So I had an xt926 rooted and unlocked with a 4.2.2 version of PAC, I have a backup of the phone in this state. My phone broke and i got a new one but it came with 9.18 on it, and I rolled back to 9.16 hoping to reopen the hole for motopocalypse, but i guess it doesn't work that way. So my question is, should i just let my phone update, and hope for a new way to unlock to come along, or should i keep 9.16 on it and again hope for a new way to come along? I would really like to get my old phone setup back, anyways thanks for any input or help.

Since your phone already had the update, you might as well go back to it, and re-root with Motochopper 1.1. If you hold your breath for an unlock to come out, you might pass out.

So finally the blaze has been confirmed along with others to get ICS which I knew would and am glad I haven't messed around with root or anything else so the update works and makes this phone even better!
Rooting shouldn't affect the process of updating or the update itself.
Anyway, I'm glad to see that this is happening.

I was under the impression if you changed the kernel you wouldn't receive OTA updates. The process is reversible, but just saying.
That being said, I'll continue my streak, and bet you $10 we don't see ICS from Samsung within the next 3 months.
Oh yeah, I forgot..... this may not be the case anymore, but I remember back in the 2.1-2.2 days that people were always looking for someone that had a phone on 2.1 that received the OTA update to 2.2 to not install it until they had a log thingamajiggie running, as it helped people do their magic with the official rom.
I'm no wizard but if this is desirable to anyone who wants to work on roms for this phone whenever they decide to push ICS to us, lemme know, and lemme know how to do it.
I had to unroot and restore everything to get the ota 2.2 update to work back when I had my Motorola...
All,
Just purchased a new Verizon GS3. Will keep it stock for the time being but want to know what steps should I do before I unroot and unlock? Should I update the phone via Verizon updates first then unroot and unlock? Or it doesn't matter and I can just unroot/unlock then update via ota updates?
Reason why I'm not installing a new ROM is that I've been reading the forums and there is not alot of stable ROM's out, regardless what rom this phone has, there is a couple of things not working. I need this phone as stable as possible for work reasons. If I'm wrong, please let me know what you recommend.
Thanks!
You don't really need to update the phone once your rooted and unlocked if you want to keep your phone rooted and unlocked. It will lock your phone and there may be no going back. The updates so far haven't locked our boot loader but that doesn't mean it won't happen. If you want to have root and an unlocked bootloader then NEVER update via the OTA Update feature on your phone. Just download the update after one if our excellent devs has fixed it up. All of the current stock updates are available to be flashed now.

If you need it stable then dont tinker with it!

Leave it stock, and root it. Purchase Titanium Backup and then freeze the apps that update the firmware. Then that should save your rear end in case VZW tries to pull a sneaky sneaky on this phone. And it will open you up to some basic cool things as well.
You see, in the Matrix they offered the blue or the red pill. But, here at XDA they offer something for every one. Even the ones that want to be in the middle. They offer the red pill- stock no root, blue pill- Rom the phone have fun with some headaches at times. And the purple pill, stock and root with some benefits.
There are stable roms for this phone, but in your case I guess you should stay stock.

I see that we can now unlock this phone. However, it came with 4.1.1 and I was not able to get root, and with a locked bootloader, there seemed little point in it. I took the OTA to 4.1.2 a few weeks ago when it came out.
So am I screwed? Can I roll the phone back to an earlier version, like I used to do with RSD Lite and my Droid X? Or am I completely hosed here?
I hate that by the time this can be rooted as is, the phone will be obsolete... Any suggestions? Apart from not buying Moto phones in the future? hehe
going to have to wait for root. it might not be tomorrow but i bet its not long. i went to root 4.1.2 but then decided to SBF cause it made it run so much better but now regret it.
Need to upgrade and am just about ready to pull the trigger on the M8. I understand the root/s-off issues with 4.4.4, and know 4.4.4 is the latest OTA, but if anyone out there has purchased/received their M8 in the last few weeks, can you let us know what OS version came on the phone (prior to the OTA taking hold which I know it will try and do almost right away after turning it on)?
Would love to know they are still coming with earlier versions and then plan to get s-off prior to taking any OTA so I'll be good to root and have fun with this thing.
Thanks!

I cant tell you about the retailers or carriers, but I received a new insurance replacement through asuron last friday and it came with 4.4.2 because I tried firewater at least a dozen times and it would not work. I even tried all the tips listed on xda and nothing worked so I had no choice but to use sunshine. I have seen a lot of posts on xda where people couldn't get firewater to work so I have no clue on that.
Just picked up a M8 yesterday. It came with 4.4.2. After a bit, it prompted upgrade to 4.4.3 which I took. Then it prompted for 4.4.4, which I denied. Confirmed WeakSauce 1.01 failed as has JCase stated. SunShine worked though and now I'm up and running with CM11 again
Got mine delivered from BB today. I'm guessing it had 4.4.2 since it immediately started downloading 4.4.3. I installed it after finding out FoxFi works with that update. Right after the update it asked to download 4.4.4. Without really thinking about it I started the download. I will have to keep declining the install until I make sure FoxFi works with the update. Any idea where to find that out? No contact link on the FoxFi website.
still 4.4.2
I ended up getting mine today and it also had 4.4.2. I was able to unlock and get root and twrp installed prior to any OTA's being installed. 1 OTA was downloaded, but didn't install it.
Anyone know where I can find that OTA download file so I can delete it? It is a large file so would be nice to remove it.....
I just got this phone and debating if I should root and unlock this phone. I'm a big fan of CM. I traded a friend for this phone. I used to have a gs5 and touchwiz was driving me crazy and that it could not be unlocked. This phone is way better. I have been rooting and unlocking since the days of the htc eris. I'll never buy another Samsung phone again. Sorry for the dumb post.
So do you have a question? Or what's the point behind the post
Yes, you should root and unlock. I have flashed more than a few roms on this pbone, but I have been on stock rooted for a couple months now. Mostly because it has the least amount of issues and most consistent performance. I got it all tweaked up though. IMO HTC did a great job on the stock ROM but to each there own.
And another big plus is that you can easily unroot and relock your phone back to 100% stock state (thankfully we have all the most recent stock ROM ruu's). So really as long as you know what your doing which it sounds like you do, you can only gain by rooting/s-off
No, wait a few weeks first so you know the phone works. You don't want to be those guys that spam issues in rom threads only to find out it's your phone and not the rom.
A rule of thumb I always follow is make sure it runs properly before you start modding. (Cars, phones, computers, etc.)
the real question is why wouldn't you unlock an S-OFF - full control over YOUR device for only $25 AND you can always go back to S-ON. :good:
I tried to unlock the boot loader through HTC Dev with no luck. My boot loader says ***software status*** Modified
***Locked**
He was running the phone on T-Mobile. I was wondering if he had it flashed to T-Mobile to work. Any Ideas!!
Never mind I just used sunshine apk and worked. Thank god
Bootloader still says modified. Only getting temp root, but s off

To get permanent root you will need to install a custom recovery and flash the supersu.zip and that will get you full root. You can then get rid of the temp root by uninstalling the apk
I figured it out. Its been awhile since I rooted and s-off. I already fixed the bootloader saying modified. Had to connect it to htcsync and do a repair. Thanks guys. I'm enjoying cm again.
