[Q] do these phones support multi-button headsets? - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had a Razr HD & Razr HD MAXX ... those phones recognized only a single headset button.
Do these phones work with 3-button headsets? (forward, play, reverse) ... like Samsung & htc phones do?

What sucks is the droid maxx didn't come with head sets. I bought the blue tooth head set, that's wraps around your head from Moto and they support the function you are requiring about

I'm old school and stick to wired headsets.
Kind of weird that no one else uses 3-button headsets, i think they're the cat's meow.

My earbuds from my Galaxy Nexus is single button and does not work on my Maxx.

That's strange! I wonder if it's an issue with that particular headset. I've used a Galaxy S3 headset on both HTC & HD Maxx phone. (only the pause button worked on the maxx)
If you are bored and feel like investigating further, download and install "KeyTest.apk" on your motorola and see what it says when you press the headset button.

Headsets for the S3.

Hi all,
I've got a pair of Bose earbuds with the mic and media controls on the headset cord, that worked beautifully as a headset for calls on my old iPhone. I realize that the media controls will not work on android, but is there a way to use these as a headset during calls? Or if there is any black magic ways to make the media controls work too, that would be amazing.
Thanks!

I've tried many headphones on the S3 that worked fine for me on the Galaxy Nexus only to find they don't work for phone calls. The only set I've found so far that works is the iBeats that come with the HTC Rezound
List for Samsung htc sony (not sony erricson) and Nokia lumia headset and headphones that work all three buttons & mic
- urbeats
- htc beats solo
- Sony smart headset
- Nocs NS200H-00
- Nokia purity
Update as I found some more
I got the Sony Ericsson mw60 Bluetooth stereo headset. Really like the led display Full music functions such as skip, rewind etc. When I'm in my car I can plug my phone in via auxiliary on head unit. I then can use the Bluetooth for voice search, music, and phone calls. It works better than the Bluetooth in the actual headset. There the hm300 by Samsung that has lossless audio but I can't complain about the quality on the Sony and the led display just sells it. Especially when I'm at work I can control the phone without having to touch it.

No because the headset was made for only apple products (hardware and not software is what's stoping the other 2 buttons from working)
Here's a few in ear headphones you could buy with android 3buttons that will work on the s3 and s4
Soul sl99s (don't forget the s in the end)
Ajay fives (android version)
Nokia purtity inear (they say windows phone but will work on android too)
Htc Urbeats (1st version also they say htc but will work on samsung s3)
APP (free) you could use with the headphone I just listed is called ajay headset control
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.jays.headsetcontrol
Hope that helps!
They also have android 3button cable
That would on few on and in ear headphones like beats solo or soul headphones

You can take any headphone with a detachable cord and buy a replacement cord with a mic that works for android. I have Skullcandy Hesh 2 headphones I just need to get a headphone cord with a mic.

Radioshack has one for $10. The one near me didn't have it so I have to travel to get it. that cord you mentioned cost as much as the Hesh 2 that will be $110 combined i am better of getting another pair of headphones. Best Buy also has some for $20. I live in the city so I don't have to travel far for a good deal.

Headphones w. Mic

Hello guys!
I'm interested in a pair of headphones/handsfree, but I've tried a few "universal" units and either the buttons or the mic doesn't work with the RAZR HD.
Is there any way we can identify which headphones/handsfree fit on our unit?
Thanks in advance.

I will try out my wife's Klipsch Reference One's when I get home and next week I will have a pair of Miles Davis Trumpets to try out too so I will let you know.

There are two specifications for implementing headset-based remote controls. One way is the way Apple implements headset controls. The other way is how everyone else in the industry implements headset controls. (sounds very "Apple-like" doesn't it?)
You can use this general rule:
If the headset says it works with the Apple iPhone, then it probably won't work for the Droid RAZR.
Quick example of this:
Klipsch Image S4: Version of headphones without headset controls.
Klipsch Image S4i: Same headphones, has headset controls that work with Apple iPhones (but not Android)
Klipsch Image S4a: Same headphones, has headset controls that work with Android.
Thanks for the input, but I have tried samsung galaxy s hands free for example and they don't work.

Just to be clear... the headphones and mic for these kinds of heatsets will always work regardless of intended Apple / Android manufacturer. Handling audio is just pure analog electrical signals.
However, the push button controls will depend on how the smartphone manufacturer implemented the control specifications. So even though your Dr. Dre Beats for your iPhone works for your Android smartphone, I'll bet that the buttons (Fast Forward / Rewind / Skip Track / Mute / Volume Up / Volume Down) does not work for Android the way that it works for iPhone.
I have been using Skullcandy ink'd with mic for over 6 months. At TjMaxx and Marshall's for $9.99. I also have Klipsch Promedia with Microphone. They both work flawlessly, but you can't go wrong with Skullcandy for the price. They sound awesome, come with lifetime warranty, and cost so little.
anyone can tell me if this

thks a lot!
I would assuming they are the mic one they will. I have a pair of skullcandy fmj's and they work just fine. Also have a pair of Skullcandy 50/50 just the track control buttons don't work but the middle button and the mic work

What headphone music controls will work with the Moto X 2014?

Wasn't sure where this would go, please move if inappropriate.
I bought the Sennheiser Momentum In-Ear (Android Version) back in October. They worked great with my Nexus 5 and the Note 4 I owned briefly. The buttons worked to control music playback and volume with no issue. On my Moto X 2014, the controls do not work at all. Play/pause, volume, skip track, etc... are all completely non-functional.
I thought that there were only two standards, iPhone and Android, and that all Android phones should work with the controls designed for any Android phone. Obviously I was wrong. Does anyone have IEMs/headphones that have in-line controls that actually work with the Moto X 2014? Note I am speaking only about wired headsets, not bluetooth.
My LG HBS-800s work perfectly with my Pure edition running Lollipop. I have only tested it with Play Music though.
Thank you for the recommendation. I am really looking for wired options though.
I have the Bose IE2 and the newer version and they both work.
I have noticed that my Samsung headphones dont work with the X either. Volume pause etc. Not sure why but I think it is on motos end why it doesn't work.

We had this conversation over on the Motorola site. Android does not bake in headphone control (except pause/pick-up/hang-up). Some manufacturers have, such as Samsung and I guess LG, and those work with all of the controls. Motorola does not add in the functionality. There are some headphones that work with a software driver (app) that looks for button press, but I've never tried those. I have gone to bluetooth for my phone.
My skullcandy Ink'd work. Play, pause, skip, previous.
Not my preferred pair but when I need the controls...

Hm, that's... odd since the headphones work on Nexus devices. And I would assume anything built in to a Nexus device is baked into Android...

Xiaomi Piston 2 In-Line Mic?

Hi,
I've just received my Xiaomi Piston 2's and the in-line volume buttons don't appear to work on the Moto X. The central pause/play button works fine. They work fine on a Nokia Lumia that I have lying around, so I don't think it's a problem with the earphones. I haven't had a chance to test them in any other Android phones though.
Additionally I'm having an issue with Moto Voice. I can launch Moto Voice by pressing and holding the central button, but it appears to be listening through the phone's microphone, not the in-line mic on the earphones. When using Google voice search straight from the home screen it picks it up fine from the earphone's mic. The microphone works fine in-call. I am disappointed because one of the main reasons I purchased these was to use Moto Voice while cycling.
I'm on stock Lollipop 5.0. I haven't tested them on KitKat.
Anybody experience anything similar? Any tips or advice?
I have the same issue as you
My headset works fine with nexus 5 but not with Moto X
I have the same problem with 5.0.2 in my Moto X2 but in my Samsung S2 the volume buttons works fine, so as you said its a Moto X2 problem
The volume controls on all three of my headsets (various manufacturers) do not work on my Moto X. I'm pretty sure it's just not compatible with volume controls.
The earphone buttons work grand in my other phones...
Does anybody know any workaround or "fix" for this? I'd really love to be able to use these with my Moto X instaed of bringing the Windows Phone around with me...
I was reading reviews about the Xiaomi Piston 2.1 headphones and came across this:
"remapping the button controls on android are a little more challenging. Your options are apps in google play to do this, going to mi.com and downloading/flashing xiaomi mi launcher for android, or living with the mapping as is. Volume up down for the two button side and pause, or answer call on the one button side."

Thanks, but I think that's just for remapping them, they *should* work fine without assigning custom actions to them.
I'm after dropping my set out of my pocket while cycling home so unfortunately I can't test it...
OT: Does anybody have any suggestions for earphones that do work with the Moto X (specifically with Moto Voice through the in line mic) ?
Xiaomi Piston 3 - also not work with MotoX
I have a Xiaomi Piston 3 and only middle button works to play/stop music.
Anybody founds a solution for others buttons?
it probably is an uncompatibility with audio jack in moto x 2014. these headsets uses ctia plugs, while moto x 2014 uses omtp jack. dont know if a conversor would make it work.
ps.: sorry, i'm not good in english

I think that's the case. Moto x 2014 as well as Moto X 2013 just don't support volume controls on headsets. Shame on Motorola. Those were not budget phones to cut the functionality.

Using a Motorola RAZR as a Bluetooth headset, paired to a modern smartphone?

I recently found my old Motorola RAZR V3 and had an interesting idea. I'm wondering if it's possible to pair the RAZR V3 to my Samsung S7 Edge as a sort of Bluetooth "hands-free" device instead of just tossing it away? I very much liked that particular phone and it'd be a nice taste of nostalgia!
I know it's a completely unnecessary desire, but I just think it would be cool to have the RAZR purely to answer voice calls but not have to set up another line with my cell provider (to set up call forwarding) essentially just using the RAZR's mic and speakers via Bluetooth link to my primary device.
I've looked and I haven't been able to find anything along those lines but I would think that it could be very doable. I realize (if at all possible) I would have to have my S7 and the RAZR in close proximity to one another and that's fine, Im intrigued about this very much and any help would be appreciated.
I know a Alcatel phone that had that feature and came paired with an old looking button phone to use as headset circa 2014 .....ever since then i wonder if i also can do that with my Razr V3
