Patch the kernel and compile from source.
No, I'm not joking.
I believe the kernel devs are working on getting something a lot better than a governor on a 2.6 kernel, but I'll leave that to them to reveal at the proper time.

I wish I could compiled it
Hopefully the kernel devs are not givin up

Since this is a GB kernel, it should be simple, assuming you know how to recompile a kernel from source, just to grab the OC etc routines out of one of AntonX's or bhundven's kernels and then just stick them in and recompile. Since everyone is using the same kernel so far this would only need to be done once. This erzatz ICS is slow and sure could use OC, more governors etc.

I added smartassv2 last night, but want to get a "clean" build off the AOKP tree and have a few days running it before I release it to the wilds.
Standard statement: "OMG, I'm seeing incredible battery life, smooth as butter, WiFi signal strength is better, TVout works,..."

Download his rom unzip it grab the boot.img and flash it with heimdall. Then grab the wifi module(bcm4329 I think is the name lol) and push it to the same place u got it from (/system/lib/modules/)
----------------------------------------------
If helped don't be afraid to hit the thanks button it doesn't bite lol

DISCLAIMER: I'm not responsible neither is thomasraines or xda if you brick your device you are doing this on your own free will. The only thing you can say is how awesome thomas is for creating this and how awesome I am for uploading and writing directions. Any blame will result in me pointing and laughing uncontrollably.
Files removed thomsasraines posted the kernel in the dev section it can be found there. Please visit his thread and follow what he posted so you can get the full effect ok? If not tough I aint re upping the files .
Click the statement above for direct route to the kernel thread.
Unzip the bcm4329.ko, xda wouldnt let me upload a .ko file .
Put the bcm4329.ko file on your sdcard. Then using something like root explorer copy it to /system/lib/modules folder.
I suggest renaming the old one to bcm4329.ko.bak just in case.
Using heimdall you can flash the kernel using the following command.
Code:
heimdall flash --kernel boot.img
This is from terminal in ubuntu or cmd in windows. Make sure you are running the commands from the folder you put the boot.img in.
Once the phone reboots pull the battery and put it back in. Boot into recovery and run fix permissions. Then reboot.

so what will this do again? Is this for a kernel different than the kj6 one?

If you are unsure of what it is for then dont attempt the steps.
Do some more reading.

Edit nm

[Kernel] FluffKernel Epic 4G version 1.0.5 Rom Manager Compatiable

Here the the first offical release of Fluff Kernel for the Epic 4G
Ok here are two new versions for you all.One is the performance kernel and the other is the battery saver. Both are using the new version of my initramfs that comes with ChainsDD's Superuser.apk and su binary. So i suggest if you have Superuser.apk installed to uninstall it before flashing either of these kernels since Superuser.apk will be installed in /system/app instead of /data/app.And now for the kernels. Both of these kernels are Rom Manager compatiable and have root in them.
This is the battery saving kernel.Changes to it are:
Both Kernels are updated to DI18 sourcecode.
CPU governor set to userspace you can use SetCPU to set the speed of the kernel if you like although SetCPU seems a bit unstable on anything other then conservative.
Default scheduler set to CFQ
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/skeeterslint/FluffKernel-Epic-V1.0.5B.zip
This is the performance kernel.Changes to it are:
CPU governor set to performance your cpu will always be set to max this gives the best numbers in linpack and quadrant if numbers are you thing.
Default scheduler is set to CFQ.
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/skeeterslint/FluffKernel-Epic-V1.0.5P.zip
This is another battery saver kernel for those who don't want to mess with SetCPU is uses the conservative CPU governor that the overclocked kernels use.
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/skeeterslint/FluffKernel-Epic-V1.0.5C.zip
All kernels have been compiled against a toolchain that is stable on the newest OTA.And all kernels have been built with stock Samsung kernel source with no modifications to the source code all changes were to the .config file.

This zip can be flashed with ClockWorkMod or can be taken out of the zip and the zImage can put used as a replacement for the zImage in the one click root method although this kernel has root built into it.I recommend removing the JoeyKrim root method to not cuase and conflicts.
This kernel still has some Samsung bloat in it this will be stripped out as time goes on.I will also be trying out different combinations of CPU governors and schedulers to see which one performs the best.So please test it out and post your feedback.
Link to the stock samsung source that was used for these kernels.
http://opensource.samsung.com/ Please search for SPH-D700 DI18.

OK it was still broken but i promise its fixed now.The battery drain probably wasn't cuased by the kernel some people have had problems with android system running away and draining battery but it has nothing to do with the kernel they have flashed back to the stock kernel and still have had issues with battery drain and android system running away on them.

I wasn't implying that the drain was caused by the kernel, I was saying that my battery was draining because JuiceDefender wasn't able to disable the APN because my root access was broken. D/l-ing update now. Thanks again!

[KERNEL] AT&T Stock-ish 0.3 BLN/USB-OTG/NFS/FUSE/init.d/adb root/boot animation

This is a mostly stock AT&T kernel I've packaged up. Its features include the BLN patch, USB-OTG support and in-kernel NFS and FUSE modules. The ramdisk has been tweaked to support init.d scripts, adb as root and boot animations (on those ROMs that support it - such as my Alien ROM).
I've tried to keep any other changes to a minimum. There is no UV/OC patching, etc as this kernel along with Alien ROM already perform outstanding.
You can grab it here.
Version 0.2 with NLS UTF-8 support is here.
Version 0.3 based on the UCLA3 kernel is here. I recommend you use the UCLA3 modem from here.
If you want to revert to stock AT&T 2.3.6 UCKK1, you can get it here. Thanks to pookieguy for the stock files!
Source is here.

Sent via rooted SkyRocket
Battery life is the best I've seen. I'm running this on Skyrocketeer with the conservative governor set and the screen off frequency set at 192. Unlike Da_G's higher performance kernel, this one keeps the 2nd core offline until there is a heavy load, greatly increasing my battery life. I still get a 6400 score on CF-bench, while overclocked to 1.78 on Da_G's I get around 7800.
NM i got it.

Tsugi Rom-Anyone have access to UV rom?

Hey guys,
Searched the original page here, couldn't find an answer. So here's my question. Now that the US govt has done it and shut down websites, I was just wondering, would anyone happen to have a copy of the Tsugi ROM that's been undervolted?
If not, could someone point me to guides on how to undervolt and maybe even the ideal settings for overclocking using setcpu?
Thanks in advance!

Questions from a noob. Is this different from the undervolted file? What do I do with each file? Substitute them for the installation guide on the front page of the tsugi rom guide?
the one that i linked to on 2shared is the overclocked undervolted file. ideally you should flash the ROM first through CWM, and then the kernel through CWM. try the undervolted file, if its stable, then keep it, if its not stable, try the one that is just overclocked and not undervolted.

Kinda new to the world of flashing. How do you distinguish between the rom and the kernel?
in the development thread for the G2x, the rom threads start with [ROM], that would be the easiest way.

correct, the TSUGI rom has a smart installer that does everything for you. it simply installs the ROM. afterwards, its suggested that you get the oyasumi KERNEL.
ROM is most analogous to an operating system, and kernel allows the operating system to interact with the hardware. you need to install the two separately. ROM first, and then kernel.

If you don't mind me asking, how is it that the 'UXCLF5' Kernel works with the AT&T 'Skyrocket' variant phones? I thought the Rogers & AT&T phones were slightly different, just as the international version's hardware is different. Correct me if I'm wrong!
This is all new to me as I'm just beginning to understand what's going on here, and I'm very interested in delving into custom ROM development.

Back to Mohan's Cymbaline 1.3.
Can someone conform that bootanimation are working. I can't make them work. I make ton of them and have knowlage how to but on unsecure or stock no go on bootanimation.
Sean, how difficult would it be to put certain working files from Kernels like CymBaline (or the source it was built from) and inject them into a kernel like the one in this thread? Basically fixing the issues that still exist in the skyrocket kernels. Would having the source code from the Cymbaline build, but not from the syrocket build be an opstical? I am just wondering if it could be done. TIA.
Yes and no. But It wouldnt be from ice source. Ics nor ics source Has been released, yet. Or well ..its complicated..

Want to build your own Lightning Zap! kernel?
Here's the source:
Lightning Zap! kernel
Thanks to
jeffsfs for Hefe kernel source
All the great Devs at Team Acid
Team Fah-q
You guys for your support!
Change log and bug tracker
Release 2:
Included parts from jeffsf's hefe kernel
Now has OC/UV option (Works great with setcpu in Gummy)
New bootsplash
Fully integrated Lightning Zap tweaks
Only ROM based init.d tweaks needed. (Might want to remove any kernel based scripts from init.d, i.e. 04sys in Gummy)
Release 1:
Kernel is injected with Lightning Zap (Yep, it's built right into it)
Includeds necessary modules, binaries, libs
Includeds necessary init.d scripts to get the FULL Lightning Zap benefits
Download Links:
SGS4G_LZ_Kernal_r2.zip
Just download the zip, extract it, open /TeamFahQ-sgs4g_lz_kernel-ac3ecd1 and copy/cut all files and folders found inside
Then, in your build directory, navigate to /kernel/samsung/galaxys4gmtd, remove all files and folders in that directory and paste the ones you just copied.
If you just want to build the kernel and you are using the build directory from Team Acid or GummyMutt (source will be completed soon):
In terminal, navigate to your working directory
Type**:
Code:
source build/envsetup.sh
lunch
make bootimage
Then download the Lightning Zap! Tools to create a flashable cwm package
Just copy/paste boot.img and /system/modules/* into the /system folder, compress with 7z, place on sdcard, reboot to recovery, flash and enjoy.
**NOTE I use my GummyMutt directory to build so this may or may not work for you.
Lol...me first...let me guess...is this ur LZ kernel? hehe...great job Thomas
P/s: I am testing it as well and the build.prop is ok (no duplicate scripts ^^) as I added it in by default ...anw, I am forcing the battery to be drained and seems like it drains not so fast but not slow, too lol...just for the next full recharge to take a look on battery drainage of this

It sure is. Thanks for testing man! I made the .zip that I sent you wrong. I had the init.d scripts in the wrong place... and I forgot the sysctl.conf
Minor note...
In the tweak script init.d/04sys
on line 11
Code:
echo ${READ_AHEAD_KB} > /sys/block/mmcblk0/queue/read_ahead_kb
is executed, but the READ_AHEAD_KB value isn't set until line 26
Code:
READ_AHEAD_KB="4096"

Good call... thanks
But it doesn't matter cause later down the script, it sets it anyways... so it is doing the same thing, but I will fix it on the next update
Anybody tried this on miui?

I believe that this is the kernel already included with erikmm's latest build.
Edit: I stand corrected, refer to Thomas.Raines post above

It's not it's my own kernel and different than thomas one
----------------------------------------------
If helped don't be afraid to hit the thanks button it doesn't bite lol
Eollie brought to my attention that this kernel may not function well with slimics... slim is very picking Rom to say the least so if you are on that Rom, i would suggest not using the files lib and bin folder included in this package and see how it works... but it still should be ok to use the init.d scripts, sysctl.conf and boot.img

First off, this kernel and tweaks is already in gummymutt...lol
Second off, where does it not say it's going to 100mhz?
I think the not going to 100mhz is a known cm9 thing. I remember seeing ti talked about at some point.

CPUSpy is reporting some 100mhz activity on my set-up (SlimROM with LZ kernel modified as per Thomas's directions - i.e., using only boot.img, bcm4329.ko, and init.d scripts).
