the rom and choose to wipe the dalvic cache while going through the settings there is no need to do a full wipe for that and benchmarks aren't everything mate but most people use quadrant, and goddly has gotten over 7000 on that which is crazy high, he got it using thats overclock kernel that was built for the tf700, but hunds kernel can be overclocked and that is built for the tf300 but im using thats v4 kernel which cant be overclocked but i dont think it needs to be and the battery life on thats kernel is crazy good and my tablet is well over a year old

Hmmm ok
Just curious where would I be able to find other Kernels?
I'm using hunds kernel that came with Cromi-X rom (I'm guessing)
Thanks for all the help btw, totally learning everything quickly.

in the second post of the cromi thread there is a kernel and tweaks installer but here is the link to it any way because im really nice lol
http://d-h.st/zDx
if you use thats kernel for the tf300 then try the undervolt option to give you even better battry life but if you use hunds and want to overclock it then its best to try the overvolt option to increase stability

[Q] (Q) my eee pad stuck at asus welcome screen why!?

Hi everyone,
Yesterday I tried to install stock rom again by following a tutorial which is on this forum too but since I don't have enough posts to post an post in development section. I decided to post it here
Since I installed the stock rom and kernel on my device I can't boot up anymore It just stuck at the begin screen of asus;s I tried to use NvFlash but without succes because everytime I put my device in APX mode(this works) and then run the .bat file apx mode removes and the bat file says no device found;s
So then I tried wiping all data by using some volume button, tried to cold boot but didn't work neither. Tried to get into recovery but can't boot after that.
SO I would really appreciate it if someone could help me
P.S. I tried this unrooting/stock rom method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154947
And I was running Revolver ROM.(latest update)
Yours Kasper
This post would not belong in the development section FYI..you are in the right place, only post in Dev section if you are developing something.
What is your serial number? B70 and later cannot use NVflash from what I understand so if you are B70 or later you may be bricked..
Thanks for your fast reaction! and where can I find my serial number? and if I am bricked is there any way to get un bricked?

Look near the charging port, should be a sticker that start with a "B".
Also on the back of the box if you still have it.

Kay thanks, but I removed all my stickers and had to threw away the box when I left America with the plane;s (didn't fit in my bag) So I guess im 70b+ else NvFlash would work? But is there maybe some other way to get my device unbricked or is the only thing I can do is waiting untill Nvflash supports 70b +?

Are you stuck on the very first screen that says Eee Pad or the second one that just has a silve ASUS in the middle? Cause if it's the second...it's the bootanimation so couldn't you just go into recovery and clear and reflash?
its the silver I can get into recovery but wiping or cold-booting only results in freeze;s and trying to install a new ROM (EVEN THE official of asus rom) it gives an error the Yellow Triangle above the android man;ss

[Q] Help in returning to stock rom

So i'm looking for a little help.
A little while back I used this thread : [GUIDE] TF300T Unlock/Root/Flash for Factory JB Devices (newbie friendly)
To help me install this custom rom : [ROM][TF300]|Mar 28| Energy™ -.¸¸.·´¯ Official JB 4.2.1 Stock or Themed ¯´·.¸¸. -
onto my girlfriends TF300T tablet
and I have this : [RECOVERY][TF300T/TG] TWRP 2.5.0.0 Touch Recovery! [2013-4-9] on there as well
but I can't remember if this was part of the unlock/root/flash process or not, so i'm not sure if it used it during the process or if I added it shortly afterword
now its been while since I have done it but then the tablet started to restart randomly while she was using it.
so I figured no biggie maybe an app got messed up or something, and so I told her to back up her pics, exc she wanted off the unit
and I could look at reinstalling the apps or just taking the unit back to factory rom
about a week later it started to reboot more often randomly
and now it is to the point where it will not make it into the rom
now I can make it into the boot selection where I can choose RCK (for the TWRP), USB, or the other 2 options
and I know I can make it into the TWRP tool as well and it does not repeatedly boot from there, so i'm sure its a rom issue and not a hardware issue, but I could still be wrong
the unit is currently charging so I have not had a chance to try for the usb connection option or anything else yet
hopefully the usb option will work so I can try to recover the pics, exc before taking the unit back to factory
now in the process I know I have unlocked the unit, I believe I have done the min root but have not fully rooted the unit if that makes sense
so i'm just wondering if I will half to fully root (and how do I do that if I do since I can't make it into a rom)
how do I clear the rom that has gone bad
how do I install a factory rom (how do I tell which is the lastest rom, and which one is needed for my unit)
and then I should be good from there
if you need any more info please let me know and maybe some instructions on how to get to that info
in the process of putting the energy rom onto it, I spent a week of reading, researching, and figuring out which way would probably be the safest for me to do, plus the easiest for me to understand
now that it has been so long I have been reading and researching again, I just need that nudge that gets me in the right direction
i'm sure i'm not the only one that has had this issue with a rom, and i'm also sure there is a guide out there already that goes over how to put it back to a factory rom
just for some reason i'm either over looking it or not finding it

Its very simple to return to stock. But first, do you have the tablets drivers installed on your pc?
---------- Post added at 06:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:14 AM ----------
And do you have fastboot?
if you are talking about the android sdk tools
yes that is installed on my computer from the first time I did the tablet
and I went ahead and did the updates for it as well
and tried plugging the unit in with the fastboot and confirm it shows up in device manager

Lol okay. Theres actually a more simple way.
1. Download the latest asus firmware.
2. Extract the zip file
3. Flash it like a normal rom.
If you cant use this method then you'll have to use fastboot. Here's a link but if you need any help, just ask : http://www.androidauthority.com/transformer-pad-tf300t-restore-stock-firmware-108016/
how do I check the sku according to that guide if i'm not able to load into the android os
that only shows if you can load into the os
would the box have that?
or now looking at the options that I should assume its is a US sku lol

lol, and how do I do that using the twrp?
can't find any detailed instructions on using twrp on flashing a rom, especially the stock one
i'm sure there is a set of detailed instructions cause I swore I saw one once

cause I thought besides using the install part there were things I had to clear as well for it to work
oh and yeah the download link for fastboot is no long working in the one guide you gave me to follow so not sure if I already have what it is talking about

Its simple lol. When you download the firmware from asus, its usually in a .zip form. In it, there is another zip file. Copy that zip file onto your tablet and flash it with twrp.

Yes. You have to do a factory reset first.
and how do I do that lol, and what happens when I don't do that first
is this tablet now dead since the step of doing the reset was not complete? cause now I can not access twrp and it just sits there with the asus logo and the swirling dots
when I try to access the usb option all I have is rck, android and wipe, rck just gives a failure shortly after trying

If you want to use twrp, download the us stock firm ware. when you open it, you'll see a file that looks like this: "US_epad-user-10.6.1.15.3". copy that file onto your tablet and flash it like a normal rom. haha
For fastboot, if you have the android sdk, then you already have fastboot so you dont have to download fastboot again.

[Q] Deleted my OS!!!!!!

So I sell my Infinity on ebay tonight. Went to wipe my data via TWRP and managed to delete my OS. The device shows the ASUS bootup screen but goes nowhere.
I'm a near illiterate in terms of understanding root level work on the tablet, and my other handicap is that I am a Mac user which means that I am not familiar with some of the "lingo" people use when describing connections to their Windows OS (things like ADB, bootloader, that sort of stuff).
Can someone help me with a step by step fix, using basic language?
i was hoping to ship tomorrow. OTOH, if I've bricked the thing, give me the bad news and I'll refund the money.

No - you're probably ok.
Just boot up with Power and Volume Down, hold both buttons until you feel the tablet vibrate twice. Let go when you see the tiny script and you'll see the bootloader menu with three icons and RCK flashing. Push Volume up and you should boot into TWRP.
From here you can just re-flash the rom you wiped or the stock rom (although flashing the stock firmware would wipe out TWRP). You need to have the zip of your chosen rom on your internal storage already (but maybe you wiped it???) or on your microSD.
Ask if I was not clear enough.
Edit: LMK beat me to it - again... LOL

Wow. 2 minutes and I'm getting help already.
I'm in TWRP. Where do I get the stock rom? I presume I'll download it my computer, but how do I tell the tablet to load it from there?

You don't. You have to copy the rom or firmware to your microSD.
Insert the card, boot into TWRP as described earlier.
Choose 'Install" and then navigate to your microSD and the zip you parked there.
Select it, swipe to flash it.
Now: I cringe, when someone on a perfectly fine and unlocked TF700 wants to flash back the Asus firmware. Ouch!
But I understand you only want to sell it and the buyer may not know how much better this tablet is on a custom ROM like CROMi-X. Sigh!
So, if you insist on flashing the latest firmware, go to the Asus support website, the download section, enter Transformer in the search box, select the TF700 and look for the 10.6.1.14.10 firmware. Make sure you select the one for your SKU, meaning US if you're on this continent (and I assume you are since you're awake at this time ), or WW or where ever you are.
Download the firmware and and on your computer, extract that zip file once - the result being another zip file.
It's that once extracted zip you want to copy to your SD, insert in your tab and flash in TWRP.
Ask if I left anything out.
Thanks. You're right, I'm in the US. But I am going to sleep. Will get on this in the AM.
You are correct to cringe. I rooted/C-romix'd a few months ago because I was frustrated by the constant lag on the tab. Figured if I bricked it, well, I wasn't happy with it anyway. I cringed when I went and did it because I knew I was taking a risk what with my capabilities. I've moved on to the Nexus 7 and just love it. Not just the performance. The small platform is just right....
Thanks for the rapid replies and the sophisticated yet understandable directions. Mostly, thanks for not calling me a knucklebrain even though I deserve it.

Problem #1: When I opened the ROM.zip, I didn't get another zip, I got a folder with no zips in it (a blob.exe, several other .exe). When I moved that over to the SD and chose to install it TWRP returned a "failure" notification.
I'd like to get the stock ROM on for the buyer. What should I do
Problem #2: I still have CROM-X on the external card. It is installing, but which kernel should I use?
I'm going to use sbdags stock, and if you think that's a mistake I'll reflash.

If you get the blob file you extracted once too often. The firmware is a zip inside a zip. You extract the downloaded file ONCE.
Stock kernel is fine.

[Q] looping TF300T

Hi All,
Searched the forum but couldn't find the same problem.
Tablet starts-up and goes to the starting screen.
After ca. 10 to 20 sec's the tablet reboots.
Sometimes I can read a mail or google for about 10 secs.
It is an original tablet, no unlocking or whatsoever.
Problems started after the latest update (firmware... I think)
What to do,
I am a noob not a nerd.
All help welcome !

Thanks for your quick response :good:
No, I don't get time enough to do a factory reset or back-up.
How to reflash stock firmware ?
When using the start button/volume down I get this message :
bootloader <1.00> released by "ww_epad-10.6.1.27.5-20130902" AO3
The screen says : "RCK" "ANDROID" "WIPE DATA"
When using RCK I get a dead Android with a error message
When using ANDROID I get a cold booting, a startup and I can read 2 E-mails and the looping is back.
I obviously do not use the Wipe out command.
I am using the TF300T with dock for nearly 13 months and was happy with the performance.

You do this with the Stock install zip for your bootloader:
Tylorw1 said:
1. Download the latest version of Android for your tablet. Make sure you download the correct SKU version.
A. To find the SKU, go into settings, About tablet, and look for your Build Number, There are two letters (such as US,WW, TW, etc.) that is your SKU. When downloading the zip from ASUS', you must download the correct SKU zip.
2. Decompress downloaded .zip file (it will be another .zip)
3. Rename it to:
A. For the TF700 and TF300: EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip
4. Make sure your MicroSD card is formatted Fat32. It must be Fat32 Format or it will not work.
5. Copy the file to (the root directory of) your MicroSD
6. Insert the MicroSD into the tablet
7. Shutdown (power off) the tablet
8. Power it on by pressing and holding VOLUME DOWN and POWER buttons simultaneously
9. When you see white text in the top left corner of the screen, release the buttons ^^ and press VOLUME UP button (on RCK, this is your recovery which should already be selected) until you see Android logo and process bar
10. Give the update process 5-10 minutes. It should not take longer than that. If it happens to run for more than 45 minutes to an hour, force shut down the tablet and see if it boots. If it does not, try rerunning steps 7-9.

Thats annoying of Asus... the only versions that are available on XDA are older ones like 10.6.1.27.1. But idk if it will work to flash back like that, and I wouldn't recommend doing it unless someone else has already tried and been successful.

Hi Fransoos,
seems like your recovery is sorta borked. In a even worse situation (nothing booted up at all) I followed two guides:
1. Complete reset you device and update to the latest stock firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44244313&postcount=12
You should be able to get the latest firmware from this thread, I tried to download the 4.2 WW, working fine
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949758
2. A very nice script that will install the latest CM11 nightly and Google Apps on your device, including a working recovery and everything.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579922
You only need to have the drivers installed and an unlocked Bootloader. Maybe this is the way to go for you.
At least it's what I did and I am very happy with my decision.
Cheers

In the newer versions of the stock firmware there are only the three icons (RCK and so on) you described. A line at the top of the screen will say something bout fastboot, so if anyone tells you to select the USB icon ... than that is outdated information. Kept me on my toes for a while.

Hi guys, dumb question, but why not just let Francoos install the not latest firmware? It should at least fix his issues. If not, the lean wipe of the tablet should resolve this, but then his data is lost.
Any 4.2 stock firmware should give him better results than a reboot every 10 seconds.
Cheers

The OP's bootloader is locked and he is on the latest firmware: 10.6.1.27.5. So upgrading to the latest firmware is the same as reflashing the firmware. So he has to download the 10.6.1.27.5 firmware from the forums or Asus website and upgrade it manually using the quote I gave a few posts ago.

You are welcome.
Rest assured you do have a bootloader. You may not have the bootloader interface the other Transformers have and possibly there is no way to get fastboot to work on this thing - I don't know.
There is no custom rom for this tablet, and if you do not want to loose 4G you cannot use one made for another Transformer either (no idea if that is even possible, I do not know the KL).
Your best bet is to gain root and uninstall a bunch of cr**, maybe use Greenify - I don't know. Very limited what you can do on stock....
I seem to recall that people got root with Framaroot on this thing. Google it, the info is out there. If I can find it so can you

ok let me get to the keypoints here that made me ask for help, and so you'll see that i'm not just a lazy person that doesn't use google
1) Some people they say that the KL can accept all the roms of the Tf700T. for example katkiss is saying to use one of their roms
1.a) some say that it will brick the device.
so, first question here, what will happen if i'll get a custom rom of the TF700T?
2) some people say that I should have a version of the "unlock bootloder" after unlocking with the asus app.
Well I don't have anything, I just have a small phrase which is "device unlocked" and that's it. nothing else.
3) some say on google that there is a cyanogen mod for the KL. Unfortunately cyanogenmod wiki and forum are down, so I can't find either assistance, either the files.
nothing to do here, then.
4) let's say I'll follow your guide, and i'll flash a custom rom. will I lose the 4g?
4.a) how can I get to the old rom, even original, in order to get 4g back?
5) about root: i managed to root it a long time ago. Unfortunately, even disabling most of the package and all the bloatware, the device really sucks.
that's the main reason why I abandoned there 3 years ago. now it's full of dust, and as I've been working a lot, I wanted to get it back with basic functions, but without waiting 10 seconds from the moment i press on APPS BUTTON and the actual time for which I see the apps page.
so, here's my google searching experience.

I'd say the first question is: Is there a compatible custom recovery for the KL and how to install it? I do not know that there ever was a custom recovery made for the KL and using one made for another Transformer may or may not brick your device. I do not see a single post from anyone stating that they successfully installed a custom rom or recovery on the KL, so my guess is: It cannot be done unless you develop a custom recovery for this tablet and find a way to flash it.
2) some people say that I should have a version of the "unlock bootloder" after unlocking with the asus app.

Well, there's the first difference to other Transformers: Most of them have a bootloader menu from where you can boot into recovery or into Android and perform a data wipe. Booted into the bootloader you also have fastboot access. The KL does not seem to have any of this. Do you have fastboot working on your PC? Try it, boot with Vol down or Vol Up and then check if you have fastboot access to the tablet. I doubt it....

You cannot follow my guide unless you figure out a way to get fastboot working. You could try to flash TWRP recovery using their app or Flashify, but which TWRP?? Which version might be compatible with your bootloader? Nobody knows it seems. But heck! What have you got to loose? You are not going to use the tablet in its current state anyway, so if you brick it - who cares?
But to answer your question: Yes, you would definitely loose the 4G. The software for your modem has its own partition and no rom made for the wifi-only Transformers even knows this partition exists, let alone about the hardware
4.a) how can I get to the old rom, even original, in order to get 4g back?

Again: Untested territory. If you had a custom recovery or fastboot you might be able to flash the Asus firmware in either. Maybe

But to answer your question: Yes, you would definitely loose the 4G. The software for your modem has its own partition and no rom made for the wifi-only Transformers even knows this partition exists, let alone about the hardware

I then flashed the TWMR
when i rebooted it said
"no usb connected"
i then connected to the PC
and it say
"READY FOR DOWNLOAD" with an android picture
i can't boot it up again
what should i do now?
when i now do the FASTBOOT DEVICES command on pc, I see the serial of the asus
it's the first time fastboot sees it
I tried doing "fastboot update kitkatnougatellaxxxx.zip"
but it say that android-info.txt & android-product.txt not find so not flashable
what now, then? I can't even use it with the old OS
You need to boot into the TWRP that you flashed, hold the volume button down and press the power button (hold both) until you get the fastboot screen, the square with [RCK] should be blinking. Now press the volume up button to enter the TWRP recovery console. - NP

best bet would be to do a factory reset, I don't believe this rom will work on the KL model. - NP
it doesn't even allow the factory reset, as if i press it it gives the NO USB CONNECTED screen
i'd say it's bricked

Try selecting [1] "Enter SD down mode" which is Enter SD download mode and see if you get to the next menu. - NP
I can't
I mean it doesn't get to the next menu
I've been trying to find the threads on how to re-flash the stock ASUS ROM from the SD cardseeing this is the only way to get the TF700k working but I can't find it know. It involved have the ROM in the root directory on the SDcard and giving it a specific name, this name triggers the tablet to update itself. - NP
