[Q] Root for AT&T HTC One X - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hello All, I have been looking for a way to root my AT&T HTC One X, but I am getting conflicting information. The reason I would like to root the phone is to enable tethering and remove the bloatware. The phone is sim unlocked and I am using it on a carrier that has free tethering/Hotspot unfortunately there is some sort of lock by AT&T that is preventing me from tethering or using my phone as a hotspot even though I am using a non AT&T sim card. Some information I have seen in threads are that the bootloader has to be unlocked before rooting, some said it doesn't have to be. Anyways here is the specs of the phone I have. Maybe someone has a solution that I can use...
Model
HTC One X
Android Version
4.0.4
HTC Sense Version

Software Number

HTC SDK API Level

Baseband Version

Build Number

Ok so that info is exactly how it is written on the phone
Amy help will be greatly appreciated...

Yes you would need to root your phone and unlock your bootloader to be able to remove bloatware/tether. To root your phone and unlock is very easy. If you like using HTC Sense roms I don't remember if they have tethering enabled. I am currently using the CM 10.2 rom and it has wifi hotspot and tethering capabilities. It's lightweight and free of bloat. All the answers should be easy to find in the stickies.

You need to post your hboot information, the Android information is irrelevant to unlocking/rooting. To get into hboot do this:
Power off phone completely.
Hold volume down and then hold power, so you're holding them together.
Let go of power after a few seconds, but keep holding volume down until it reaches the white screen with text.
This is your bootloader. Please post the first five lines you see at the top of the screen.
You can use tethering on Sense ROMs, as long as they're not at&t based.
PS. Questions go in the q&a section, I'll ask for this to be moved for you.

[Q] T-Mobile Billing option not showing up in Market

OK. So when I first got my Sensation, I had the option to bill to my T-Mobile account. Even if it wasn't available on an app, it was grayed out.
Now, I got the Revolutionary S-off and Rooted my phone. Tried some different ROM options. Did not like.
Went back to a stock T-mobile Sensation ROM using RUU. S-Off and Rooted still. But, waiting for Cyanogenmod down the road, while enjoying the other benefits of having a rooted phone.
After all is said and done -- Stock ROM back in place, S-off back in place, and all that good stuff -- my option for billing to T-mobile no longer shows up.
Anything I am not doing right or need to do? Am I missing something?

[Q] Downgrade to Jbb to ICS

Hi friends,
i have a litte question i have HTC ONE AT&T and i live in costa rica, my htc don´t work correctly, no conection shared and no wifi and i have software version: 3.18.502.6 710RD official de at&t
it is possible to downgrade to version ics?????
Only if your phone is s-off you can check that in you bootloader
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
no it's not possible.
Connection sharing is blocked on AT&T Software as per AT&T. As for Wifi, not sure why that wouldn't be working... most likely not related to software anyway so downgrading wouldn't fix it... You can try rerunning the 3.18 RUU, if the wifi not working is a software issue, that will fix it. If it's a hardware issue, it won't work no matter what software version you use.
*edit* jerry is right, I just assumed you were completely Stock.
thank you for you respond
information for the htc one x at&t is:

thant if possible root my htc one x for installing custom rom????
or not possible?
unfortunately not by traditional means.
Only via JTAG service. Typically costs about $50USD
*edit* I also feel like I should add that if you have to ask if 2.14 is rootable, you shouldn't bother rooting your phone.
then you can not do anything with my phone
know if at some point to have root access oy and I stayed with this system?

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying but if you're asking if you should update if one comes out. Don't update unless you want to stay stock. Whenever an update comes out you have to wait for that update to become rootable if an exploit is found. Stock updates are a rooter's worst nightmare.

[Q] Need verification...lots

GOod night. My main issue is the sheer number of ppl with the HTC OneXL in this forum. Lot of posts i see say 'sent from my HTC OneXL'..i read something on this very site telling me that when downloading ROMs or anything really for a device, make sure you get the correct files. This forum contains info on the AT&t and ROgers HTC OneX annddd the Telstra OneXL..the only real ROMs i am interested in would be the latest KitKat update from AT&T, CyanogenMod11 and MIUI. Ive got the necessary info on my device here. Ive already unlocked my bootloader, rooted, SuperCID. Root fully working with TWRP recovery. Still on the stock ROM. Im from the Virgin Islands, and with my HTC devices in the past as well as the Galaxy S4s, CyanogenMod ROMS always seemed to provide slightly worse WiFi performance in terms of distance. Also was a fan of CM from the Inspire4G due to its Torch app with its dual LEDs, utterly unchallenged on high-brightness, lol. Anyways, here are the specs on my current HTC OneX from AT&T:
Android vers. 4.0.4

My questions basically are:
is there a CM11 ROM for the AT&T OneX?
yet possible to download the latest OTA for KitKat for the AT&T OneX?
Does my phone NEED to be updated to the 3.18RUU for either the official KitKAt from AT&T, MIUI or CM11 ROMS to function?
Thanks so much.
The att HTC one x and the HTC one XL are the exact same phones. Everything you find here will work on your phone

And yes, you have to run the 3.18 ruu, unlock your bootloader, achieve s-off, install a custom recovery, and install the Roms that you want.

my bootloader is already unlocked, s-off with TWRP installed. does this mean i can just run the RUU?

All the answers to your questions are in that link I posted.
Yes you will have a stock recovery after the RUU. You will need to flash TWRP or CWM recovery in fastboot mode (bootloader mode) after running the RUU.
You will need to enter your recovery after you flash it and flash SuperSU (or equivalent) to root the Rom.
Your phone will remain unlocked, SuperCID, and S-Off after running the RUU.
As for the toolkit, you can do these things without it. A tool kit at this point is a crutch. You a far enough along now that you should understand how these things work. (OK. off soapbox now.)
Read through the link I posted. I detailed all the info you need to be successful. Good luck.
Agreed. Forget the toolbox, it's a crutch and is totally unnecessary. If you need instruction on flashing a recovery, installing a ROM, among other things, have a look at my How-To Guide For Beginners thread in my signature. You should also read the Evita FAQ thread in my signature.

Any of the radios in the radio thread are okay to flash on the EVITA. The Google map may be a good start, but only trial and error will tell you for sure which one is the best for you.
Any ROM but the stock AT&T ROM will let you turn off LTE in Settings. This is what I would recommend. What radio you use has no bearing on turning off LTE, if that is what you are asking.

[Q] Question: Possible to update HTC One firmware without S-OFF?

I swear I've read somewhere once that it is possible, though more tedious... but after hours of searching, I can no longer find the post I read that said I could do it and how to. I'm very new to Android, and 'somewhat' technical, but am nervous about going S-OFF and not entirely even sure my phone can be S-OFF, after finding countless posts saying I can't do S-OFF on the newer HTC One because of my version of HBOOT something something.
I'm preparing for Android Revolution HD v52.1 when it's released, which will have T-Mobile WiFi Calling implemented and am loving using a Custom ROM. If there's a way to update to the latest Firmware, that would be wonderful.
I have a Mac, but can switch to Windows if necessary using Parallels or BootCamp. Thank you in advance for any help provided.

I got some help in the Android Revolution HD IRC Chat room and found out that a newer tool, Firewater, is capable of putting HTC Ones into S-OFF and quite easily, so for anyone that needs the help, it worked on my HTC One with the newer HBOOT, etc... Here's the link: firewater-soff.com

[Completed] [Q] How to Root HTC One X + Unlocked AT&T World Phone

I Just purchased a "HTC One X+ Unlocked AT&T World Phone (64G - Quad core)" from Amazon. It is a brand new phone with NO SIM Card. I'm looking to Root this phone And would like to be pointed in the right direction. Based on what I read in the many forums related to rooting the phone, I'm overwhelmed with info. At this point I'm not even sure what I have for a phone. Like I said, looking to be pointed in the right direction. In opening bootloader this is what the brand new phone is telling me:
***LOCKED****
EVITARE_UL PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT - 1.32.0000
CPLD - None
MICROP - None
RADIO - SSD:1.09.55.17
eMMC - bootmode: disabled
CPU - bootmode : disabled
HW Secure boot: enabled
MODEM TYPE: MDM9215M
OCT 20 2012, 13:45:56
In going to the software info on the phone I have :
Android version: 4.1.1
HTC Sense Version: 4+
Software Number: 1.15.502.9.710RD
HTC SDK API level: 4.63
HTC extension Version: HTCExtension_Sense45_1,

Build number:1.15.502.9 CL122548 release-keys
Browser Version: WebKit/534.30
The phone is new, out of the box, with no simcard installed. It has the AT&T "Globe" icon at the top only. I already use AT&T as my carrier and intend to stay, at least for the moment. Looking to be pointed in the direction to answer the following questions
1) Can I root this phone? 1A) Can I do it without a simcard? Then I'm looking to update Android version (can I get to the latest?), and simply take my existing Simcard from my old HTC One x phone and install in the new. Finally transfer all data, etc from old phone to new.
You all do such great work, so I do feel a bit dumb in requesting guidance. I do hope I provided enough info for you to Educate me in rooting this phone. Thanks in advance for your help
Hi,
I can't find anything about a "world phone", so it would be best to ask the experts who own your device here,
HTC One X+ > One X+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting > So you came at XDA-Developers to find help? (Beginners Thread)
Good luck!
