Need some help on how to do this? At present I am HTC Dev unlocked, S-OFF HBOOT 1.27, The only RUU for my O2UK device is the very first release of GB, so I am gonna have to install that and get the OTA updates I guess, but how do I go about doing this? I have downloaded the RUU and tried to run it but it got so far and gave an error, probably because I was downgrading rather than upgrading.

Hi,
Why do you want OTA?
You have s-off,and you can run any ROM out there.
All of which are better than anything HTC are putting out.
And there are some who have used the OTA and lost s-off.

I've been playing about with ROMs and all have something annoying wrong with them, whether it be battery life, sluggishness, overheating. The phone ran better on GB
Why not try RCMix sense 3.5 gb rom? Very very good, i used it for a while.

Hi,
OK.
Look HERE
Choose a branded or general one.
The ones with a 10.56 or 10.58 radios are the ones you want.

Probably showing my ignorance but i would like to know if any functionality is lost by changing the bootloader of a rom to the revolutionary bootloader when s-offing the rom?
I would also be grateful if somebody could explain to me what improvements or ill effects a change of bootloader can invoke i.e. what parts of the functionality of the rom do the bootloader effect.
Bootloader doesn't affect the ROM at all. The bootloader is just what boots into a rom.

If you go through the Revolutionary process. You'll get a Hboot with a slightly different version.
You will however, get S-OFF and Su and a Custom Recovery (ClockworkMod, CWM).
The phone will operate normally. You will have the opportunity of backing it up (Nandroid), installing apps that require Root access and install Custom ROMs.
As I think the other poster mentioned, can't see it ATM, the bootloader is Phone based and independent of the ROM.
I originally used a similar process (AlphaRev) on my desire, AlphaRev and Unrevoked produced Revolutionary together.
From personal experience, it has not affected my phone in any adverse manner, as always YMMV. It opened possibilities though.
Then why are there different bootloaders??

Usually 'cos HTC release slightly different versions of them.
The latest one 1.19 seems more locked down for example.
TBH most folks just use Revolutionary to S-OFF etc. then just leave it at that, mine is 1.17.1111 Once it's done it's done. There is a new Radio that seems to require 1.19 but as my phone works well with the current version I have installed, I'm leaving that well alone.
According to their site they can apply S-OFF to the following versions: HTC Sensation (pyramid) 1.17.0006, .0008, .0011 and .0012, 1.18.0000
What are you actually trying to do / want to achieve ?
what u loose is if u are on stock can update using HTC OTA
If u are stock rom u will not be able to make the OTA updates as it will hang since it expect its own hboot, this is the drawback I know. u will have them to reload a stock copy to have the official hboot and recovery again.

Good point.
However Custom ROMs seem to be "nicer" and tend to have updates earlier.
EDIT: As a fellow Vodafone UK user I thought I'd add that: When I had my HTC Desire (was running Eclair initially) and Froyo was being released, Vf UK was one of the slowest companies to release it. As the newer Froyo offered significant improvements I jumped at the chance to go for a Carrier independent ROM that supported Froyo. Thus freeing myself from Vf release schedule and also removing the Vf bloat ware that I never used. I did suffer a set back when I got the Sensation as initially S-OFF wasn't possible. This situation looks like it'll repeat itself with the release of ICS. PM if you want more info.

I am trying to achieve the best possible stock experience but i don't want to lose the ability to root.
The reason i was asking was the fact that it was stated that, the new h-boot was needed for the new radio to work properly on the leaked ics with sense RUU which suggests that the bootloaders have slightly different functionality.

Ahh you're talking about 11.59..... Sorry I think I got off topic :-((
I've seen a few still using 10.58.........10.15... on ICS with success. I have downloaded an ICS ROM and it seems to work on HBoot 1.17.1111 with my radio. Reflashed back to CM7 though, but I now have the option. I'll reflash ICS again and just confirm it works on 3G and WiFi as usual. I didn't check too far when I first tried. Please bear in mind that these ICS ROMs are based on unreleased versions, so really a taster at the moment.
This might sound like a stupid question, but I really hope it is not.
I decided to test the waters with ICS and tried a couple of ROMs (Sense and Virtuous) that run the latest version of Google's OS. Sadly, in my opinion ICS is still not fully ready for our devices, as everything seems too slow in my opinion, and I also don't like the fact that we do not have access to some of the best kernels yet.
So, I decided to go back. Flashed a 2.3.x ROM and... I got a boot loop?
I made sure I was not making a mistake, so I wiped everything and tried again. Same issue. Wiped again and tried a different 2.3.x ROM and again, I got boot loops.
Then I decided to go back to ICS Virtuous Inquisition and everything worked.
Is this a known issue? Do I have to do something in order to return to 2.3.x? For example like flashing a previous firmware/Radio combo?
I would appreciate any help you can give me.
I have done it a couple of times. Once on my Droid 3 and again on my Galaxy tab 10.1. So it will depend on what you have. But in both cases. I was able to find an original ROM update. With the Galaxy tab I found it on the Samsung website, that took it right back to original condition, and with the droid 3, I found it hear in the forums.
I did it too. I didn't back up my ROM. But if you back up your ROM in the future, you wont have this issue. I'm still careless and don't back up my ROM, but I don't go backwards to often.
What Phone do you have? There can be other options as well.

I'm having the same problem. I get to the HTC logo then the phone reboots indefinitely. I'm trying to learn on downgrading the firmware and see if it solves the problem.
Yes, you'll need to downgrade your HBOOT.
If you have supercid, or a T-Mobile handset, this will take you back to 1.17: (I used it myself to go back to a GB rom after trying out ICS) http://www.mediafire.com/?4t9pep3e5hx6ljm
Rough instructions on how to flash it if you're not familiar: Rename it PG58IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sdcard, and boot into the bootloader. It will ask you to flash the file, choose yes and let it go.
And of course, you can then restore any nandroid backup of a GB rom, or install a fresh one, etc.
(if you're not supercid, just edit the android-info.txt file inside the zip and add your CID)
p.s. don't worry about downgrading the radio; I went back to a GB rom without downgrading the radio and everything is fine. Just downgrading the HBOOT is enough.
Downgraded to 1.17 and it still reboots, though I did a restore instead. I'll a fresh flash now.
Still doesn't work. How do I get to 1.23 again? I'm so confused now.

Use the 3.12 firmware and you can run both ICS and GB based roms, I run, CM7 (GB) and V Inquisition or V Quattro (both ICS).
I'm surprised you didn't like ICS, they're all alphas but pretty slick considering.
Yea man try inquisition from virtuous. Its extremely stable and able to be used as a daily. It feels like a finished rom.

Downgrade ur firmware and flash any gb rom.
(Hopefully) my last question. I have SuperCID (set to 11111111 as specified in that other instruction topic). Does this mean I can flash any previous firmware and even downgrade? I was not aware that this is what it does.
If I revert back to 1.17, will I lose S-OFF and have to repeat things?

Well, either I am extremely picky (which I am), or I did something wrong. But I do not consider these ROMs 'pretty slick'. I have owned far too many Android phones and tablets up until today, and given the dual-core CPU and advanced GPU inside Sensation XE, I was expecting the fastest, best, most fluid and slick experience yet, and... it does not deliver. I thought ICS allow the OS to use the second core, but again, something must be wrong because it certainly doesn't feel like it.
I am not saying that the experience is bad, by any means. Things are slick and fluid most of the time. But you do get occassional split-second hicc-ups, and I also have this 'feeling' that the framerate while moving around in Nova is below the best I have seen. So there you have it.
Many thanks is in order to all that helped.

For that you need 3.12 or 3.24, you can get them from mike1984's firmware sticky.
Last week I went back to stock to familiarize myself with the process (which unfortunately brought my HBoot to 1.14). I also decided to try out TWRP when I rooted again. But before I could finish up I hit a button in TWRP that didn't need any confirmation. I don't remember which button because it did what it did quicker than I could notice. After that I couldn't even flash a ROM because I couldn't mount the sd card and whatever happened erased everything on my phone but I ended up figuring that out.Now I'm on ViperOneS but I can't unroot. I can't flash either of the RUU (Error 155) that are for T-Mobile US I even changed my CID to 11111111 but no dice(and yes I did flash the stock recovery and boot before relocking). The only thing I can do to get close to unrooted stock is flash the nandroid of a rooted stock ROM. Now I haven't mentioned every method I've tried, so before I start getting bashed for not searching, I want to mention that I've been at this for about 4 days and I have tried EVERYTHING that I've found on XDA and other forums but nothings worked. Is it my HBoot that prevents from doing anything? Should get another One S? Or should I just be thankful that I have a functioning phone?
Sorry for the long winded post but I wanted to make sure I put in as much detail as possible.

It's most likely your hboot that prevents the RUU's from working. You can only use a RUU that contain a hboot of 1.14 or higher.
Since your signature says HBoot: 1.14 & Radio: 1.08ts.50.02.16_10.08e.50.04L. I assume you updated via the T-mobile US OTA, is that correct?
What's interesting is that other hboots in the 1.14 family are listed as 1.14.0002 but the T-mobile OTA the hboot is labeled 1.14.0004. I haven't seen anyone state if this is will prevent "downgrading" to 1.14.002 and don't feel like finding out myself.

I feel your pain. I updated with the OTA that moved us to hboot 1.13 before anyone said they changed the security :crying:.
The 1.84 and 1.53 RUU's wouldn't work for sure. 1.84 has the 1.13 hboot and 1.53 has the 1.09 hboot. Your only hope of using an RUU at this time is one of the Europe RUU's. The good news is that you already moved to supercid so you got that out of the way.
The ones that might work are the ones labeled "RUU_Ville_U_ICE_40_S_Europe_2.xxxxxx"
Here you can get the 2.21 RUU I can't recall if it's the 4.0.4 based one though. Not really sure where to get the other ones as file factory changed their download rules.

One last thing I did after installing that RUU was edit the build.prop to match some lines from the T-Mobile one:
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=24

I'm honestly not to sure on how to fix this. I've searched it before I went back to stock (going back to stock is a definite fix) and couldn't find much on it. I'm sure something has developed from it by now though. Actually :: navigates to another tab:: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1900644 if it's compatible with your ROM, this kernel claims to have a fix for wifi and sound (I don't know what the sound issue is all about) but try that, it might work. But most importantly search, read, search and read some more, especially since you're new to this, I've rooted many phones and I still had problems with the One S. Good luck!

Their Wifi breaks because they can't search for the fix. There are extra partitions that you have to flash in order to switch back and forth between all older bases and the newest Tmobile release.
T-Mobile Trickdroid and UnKnown_Retriution both work, and are both based on the latest T-Mobile release.
As for the partition, find them here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32170653&postcount=2668 I'm pretty sure you need a 1.09 hboot or lower to flash them.
Thanks. I don't think I had a choice of base I've had this 1 week. I'm hboot 1.14. I probably did the ota thoughtlessly in the first 5 minutes of owning this. Great phone but I like the nexus 7 base a little bettter for features. Looking forward to jellybean.

Their Wifi breaks because they can't search for the fix. There are extra partitions that you have to flash in order to switch back and forth between all older bases and the newest Tmobile release.

Im also on Hbot 14 and from what I keep reading there is no fix for our wifi issue since the patches ore for 9 and down. however, I'll try one of those roms. Thanks!
If you ran the T-Mobile update, which gives you HBOOT 1.14, your stuck with only running that same base roms for Wi-Fi to work. The only other option is to super cid and run RUU's 2.21 or 2.31 for it Wi-Fi to work on non 2.35 based roms.

So... To recap... 235 is current, the mod writers haven't caught up yet, and supercid involving 'dd' is an option for the impatient based on One X supercid.
dd is the quickest way to blow up a boot sector with a typo. I'm patient but at least this thread exists for the other unwary ota'rs
Might wanna try this if its true. I was reading the super cid thread but they didn't really touch bases on the subject. I wouldn't mind running strickly US sense roms but all the developement is on the Euro side and I need me some wifi so besides the eye candy its as good as it gets for us 1.14s. Hopefully you're right.
However, will super cid and new ruu save those files where the lower hboots have them? Also will I still have 1.14 ?
Seems weird to me that an OTA did that. I wonder if you could go into the TMo OTA edit some stuff and run the update and not get screwed. If only I knew more... I would dream less lol
Your stuck on HBOOT 1.14. Running RUU 2.21 or 2.31 will allow you to run any EU based rom with working Wi-Fi.

definitely want to try this
I'd like to return to stock JB for moonshine S-OFF, and the software version that was last installed before I rooted was 3.14.531.17 710RD. This was the small update that was released to fix the battery drain after the release of JB for the One S. It was released right after 3.14.531.11, which I see an RUU for. My question is: Can I use the 3.14.531.11 RUU (detailed RUU name: RUU_Ville_U_JB_45_S_TMOUS_3.14.531.11_Radio_1.13.50.05.31_10.30.50.08L_release_309489_signed_ICS_2) even though I upgraded, before rooting and installing CM10.1, to 3.14.531.17? All other relevant information matches.
Thanks.
EDIT: Nevermind, stupid question. Of course that number denotes the software version so I'll be fine for S-OFF as long as I don't OTA upgrade to 3.14.531.17.
can someone confirm this? been trying to find info on this, having no luck.
I don't know if you need them to match but I do know here is the link for the last updates RUU

Yes, this is correct. Use that RUU.exe to return to stock, and it will also work when using Moonshine.
That RUU.exe is for U.S. tmobile users.

Thanks for the info. Would have responded sooner but didn't notice your response till now. still quite knew to android (haven't even owned mine a month) , so have been reading A LOT.. You knew exactly what I was trying to achieve there. Success!! Got s-off, and supercid. Running MaximusHD 10.0.0 right now. One more quick question though if you don't mind. Can there be issues switching between mods, as long as I don't go ruu obviously. Thanks for your time.

Mods? I don't use any mods on Maximus, so I don't know about that.
If you mean switching between ROMs when you have Maximus installed, then yes, you need to downgrade your firmware to try any other rom after Maximus is installed.
