[Q] Downgrade to root?? - Asus Transformer TF700

Hello,
I am attempting to root my Asus Transformer TF700T specs:
Build number: JOP40D.US_epad-10.6.1.14.10-20130801
Kernel version: 3.1.10-gbla9af5
Android version: 4.2.1
This is day three and I have learned much...so thank you all. As I understand it, I need to downgrade to ICS correct? From there, a simple Motochopper, or something similar should work to root this thing right? Or am I off my rocker. From there I hope to have the capability of over-clocking.
Please. A helping hand through this operation would be greatly appreciated. My goal only is to simply over-clock the processor speed 40%. Nothing fancy otherwise. My wife is viciously angry with the "lag" of the tablet and I hoped to do something like over-clocking it.
Thank you all for your important time,
Regards,
Kenjistarr

To root you only need to downgrade to 10.6.1.14.8.
But I think you need a kernel that supports overclocking and I don't think the stock kernel does.
To run custom software you need to unlock the tablet (and loose the warranty by doing so). But then you can flash a custom recovery and rom like CROMi-X with your choice of kernel. If you run CROMi-X on this tab, you don't even have to oc - your wife will be viciously happy with it anyway

Did you unzip the downloaded zip file once? The result will be another zip and that's the file you need to copy to your SD.

Ahhh - good move! If you unlocked you can save yourself the trouble of downgrading! Read this thread, especially post #9 and follow the instructions.

You dont have to downgrade !
There is a plan B
Use Scott's TF700T Recovery Install Tool from here:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=22901594685178272
It installs TWRP as well
Then boot holding the Power an Volume button down.
You will find yourself in TWRP.
Make a backup first.
Then choose install and browse to the ROM of choice.
In my case I downloaded CROMi-XDEODEX 5.0.4 earlier from here >> http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23159073880932701
You will find your downloaded file in sdcard/Download
I followed the instructions here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425383

You have to unlock it first, then use Scotts Tool.

Also instructions prior to root at the same link.
Follow the instructons, but instead of using Motoshopper, use Scotts Tool.

future of rooting access for B80+

I just got a new TF101 with Serial # B90, and currently using HTJ85B.US_epad-8.6.5.9-20110816 ( maybe be able to upgrade to 8.6.5.13 using the download from Asus' site, or OTA upgrade to some version I don't know) , since Razorclaw is not working for some B80 and beyond, and now that the Transformer Prime has come out, and no news from Razorclaw about rooting B80+ since early Oct, I wonder if they have given up and move up to the Prime? I'm thinking if I can't root it at all, I may just return it to the store.
and I have read some other threads, and some people saying that they have rooted their B90, is there another rooting method that I'm unaware of?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416362
Go to this link and follow my instructions to update to 8.6.6.19 and then use razorclaw
Where should I put the files (ep101_sdupdate.zip and WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip)? Simply drop them in the internal SD? Have I to create a new folder?

i have a b80 rooted with razorclaw...you have to get to 8.6.5.19 for tf101 or 8.6.6.19 for tf101g if you have anyother firmware you wont be able to root with razorclaw. the firmware files are out there. iin your case you will have to update to the 8.6.5.13 first then work your way thru the updates after that to get to .19 im pretty sure thats the only way. correct me if im wrong guys. just dont update ota from asus the 8.6.5.21 update that may be pushed to your device while your updating.
the pose has the file 8.6.6.19, 8.6.6.x is for tf101g, isn't it?
Yes it is, however if you flash it as EP101_SDUPDATE your tab will accept it, then you root with razorclaw, install CWM, then you can flash a custom rom
my tf101 accepted it without renaming - just extracted the zip from within the zip to the root of micro sd card if that makes sense.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
oh I see, does it mean that after I upgrade to 8.6.5.13 and then to 8.6.6.19, after I root it with razorclaw, I can use CWM to backup the Asus ROM, and than flash a custom ROM, and able to recover to the Asus ROM using CWM shall I need the warranty?
Yes, adding root and the clockwork really opens up quite a few options

If I have stock, do JB update? (I want root and NVflash in future)

OK, if you plan to stay on stock the rest of your life then just do the OTA upgrade, however, if you going to mod your tab, then couple things you have to do first and they are very important as it will be your life saving some day.
1. Root and Unlock your device and install latest CWM (not twrp, this one will not work once you on JB)
2. Use NVflash tool to make a backup of your bootloader (very important, life saving). You can not do this step once you on .30 so you are one of a few very lucky person here.
3. Install Voodoo OTA root keeper to temporary save root and restore root after the upgrade.
3. Do the upgrade to .30 then JB
Following the below link for detail instruction for everything).

Thanks, you are saving my life. I will put here issues
Can I install recovery not using ASUS tool??
Should I do root first before ASUS tool unlocking??
No need to use Asus unlock tool if you just want root. If you want to flash cwm, custom rom/kernel, root while in JB, then you do need Asus tool to unlock your device first.

[Q] Upgraded to JB , Unlocked , impacted!!! :(((

Hi all!
I got my transformer infinity and the first of all connected to wifi and upgraded to JB.(it was a doltish action)
then realized that it was a deadend too root and development:crying::crying:
the only way I was able to move on was Unlocking bootloader and void warranty
now I have a costom bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797692
what can I do now for rooting & nvflash, dualboot for UBUNTU(Ithing it is very suitable for the infinity because of the dock and touchpad )
now im hanged totaly
plz help me
best regards!
You cannot use NVFlash as you have upgraded the bootloader. It only works on .26 or earlier. Not on .30 or JB. You can load several of the custom Roms, just check your MD5 sums before installing them, and be wary of Alpha builds or TF300 based ones. If you don't get too crazy, you should be OK without NVFlash. Having it is like car insurance, you don't plan on using it, but when you do crash it's nice to have.

+1 CleanROM v1.3 is rooted and flies like the wind. If you are not rooted, you will need to fastboot flash the TWRP custom recovery in order to be able to flash a custom ROM. Look for TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project ) thread in Development section.

Under Windo2s I very much like HashTab -- once installed, right-click on a file and under the Properties window, you get a new tab called "File Hashes" or something like that. If you transfer the file under Windows (e.g., using a card reader), you check it again just to be sure.
Under Android I use MD5 Hash Checker because it provides Send-to functionality: you can browse to the file using you preferred file app (mine is Total Commander) and just send it MD5HC.
Under both programs, you can just paste in the MD5 checksum the developer gives out and see if the file downloaded correctly.
Just to make sure, there's only 1 way to unlock as of now, correct? The ASUS unlocking app?

Hello,
I have JB 4.1.1. I'm trying to upgrade to JB 4.2. I have unlocked the bootloader and been trying to root with no success (I've tried many ways). Now I'm trying to upgrade to JB 4.2 but the tablet won't boot on recovery mode. When I try to boot on recovery mode I get the laying android robot with the red exclamation mark.

This is your stock recovery. You need to install a recovery. You can do this using the ABD tool in the Dev section. After you have a better recovery, which I suggest at least TRWP 2.4.4, Flash the zip in the stock 4.2.1 thread that has TWRP 2.5 and 4.2.1 Boot loader. 4.1.1 will run on the 4.2.1 boot loader. After that then flash the stock 4.2.1 in the same thread. It is pre rooted. This is all if your unlocked.

Unzip the file then rename the unzipped file to "EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip" (without the quote), then copy it to the root of your micro sdard, boot into recovery by hold volum down and power button, when you see the white text on the screen let go both buttons, then hit volume up twice, it should flash the firmware file

The guy with the exclamation mark ISSSSS your recovery. It is not a full interface. It will only flash a rom if there is one available, if it is not, it will do what you stated. Unzip the file downloaded from ASUS website once after downloading, then put the zip on your Micro SD card and rename it EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip. restart going into recovery and it should flash it.

[Q] How to reflash android with locked bootloader

I have a me301t, basically the same as a tf300t right? (there is no me301t forum right now). I am on 4.2.1 stock (root), but the Bluetooth isn't working, so I am wanting to reflash the stock firmware. I want to keep a locked bootloader, so I can still have warranty if I please. I've looked up a couple of videos of how to, but I am wondering if root will mess up the flashing process. I've also been wondering if I can keep root after flash with Voodoo root keeper. Any advice?

Dear all users of TF300T.
If you are using Stock ROM (Rooted/Non Rooted) and are bricked or stuck on ASUS boot screen. Then this guide is for you.
As i was using stock ROM (ROOTED) with Locked boot loader without custom recovery and my tf300t was Sofbricked due to wrong configurations at Display Pixel scaling and also reformat did not work for me.!
So i thought to create this guide which may help people out here It worked for me Try your LUCK.
Sorry if i am re posting i did not got any guides out here...
If this helped you please give me a Thumbs up.!
Steps:-
1. Download the latest ROM from ASUS website Which matches your SKU.(Important).
It would look somehing like this (TF300T-TW_epad-10_6_1_15_3-UpdateLauncher . zip)
2. Extract it and rename that file to ( EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip )
3. Now copy this new renamed file to SDCARD (Root of sd card). Put the SDcard into tablet.
4. Now Press and hold Volume Down + Power for a few seconds. Then you will see the ASUS recovery options.
5. 3 icons will appear: RCK, Android, and Wipe Data. The RCK should be flashing green. Press the UP Volume Key Once.
Now wait for a few minutes. It will flash the ROM.
And wola! Your TF300T will again work fine!!
