This may seem as a stupid question.........but can MHL support be added via a kernel?? If yes, then can it done for this phone?

I'm not terribly good with kernels, and the only thing I understand is that if I have a custom one, I can overclock on SetCPU and do a few other things. I have ARHD 3.2.1 right now, but I don't know how kernels really work.
Sorry if this is a bit of a nooby question, but I am a noob C:
Thank You.
Try TastyMeh (in my signature)
Or Guevors test kernel (dev forum)
Both are similar, have awesome fixes, and oc to 1.7Ghz
You just got to try them out. Every unit is different so what may work for me might not work for you. +1 for guevors. 11b tends to still work best for most people.
Sorry for abusing this thread for a noobish question.
I was on stock ICS, rooted and installed guevor's test13 kernel for a while. Then switched to test15.
Yesterday I downloaded Full Wipe Script and Revolution ROM from dev thread, and used them:
1. Full Wipe
2. Install Revolution
My questions are ...
* Which kernel do I have now?
* Did the ROM installation change the kernel to the one that is included with the ROM?
* Maybe the ROM doesn't include a kernel, so I am still on test15?
BTW, I already checked on system info but I wasn't able to extract any useful info from that. I think that now I am using whatever kernel Revolution includes, but I am not sure.
Thanks in advance.

It will be the stock kernel that comes with the rom. Flash the test kernel again if you want it.

Patch the kernel and compile from source.
No, I'm not joking.
I believe the kernel devs are working on getting something a lot better than a governor on a 2.6 kernel, but I'll leave that to them to reveal at the proper time.

I wish I could compiled it
Hopefully the kernel devs are not givin up
Since this is a GB kernel, it should be simple, assuming you know how to recompile a kernel from source, just to grab the OC etc routines out of one of AntonX's or bhundven's kernels and then just stick them in and recompile. Since everyone is using the same kernel so far this would only need to be done once. This erzatz ICS is slow and sure could use OC, more governors etc.
I added smartassv2 last night, but want to get a "clean" build off the AOKP tree and have a few days running it before I release it to the wilds.
Standard statement: "OMG, I'm seeing incredible battery life, smooth as butter, WiFi signal strength is better, TVout works,..."

Download his rom unzip it grab the boot.img and flash it with heimdall. Then grab the wifi module(bcm4329 I think is the name lol) and push it to the same place u got it from (/system/lib/modules/)
----------------------------------------------
If helped don't be afraid to hit the thanks button it doesn't bite lol
DISCLAIMER: I'm not responsible neither is thomasraines or xda if you brick your device you are doing this on your own free will. The only thing you can say is how awesome thomas is for creating this and how awesome I am for uploading and writing directions. Any blame will result in me pointing and laughing uncontrollably.
Files removed thomsasraines posted the kernel in the dev section it can be found there. Please visit his thread and follow what he posted so you can get the full effect ok? If not tough I aint re upping the files .
Click the statement above for direct route to the kernel thread.
Unzip the bcm4329.ko, xda wouldnt let me upload a .ko file .
Put the bcm4329.ko file on your sdcard. Then using something like root explorer copy it to /system/lib/modules folder.
I suggest renaming the old one to bcm4329.ko.bak just in case.
Using heimdall you can flash the kernel using the following command.
Code:
heimdall flash --kernel boot.img
This is from terminal in ubuntu or cmd in windows. Make sure you are running the commands from the folder you put the boot.img in.
Once the phone reboots pull the battery and put it back in. Boot into recovery and run fix permissions. Then reboot.
so what will this do again? Is this for a kernel different than the kj6 one?
If you are unsure of what it is for then dont attempt the steps.
Do some more reading.
Edit nm

Dude, can you make it CWM flashable??
Hey guys
I'm running SlimBean 2.8.0 ROM and when I try flash a new kernel, device not boot. Logo Google pass and there isn't nothing more. Only backlight of hardware keys is on. SlimRom's boot animation is not show. I tried a lot of kernels (Matr1x, Air, vta2...) but no one was work. I tried wipe data and then flash a new kernel - no effect. Wiped dalvik cache - no effect. I tried to make clean install of SlimRom's (without Gapps) then flash new kernel - no effect again. Before flashing each of that kernels I make a clean install of SlimRom (with its stock kernel). Now I'm using stock kernel.
I need a custom kernel for USB host mode.
Any ideas?
Make sure you are flashing a cm kernel

+1 for that. At 2.8 SlimBean merged CM kernel code meaning you have to now flash the CM kernel and not the All Others.
I'll try this. Thanks
Edit: It works! Thanks again!
Hi, does anyone have a link to the bodivas repack kernel for the 6810? The link is missing from UTIA's second post in the thread for his kernel. I want to give his kernel a whirl. Thanks, Matt

I'll upload it later today. Forgot all about it sorry.
Firstly, did you flash the SkyHigh kernel after first boot of any ROM? Don't flash directly after ROM flash. Otherwise boot loop. Only after ROM full boot.
Secondly, make sure that you have no tweaks or tweaking apps etc installed.
For the ROM, you need to follow the installation instructions EXACTLY, using correct recovery version and full wipe install.
Other than that, unfortunately, your hardware may not like some of the kernel tweaking or UV etc.
BTW, I'm working on a SkyHigh kernel update. Maybe try that in future "IF" I ever get to release stage.....

It's weird, I had the same problem with your ROM on ICS. I was hoping JB would be different, but I got exactly the same stability problem. As you say, it must be something to do with the tweaks that upsets my tab. I can report that CIFS works fine with your kernel though!
Hi can anyone help me in installing cwm recovery in c2104 without flashing thunderzap, phantom or any other kernel?
My device is entirely rooted with an unlocked bootloader _
I don't know if this will work, but search xparts in the play store, it is an app for flashing xperia recoveries. Idk if it supports L though. But worth a try. Or just download a recovery from ROM manager. Also found in the play store.

Nothing different between flashing kernels or installing recovery. Flashing kernel is way easier and faster so I would just flash this instead going around and bothering with recovery instalation.

Thank you replying, actually i wanted to flash a couple of tweaks by using cwm_but it looks like now i really have to install a kernel_i have tried both phantom and thunderzap kernels before, phantom was laggy, and games were taking a lot of time in loading on the other hand thunderzap was pretty good but it consumed a lot of battery even when i was using the max frquency at 1ghz only_can you suggest me which kernel to install then, and if it is thunderzap what should be the cpu configuration?
