This might sound like a stupid question, but I really hope it is not.
I decided to test the waters with ICS and tried a couple of ROMs (Sense and Virtuous) that run the latest version of Google's OS. Sadly, in my opinion ICS is still not fully ready for our devices, as everything seems too slow in my opinion, and I also don't like the fact that we do not have access to some of the best kernels yet.
So, I decided to go back. Flashed a 2.3.x ROM and... I got a boot loop?
I made sure I was not making a mistake, so I wiped everything and tried again. Same issue. Wiped again and tried a different 2.3.x ROM and again, I got boot loops.
Then I decided to go back to ICS Virtuous Inquisition and everything worked.
Is this a known issue? Do I have to do something in order to return to 2.3.x? For example like flashing a previous firmware/Radio combo?
I would appreciate any help you can give me.
I have done it a couple of times. Once on my Droid 3 and again on my Galaxy tab 10.1. So it will depend on what you have. But in both cases. I was able to find an original ROM update. With the Galaxy tab I found it on the Samsung website, that took it right back to original condition, and with the droid 3, I found it hear in the forums.
I did it too. I didn't back up my ROM. But if you back up your ROM in the future, you wont have this issue. I'm still careless and don't back up my ROM, but I don't go backwards to often.
What Phone do you have? There can be other options as well.

I'm having the same problem. I get to the HTC logo then the phone reboots indefinitely. I'm trying to learn on downgrading the firmware and see if it solves the problem.
Yes, you'll need to downgrade your HBOOT.
If you have supercid, or a T-Mobile handset, this will take you back to 1.17: (I used it myself to go back to a GB rom after trying out ICS) http://www.mediafire.com/?4t9pep3e5hx6ljm
Rough instructions on how to flash it if you're not familiar: Rename it PG58IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sdcard, and boot into the bootloader. It will ask you to flash the file, choose yes and let it go.
And of course, you can then restore any nandroid backup of a GB rom, or install a fresh one, etc.
(if you're not supercid, just edit the android-info.txt file inside the zip and add your CID)
p.s. don't worry about downgrading the radio; I went back to a GB rom without downgrading the radio and everything is fine. Just downgrading the HBOOT is enough.
Downgraded to 1.17 and it still reboots, though I did a restore instead. I'll a fresh flash now.
Still doesn't work. How do I get to 1.23 again? I'm so confused now.

Use the 3.12 firmware and you can run both ICS and GB based roms, I run, CM7 (GB) and V Inquisition or V Quattro (both ICS).
I'm surprised you didn't like ICS, they're all alphas but pretty slick considering.
Yea man try inquisition from virtuous. Its extremely stable and able to be used as a daily. It feels like a finished rom.

Downgrade ur firmware and flash any gb rom.
(Hopefully) my last question. I have SuperCID (set to 11111111 as specified in that other instruction topic). Does this mean I can flash any previous firmware and even downgrade? I was not aware that this is what it does.
If I revert back to 1.17, will I lose S-OFF and have to repeat things?

Well, either I am extremely picky (which I am), or I did something wrong. But I do not consider these ROMs 'pretty slick'. I have owned far too many Android phones and tablets up until today, and given the dual-core CPU and advanced GPU inside Sensation XE, I was expecting the fastest, best, most fluid and slick experience yet, and... it does not deliver. I thought ICS allow the OS to use the second core, but again, something must be wrong because it certainly doesn't feel like it.
I am not saying that the experience is bad, by any means. Things are slick and fluid most of the time. But you do get occassional split-second hicc-ups, and I also have this 'feeling' that the framerate while moving around in Nova is below the best I have seen. So there you have it.
Many thanks is in order to all that helped.

Well I tried the Sense-o-Maniac 2.3.5 sense 3.5 rom and I didn't really like it I guess cause I didn't notice anything different. Other than some bloat removed and beats audio which I loved! But I watched my phone go from 100% to 95% in 10 minutes of just listening to music....Dont Know why though....I would like to know what are the best roms that any of you can advise me to try that is good on battery life and get quite a differnet kick out of it if that makes sense
I haven't tried a Sense ROM if you're looking for that. CM7 is pretty different from any sort of Sense ROM but people have some mixed reviews on the battery life. It's been ok to pretty good for me, but I have an extended battery and I underclock/undervolt and use a custom kernel.
You could try Leedroid 4.0. Works great MIUI is awesome too. I personally use kernels from Faux but you could use stock kernels or kernels from Bricked too.

Please ANY HELP?
Extract the ROM.zip from ruu rename PG58IMG.zip, put on root of sd card, boot to hboot and, when prompted, yes to flash.

Simple and easy! relax. heres what you need to do:
1. U must be rooted and s-off which I assume you are, right?
2. Do superCID, It is very easy and simple. Scroll down here and follow instruction on #4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 Just download the adb tool, make sure you have htc synce installed in ur PC cause you need the HTC drivers and make sure your phone is plugged in as charge only. Also make sure you check usb debugging in settings.
Then basiclly follow the steps in # 4 .
3. Now after all that is done, it is time for the Firmware. Simple, download it from the posted link. Copy it and paste it into the root of your SD card. So you go computer >> Removable disk and paste it there. Now turn off your device. Then Boot your device holding power button + vol down button and you follow the screen just say yes! it will do itself until its done. Now shut ur phone down and removed the SD card. Plug it to your computer and removed the Firmware from your SD card. Then put the SD card back in phone, Boot your device holding power button + vol down button and do superwipe and then flash your ROM!!! you all set!! Again "Make sure u remove Firmware from SD card when its done installing or else you will end up in bootloops"!
Ejoy!
thank you. 2 more questions:
which firmware should i chose and i can still run gb on them ?
Virtuous inquisition runs on the 3.24 firmware(I believe, haven't checked the thread in a few days,) so I would flash the 3.24 firmware. Firmware 3.24 and above isn't compatible with gb roms though, so you'd have to flash older firmware if you wanted to revert to gb afterwards. Hope I helped

And that's the reason why you should have SuperCID first, so you can downgrade back to GB ROM.
If you're that much of a n00b then you shouldn't do ANYTHING until you know what you're doing. What if something goes wrong? Do you know the RUU to use to get back to stock?
Search and find the answers as knowledge is power!
I'd tend to side with Eddyos on this one. Flashing the newest firmware does give you ICS but it also complicates your life because it is more difficult to go back to GB. Personally I'm waiting for an actual official htc released ICS rom before I make the jump, GB does everything I need and want and doesn't give me any problems at all. I see you're on cm7 right now, have you tried any of the 3.0 or 3.5 rom's yet? If not, I'd give those a try first before jumping into the firmware upgrade and ICS, but it's all up to you in the end though, weigh the benefits vs the issues and decide for yourself if it's worth it.
I agree with ^^^^, flashed the ICS firmware on my phone, and while i like alot of the new functionality and visual look of it, it is definitely not complete.
Give it a few weeks and then make the move
Lol thats a bit harsh. A noob must learn by experience.

Nicely said Wait for the official release and try GB ROMs for now..and there are plenty of them to TRY
Hi. I'm a new user of this magnificient device since last Friday. Today, as I wanted to try the camera hq mod, I installed ARHD and didn't like it at all. Performance was noticeably better with stock rom and benchmarks gave me better scores. Right now I installed arhd's chef stock odexed rom and I'm not satisfied either.
So, I want to go back to stock ROM and my phone to behave as if nothing happened today. I don't mind about S-OFF and so on, I don't want to make it S-ON again, although it would be good. I just want to go back to stock rom.
In order to do this, I downloaded the latest RUU (RUU_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.5) and tried to install it, but it gives me an error at the beggining.
Thanks in advance
What does it say in h boot? You need to provide all of the information from h boot.

My phone is rooted with Juopounutbear with its hboot version 1.27.0000.
You need to downgrade your h boot to 1.17 to flash back to GB ROM. Then run the ruu,exe to return to stock. 1.27 h boot is for ICS only and is incompatible with GB. This is based on what I've been reading here on the forums.

as you are soff the only reason the ruu failed was because of cid error..
try checking your cid . "fastboot getvar cid"
if its HTC__001 then the above ruu works for you...
i recommend you to go for supercid ...ie cid as 11111111 this will give you the privilege to run any RUU... at the cost of not having updates..form HTC
to do that
1.go to fastboot on your device and connect it to your pc
2.type "fastboot oem writecid 11111111" without quotes and the cid should be eight 1's.
then run the RUU you are having...that should work...
if you want to recieve updates from HTC ...you can change your cid to any braned/unbranded version...
you can use the above command to change your cid to any value
( i recommend to have HTC__001 as its European unbranded and the device with this cid always receives updates first)
Thanks guys... I'm going to try and change my CID to normal as you say. Hope I can maintain my recovery at least.
PS: It's working ! Hope now I can make a nandroid backup of everything and be more safe about this

I had stock for about 3 months and now I've been using ARHD for a few months more, it's great, so much better in my opinion. Which kernel did you select?
If you have problems, pop a post into the ARHD thread, they're a friendly bunch and someone may be able to investigate why you are getting problems, because it *should* be a much better experience.
Running an RUU will unroot your device and give you the stock recovery. However, AFAIK, it won't remove your S-OFF (completely, but you might have to run Revolutionary again just to make sure it's alright)

100% stock freed phone without mods and bad experience? that was absolutely not my case, the performance of my phone was just fantastic, everything was snappy, Nenamark gave me more performance, Vellamo did the same and battery life wasn't bad at all.
Now I have ARHD ROM with sebastianfm's kernel, which is the one who gets closest to my stock phone performance. Battery life really sucks but I can cope with that.

I knew it would, and that's why I unlocked my bootloader again, instaled 4ext touch and made a nandroid backup. Then went back to ARHD because I missed my mods.
As the title states, I have a possible brick on my hands, the phone isn't mine and the person who uses it doesn't really mess with overclocking and such, it was running Miks rom GSM, and not overclocked (running at 1.18ghz) No overvolt either, it is an s-off device, before this it was a fully functional sensation.
Basically what i'm told is that the phone was in use and it just switched off.
No lights, no power, have tried three batteries, about 10 chargers, different usb cables, can't get to bootloader or recovery, adb won't recognise it, it appears to be just a dead phone, personally i'm guessing it's the mainboard but i thought i'd ask anyway, there are no signs of water damage or major droppage.
Popped over to dexters unbricking project but as i said the phone won't come on so it won't work.
As i said before it's not my phone, but i'd like to do a friend a favour if i could.
Any ideas?
Before anyone asks, I cannot get to the bootloader or recovery.
Many thanks.
Hope you get it working..but it's becoming quite common and no one seems to have any ideas. Mine did the same thing...and I just had the motherboard repaired!

On such a popular Rom it is a bit unsettling.
Is it firmware, radio, kernel, or rom?
I hadn't seen this many Sensations die like this back on Gingerbread.
I am not sure...seems to have happened on a few different ROMs...so maybe it's not a specific ROM? I just got mine back and rooted and S-off as I needed the root to unlock the simlock...but I am scared of installing any custom ROMs or radio etc....I am thinking maybe I'll just wait for the official t-mobile ICS update...

I'll be starting a thread to determine just that... I have my suspicions, but I'd like to know in one place what everyone was running.
I was running ARHD 6.6.2 Just flashed the ROM.. and seem to flash fine, able to boot up. Even reinstalled all the apps...then while calling...had this long tone from the phone...and phone was unresponsive...I pressed power button.. and it turned off.
The first time..it actually turned back on....so I thought maybe it's an issue with reinstalling the apps. Then when I called again...after 30sec-1 min...same tone again...then phone turned off and never turned on again...Battery was 100% charged.
I updated the correct firmware since I was already using insertcoin ICS ROM for a while before changing to ARHD 6.6.2
I am scared of installing a custom ROM now....I have rooted the phone again, S-off, Clockwork, superCID....but I am thinking maybe I should just wait for teh official update for ICS and leave it as that.

Change your CID back to T-MOB010 and you can...
FWIW, what kernel were you running when it took a dump?
I didn't install any custom kernel...I just installed the firmware as suggested.. and also the radio file that ARHD page says we should flash for T-mobile phones....
then flash the ROM as usual. Everything worked...the phone died while running the ROM.
So I need to change CID again to do OTA update? It's ok to leave it rooted, Clockwork, and S-off? Maybe I shouldn't have changed to super CID then?

You can leave it rooted and s-off (in fact you WANT to keep s-off), make sure your stock rom is un-modified, and you need to go back to stock recovery. If you leave superCID then it will not detect the update. It needs to refer to CID to find the correct update package for your device...
I haven't modify the Rom that's on here now. So stock recovery means removing clockwork ? And changing CID...is there a tutorial to do that?..

so ive tried all of the new jb sense roms. but i cant get wifi to stay on and i also cant remove the system apps. like google+.
other than that they just dont seem to be butter smooth.
I noticed there is an official ota update. so i figure all the developers will be focusing on these newer jb sense official based roms.
so it seems to be inevitable that i will need one as a daily driver.
I have the elemental kernal with initd.
I have flashed new 1.11 radio and the wifi partitions.
The wifi does seem to work a little better with the kernal but not when i need it the most. like when i have no 4g.
I am on 1.06 hboot still.
I was going to update but honestly i couldnt find proper instructions. I have the wrong cid for the one i tried to update with.
Then i kept finding all the things you cant do above 1.14 hboot.
My questions are.
Do i need the new hboot. or is there a good reliable way to get it running smooth on the 1.06.?
If so is there a link to some good instructions and a DL link? because i must keep looking passed it.
And if i upgrade, how impossible is it to downgrade? i swear i read you need linux.
Thanks.
I was on hboot 1.14 and basically sux cuz of limitation in flashing. So i successfully downgrade to 1.06. However 1.06 is buggy, now i'm on 1.09. ROM I use is ASBS along with Elemental-S-JB, Wifi Partition, and Sense Radio US 1.11t. I flash these all at one before rebooting the phone. Then i install Kernel Tuner. Phone is running at OC 1.8 and so far very smooth plus battery still good. Fully charge at 6:30am now 9:18am EST and only losing 9%. Power saver is off. Had no problem wifi issue or anything

Just to remember, when copy&paste make sure to change "sd* " to your corresponding sd*. The OP quoted with sdc on the code.

Now that's i'm on "downgrade to 1.09 from 1.14", seem to be better than 1.06 and getting to BL & twrp recovery seem to be faster (power+vol down) too.

I just stick to 1.06 what's 2 seconds when the downgrade has save me loads of time.
does anyone know if updating the hboot will fix the bugs assosiated with the new sense jb roms?
usually once theres an official update the roms run perfect so i wont have to worry about installing another ics rom.
the rom i likes before was one maximus, just works everytime. big fan of energy since the hd2 but i could never get wifi working on that either.
You know. looking back, all the apps i removed actually removed. except google plus. hmmm.
Maybe ill remove it in winrar like said before. i assume you need to remove more than just the apk though. guess thats another thread though.
As far as JB and Sense goes, I think we'll have to wait for the kernel source before we start seeing jb sense roms that works smooth and good. Alt. wait for HTC to release OTA updates..
My suggestion is to stick with ICS if you want sense, or an AOSP rom like cm10 if you want JB, for now.
I heard(well, read, if we are to be picky ) somewhere that the JB kernel from HTC blocks all write access to /system/, regardless of being root or not (retarded move, if you ask me).
So if thats true, the only way to remove system apps is to remove them from the rom image before flashing ...
Removing the .apk's from /system/apps should be enough.

Em what we have full root and can delete stuff from system.
myphonesbetter, I use WinRar myself and find it a better way of removing stuff.

Yah i could delete some things but some things wont delete. like google plus. and i think google plus is installed by goo.im or whatever. so i cant delete it from the zip file.
And I was under the impression that we had the official ota update. guess not. ill wait a little longer.
But we have jb ota since Xmas. Maybe you meant ruu jb.
BTW I updated my hboot and never had any issue (WiFi....) with any ROM based on htc jb.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
