How to flash back to a stock ROM? - Captivate General

Hi. Today I bought a 2nd hand Captivate that came with CM7 preloaded. I want to flash it back to stock 2.2/2.3. Now I already have a I9000 and I can flash/install ROMs on it no problem. However, I couldn't find any definitive tutorial for the Captivate after some searching.
Can someone kindly tell me the steps required to install a 100% stock ROM in the Captivate ? I don't think I have 3BR, even after looking at some YouTube tutorials and doing those things.
Thanks for the help !!

Care to give a link to a proper 3BR fix and n00b guide to stock restoration? Couldn't find anything extremely clear. Not everyone is a pro you know.

Do you mean the stock firmware that comes with a new Captivate? i.e. Touchwiz

Touchwiz is Samsung's ui overlay for Android. It comes not only with new captivate, but old captivates. And EVERY OTHER Samsung Android phone except the nexus lines.

lol! I meant "new" as in out of the box, un-modded. Lots of people confuse stock with AOSP. I wasn't sure which one the OP was asking about.

what is 3BR fix? and here is the link read the WHOLE post down to the bottom for instructions. [Stock ROMs](OneClicks Master Collection)+[Kernels (Stock & w/ CWM)]+[Modems] UPDATED
and where did i find it??? right where I said it was. XDA > Captivate > Development > STICKY.
might also want to read the new user guide in my sig, to help you find what ever you want all by yourself. but please note.... it requires reading...

Sorry. I meant download mode. I can't get into download mode no matter what I do. So I can't even begin to follow your stock restoration instructions. Any fool-proof fixes for the download mode?

Download mode jig, if your USB port isn't fried it works in 2 seconds every time...

Hello onetik and welcome to the Captivate community. Here are some threads I suggest you read before 1) doing anything to your Captivate, or 2) ask a question.
**Captivate Sticky Roll Up** Guides/Reference/WIKI Etc...
Captivate Connection Issues and Download Mode Help
[Stock ROMs](OneClicks Master Collection)+[Kernels (Stock & w/ CWM)]+[Modems] UPDATED
Those threads will possibly provide you with all the information you might need on all the modifications that can be done to the Captivate.
I have been tinkering with my phone since mid-September, and I like to think I can get out of any jam I might come across, even if it's doing something redundant as returning back to stock when it's not needed. Granted, you WILL come across a problem that merits asking a question, most people here will know whether you searched or not before you post your question.
So read up my friend, and soon enough you will want to go beyond just flashing a ROM. Lord knows I am just about ready to jump into theming

Unrevoked Forever testers needed

We believe we are near ready to ship our incredible/evo solution to security off. Note this means you would have TRUE subradio level security off, and no matter what hboot/radio you flashed this would remain unless you purposely ran the command to reenable. We need a few people to help test slowly so we don't mass release and run into issues. We need folks at various levels of hboot/radio/rom, but the big thing is don't be afraid to loose your data or even brick. It's possible. Though we have not seen a permabrick yet from this. Truthfully, in the entire line of work we've done, there has only been ONE unrecoverable brick. And based on new knowledge that one might even have been fixable.
If interested, please join freenode channel #xxxxxxxxxxxxr to test... First 2-3 people only. Thanks!
EDIT: We are done for the night. It's looking good. We had 4 of 4 tests perfectly successful and rooted. Expect a full release soon unless something comes up! Stay tuned to http://www.unrevoked.com/forever

1. I'm NOT a dev, but could sprint etc ever give an OTA which would run a script to reenable??
2. For the testers are you looking for unrooted users only? (I thought Matt said it would only work for those already unrooted.)
THANKS FOR ALL YOU GUYS DO!!!!
I'm down have two phones
so whats the word guys it would be nice to flash the ota and see the difference between stock and the roms so far
Will release soon

Good question, yes there is ONE thing that could reenable this. But I don't think they'd use it as it would mess up all true testing phones out on the market. And this requires a custom recovery that can run unsigned zip's. That's about it.
Thanks guys your work is amazing and WOW how easy can it get? MANY MANY MANY thanks this worked on my 2.1 rooted and was able to immediately upgrade to 2.2 without an issue with root of course.
And as well it work flawlessly on my already rooted and upgraded to 2.2 evo
WOOHOO!!! and here are a couple of pics for proof

Did not have the pri...
Phone must ALREADY be ROOTED so as far as I have read if you rooted you dont have the 1.4pri
I thought the PRI was tied to the Hboot though? If this actually installs the current stock Hboot (79.0000) shouldn't your PRI be 1.40?

There is no slim ics for this phone yet so you flashed something for another phone....on that note just one click back to stock without flashing bootloaders and you'll hopefully be fine.

But not your exact phone model (SGH-T959W). Read a little more carefully next time. Though you might get flamed if you ask a question about it, it's better than bricking your phone. Next time try to make sure it IS for your phone before you flash.

Shoot...can't remember off the top of my head...but anything by att...if you can't tell what app it is by the apk name open the apk up in 7zip and look for the icon
There's a bunch you can remove, and you can always use other stock based roms as a reference, an easy way to find out if its needed is go to rooted stock uclb3, get titanium back up and start uninstalling apps when your done getting rid of apps rebiot and see how your doing

There's an old saying that goes something like, "Greatness innovates, but genius copies". There's another one that states that, "Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery". There's another, somewhat XDA specific, that goes, "Read/search everything on the forum, then ask a question that hasn't already been asked and answered". With that preamble,
1 - This question is probably better posed in the Q&A section. Dev section is for, well, development.
2 - Taking a direction from the above quotes, download a debloated rom, unzip it, and compare to the stock rom. Read the OPs of some of the other roms, sometimes they list all the apps that have been removed. Mostly, you'll be looking to remove things from /system/app.
3 - Read up on deodexing and zipaligning, unless you plan to use as a base a rom that already has this done.
4 - Ask permission and cite sources if you use anyone else's stuff.
5 - Google, read, research, search again, repeat...
I know it might not be totally safe, but I found these APK sheets for the SGS2.
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...1gdDJRekl4QmkyNmIzUmRvX2h3UDVkQXc&output=html
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...=0Ag43oj7rLQP4dENZcmhGN0ZUa3pHSENVeXlqUm5vV0E
I always use them as a guide when I go around trying to see what I can remove. It may or may not be totally compatible with the Infuse, but I haven't had any problems so far.
OP...this thread has been moved. Q&A threads should be created in the Infuse 4G Q&A section. Not in Development.
Finished De-Bloating, thanks for the lists dht2005. They were a big help.

Please, please, please! Read the stickies in each of this forums subsections. There you will find all the answers.
I make it a rule for myself to always read the stickies when i come to a new forum.
Of course this won't make you a developer but at least you won't be totally clueless like you are now.
Read all the stickies and you will be confident in what you are doing.
If you can't take the time to do this then you probably shouldn't be bothering with custom roms either.
Good luck.

Question problem with notifications

hello everyone
I recently bought a motorola edge s on ebay from china and I noticed that unless I open an app on regular time intervals the app times out and I don't get any notification until the next time I open the app
I tried messing with the settings and disabled battery optimization but it didn't work
I wonder if anyone has encountered this kind of problem and if it has to do that the device version is chinese
if so what can be a solution to it?
I read on the forum that flashing a global version of the android os is one solution to this problem, however I have no experience in going through this kind of process and need a step by step guide specific to this device
if there's an easier solution to a novice like me it will be much appreciated
thank you all in advance
I had the same issue. However your only option will be to flash. China's regulations on phones has the Chinese ROM so broken that it barely functions. Just do your research, and you'll be fine. Make sure you follow the steps to the letter though. And if you have issues, dont be afraid to ask questions in the related threads.
To give you an idea, the moment I flashed my Edge S to the global rom, it was like an entirely different phone. The experience was INSTANTLY better.

I would message this guy. I flashed my phone using LMSU as per his recommendation.
Nahhh.. you don't need to flash to global ROM to get proper notification.
I still find it funny that some people haven't explored built-in Motorola apps as they are intended to help you solve the problem without the need to flash.
MOTOROLA DEVICE SHILED app is there for you to configure your notifications.
Select the app and "Allow running in background" and notification will come in without opening the app.

There are several risks and consequences to unlocking the bootloader.
One is some banking apps will not work if the bootloader is unlocked.
Read the warnings on the unlocking page for more. (see link below)
If you still want to change the software channel from RetCN to another Retail channel like RetUS
