RK3188 Car PC...Unanswered Questions After Scouring Google - Android Stick & Console Computers General

Hi All,
I've been doing my homework to develop a car pc/carputer for my vehicle using one of the Android RK 3188 Mini PC's but have not found answers to a few of my concerns. If you have any leads to the answers below, or can directly answer them yourself, I will be forever thankful for your help!
1. I read about these Android PC's supporting capacitive but not resistive touch screens. Is this true, and if not, can you recommend some 7" touch screens to use for these? I've owned a Lilliput 7" touch screen which used the eGalaxy Touchkit drivers, but have been unable to find support for the Mini PC Sticks.
2. GPS Workaround: In the past I used a tetherGPS app from my phone to the tablet. Is this still workable? If not, can you recommend some GPS solutions?
3. Camera: I want to add on a reverse camera. Can anyone point me at a compatible WEATHERPROOF, and possibly night vision, camera?
Thanks for all the help in advance. Also, if you have embarked on this same adventure, please share your setup here. I am also not sure which Android Stick to purchase yet, so any recommendations on that aspect would be much appreciated as well! I am currently leaning toward either the CX-919 or the Tronsmart RK3188. Thanks again everyone!

hows your project going bizzle?. any progress?

[Q] Recommendation for Android Tablets pls
Hey Guys,
I have seen many threads with different versions of tablet and i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a good one.
I'm after a reasonably priced (meaning Chinese manufacturers less known brand) within a budget of £200, preferably 10 inch tablet.
I'm planning to upgrade afterwards to Android 2.2 or 2.3 (is possible) using your amazing mod ROMS.
Any advice recommendation would be great.
And any sellers that you have used (reliable ones) would also be much appreciated.
Cheers
Wolfy
just make sure you buy something with a capacitive touch screen. I bought a cheapie 7" tablet for my son to play some android games on and it is only resistive touch which makes it a pain to get used to.
It works but you'll want to spend the few extra bucks to get something nice.
Thanx a bunch
Hi folks,
thanx for suggestions.... let me check em out and see how they r.
i saw the latest Gipad and Sipad....... kinda of hit n miss in some areas.
any thoughts

Connecting Android tablet to external Touch screen

Hi,
If you have a Android tablet/device with Resistive Touch screen and HDMI out, you can probably connect an external LCD screen with Touch panel to it.
Based on- / inspired by- the Martin Drashkov experiment (martin.drashkov.com/2011/09/android-megapad-23-android-tablet-for.html) I tried a mod with a 23 inch Resistive touch Panel (and external LCD screen) on an Android Tablet with Resistive Touch screen and succeeded.
The Resistive screen tablets use - in most cases - 4 wire Resistive Touch panels.
These panels are "interchangeable". The 23 inch Resistive touch panel I used for my proof of concept worked absolutely fine and without the need to adjust settings on touch positions.
See my blog post about it:
beyondthekeeboard.wordpress.com/2011/10/05/bigscreen-android-with-touch/
If anyone is doing similar experiments, please share.
It is fun to know what else is going on.
Different approach
I`m digging your post out, since I´m just about to evaluate a different approach on adding a larger, external TS.
Since recent Android revisions have full support for USB host mode, it should be possible to use a large Multitouch-Monitor as output device (MHL to HDMI). The Touchscreen (Acer T231Hbmid MultiTouch) has an USB-Output for parsing the HID, which (I hope) should work with my SGS3.
I will post the results after testing this setup on weekend.

Hello, look your messages please)
Seriously would love to know if this worked.
I am thinking of getting a Android on a stick for use in a 23" touch panel exterior monitor for use as an interactive display at a trade show.
Wondering if this concept will work.
I have an Acer T231Hbmid MultiTouch and a MK802II Rikomagic device. I try, but i don´t get it to work. If you have any idea, tell me, i will test it.
Acer T231Hbmid + MK802II works (USB connected). Search for "Acer T231Hbmid + MK802II" at youtube.com (its a bit laggy). Just get the right driver compiled and insmod them with a terminal.
Here are some links that seem relevant. I have been wanting to try a similar thing over bluetooth (which is proving to be difficult so far). I am going to take a step back and try usb first now.

The Asus Transformer seems to use an input device configuration(idc) file, as I had my friend take a look and indeed there existed more than on my GS3. I think it is for the touchpad equipped keyboard.
I've been trying to do this for a while with my Dell 22" touch screen and my Motorola Xoom and it finally worked by using a USB OTG adapter from Amazon for about £1.50. Winner.
The only problem I have is having to use a keyboard to go home as the bar at the bottom of the screen is not displayed to touch. Is there a work around to this?
you guys are awesome!
There is definitely a market for this. A lot of people I know would love to have a larger touch display that can be set up in a car that can be used to control music, maps, and that plays movies while connected to an android phone.
I say you guys should put these ideas together and work on getting patents before someone exploits the market.
If you hold patents, other people with more time and resources can further developed the concepts, while you still get a piece of the pie.
Brilliant!

Another company looks like they have something similar to the MimicsX2 thing called "Smartphone Uplink SPU700". I am trying to find someone who has used it (or both would be excellent for an actual review/comparison ) before I buy one...
Woow interesting subject! :good:
I was wondering is there any possibility to do this with a nexus 5? My point is: can I make myself an external touch screen using the phone's slimport to hdmi capability to use it like an asus padfone or so (without additional battery)?
I would like to control my Samsung Galaxy S3 (MHL compatible) via a MHL 3.0 cable and this touchscreen. Any ideas/advice?

Wouldn't it be better to buy a cheap netbook? Mod it to use a better antenna, away you go.

[Q] Small device, running android which a clip on the back

Hi all,
Looking for a small android device, maybe bigger than a 6th gen iPod nano (ie the one that is simply a screen, can be turned in to a watch etc)
A phone or iPod touch sized device is too big. Closest I have found is a motoractv but the screen is just a bit toos mall.
So basically requirements are small, but bigger gain an iPod nano/motoactv, as light as possible, runs android.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Anyone have any ideas?

Eonon GA8153A support?

Hi all!
I just bought an Eonon GA8153A for my Seat Leon. Spec is as follows :
Designed for Volkswagen/SEAT/SKODA
Allwinner T8 Processor
Android 7.1 Nougat
2GB Ram
32GM Rom
Having been involved with tinkering in Android previously. I decided to look if a custom rom was available for it, I can't seem to find anything but I see lots of devices seem to all be the same ones just badged up differently. does anybody know if this unit will be compatible with any existing Roms?
Thanks in advance for any information anybody can offer!

So it's arrived today and I've installed it in my car, operation seems Smooth but seemingly simple feature of iPod connection is missing! I didn't expect that one to be missing. I knew Apple CarPlay was going to be a long shot but I did expect it to still have standard iPod connectivity via the usb cable!
I see there are CarPlay adapters so I'm contemplating ordering one of those for it. Both myself and my wife have Apple devices so would make sense to have the function really.
Before I spend even more money trying to get the head unit to do what I thought wore be basic functionality, am I missing the blatantly obvious to get iPod connection to work?
