[Q] Need to restore to stock in order to RMA - HTC One S

Hi all, any help would be much appreciated.
I'm from Canada and bought the HTC One S from Expansys a few days ago. It was compatible with my Rogers network, however, I JUST switched over to Bell and unfortunately, this version of the phone, while unlocked, is not compatible with Bell's network. As a result, Expansys has agreed to let me return the phone, however, during the short time that I was using it, I had rooted and installed a custom rom (WITHOUT backing up the stock; boneheaded move, I know). The phone seems to be the European version from France, so I was thinking of restoring to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543588 however, I remember reading an article on Rootzwiki about how our phones are marked once we unlock the bootloader. Is there a way to remedy this? I'm afraid Expansys will reject my return if they notice that I've "tampered" with it and would like to return it fully to stock, unrooted, completely original everything.
Again, if anyone can direct me how to proceed, I would be so grateful. I have two weeks to send my phone back.
Thanks guys!
Thanks

I would love to know the answer to this as well. Kinda in the same boat...My main concern is removing CWM..Anyone have any info on this?

Based on all my readings thus far, it seems removing the "tampered" message is not possible yet.
In order to remove CWM and revert back to stock, I recommend hasoon2000's All-In-One Toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604677
There is an option to flash the stock recovery.

You can just do the following:
Remove root - can be easily done via superSU app from the settings menu, where is mentiones full unroot
Flash stock recovery
Relock bootloader.
After that if you want, just find the correct RUU file for your phone it it will flash it. The word tempered will go away, but it will just say "relocked"
I don't think that expansys will access the bootloader to check....Most employees are not tech savvy...As long as they power the phone on, without problems....you should be fine.

you will always see the brand relocked. untill we have al full s-off it wil be like this always.
just flash the correct ruu it came with,
if the phone works normal they wont have a reason to look at the bootloader.

[Q] Is my phone re-locked?

I posted this to the wrong board, sorry for those who have seen my question before.
I bought the SGS 4G over a year ago now, and I sucessfully rooted and unlocked the phone for use in Korea. During that time i kies'd my way up to Gingerbread which made me lose root, but it was still unlocked. I recently upgraded phones and was looking to sell my current Galaxy 4G. Since I didn't want my google account attached to the phone I stupidly reset the phone back to factory default. It told me that it wouldn't revert back to froyo so I thought I would be safe.
Is the phone now re-locked back to the Canadian telecom company it was originally bought from? Could a Korean use their SIM just like I have been doing? Since my new phone has micro-SIM I can't test this myself.
Also, if indeed it IS re-locked is it possible to unlock it without using my google account to redownload the unlocking app I used.
Thanks everyone.

I'm pretty sure once unlocked, always unlocked. There is a phone number command to type to see the status, you can google to find it, I can't remember.

You can now use the unlock code when you put in the non-T-Mobile sim into your phone and unlock your phone. You can check the unlock status by dialling *#7465625#. All the locks should say "OFF".

You'll need to be on a stock BML rom to be able to check since I haven't ever been able to check using an MTD rom.

[Q] Seriously need help with unlocked ATT One X

Alright guys, I am posting out of desperation.
I am no pro when it comes to rooting/unlocking/ROMming Android phones but I have read myself to death and I am not getting anywhere. I am almost willing to send this phone to someone who knows what they are doing. I really don't feel like buying another phone. In hindsight, I should've made sure I was getting a true unbranded HOX.
I bought an unlocked, AT&T One X from Amazon while I was in Afghanistan. Received the phone via APO, put in my Roshan SIM card, and was working fine. I traveled extensively in the past few months, all over the Middle East and South Asia, phone was working fine, I just picked up a local sim card and off I went.
Well then I went back to the US for the first time with this phone. Put in my TMobile SIM, and was working fine as well. Well now I left the country again, and now I can't pick up any networks at all. I have changed the radio via the USSD to GSM, WCDMA, everything, but can't pick up any networks. Keep in mind I also still have my SIM card that I bought when I was here. I insert the card, it says preparing sim card, etc, but won't find any networks.
How do I know if the phone is still SIM unlocked? Woulnd't it prompt me for an unlock code when I insterted the foreign SIM again? Do I need to root? Does my bootloader need to be unlocked to use any SIM?
What I was figuring I would try to do was flash a different ROM so I don't have to worry about this being an AT&T phone anymore. When I boot into the bootloader, it says LOCKED at the top with S-ON. There has never been an update done to the phone since I got it.
Things i've tried:
Any root for 1.85 ( I have tried every root for 1.85 you can search for on here)
RUU to update to 2.2 (says main battery power low, but it isn't)
Factory Reset
I really don't care so much to get a new ROM, I just want my phone to work. Here is what I get in the info page on the phone:
The bootloader says HBOOT 1.09 is installed
Kernel Version:
3.0.8-01155-gca24d1e
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT
Build Number
1.85.502.3_R2 CL63811 release-keys
Sense 4.0
Android 4.0.3
Software Number
1.85.502.3 710RD
If you need any more info let me know but I am dying here
Sim unlock and bootloader unlock are two different things. I don't think either has anything to do with the other.
Assuming you bought this from a legit seller on Amazon, factory unlocked is factory unlocked. I've never heard of a phone getting sim locked from putting in a sim card. If you didn't get a "input unlock code" the first time, your phone isn't sim locked and is not locked down to AT&T.
Before you can root, though, you have to unlock the bootloader. That's why your root attempts keep failing. You want to stay on 1.85, trust me--later firmware is more locked down.
Are you sure there's nothing wrong with the other sim card you got? Have you tried a new one?

Really? The bootloader has to be unlocked before you can root? I definitely thought it was the other way around. I guess that would explain it, then..
What I actually ended up doing was repeatably trying the RUU, and finally got it to take the 2.2FW upgrade. As soon as that happened, I was pulling down 4G like nobodies business. Though, now that i've read your post, I kind of wish I would've stuck with trying to get a new ROM on it, instead of upgrading. I really have no idea why a FW upgrade made the radio start working like magic, or what would casue that at all.

Progress is swift. I rooted using the 2.2 xfactor exploit and then unlocked the bootloader with the spoofed CID, now as soon as I figure it out I will install CleanROM 5.1..Hope I don't brick it!

As long as you stay in this forum, these phones are tough to brick. The only way to do it is to flash roms for the international (Tegra 3) version.
Note that on 2.20., you have to flash the boot.img in fastboot when you flash a rom.
Youll never brick your phone as long as you have access to the bootloader or recovery lol
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
If he wants cleanrom he won't have to be confused with fastboot. Just download rom and flash that sucker
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Do NOT RUU to 2.20! (never mind too late).
Looks like you figured things out.

Question: How to Lock and S-On back to factory settings?

I have to do a 14 day exchange on my phone. Bought it at Best Buy. I have a few dead pixels amongst other things. I'm very familiar with ADB, bootloader, custom recovery, and OS. Right now, my M8 is unlocked, s-off , and rooted. It's running a custom rooted RUU Rom. Before I attempt it, what would be the best way to get my phone back to its original state? Does Best Buy even care? Does my account get linked to HTC when it is sent back and I'm charged $600 for it being s-off? If I understand it correctly, and I'm asking if this is right, I would want to find and download and flash the original RUU through ADB, find and type in a line of code to Lock bootloader, and find and type in a line of code to s-on, right? Or does best buy not even check or care?

He is quite knowledgeable and gives a good discussion of what steps are appropriate/reasonable/safe to take in these situations.
Ok, I'll check out it. I also found this to install rooted original firmware back onto the HTC M8, it might help with my situation, or it might help with others http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2727831

Guide for former HTC Owners?

So I'm a long time HTC owner and my sister just got an S5 I plan to root tonight.
I'm also thinking of returning my M8 for an S5 after I check out my sisters. But I'm not sure I want to give up the M8 speakers.
Anyway I'm curious for others with experience from both sides about some terminology HTC vs Samsung.
1) Do "leaked" RUU's exist. These are official "Kits" that will basically put a phone back to factory (Firmware, Root Status, Recovery) etc.
It will do everything except remove S-OFF (see below). They are handy to have for warranty work and you botched something.
Often cleanly built ROM's are built from a base RUU rather than a "Dump".
2) Does anything like S-OFF exist. HTC phones can be typically exploited such that you have "S-OFF". This basically means you can install any firmware (radio etc.) beyond Android, Recovery.
3) Once rooted, will you get OTA updates? Will and OTA remove root? Could you loose root access through an OTA update?
With S-OFF none of this matters.
4) Without S-OFF it can be awkward to update the Kernels sometimes. Can the Kernels be easily updated with "Just" Root.
5) Does the phone display "Tampered" or "Unlocked" once rooted. If so how easy is it to remove that and get it back to factory after being rooted.

I will do my best....
1) Yes. Leaked do exist but are minimal for this phone at the moment. Samsung makes the current available for download right from them or is available in this forum. Just flash via Odin and will restore it to factory stock.
2) If I'm not mistaken the Sprint S5 bootloader is not locked. Therefore all you need to do is root and can flash away.
3) If you take an OTA while rooted you will lose root. However, it will not be possible to take the OTA successfully with a custom recovery installed. Best bet is to wait until someone modifies the OTA and re-packages for root users. Usually only takes a few days after official OTA is dropped.
4) Yes. Just a quick flash.
5) Yes. Status will change and cannot go back at this time once it is tripped. Can still go back to factory with stock recovery but status will still not be "Official".
Anyone please someone chime in and correct me on any of these if I am mistaken.

Status will be official (in settings "About Phone"). Just when you boot into download mode, knox counter tripped will be shown (0x1).
lol i remember asking all these questions exactly in reverse when i went from the s3 to the one...thanks goodness i came for the s4
On a more superficial note, you can also get a more htc vibe by installing the blinkfeed app thats been ported over by gakugaku. More info here ->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735764
Coming over to samsung after 6years with Htc was a little jarring, but this kinda softened the transition.
Thanks guys that was exactly what I needed. My sisters phone rooted just fine.
I did compare her phone to mine briefly and posted here about it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2749699
To sway me to the S5, I really wanted to like the S5 camera (at least as much), the Cell Reception and live with the speakers.
But that is proving really difficult.
The M8 has me very nervous of failing again especially when I keep seeing reports of owners having the same issue I did (lost 3G).
I think I'm trading my m8 to a guy straight across for the s5. I never had any problems with my s3 and the m8 has been a headache, but not for everyone. I know how you feel mswlogo.

Checking whether bootloader is locked, and unlocking it?

Hello,
I've searched through xda and other websites but couldn't find a proper answer -- my apologies if this was already asked and answered in an existing thread.
I have purchased a S6 from Amazon, but the device is branded with Swisscom, with an awful boot logo and sound, and a few specific apps.
I'm waiting for a nano sim, so for now I don't know if the phone is also simlocked.
I intend anyway to install custom roms, so I don't care much about this, however I can't find out whether the bootloader is locked or not (in which case, I'll have to send it back to Amazon I guess).
Can someone assist with this? The device is a SM-920F, I made the OTA update to 5.1.1 upon powering it (which might have been a bad idea actually, from what I read later..). Not sure what the bootloader and rom exact versions are, but I will add them to the post if necessary.
Thanks in advance!

Yes bootloader is unlocked. As far as which firmware you can use, you'll have to wait til you find out if its an international unlocked G920F. If so, you have many firmwares to choose from, just Odin and boot. Then recovery and factory reset and your CSC codes will all be lined up (that's just what I do) and happy flashing.
Thanks for the feedback.
Just got the nanosim, which registered just fine on Orange France, so the device appears to be unlocked and operational.
I'll proceed with rooting etc. in the coming days.
Cheers
