I have bought a bluetooth keyboard for the galaxy note 10.1. The issue i am having is that the on screen keyboard still pops up whenever i am typing and it defeats the purpose of having the bluetooth keyboard. I am not rooted and I hope that I dont have to root just because of this. Is there a way to fix this issue because i only see half of the screen when using bluetooth keyboard. Thanks!

download "null keyboard" in the playstore

I use External Keyboard Helper Pro. Works well. I do not use my BT keyboard very often anymore though, so not sure if it works as well now as it did 6 months ago. Changed to a macbook air for heavy computing work needs and now use that for typing.

I hsve the keyboard up and running fine, but i was having trouble not being able to close the keyboard like the default kindle keyboard, as it hides the soft buttons atthe bottom of the screen. Anyone know of a solution? Thanks in advance.
A downward swipe is supposed to close it, and in fact it does work on the Kindle Fire with the NON-Tablet SwiftKey X. However, the Tablet version doesn't respond to Swipe down. Urgh.
Randy
yeah swiftkey tablet x does not swipe down for me either
As a temporary workaround I've been using the cog to drop down the toggles menu and then the keyboard closes

Force close?
Has anyone experienced a forced close of Swiftkey X tablet? I had it installed and was using it but after a couple of days I start getting the app failing and it being forced closed and it appears to continue after that. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

i would go in and re install it (through your file explorer. that clears up all the issues with lots of others). i havnt had that happen to me although i switched to swype pretty quickly.
I'm using Switkey Tablet X on CM7 about week now, and i'ts working perfectly.
To close keyboard I'm using back button on status bar, and never experienced any troubles.

I'm running cm7.
I can't decide which to purchase, swiftkey tablet or non-tablet. any opinions?
Dont purchase now, try the Beta of version 3. Its totally awesome, you should try it. just google for swiftkey forum, register and grab the beta
Try thumb keyboard, it works well and you can close it

This is what I've been using and it works well. Would like to see them merge split the keyboard with a simple gesture like the keyboard on the iPad, but other than that it's been good.
Okay so bear with me here. I'm trying to figure out a way to connect my Samsung SGH-I927 (Captivate Glide) to the Note 10.1 so I can use the physical keyboard to type with on the tablet. Is this possible in any way so I can use the tablet as a monitor and my phone as a keyboard?
Sent from my GT-N8013 using XDA Premium HD app
No you cannot do that as to recognize the phone drivers will be required which is not possible
Why dont you just buy a usb keyboard in that case a cheaper option or a bluetooth one
Oh okay, I was just wondering if it was possible. I wanted to find another way for people to type on the tablet without having to buy a new device. Thanks for the answer though.

Sv: Connecting a phone with the Note 10.1 in order to use the phone's keyboard?
There are apps to remotely control other Android devices, isn't it possible that such a solution will work? Since you can control the controlled device both with the actual device and with the device acting as a remote control, you should be able to use your tablet for everything and then just use your phone to write. I've not tried this though, if anything I would like to use my tablet keyboard to my SGS3 but since I can send sms using my tablet there's really no point to be honest.

You understand what I'm trying to achieve here right? It would be nice to be able to type on the tablet without having the virtual keyboard come up on the screen, using your phone as the keyboard for your tablet. (I'm assuming it's easier for most people to type faster on the phone rather than tablet). I'm not talking just sms, more as overall typing in every app, if possible.
Again, this is just a question which I'm hoping that we can find an alternative to using a bluetooth keyboard. It would be helpful for anyone who doesn't want to lug around more accessories for their tablet.

I think so! I'm sorry if I confused you with the talk about sms, that's just a sidetrack why I don't think many have this kind of suggestion.
However, my solution for you would be this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tournesol.tabletremote something like this, an app that allows you to remotely control another Android device including typing words (at least that's what the description tells). So, you use your tablet like you use to do and when you click on something where you wish to write you minimize the software keyboard on the tablet and use the phone instead.
I've not tried the app though, but there's a couple of different apps that do almost the same but in different ways and hopefully someone will do the trick.

No, it's okay, i just didn't want to be limited to sms .
I was looking at apps last night but it was late and didn't feel like running tests on different applications. I looked at that yesterday, I'm going to try it out later today. (still in bed at the moment since it's only 6:47 am). I also saw this app, and the interface seems basic. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...m=organic&utm_term=android+mouse+and+keyboard I feel like this could work also. The remote desktop by Kolakowski Damian doesn't let you control the tablet in the manner that you want to.

Well, there's a chance that you have to test a couple of different apps before you find someone that does what you want it to do and more importantly, in the way you want it to. But I can't see why you shouldn't be able to do it, I have the Unified Remote app to control my PC with my phone and typing works great even though I don't get any auto correction. After all, it's a quite simple feature and shouldn't involve too much data transfers that can cause lag if implemented correctly.

Tablet remote definitely works, but there's one major problem to it when you use the physical keyboard on the glide. If I wanted to enter special characters (colon, semicolon, apostrophes) it would not register on the tablet and only certain keys would hit. It works for the regular virtual keyboard on the phone.
If you want an alternative, smaller keyboard for easier typing, try out tablet remote. I'm sure there are more apps which I will look into and post on here.

I'm basically just guessing here, but I think that might be because you are not using the same ASCII codes on your OS as your app. In my opinion that shouldn't be a problem since it should just send the codes to the other device, but if it's converting it to text before sending it over there might be a problem. After all, the most common use for this app I suppose is typing in an URL or maybe search for a song, at least that's that I'm doing when remotely control another device.
If there's not any settings where to specify regions in the app, hopefully there's an app that supports US (?) keyboards.

Hello, I use Thumb Keyboard as my default keyboard but every time I turn off/on the tablet the Samsung Keyboard comes up as the default one. And yes, I set the Thumb Keyboard as the default in the settings. Anyone having this problem? Or a solution?

Similar issue
I and my husband both have Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablets running on Jellybean. Both have SwiftKey installed. Every time we turn the tablets on, we have to set SwiftKey as the default keyboard because it keeps changing it back to the Samsung keyboard. This is driving us both crazy. Our Galaxy Note II phones don't do it. Neither do our old Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 tablets or the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablets we returned to get the Note 10.1 devices. Does anyone know how to fix this? (I already uninstalled SwiftKey, rebooted, reinstalled SwiftKey, set it as default, and rebooted again to find that the issue continues.)
Thanks!
I had that issue before i rooted my device. Still on stock, but I installed Titanium backup and froze most of the bloat including the stock Samsung keyboard. Golden now.

I have two n8013 bought at same time. One does what you discribed and the other always comes up with thumbs. have not looked into what's causing it.
Mmmm... That's probably not the best solution but I'm going to try that....

I used to be able to use a different keyboard all the time (Thumb Keyboard) and still connect BT Keyboard but in JB I'm forced to switch to the Samsung Keyboard. I also always get the message that pops up showing the language, which forces the loss of a few keystrokes in most cases. Feels like Keyboard support was better in ICS. I'm going to try null keyboard and hopefully that helps.

I'm very sure that it pops up unless you indicate otherwise. Took me sometime to get it to not to by uninstalling the default one for the AOSP keyboard. Don't know why it can't be done in the settings.....
Well its not popping up and I didn't change anything in the settings
