Hi, so basically i just signed up with tmobile and their jump program, for those that dont know its where you pay 10 bucks a month and u can get another phone twice a year, however you have to return your phone before getting another one, anyways my question is is it possible to make a backup of the original img of the stock firmware or rom before rooting, and then reinstalling the stock back when the time comes in to turn it in for another phone, i heard somewhere that they can tell if your phone has been flashed even if original firmware was put back, is this true? the phone i have is lg g2. ty
There are quite a few articles out there on unrooting the G2. Shouldn't be a problem to unroot and go back to stock recovery/stock ROM. Most CSR's are only going to check the rooting status in the "About Phone" "Status" area.
While you can unroot and go back to stock they can tell if the bootloader has been tampered with I.e. unlocked and locked. With T-Mobile they don't include your phone in your rate so you're best off just buying a good phone that you own and keeping it.

Hi all, any help would be much appreciated.
I'm from Canada and bought the HTC One S from Expansys a few days ago. It was compatible with my Rogers network, however, I JUST switched over to Bell and unfortunately, this version of the phone, while unlocked, is not compatible with Bell's network. As a result, Expansys has agreed to let me return the phone, however, during the short time that I was using it, I had rooted and installed a custom rom (WITHOUT backing up the stock; boneheaded move, I know). The phone seems to be the European version from France, so I was thinking of restoring to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543588 however, I remember reading an article on Rootzwiki about how our phones are marked once we unlock the bootloader. Is there a way to remedy this? I'm afraid Expansys will reject my return if they notice that I've "tampered" with it and would like to return it fully to stock, unrooted, completely original everything.
Again, if anyone can direct me how to proceed, I would be so grateful. I have two weeks to send my phone back.
Thanks guys!
Thanks
I would love to know the answer to this as well. Kinda in the same boat...My main concern is removing CWM..Anyone have any info on this?

Based on all my readings thus far, it seems removing the "tampered" message is not possible yet.
In order to remove CWM and revert back to stock, I recommend hasoon2000's All-In-One Toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604677
There is an option to flash the stock recovery.

You can just do the following:
Remove root - can be easily done via superSU app from the settings menu, where is mentiones full unroot
Flash stock recovery
Relock bootloader.
After that if you want, just find the correct RUU file for your phone it it will flash it. The word tempered will go away, but it will just say "relocked"
I don't think that expansys will access the bootloader to check....Most employees are not tech savvy...As long as they power the phone on, without problems....you should be fine.
you will always see the brand relocked. untill we have al full s-off it wil be like this always.
just flash the correct ruu it came with,
if the phone works normal they wont have a reason to look at the bootloader.
Hi. I had an Evo 4G and CM9 mastered. My first mistake was getting an iPhone.
I now have an i717. It was rooted but I didnt recognize it so I immediately put in clockwork and CM9. I lost imei but it reappeared after putting in the radio vkl1 a second time.
I have some db's in the signal meter in settings so its getting something. The number isnt showing from the tmo sim though. The phone was never unlocked.
I do not get a prompt to unlock when I reboot. Did I need to unlock first? I thnk I know the answer.
What should I do? I can pay $10 or whatever but I shouldnt have to. Im not sure if I need to use this odin thing to get to a stock ATT rom or something before I can unlock? Please help. thanks in advance.
I say u should go to odin and unroot then reroot it just to be on the safe side. Then u could unlock it if u want but unrooting it should work. It always works for me

The i717 is the Galaxy Note, not the Skyrocket. Did you put a Skyrocket rom on the Note or was that just a typo?
.........
At this point I have paid cellunlock dot net to give me an unlock code.
Probably a common problem was that my USB cable was not in good status, using a usb extension, so I had failed flashing of firmware til late last night.
This morning I was able to install a stock ATT firmware. Now I receive a prompt for the unlock code. I cannot put CM9 back on it or do anything with it until I unlock it, so I am waiting.
**devpro**. you said no need to unlock? Im not sure. It certainly didnt ask for an unlock code when I was on cm9, but I could not make calls.
Could anyone clarify? Do I need to unlock if I am rooted, using tmo on att note?
I dont care much for odin or that kies crap. I prefer reboot to recovery, clockwork, rom manager and put cm9 on it. In critical situations its a life saver.
So im waiting on the unlock code or to find out i dont need it but i bet I do, especially since i travel overseas a lot.
???
If you're on T-Mobile, and using an AT&T phone you will need to unlock it.

I am doing the same thing with my Skyrocket. I got impatient waiting for the unlock code and rooted it, flashed CWM, custom radio, and CM9 on it. Then realized that after putting in non-AT&T SIM I wasn't getting unlock prompt. Keypad codes to bring up prompt don't work either. Hoping return to stock fixes it and I can just restore the CM9 from backup.

You absolutely have to unlock whether you're prompted or not. Rooting and installing non-stock software on it appears to result in lack of access to the unlock prompt (guessing UCLE2 radio but it may have just been CM9 in general).
I'll let you all know how it goes.
Success
Returned to stock using k0nane's method and Odin here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348, shut down, removed battery, inserted non-AT&T ROM, booted up, and was prompted for the unlock code.
Note: Those that are planning on using k0nane's method above should use the file he links to (SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane.tar), another archive I grabbed via a different thread boot-looped my phone and I ended up having to do some extra work.
I posted this to the wrong board, sorry for those who have seen my question before.
I bought the SGS 4G over a year ago now, and I sucessfully rooted and unlocked the phone for use in Korea. During that time i kies'd my way up to Gingerbread which made me lose root, but it was still unlocked. I recently upgraded phones and was looking to sell my current Galaxy 4G. Since I didn't want my google account attached to the phone I stupidly reset the phone back to factory default. It told me that it wouldn't revert back to froyo so I thought I would be safe.
Is the phone now re-locked back to the Canadian telecom company it was originally bought from? Could a Korean use their SIM just like I have been doing? Since my new phone has micro-SIM I can't test this myself.
Also, if indeed it IS re-locked is it possible to unlock it without using my google account to redownload the unlocking app I used.
Thanks everyone.

I'm pretty sure once unlocked, always unlocked. There is a phone number command to type to see the status, you can google to find it, I can't remember.

You can now use the unlock code when you put in the non-T-Mobile sim into your phone and unlock your phone. You can check the unlock status by dialling *#7465625#. All the locks should say "OFF".

You'll need to be on a stock BML rom to be able to check since I haven't ever been able to check using an MTD rom.
Have a samsung galaxy s1 i897 'captivate' from at&t phone.
Phone originally bought outright, didn't use for years, now trying to unlock so that a friend can use it.
First updated to the pacrom custom rom with kitkat 4.4 (is this part of the problem??) to test/be sure it would work before reenabling the phone. Got the unlock code from at&t - copied it exactly and it's FAILED now 3 times in a row, afraid to touch it with two left.
Is being under 4.4 part of the problem/does it have to have factory rom?
Asked some samsung people who suggested it may need to flash back to the original factory rom, but even thats not enough, mentioned "triangle" to "set back the clock" to pretend it's never been rooted or run a newer OS. Suggested it should then unlock. But also suggested certain Samsungs of this era were notorious for just not unlocking even with everything perfect which is why I was asking here before using up my last 2 attempts.
Does this all sound right/can only unlock the phone from the original factory ROM and OS version? Once unlocked when I update to PacRom/kitkat 4.4 I assume it stays unlocked or will it create a problem somehow?
If for some reason the last remaining 2 chances bite it, I assume this is what people normally mean by bricked and hopefully there's a recovery process or does locked to at&t forever really mean that?
I read the threads related to LG G5 from buyspry seller. Sadly I cannot revert the order I made on ebay I need to need few important things(to me) as I will be stuck with this Phone. I live in Bangladesh so I definitely cannot use it w/o SIM UNLOCKED.
I have known that If I upgrade or downgrade I will lose SIM UNLOCK.
Also I cannot root (till now) as it requires downgrade.
And I will be stuck with firmware it came in from the seller.
But still , Here are the things I really need to know :
1. If I compromise myself to use that firmware 20i_un (UNLOCKED) forever it comes from seller & do no modifications will the Phone be perfectly fine?
2. Does that awkward firmware gives or will give any OTA update? Cause if it gives and that accidentally gets installed I am screwed with a T-Mobile Locked device.
3. I will use my local GSM SIM , Will I be able to use Portable Hotspot with that ROM? (I couldn't, with my G2 At&t Unlocked stock At&t ROM)
4. Apart from any upgrade/downgrade(ROM flashing) is there any way I might lose UNLOCK???
Please guys, please do help me with these topics. I just recently damaged my LG G2 and lost a phone Xiaomi MI 4 (Mugged) I really am screwed

1) Probably.
2) Probably not.
3) No idea. You'd have to discuss that with your carrier.
4) Probably not, but it's still not clear how they achieved unlock via the ROM so who knows?

You lose unlock if you ever update or do anything to the ROM. Phone is garbage unless you're on Tmobile. Obviously you are going to want to update it eventually because it's assumed that LG will be issuing an official Oreo update.
I bought the device and reverted it to official firmware. With a few (lengthy) calls to Tmobile I eventually got them to white list my device for the Sim unlock app to work. I was first told that it was impossible for them to do because it wasn't a Tmobile device, meaning not purchased through tmobile (not sure how buyspry got them, maybe corporate wholesale or something).
I sent a bunch of photos to them showing the box and other tmobile documentation that came with the phone. They agreed to unlock it and after about a week's wait while tech support was working out the specifics, the app successfully unlocked it.
I am on tmobile but told them I preferred to have it unlocked if necessary for international travel.
So yeah, long story short if you're not on tmobile and have no way to get tmobile to officially unlock it return the device. Complain to eBay that the device had hacked firmware or whatever (which is 100% true) and they will let you return it.
