[Q] Totally bricked my phone :( HELP PLZZ - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have a razr maxx hdxt926. I tried to root the phone by using the Droid Razr utility. Since then, I cannot even turn the phone ON to get into Boot load option. The phone seems completely dead. When I plug the phone to the computer, I can hear the connecting sound but I have no idea what I can do at this point. Any ideas? Am I totally screwed? Please help!!

What firmware is your phone running? Just trying to root shouldn't brick it, even if you're running one of the OTAs that patched the exploit.
Did you try holding the power button until it turns off? It sounds like it's still on if it makes the connecting sound when you plug it in. Try holding the power button down until it does a hard shutdown, then see if you can get into the bootloader manually (hold down both volume rocker buttons and then push and hold the power button also).

Hello,
Yes, I did try the "hold power" then the volume down keys with power and nothing. Not sure what firmware this is did not get a chance to check on that. I got the phone today. Not sure what to do at this point.

Return it to the store?

Have you removed the battery then put it back in? So you know the phone is off. If you do this and then plug it in, does your phone beep/start charging, do you see anything on the screen?
I had a phone die on me like that. Out of nowhere screen went black, took it to a repair shop instead of using the insurance, cost like $75 :/
Later I asked sprint and they said they don't care if you root your phone. They would have replaced it, but it would've been $150 for a smartphone.

umm you can't take the battery out of this phone.....

Also I want to point out that I've "heard" sending your phone in for repairs and they see that it's been rooted and unlocked your next bill might be a much large amount than you expect. Just like as if you send it in and they found water damage. Google it before sending it in.

Which specific utility did you use? If you used the one for the Razr, you might be out of luck if it touched your bootloader.

Phone wont power on

I've had this phone for about 5 days now. When I got it the power button was pretty tough to push and it was hard to power on and power off the phone. Today I rooted and unlocked the bootloader. Phone rebooted fine. I powered it down to get into hboot and cannot get the phone to respond now. Will not power up, no charging light when I plug it in, nothing. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here?

I had the same thing happen to me after flashing a S=off partition to my phone... Have you tried holding down the volume down buttom and power button to hard reset it? hold it up to 20 seconds. If you get no response and when you plug it into your comp and it tells you its installing some weird file then you are HARD BRICKED like i was, only thing i know of you can do at the moment is return it... they cant acces it so just tell them you went to bed after putting it on the charger and when you woke up it was completely dead, it wont respond to anything... worked for me, hope the best for ya...

Well I got it to power on now after leaving the phone sit for a while. The power button is still a pain in the butt to use though.
I was getting no response and my computer was telling me it was installing some weird file. But now it seems to be working like it should. Other than the bad power button.
In the Captivate forums (where I've been the past two years) I've seen people talk about the power button becoming more or less responsive with different ROMs. It seems impossible to me that this could be real, but enough experienced people talked about it that I wonder if there may be some explanation, like the power button isn't just an on/off device but maybe registers distance and/or pressure.
Or maybe everyone who talked about it was imagining it.

[Q] NEED HELP! Screwed up ODIN root procedure, and GS3 is lifeless

Just got the Verizon GS3 from my employer; and, decided to root it.
It received the JB 4.1.1. OTA yesterday, after being activated; and, I tried to use the XDA posted procedure for rooting that new build:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
Did all the prep, got ODIN and VRALEC bootchain loading, until ODIN showed green.
While waiting for the GS3 to reboot, I knocked the USB cable out of my laptop.
Couldn't get ODIN to continue, and the GS3 won't boot at all...100% black screen.
The only kind of response I get is when I connect the GS3 to the USB cable, and hold down the power button. After about 20 seconds, the computer will make soft pinging noises.
I've rooted a lot of Android phones. Had lots of problems, but never actually bricked one...especially one belonging to the company.
Have a completely bricked this poor phone; or does someone have a plan to offer?
THANKS, IN ADVANCE!

Have you pulled battery let it sit for a little then put the battery in and tried getting back into Odin mode? Of course without the usb connected

Appreciate the suggestion, Kintwofan.
Unfortunately, I had already tried that...took the battery out; and, let the phone sit for 10 minutes.
There is absolutely nothing when I hold down the Power button...no sound, no lights, no haptic buzz.
The only time it gives any sign of life is if I plug in the USB cable, while the battery is out. Then the upper-left LED glows red...even when I put the battery back in. However, after about 1 minute, the light goes out, and the GS3 will give out three short 'chirps'
Any other thoughts? Have I killed it?

I'm thinking so, that's the same symptoms as when people flash international versions of a ROM.

Had this before it's a soft brick,I think. you need to get into Odin mode and flash bootloader again, there's a thread in dev section with the files and the procedure

I've knocked my chord out from flashing so many times on the fascinate. Good lord. Plus it would even turn it blue mid way and get all messed up.
I simply put it back in download mode and flashed away. OP has not specified trying to get into download mode. Try that.....

Same for the droid x. Just put it back in bootloader mode and start the sbf over. The only real problem was if your battery was too low and your would have to find an external charger. That sucked and people would freak out.

If you are able to get in to download mode consider installing the pre rooted K3 found here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436
I have 4 phones, I used OTA Rootkeeper on one, used the method above on two and the fourth is still on ICS, until this weekend.
I hope all works out well for you.
Unplug the usb from the phone. Hold Home+ Vol Down+ Power at same time, When it boots, then Vol. Up.
This is called Download mode. It WILL go into download mode if it shows a battery icon when plugged in.,
Then, open odin, plug the usb into the phone & continue on.
Just trying to power on from a soft brick will do nothing. It sounds like that is what you are doing.
Appreciate all the feedback.
I charged the battery in an external charger; and, tried to get back into ODIN mode.
I held the lower volume and home buttons down, then held the power button.
Nothing happened at all.
If I did it wrong, please explain how I should do it.
As always, thanks in advance!

Did the phone even vibrate? Instead of holding them down at the same time, do it in a sequence. Volume down, home button, power button. Hold each one down while you hold the next button down.

Try this:
Make sure battery is charged. Hold down: volume down, home, and power buttons. THEN insert battery.

Sorry I didn't make it clearer. There was NOTHING on the screen at all.
What happened was if I plugged in the USB while the battery was out, a red LED came on (top left of the front of the device).
Whether I put the battery back in, or not, the red LED would turn off after about 30 seconds; and, the phone would give 3 soft 'chirps'.
The red LED doesn't go on, if the battery is in; and, there has been no other light, and there has been absolutely nothing on the screen.
Thanks!

This exact same thing happened to me when flashing (except I didn't knock the cord out). I tried all of the solutions found on these forms, and I even ordered a USB jig and nothing would work. I had the same thing happen with the red light coming on, wouldn't power on, tried the battery, holding the button combinations, etc.-still a no go. I finally gave up and had to ask for a replacement device unfortunately. I have an unopened USB jig from MobileTechVideos (I had ordered one from them and one from eBay) if you'd like to give it a shot with your device anyway.

I appreciate the suggestion. However, it was company property; and, I made the choice to screw around with it. As such, it is my responsibility; and, I won't scam Verizon or my employers to do some undeserved CYA.
MindArchr...thanks for the offer. Its very decent of you to do so; but, I have already arranged to make restitution for the device that I bricked; and, my company has ordered me another one.
The very best of luck and a very Happy Holiday, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and all that stuff to all of you!

[Q] Did my N5 just turn into a paper weight?

There isn't much in the way of details for what just happened to my phone but I'll try my best to be as detailed as possible.
I picked it up and turned the screen on then I hear a "pop" sound. (i don't know if it was a hardware pop or something that came from the speaker)
The screen grayed out a little bit, the system buttons on the bottom of the screen disappeared and horizontal lines appeared on the bottom quarter of the screen. The screen was also completely unresponsive.
I held down the power button to restart the phone, when I did it vibrated and the screen turned off. However, the phone won't turn back on now. Plugging the phone into the wall doesn't make the charging icon appear so I'm assuming that my phone just died.
The phone was bootloader unlocked, rooted, and had Franco kernal r14 on it. No overclocking, under-clocking, or under-volting.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what I could try to either bring it back to life or confirm that it is indeed dead?
Hold both volume buttons and the power button and see if it will go into the bootloader.

Try leaving it plugged In for awhile even though it doesn't appear to be charging. You could try to hold town the power button for thirty seconds.
It seems like it COULD be bricked. If it is, I would contract Google for a RMA. Their not going to spend there time fixing it just to see if you were rooted or unlocked.
Good luck.

Soft Bricked?

My Galaxy s3 turned off randomly today at about 50% battery life. I tried getting it to turn back on, but my power button is broken. So, if I take out the batter and put it back in, it will say "Samsung" for about 2 seconds, and just turns off again. If I plug it in, it doesn't do anything. Sometimes if I take out the battery, put it in, then plug it in while it's turning on, it'll show an empty battery for about a second, then turn off. What can I do? I can't take it to Verizon because it's rooted. This isn't newly rooted, it's been rooted for about 4-5 months, so I don't think that's the problem. There is no custom rom and I've tried a new battery. I want to fix my phone, but I really want to keep the pictures on it. Any help?
Edit: The problem is my power button being defective. If I could just boot one time to backup everything, I'll be happy.

What rom are you on and what were you doing just before it turned off? Can you boot into Download mode from a powered off state? That's the key thing.

Thank you for the reply.
I'm on whatever the default rom is. I never loaded a custom one. And before it turned off, I wasn't doing anything. I believe I simply pulled it out of my pocket. I figured I accidentally turned it off on my own because since my power button is broken, it will ask me if I want to turn it off at random times. I'm not sure if I can boot into download mode. I thought I saw a tutorial on getting into download mode without using the power button, but I'll have to find it again and try it out.
Hold volume up, home and then put the battery in. Sounds like the power button is stuck on, so you should be able to boot into the stock recovery and wipe day. Though with the power stuck on, it's probably the signal from the button that says the issue.
Do you have the vz extended warranty insurance? If so, take it in and they'll give you a new one. It covers any phone you activate (I'd never consider not having that coverage)

Well, I tried what you said and saw "Recovery booting", but then it shut off.
I have insurance, but my phone is also cracked, so they won't replace it.
Edit: I've been able to get it into download mode, but it just turns off still. It's definitely the power button because I don't even have to hold it to go into download mode.

Damn.
Honestly, if it were me, I'd raise Hell at a store with a manager until they did a warranty replacement. Crack or no, its the power button you're complaining about, so if there are no marks on the power button, they can't claim it's user-damage (like a drop).

HTC One X wont charge or turn on

Hey guys,
Gave my friend my HTC ONE X to use hes gave it back to me a while later saying it no longer turns on. Ive been trying to trouble shoot but have had no luck. When plugged into any power source wall or pc it wont give the led that indicates charging. I have tried with multiple chargers and cables. The device cannot be hard or soft reset because the volume buttons dont work. Instead i have taken the phone apart and manually unplugged the battery but still nothing. It has been charging for days and nothing has changed. The only positive sign is that when i plug it into my pc it is detected but windows gives me a pop up saying the device has malfunctioned.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT: Device is bootloader unlocked S-off rooted running TWRP and Venom rom
It looks like your friend might have bricked your phone. When the PC can recognise it, does it show up as QHSUSB_DLOAD device?

It shows up as an unknown device. I don't think he did anything with the software im more leaning towards a battery issue.
Ok. Leave the phone connected to a wall charger for at least eight hours then try turning it on. You might need to hold down the power button or hold power + volume down for it to power on. Try these before and after disconnecting it from the wall outlet.

I've had it on the charger for a couple days i cant get it to turn on. The volume button rocker is broken so the volume buttons dont actually work. I tried taking it apart and pressing the volume down with power but no luck.
I'd be seriously second guessing what your friend did to the phone. I think it's bricked.

okay on the assumption it is bricked how should i proceed?
Either pay HTC about $200 for a new motherboard, or very a jtag repair done for about $60.
Sent from my Evita.
I'll just sell for parts...
The only part you can sell from it the way it is is the screen + digitizer. Imho it's worth the $60 to have it repaired, in fact I'd be making your friend pay whatever the cost of the repair is. He broke it, he bought it.
Sent from my Evita.
He actually already paid me for the phone and i upgraded a while ago it was just lying around so i let him borrow it until he got a new phone. I dont really want to sink $60 into a phone a dont need. Was just seeing if there was a quick fix.
You could pay 60 and sell it at 120
