looking for a horizontal belt case with velcro closure - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

Hi,
I've been looking for several weeks for a belt case that is :
- horizontal - not vertical, as vertical would not be practical for me to wear it all day, because of the length of the S4
- belt case - with at least two belt loops, better even if it would have an extra belt clip. don't like the ones with only a belt clip, don't want to risk having it grabbed from my belt while commuting in public transport every day
- with velcro closure - will never buy one with magnetic closure
why these specific requirements:
- I already have a Tech21 protection back case, so the case should be slightly larger to fit that
- I don't like the case + holster combos, bought one for another phone years ago but never used it, adds too much bulk
- I never wear my phone in my front/back pockets, I work at a desk most of the time, plus I have other stuff in my front pockets.
The only thing that I found on Amazon/eBay is a canvas case that checks all the above cases, I think it's originally intended for the Galaxy Note, I bought one, but I'm not happy with overall quality because of several things: bottom cut is too small, elasticated margins are kinda off centered, overall feels very cheap. I wasn't expecting a better quality, as I already used a similar case for some other phone, but this case being bigger, the "cheapness" feeling is largely increased, it's just a big, wrapped cardboard shell ... And given I'll have to cut out part of it in order to enlarge the bottom hole, it will degrade faster than normal I think.
So I'm again looking for an alternative, but I can't seem to find anything. NiteIze are smaller ( M and L ) or too large ( XL ), most leather ones are with magnetic closure, most canvas ones are vertical ...
Does anyone uses a similar case ? I've also searched the Note parts of the forum, but no luck there neither ... Any help much appreciated

Sorry, I can imagine that one point I'll have to relax some of my "must have" specs, but I won't have magnets sitting next to my phone for 8-10 hours a day. Magnetic closure is a definite no-go for me.
But some of the ebay sellers might be willing to replace the magnetic closure with a velcro one, I think I've done this 5-6 years ago with some other case bought on ebay.

Anyone uses the Nite Ize ( http://www.niteize.com/product/Clip-Case-Cargo-Sideways.asp ) ? Not sure if size L barely fits or is too small, and XL seems too large. And they don't quote internal dimensions :
External Case Dimensions:
Medium: 4.5" x 2.5" x 1"
Large: 5.5" x 3" x 1.7"
X-Large: 6.4" x 3.5" x 1"

I had the LARGE size for my Bionic and it worked really well... the S4 will fit, but it is VERY VERY tight...pain in the butt pushing it in without turning it on... so I don't use it anymore.
Was going to get an XL so I can use one again.
I carry business cards in there as well as one of these...(see attachment)
It held all that and my bonic well.

Thanks a lot, looks I can rule out Note Ize. I've measured the Note case and it's 5.8" ,looks like the XL at 6.4" will be too large, even with protective cover on.

These are a little pricey but it's the only company that I know that really lets you customize it just about however you like.

Thank you, I'll ask if they do Velcro.
For really pricey, look up the Easecase on ebay, I've had one of those customized with Velcro for a Nokia years ago, good quality but expensive.
So.far amazon sellers turned me down on Velcro, hope I'll have more luck on ebay.

Found another pricey one: http://www.ion-factory.com/carbon_pouch_note2.php
[Edit] My bad, the pictures are a bit misleading, has in fact a magnetic closure

I've been heavily searching the last few days, it seems the velcro cases are rather rare and the offer very polarized: you either get something cheap and lowish quality, either you pay a hefty price for good quality leather. By "heafty" I mean $50 or more, which to me looks rather expensive for a leather case, but of course YMMV.
Here are my findings, in case anyone else is looking for a similar case, sorted by price:
- 0-10$ - not many options, but there are a couple of canvas cases with velcro on amazon or ebay, if you want to use the S4 with a cover, look for Galaxy Note models. They're basically cardboard covered in nylon canvas, might have execution flaws, but one might get lucky and get a decent one. There's also a "USA Gear" neoprene case on Amazon for 9.99$
- 10-30$ - practically nothing ... everything in this range has magnetic closure, asked tens of ebay and amazon sellers for a velcro version, got back only negative answers
- 30-40$ - Fortte case for naked S4 Fortte "Leather Case for Samsung Galaxy S4 - Lateral Pouch". Belt loop is an extra $4, plus shipping so the real price is 40-50$ or more depending on the shipping destination. Velcro is an option at no extra cost. Different other paid customization options
- 40-60$ - Forte for S4 with case Leather Case for Samsung Galaxy S4 - Lateral - Size Your Pouch - you get to specify your measurements. Belt loop is an extra $4. Velcro is an option at no extra cost. Different other paid customization options. Need to add shipping costs to have a grand total.
- 50$ - Easecase - see ebay EASECASE shop. Can do velcro, can customize different options ( belt loop type and other ), different designs available. Free shipping worldwide.
- over 60$: tuff-as-nuts.com Nutshell Series: 224 Velcro is a well hidden option, last combo box way down the page. $64, probably plus shipping.
- over 80$: Col. Littleton - The Aviator Phone Holster - Large . Advertised for Iphone, but should fit a S4 probably with case ( Inside Dimensions - 6.125"W x 3"T ). Comes at 87.50$, probably plus shipping. Not velcro as I was looking for, but not magnetic either. But darn expensive.
In the end, it turns out it's even harder than I thought, to find what I was looking for, at a reasonable price. If anyone has other pointers, please don't hesitate to share.

Pouches

Here I am, in total confusion. Should I buy a pouch or case?
Here's what I feel, think and want:
I like a pouch, because the phone inside is pure. I can take it out and I'll be holding the phone in its slimmest form (read: original form). On the other hand, I have used pouches before with my LG Optimus 2X and the cover got these marks where it always slid over the pouch (basicly, cover was screwed).
That said, it's pretty clear. I like to hold the S5 like I got it from the box. On the other hand I would like it to have some protection.
I feel that a flip case (from Samsung) might suit me the best, because it's pretty thin and covers the screen as well.
But, somehow I think that this flip case might be a bit unhandy sometimes (taking pictures, holding it to type, sturdy?).
What I'm asking: does anyone have experience with large smartphones and pouches?
Here's some links:
S5 Flip wallet
Krusell Pouch 1
Krusell Pouch 2
(also, if you know some other pouches - perhaps tailored for the S5 - do tell!)
I am looking for a pouch as well..using the one for I got for the S3 but for obvious reasons, it doesnt close the top portion unless if i force the velcro to reach, lol.
I'm also looking for a pouch for my S5. I've purchased a couple off of ebay. They are always too big. Has anyone found one that they could recommend that fits a naked S5? Not one that can also fit a Note. This is a big phone already and I don't want to have an even bigger pouch on my belt.
I'm not in the practice to carry a purse around. I carry a pouch on my belt. I use it to carry my phone, nothing else. I have a wallet in my back pocket for cards and such. I like the look and feel of the phone itself. I don't want to cover my well designed phone with a cheap case or even and expensive one. I'm looking for a pouch that fits the s5 cleanly and naked. All I've seen so far are ones that fit it with a case on it or they are universal and big enough to also fit a note. The note is a class bigger than I need.

I don't know exactly what you are looking for but I just received this pouch and my naked S5 fits in it perfectly with no room to spare. You may have tried one like this already. Once clipped onto your belt the case can be rotated 360 degrees through eight different, fairly firm positions 45 degrees apart. If you don't want the rotation capability you could easily glue it in the position you want. The flap is held in place magnetically.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/191366031321
Those are the specs I am looking for. But I'm also wanting a horizontal pouch. I also need a very good clip. I usually get one that has the the extra belt loops on each side of the clip. I work on a ladder all the time and usually have other things on my belt also. I've had lesser clips work their way off while up there and phones don't do well from a drop that far up.

Galaxy S Relay Cases - Issue with durabillity

There appears to be a limited number of cases for Galaxy S Relay:
Incipio SA-316 Feather
Incipio SA-321/322 Dual Pro
Tmobile D3O
No name brand rubber case (but is actually hard plastic).
I went through the review and it appears that all of them have the same flaw. The front plate attaches to the screen using tabs, which then breaks after several months because it was dropped or bumped. So any case is likely to have this issue?

that's true of pretty much every slider phone case. i had a couple different cheap hard plastic cases on my droid2, droid 4 and now i have one on my relay. for me, having that extra lip on the front face makes it less likely for me to drop it when pulling the phone out of my pocket. and the cases are so cheap, it's no big deal if it breaks. just spend another $3 on amazon/ebay and you're good. or buy 2-3 at a time so you always have a spare on hand.
the shortest time i ever had one last on my droid2 or droid4 was about 6 months, and it was due to a particularly bad drop onto the concrete driveway. but the case did its job perfectly - sacrificed itself to save the phone. if i hadn't had a case, i'd have had a shattered screen for sure. well worth the $3 investment. that said, i only go thru 1-2 cases per phone, and i usually keep my phones about 2 years. i just got my relay a month ago but case construction seems identical to what i had on the d2/d4 - thin tabs to grab the edge of the chassis - so i expect similar performance.

I'm using T-Mobile's OEM cases for the Relay. They are thick and have that rubberized feel to them. They are durable and work just fine. I found a deal on eBay and got two for like $8.00. Not may other choices really.
I quit buying the ones with rubberized fell because they start peeling after a while plus the rubber picks up all kinds of lint and dust from my pocket. Also don't like how it feels on my ear and face during a call.
I originally got the D3O case that was the original Tmobile case. However the seller on ebay sent me a broken product with broken tabs. The texture was also kind of terrible like it had some sort of rubber fizz and it did add quite a bit of bulk. On the plus side, the buttons were covered.
I then got a second case from a vendor everydaysource for $3. This time case fit perfectly and did not have broken tabs. Durability of the case is rather suspected since it appears to be spray painted on rubberized pain, but it's worth $3.

Several sleeve reviews with pics

Hey all, thought I'd post a few quick reviews of some sleeves I ordered from Amazon. I've always preferred to keep my devices naked in hand, but protected in my pocket.
First up is the Rustic Leather iPhone 6 Plus Sleeve Handmade by Hide & Drink :: Guatemalan Cacao - $9.99 at time of review
Pros:
Cheap
Excellent Quality
Great Protection
Very Attractive
Can Charge Phone While In Case
Cons:
Adds A Slight Amount Of Width
I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of this case when I opened the package. For $10, this sleeve is an absolute no brainer. Honestly, I'd consider it a bargain at two to three times the price. I'm pretty sure I paid $50 for a similar iPod Touch case from Saddleback Leather a few years ago. This product is very comparable, but uses a thinner piece of leather. The Saddleback case was very rigid, which was good and bad. Good in that it was very protective, bad in that it was very bulky in the pocket. I'd actually say this case is a better product because of the thinner leather. It's certainly not skimpy by any means, and I think it's a better compromise of protection vs bulk.
As you can see from the product name, it was designed for the iPhone 6 Plus, but as you can also see from the pics, it's a perfect fit for the Nexus 6p. Very tight to slide the phone in, but fairly easy to remove because of the cutout at the bottom.
Highly Recommended

Next up is the xhorizon TM Dark Elastic Neoprene Absorbing Pouch Case Cover ZY for 5.5 inch iPhone 6 Plus - $6.49 at time of review
Pros:
Super Cheap
Decent Protection
Keeps Screen Clean
Slim In The Pocket
Cons:
Less Protective
There's not a whole lot to say about this simple Neoprene case, other than that it does its job well. The Nexus 6p fits perfectly inside and remains fairly snug, requiring a bit of a tug to remove. Nothing significant really, but you don't have to worry about your phone just falling out of this case. As you can see in the pics, the back of the case is slightly taller than the front, which offers a bit of added protection for the top of the phone.
Another nice feature of this case is that the Neoprene does a great job of cleaning the screen as you slide the phone in and out of the case. This became especially apparently when I switched from this case to the leather case above. All of a sudden my screen seems peppered with little dots of lint that I hadn't noticed before.
Protection from this case will be mostly limited to scratches and scuffs from the detritus in your pocket. It may help pad the device in the event of a short fall, but I certainly wouldn't depend on it. For my purposes, though, I find it to be a great case.

Third is the Synthetic Leather iPhone 6 Plus and 6S Plus Sleeve - Slightly Padded Microfiber Lined Executive Professional Synthetic Leather Case by Dockem (Dark Brown) - $9.99 at time of review
Pros:
Slim
Cons:
Unattractive
Creased
This was the first sleeve I ordered for my Nexus 6p and based on the 4.7 out of 5 star average Amazon review (out of 29 reviews!), I had fairly high expectations. This was probably one of the most disappointing items I've received in more than a decade of shopping at Amazon. As you can see in the last pic, it's a very flimsy, thin sleeve. The one I received has a very ugly crease through the middle of it, which was not caused by shipping as it was in a box laying flat with one other item and several inflatable pockets of cushioning.
The Nexus 6p does fit in the case, but it's a pretty tight fit. It's a little more difficult to extract the phone than I expected, but it is manageable with the slot cut out of the top. Not sure what else to say really, I hate this one.
Definitely Not Recommended

Last is the SOSAM 2Xpack Microfiber Sleeve Pouch Cover CasePouch For iphone 5 5S /iphone 6 6plus , Samsung HTC ONE / Blackberry Z10 Mini Wallet Purse Hand Bag Cloth Coin Cell Phone Bag Mobile Pouch (Black) - $8.00 at time of review
Pros:
Dirt Cheap
External Pocket
You Get Two?
Cons:
Major Lint Collector
Weird Clasp
You Get Two
At least with this case, I wasn't expecting much. With an effective cost of $4 each, how good can they be? Well, let's just put it this way, I want my $8 back. I have two dogs, and as soon as I opened this package, dog hair was immediately sucked from throughout my house to the felt of this pouch. You'd have thought these things were made by Dyson! On the positive side, the Nexus 6p fits fairly well into this case with a bit of extra room on the sides. The top is another matter though, the device protrudes a few millimeters from the top edge of the pouch. The unwieldy closure is a pain to use and despite the manufacturer's description of a drawstring closure, neither of mine function in that manner. You have to feed the longer string (with the bead) through the shorter string which catches on the bead to keep the pouch closed. Not very innovative and not really that functional.
About the only positive thing I have to say about this case is that it sports an external slot/pocket where you could store a pair of earbuds or a few bucks. Don't waste your money.
Absolutely NOT Recommended

That's too bad. I would love to find one that can handle a slim case. I need it to put my phone in when I stick it in my backpack prior to going through airport security.

A case that does it all?

Hello Everyone,
New Note 4 user here, (yeah sounds strange upgrading from the note 3 finally, but samsungs gone full potato) and like any other purchase, the hunt for cases is on. I have scoured the internet/ebay/threads for possible solutions to my dilemma and haven't found anything, so I figure its a good time to ask. With my N3 I had the Seidio Dilex Extended battery case with the belt clip holster. This was an amazing combo and accounted for 99% of my needs, minus the stupid negative incline when the phone was flat on its back, due to the kickstand bulge.
Anyways, I am having a hell of a hard time finding extended battery cases that have a kickstand, or have the plastic belt clip holsters for that matter. Essentially it looks like its the Zerolemon and thats it for holster combos, or if I want an integrated kickstand, its the mugen, for outrageous pricing.
I had originally hoped that I'd be able to reuse the same case and such from my n3 with some modifications, since these two phones are very close in size. Well that got quickly abandoned, but there was still the possibility of using the seidio case and cover/holster since they appeared to be the same dimensions. Wrong again.
The sides of the case have much steeper angle coming out from the phone on the bottom and top, but could possibly be adjusted depending on how or if I can rework the holster.
and the top
I have found a temporary starting point to try and reclaim some of the utility I had with my N3 with a few random pieces from amazon.
Anker has been out of stock for a while, unless you want to pay scalper prices on ebay, so I figured I'd give Kranich a whirl for the $25 they asked for 6400mah battery and the plastic textured back panel.
Next I picked up a generic tpu honeycomb case (hopefully this is better than the plastic crap I had on my SIII) for $10 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S1581X4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and lastly found a neat little gadget for another $10, a magnetic kickstand with adhesive. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HP15P60/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
My plan should it go well, is to try and either cut a loop in the tpu case and secure the kickstand to the plastic backing itself, or to the tpu on the outside if thats not possible. Either way, ill make sure to correct the confusing mistake seidio made by putting the kickstand on the bottom of the phone and having it lay with the bottom of the phone slightly elevated instead of flat.
This should get me back to at least the core level of performance that the seidio case I had before offered, with a little less protection I think.
The last problem however, is the belt holster (or whatever you want to call it). Again, not many options, so I am looking at modifying my existing seidio holster to fit my N4 or possibly getting an otterbox holster and trying to work with that. You know, interestingly enough, I figured Alibaba would be swarming with weird stuff like that, and I really didn't see anything different
If anyone has any bright ideas, I'd love to hear it. Or for that matter any other cool suggestions for gear.
==============================Update #1==========================================
TPU case came in, god this stuff still sucks, and spigen kcikstand as well. After slipping my note 4 into something more sensual, I decided it was time to try out the holster, which I prayed to the case gods would still fit, and i-it d-d-does! Success! It does in deed definitely fit securely in the mount, albeit a it rides a little higher in the clip due to being ever so slightly longer that the note 3 with the seidio case (works for me still).
Far Away shot.
Damnit, point and shoots are picky when shoplights are involved.
Now that the first test was an overwhelming success, I decided it was time to make some cuts and drop the kickstand in, maybe risk some fingers or violate some safety rules. I decided to cut my way through the TPU case (while half listening to a linus tech tips webisode) and attach the kickstand directly to the phone case for more stability and a slightly smoother surface and a little more professional look. Results below:
First was to figure out where to put the case, I noticed that the first set of honeycombs was almost a perfect border for the ends of the kickstand and those served as an excellent guide for my first cuts.
To achieve a straight cut, i used a square razor blade and tapped it down through the tpu into an old notepad. this have a nice clean straight edge, id soon have to murder since it was nowhere near wide enough for accommodate the whole kickstand. A halfway picture would have been nice, but I was eager to finish.
If you do decide to copy this, make sure you cut the material, almost too tight for the kickstand, so it fits snugly, instead of stretching and leaving a gap like mine did. I would have liked to have rounded my edges a little better, but oh well, its not like I bought the phone to look at the back.
In any case(oh god not the puns), I think it worked out pretty well, but I think I'm gonna try and find a few more TPU cases, maybe that are a little spongier since this hardly gives any protection for drops. An added benefit is the lip of the kickstand in this spot serves as a nice rest for your fingers while using the phone.
I own and use the Thor Champagne Gold version of this one for more than 18 months now: https://www.amazon.com/Galaxy-Note-Verus-Charcoal-Black/dp/B00MHBSHYG
and am very happy with it. Have dropped the Note4 while bicycling, and from other stupid high positions on stone, it has saved my Note4 many a time. These verus cases rock!
So try that brand, I bet you they have what you need.
Switched from Hyperion 8000mah with honeycomb tpu, now using Verus Iron Shield with Spigen kickstand add on and purchased 3 extra batteries with external charger for $23 US from Amazon. I have leather holster, but front pocket works just fine.

That looks and sounds amazing, and reminds me of some of the drops my note 3 has taken and survived. This is what I really, really wanted to reproduce with my note 4, because, well it makes sense. Only problem is, I really want an extended battery since charging is much slower than my n3, and I don't want to rely on batteries.

Love my Essential phone but have always used a holster case. Nothing specific yet but PDAir Leather holster from Cases.com for Galaxy S7 is a precise fit and E-grips from Amazon cut into narrow strips for the sides of the phone give great grip.

when I look for a belt clip/holster I want something that lasts. Any of the plastic clips either broke when sitting down in tight spaces or fell apart (I had three of them). I eventually went with TurtleBack holsters. You pay premium, but it's worth every penny. I've been using a 6.25" for a larger phone now for over a year and it still looks great (Nylon).
based on the PH-1's dimensions:
Height: 141.5mm = 5.57 inches
Width: 71.1mm = 2.8 inches
the 5.5" X 3" here should work.
If you will use a case then the next size up (5.87" X 3.25") should work great.

I just ordered the larger of the two. The holster I have now is too roomy and the phone moves too much. I'll update this with pictures once I get it.

HA! I got the exact same one today! Size Large (the extra large seemed a little too big)
For $9.98 it works fine, I bought another one on EBay but it was too tight - every time I put it in the holster the elastic sides would press against the power button, causing the phone to either turn and stay on, or go into bootloader mode! No good, so had to return it; this one from Walmart was cheaper and works better.
Now I want to add the Olixar Ultra-Thin Phone Case bumper guard when it comes out - hopefully the phone will still fit into this holster case.

I reached out to MobileFun.com a few weeks ago about that Olixar case and they absolutely have no ETA on that. My guess, never. I am using Incipio NGP Pure clear case and it works just fine with that holster.
I just ordered this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/PREMIUM-Le...var=541282532750&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
Looks like a good holster.
here is an update on the premium turtleback holster with pictures. Perfect fit with Incipio case.
It's of the quality of a gun holster, almost unbreakable.

Is it easy to put it in and out? Or, is it tight?

Yes, it's pretty much perfect for me
Anybody got the Olycism Essential PH-1 Phone Case cover (search for 'Olycism Essential PH-1 Phone Case cover' @ Amazon)? I like what I am seeing because I like having a recessed opening (rather than covers) for the side buttons.
Just wondering if anyone had one and what they thought of it.

I also like Seidio. I sent them an email and got a VERY fast response. They do not intent to make a case for the Essential Phone at this time.
Just stumbled upon a Seidio-style clam case & holster. I got hooked on these years ago, when Verizon sold them for each of their smartphones for $29. The rigid clam cases have protected my phones so well I've almost always been able to resell them as ""mint" condition, top dollar. The matching belt holster protects the glass while still allowing me to remove & use the phones one-handed. I'd given up on getting a clam case/holster for my Essential, though, rationalizing that the production numbers were too small. Then I stumbled across the picture (attached). Ordered mine today from Amazon. It's on eBay, too, but eBay's system wasn't working, failed (repeatedly) at the credit card info screen. The previous clam case/holster combos I've bought were all of a fine, tough plastic with a film of rubber texture overlaid & a velvety material on the inside of the holster that protected the phones' screens. This set appears to be the same but I haven't used it or even received it so I don't yet know if this product will be of the same rugged quality.

Just received mine from eBay.
The case itself provides good protection for the back of the phone and the sides, but does not protect the top and bottom of the phone where the ceramic meets the display glass. With the phone in the holster, all edges are protected.
The kickstand is actually pretty useful.
Unlike Sedio, the phone does not "click" in and out of the holster. Rather, you have to slide it in and out, which takes a bit more focus.
The best surprise is the tempered glass protector. It covers the entire display including the camera. It has a black border that matches the display perfectly. It also has clear areas for the sensors around the front camera. It only has adhesive along the border but the glass matches the case perfectly, so the edges don't lift up. No Halo or rainbow effect. Only negative is the fingerprints are more visible.
All in all, I'm going to use this combo, as I need a belt holster for my line of work.

I was wondering if the Sedio spring clip holster for the iPhone X would fit? The PH-1 is just a little shorter but otherwise the same size.

Just wondering if we have better solutions after all this time. What are people using?
This is what I'm using: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017HVSF2O/. It fits good and holds well. The height and width are perfect but the depth of the PH-1 is less than the iPhone 6/6S with Otterbox case that the holster is designed for. This makes the lower clips protrude and catch on things every now and again.

Thanks for sharing. I wonder if it would fit perfectly if we put PH-1 in a thicker case like these? They are both triple-layer cases, so I'm guessing they an add a good thickness.
