[Q] Updating bootloader, US Cellular, re: Status 7 error - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I am currently using the LiquidSmooth 2.1 rom on a Galaxy S3, i9300, US Cellular, but wanting to upgrade to the newly released 2.9.
I downloaded the correct, US cellular file from their official download page.
would post links for verification, however, I am a new user with under 10 posts, so I cannot.
The md5sum matches up, so I can't chalk it up to a bad download, but I tried multiple downloads, regardless.
I use clockwork mod v 6.0.3.6, which is most recent, according to their official website.
After "wipe data/factory reset", I wipe the cache partition, then dalvik cache. After which, I attempt flashing the rom.
This gives me the Status 7 error.

After searching, what I've found is that the main problems is an outdated recovery or bootloader.
I also found a "solution" of ridding the verification lines within the rom. I do not wish to do this.
And considering all guides I've found have been for Cyanagen, none match up with LiquidSmooth's coding, so I don't feel comfortable with it.
As mentioned, my recovery is updated. This leaves the bootloader.
I've found numerous results of how to update bootloaders, but none specific to my device and carrier.
The closest I've come is bootloaders for my device, but on Sprint. Each post has said to only use it with Sprint.
I followed the links to downloads, hoping it would lead to a fileshare site where I could visit the parent directory for other downloads.
They all were either direct downloads or had no parent directory, however.
There was brief mention of using ODIN, which I've used in the past, but I could not find any corresponding file.
Is it acceptable to use bootloaders of other carriers, regardless of what the posts say?
Or should I look for a different solution altogether?
I know enough to comprehend guides, but assume I know nothing when it comes to more advanced procedures.

US Cellular is the SCH-R350 NOT the GT-i9300, so which is it you have?
From the error, looks like you're flashing files for the wrong phone.
If you have a R350, you're in the wrong forum. If you have an i9300, you're flashing the wrong files... We can't really help until we know which. What does it say on teh sticker under the battery?

I was under the assumption that they were the same thing, i9300 being more of a hardware name, and SCH-R350 being more of a model number. My bad.
Under my battery, it says SCH-R350.
Regardless, the file I download is US Cellular specific, the file being Liquid-JB-v2.9-OFFICIAL-d2usc.zip
I assume this is for the SCH-R350 and the one specific to i9300 is what I've seen referred to as "international".
That's not the file I've been using, though.

Yep., the GT-i9300 and GT-i9305 Are "international" - for which this is the forum.. US Cellular is almost completely different phone and is not covered under this forum. Best bet is to get this thread moved to teh correct forum because any advice we give here could damage your phone irreparably.
Just use the /!\ button in teh top right of your post to report to a moderator and they can move it for you.
Good luck.

Reported and thank you.
I'll start searching using SCH-R350 instead to see if I can find better results now.

Hai there...
This is Rahul S Nair talking in behalf of Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro development (qualcomm blooded device).. I m a dev working for this device for creating a cwm... I successfully found a suitable method to root it formely.. But when we reached to cwm level we found that the device is not at all taking custom recoveries .. even a moded stock recovery is not being showing up.. whenever custom recovery flashes it ll give a black screen and reboot... after a long investigation we figured that this device have a locked bootloader.. Is it possible for you to unlock this guy....

How to flash back to a stock ROM?

Hi. Today I bought a 2nd hand Captivate that came with CM7 preloaded. I want to flash it back to stock 2.2/2.3. Now I already have a I9000 and I can flash/install ROMs on it no problem. However, I couldn't find any definitive tutorial for the Captivate after some searching.
Can someone kindly tell me the steps required to install a 100% stock ROM in the Captivate ? I don't think I have 3BR, even after looking at some YouTube tutorials and doing those things.
Thanks for the help !!

Care to give a link to a proper 3BR fix and n00b guide to stock restoration? Couldn't find anything extremely clear. Not everyone is a pro you know.
Do you mean the stock firmware that comes with a new Captivate? i.e. Touchwiz

Touchwiz is Samsung's ui overlay for Android. It comes not only with new captivate, but old captivates. And EVERY OTHER Samsung Android phone except the nexus lines.

lol! I meant "new" as in out of the box, un-modded. Lots of people confuse stock with AOSP. I wasn't sure which one the OP was asking about.
what is 3BR fix? and here is the link read the WHOLE post down to the bottom for instructions. [Stock ROMs](OneClicks Master Collection)+[Kernels (Stock & w/ CWM)]+[Modems] UPDATED
and where did i find it??? right where I said it was. XDA > Captivate > Development > STICKY.
might also want to read the new user guide in my sig, to help you find what ever you want all by yourself. but please note.... it requires reading...

Hello onetik and welcome to the Captivate community. Here are some threads I suggest you read before 1) doing anything to your Captivate, or 2) ask a question.
**Captivate Sticky Roll Up** Guides/Reference/WIKI Etc...
Captivate Connection Issues and Download Mode Help
[Stock ROMs](OneClicks Master Collection)+[Kernels (Stock & w/ CWM)]+[Modems] UPDATED
Those threads will possibly provide you with all the information you might need on all the modifications that can be done to the Captivate.
I have been tinkering with my phone since mid-September, and I like to think I can get out of any jam I might come across, even if it's doing something redundant as returning back to stock when it's not needed. Granted, you WILL come across a problem that merits asking a question, most people here will know whether you searched or not before you post your question.
So read up my friend, and soon enough you will want to go beyond just flashing a ROM. Lord knows I am just about ready to jump into theming

[Q] Youtube weird Problem

Hi guys , I am posting here to see if someone can help me with this little problem :good:
I've recently updated my Galaxy S3 from Android 4.0.1 to Android 4.2.2 and everything went ok except for something that I going to explain now
This is my system info right now :

It's in Spanish but I think that is easy to read
Now my problem is this :
It mean that "video format not supported" . It's the oficial app from google , so it's kinda weird in my opinion . I tried clearing cache
Reinstalling...and the result are the same .
Now , In order to check if the problem was flash or things like that , I tried Dolphing Browser and Google Chrome , and in both devices videos runs smoth , so what I think is that the problem is the app or anything that I am missing (plan is not to use the browser..it's an extreme alternative :silly
That's all I know , in my opinion is really weird so I dont have idea how to fix this , so thanks for any kind of help (I would like not to reset for this stupid thing..but if needed...I have no choise)
Well, it appears that you are using the international version of the S3 (GT-i9300). You may have better luck finding an answer that could be related to your device at the section dedicated to your device.
Let me point you to that section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1563
For the record, this is the device section for the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 (SCH-i535), which is a U.S. variant of the phone; it is much different than the version you may have.
I know this probably isn't the ideal answer you were looking for, but you will definitely be able to have your issue looked at by people who have the same exact phone as you, as this problem isn't too common in the Verizon S3 section.
Edit: I tried to make things easier, and found the thread from where you may have downloaded your rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2248892 . Asking in there may yield better responses.

What I have learned so far from the community
You Can't Root/Custom/flash a Verizon tab, which has a locked bootloader, neither you can use odin to flash a stock rom or firmware.
these are carrier locked devices and only the company has their way around it. absolutely no support outside their service centers. I am sorry but they won't give it away. don't flash any other device rom, as the device is a CDMA and the other device is either a GSM or a Wifi only tab. the other big difference is the chipset which is completely different from other tab and will never work.
my advice don't take any risk here.
see, if you can access recovery and factory reset the device.
update:
the people somehow got the SCH-I705 bootloader unlocked (it has the same chipset just the screen size difference 10.1 and 7.0 inches)
Check this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536364
some I915 users also flashed the I705 Rom, which resulted in a touchwiz error, I don't know what else issues they encountered. but it seems i915 could be rooted as well. as reported in that thread by a user. you should ask them as well, see all the options, then proceed with care.
Thanks for the info! But i have corrections about the tab its not SCH-I915 its SGH-T779
I found it after i try to go to download mode.
Im confused now, the sgh t779 is a t mobile but at the back of my tablet theres a logo or sticker of Verizon.

About the sgh-t779 it has a Qualcomm secure boot, does it mean that i still cant flash stock rom at all just like the SCH-I915

there you go, you have got a official stock firmware from samsung.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-T779/
you have working download mode, and there is a firmware.
flash and check.
but before you do, check the recovery option, by pressing the Power and Volume Down(left button), see if it works after clearing data or factory reset

G935PAVT cross bootloader, flash Chinese Version , support ALL lte band,Knox stil 0!!

http://bbs.romup.com/forum.php?mod=v...extra=page=1
This post said the Their method is applicable to all of the Samsung machine locks BL.
They are already do this, and will not share the way..
It is said that ,the G935A,G935T,G935P,G935V cross bootloader flash Chinese Version ,and support ALL band(gam, cdma, wcdma ,tdscdma, lte) ,all carrier, all
country..
And I get a S7 EDGE G935V, It unlock and flashed, following the picture
I think there are three possible ways to achieve this effect.
1.、use odin flash the eng kernel, and root. then use Z3X or other box to change the Bootloader Recognized identifier
2、Making a special data line, to achieve strong brush the other version of the firmware. (The other phone use this way..)
3、Modify other editions Samsung firmware identifier,To achieve the bypass bootloader to flash the other version.
【I think this is the highest probability】

I am very pleased to see so many reply.
I see the reply ,and generally do some answer.
1、The phone is T-mobile,It seems that it flash the Version Version frist
2、After flash Chinese version, the bootloader is still locked
This is really strange, the S7 and S7 EDGE ,US version in the US no one cracks, but it cracked in China and they started to do Paid services..
In ShenZhen ,they flash a phone ,charge $ 20

Question problem with notifications

hello everyone
I recently bought a motorola edge s on ebay from china and I noticed that unless I open an app on regular time intervals the app times out and I don't get any notification until the next time I open the app
I tried messing with the settings and disabled battery optimization but it didn't work
I wonder if anyone has encountered this kind of problem and if it has to do that the device version is chinese
if so what can be a solution to it?
I read on the forum that flashing a global version of the android os is one solution to this problem, however I have no experience in going through this kind of process and need a step by step guide specific to this device
if there's an easier solution to a novice like me it will be much appreciated
thank you all in advance
I had the same issue. However your only option will be to flash. China's regulations on phones has the Chinese ROM so broken that it barely functions. Just do your research, and you'll be fine. Make sure you follow the steps to the letter though. And if you have issues, dont be afraid to ask questions in the related threads.
To give you an idea, the moment I flashed my Edge S to the global rom, it was like an entirely different phone. The experience was INSTANTLY better.

I would message this guy. I flashed my phone using LMSU as per his recommendation.
Nahhh.. you don't need to flash to global ROM to get proper notification.
I still find it funny that some people haven't explored built-in Motorola apps as they are intended to help you solve the problem without the need to flash.
MOTOROLA DEVICE SHILED app is there for you to configure your notifications.
Select the app and "Allow running in background" and notification will come in without opening the app.

It does work.
Adding to that, you also NEED to put the apps in auto start.

There are several risks and consequences to unlocking the bootloader.
One is some banking apps will not work if the bootloader is unlocked.
Read the warnings on the unlocking page for more. (see link below)
If you still want to change the software channel from RetCN to another Retail channel like RetUS
See my instructions in this post.
