What is the story with all the speculations?. JB speculation, Sense 5 speculation, "get or not update" speculations. More speculation that "gold market". Is your phone really working that bad?. Why not just make one thread "IS HERE" and post a link - end of story. If I get the update, then good, but I will not cry about if I do not get it. My phone works great - so far.
Thread has gone way out of hand. Closed

They just announced the Windows 7 phone lineup and the release is going to be mid November for US................If I do not see Froyo with a GPS fix I might just jump ship. I am pretty aggravated at the way Samsung has handled this GPS thing by ignoring it publicly
Maybe for this one...........Samsung's i8910 HD-based Windows Phone 7

What does your thread title have to do with your post? XDA does not need another complaint thread about the Captivate. If you don't like it you will be able to see the alternatives as they come out. I reported your thread since it has nothing to do with the Captivate, if it stays open I hope you find the answer you are looking for.

Thanks, I changed the title to make it more clear.
I am just trying to see if others are thinking of doing the same.
Other than the GPS problem I haven't found anything wrong per-se with the phone. Yes there were a few Samsung-tweaks done that you have to play with to really get the most out of your phone but in comparison to the EVO4G (having tested them personally) which has way more bloatware and kryptic UI changes, I think this is an all around better phone. It's lightweight, has a great screen, Android platform, and it's not going to be experimental like the Windows 7 phone.
Why don't you like the phone? Just because GPS doesn't work? I'm pissed it doesn't work either because I had a crappy G1 with no 3G that I was using unlocked on ATT for a year until ATT finally came out with an "omg wow nice phone" Android phone worth buying.
If they are offering a fix through software that is legitimately going to work then I welcome it. Until then, I'm going to just read maps normally like we did back in the ole days...ha!
ps:
Please don't call it a Cappy, that is an atrocious name.
Y'know.. i've seen too many of these threads. I understand that you're unhappy with the Captivate because of the GPS problem and perhaps it's not the right phone for you. However, I don't think these threads belong on the Captivate forum. The forum is for people who, i think, want to stick with the phone. I, for one, enjoy the Captivate. I love hacking and modding my phone and personally I believe the Android platform is really meant for people that like hacking their phone. If you want to jump ship because of the GPS aspect before waiting for any solution that comes out from Samsung and I'm sure there will be one, that is your decision and I hope you like your new phone.
This thread will serve no other purpose than flame baiting, which is why I am closing it down.

This has to be the most immature thing I've seen here in a while. Like people have said, it wasnt funny the first time.
Gary, you have a penchant for bragging about being some great dev, professionally and otherwise, so start acting like it. These types of threads dont help, and add nothing to the discourse. It just makes you look worse.

Which part of this is immature? The part where I made sure that the sarcasm was in the first dozen characters of the message body - so that a mouse hover over the subject in the topic list would reveal it?
Or the part where I'm expressing my continued annoyance with the complete lack of realistic response from Samsung on this? (which is the point of the messsage - in case you missed it.)
As for being a great developer - this is actually quite tame compared to some of the things those better than myself (both of them, actually) have to say about samsung, HTC, and others.
I'm merely repeating what samsung's marketing department is already doing: Talking about a great ICS upgrade coming to these devices, but leaving the page blank when asked WHEN it's coming.
As for how it might make me look - I honestly couldn't care less. Because it seems to matter to you, however, I'll reveal that I didn't bother to shave this morning, and I haven't taken a shower since last night. Oh, and my shirt is wrinkled. (That has nothing to do with maturity - it's just laziness.)
Take care

Thanks to Robyr, I was inspired to care how I might look. Therefore, I changed my shirt. Now it's not wrinkled. Thank you, robyr, for improving the world.
(Actually, I changed it because my cat decided to shed all over me. I just thought I'd BS a little. Perhaps it'll make someone feel more significant.)
Yeah gary, stop posting threads that play with the disrespect of samsung for us.

Really... Wow. This is NOTHING compared to the comments I post on google+ whenever one of the samsung people write about their upgrades, new hardware, and support policies.
It should say 'Coming soon!' or 'Error Code 404: Page cannot be found'.
garyd9, At first glance I was kinda pissed about this thread then I saw the sarcastic humor in in. Then I laughed. Thanks for making my day.
I just hope that once ICS drops there is enough source to get CM9 to this device. The current ROM is laggy as hell. A nice ASOP option would be wonderful.

I'd be dishonest if I didn't say that I'm close to giving up hope for this tablet. Samsung is treating it as a red-headed stepchild, and won't even release the full honeycomb sources so that the dev community can pick up the pieces and fix that which they either don't care about or don't have the resources to fix.
However, its not just this one tablet. I'm starting to notice a pattern with samsung... they do make nice devices, but once they have your money, you apparently are nothing more than excess baggage to them. Instead of giving us good support, releasing GPL'd source code, and delivering upgrades that they promised, they gave us an app we can use to complain with. I guess having an app spitting out scripted responses is cheaper than having a human doing it. It's not like you really need a human to say "it's coming soon."
They have resources developing a dozen new devices at a time (given their rate of new product announcement), but what resources are fixing the issues and keeping their existing product lines current? It doesn't seem like much.
Since ICS was released on the GSM galaxy nexus (8 months ago), how many new products has samsung released or announced? A couple tablets, and several new phones. How many existing products (which were promised ICS upgrades) have received that upgrade? Two (and at least the SGSII release was very buggy.)
Keep in mind that samsung has had the ICS sources for quite a bit longer than other companies.. Yet, other companies are upgrading their existing devices long before samsung is. Look, for example, at Asus tablets.
What does that tell me? It tells me that if I buy a samsung device, they'll treat me well for the 14 day return period, and then treat me like dirt. It tells me that a samsung device is a FOOLISH investment.
Samsung, you will NOT be getting my money for my next tablet purchase. I don't care how thin it is or how fast it might be. I'd rather have a supported product that's slightly thicker or has a slightly slower processor.
Take care
Gary
If I get a Samsung device I think it would be a Nexus as google should provide better support.
I've got a Galaxy S Vibrant and Gingerbread hasn't even been released for it. Thanks to developers here on XDA it's running ICS.

Well you have to blame T-mobile on this. They are in control. Vibrant 4G has GB, Captivate on both Rogers and AT&T get GB, i9000 got GB long before that.
What is with ICS for GT-6201(EU 3g)? I Only see 6200 and 6210(EU wifi).
Can anyone help me?

same as with the one for GT P6200..STILL NOTHING!
but check out aorth's CM9 thread
Thanks bro, i have also a HD2 with ICS and the performance is awesome. So my tablet is making me crazy with the 3.2 version.
For the record, I'm anti-Apple. With that said, I'll tell my story.
So I don't remember how we got on the topic, but a friend and I at work were talking about time-zones the other day. I think we were joking about getting rid of it or something and about how dark it would be at certain times of the day, yadda yadda... Just BS'ing basically... Well at some point during this pointless discussion the question came up: "What time is it in Hawaii?"
Well this friend at work has an iPhone, he's always bragging about it and "how much better it is" and we always have our friendly bashing on each other. Well he's like "here, let me ask someone who knows" and asks his iPhone "What time is it in Hawaii"
I'm waiting and listening... Nothing.
He's looking at his precious iPhone and eventually goes "Oh this happens sometimes, it's bringing up search instead, it must not have understood me, let me do it again."
He says again "What time is it in Hawaii"
I'm sitting there and my smile starts forming, because I still hear nothing and I can see the look on his face.
This is of course when I smoothly and calmly chime in and make a snide remark like "That paperweight doesn't understand you. Here, let me try a real device." I tap the widget and ask my S3: "What time is it in Hawaii?" Within literally 2 seconds, it comes back and the Google Lady robot voice goes "It is currently 5:03 PM in Hawaii" And shows the Time on the screen.
He walked away and didn't talk to me for a while.
Just thought I'd share my actual live experience with the whole Siri/Google (Now) comparison.
Google: 1 - iPhone: 0.
:good:
lol
Sorry for my bad englisch
Awesome story.

Saying "what time is it in hawaii" into a windows phone bing app - just tap that microhone - will give you the answer in < 1 second as well. Bing and Google - both smarter than siri (because Apple doesn't have a web index of the world.)
I was picking up a Tablet yesterday at Best Buy. There was a gentleman interested in the iPad who the sales guy was focused on. He had talked up the benefits of it for at least 5-10 minutes, and appeared to decide to put all his efforts into this guy, who for some reason let the salesman know that he was in the medical field and has a 7,000 SqFt House so he wasn't sure if his WiFi covered his whole house. I caught them discussing using Siri. The Salesman then proceded to say:
"Go to Youtube"
Nothing.
"Open Youtube"
Nothing.
"Go to Youtube.com"
Nothing.
"Go to www.youtube.com"
Nothing.
I had to resist the urge to take out my Galaxy SIII and make this command work. It was the highlight of my day, well after getting my tablet.
die apple dieee

I am aware that in the past nexi had some minor issues such as light bleed and parts that weren't so well put together. When we get the nexus 5, what are some aspects of the phone to look at to find that "perfect unit"
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
I guess we won't know until we have the device in our hands.
I wouldn't get the device right away soon as its released, I'd wait at least a month or 2 til any issues are cleared out.
Check if you have a screw tacked on the center screen of the phone, because if you do, well it might be a fake phone! Also, the camera should be shaped something like a circle, not triangle. And it should be placed on the back of the phone, I think. Because if it's on the side, well taking a picture is going to be really hard.
All that said,
No offense but I find really funny that the Nexus 5 forums are filled with people asking questions as if the device has already been released (or already has a confirmed, official released date stated by Google for that matter).
"Will it be available on (insert carrier / shop name) ?"
"Will it have this.. will it have that?"
etc.
And then there are some people who keeps saying "OMG I HATE THE DELAY, WHY THE DELAY GOOGLE, WHY? GJ BEING BLACKBERRY!!!11one!1eleven!1!!" when if people actually stop and think for a second, there isn't even an OFFICIAL announcement date yet. Google can release this phone on February next year and it's not even a delay.. because they haven't announced it YET.
/endrant.
Best reply I've read in the N5 forum untill now

Here is my complaint..
STOP, I repeat STOP sharing articles from click-bait non-techie sites designed to generate traffic by littering the page with "Android" "Galaxy" "Samsung" "Android N" so that when desperate users search for Android N and the Note 5 or any variation of a Samsung device they end up at Morning News USA.
All they are doing is stating "sources" over and over and the only link they do offer is to another site sharing the exact same information like a freshman copying from a wikipedia page.
You may as well consider Gotta Be Mobile a credible source (How to install AOSP on your Note 5, then shows steps for Note 4, Top 5 Note 5 hidden tips, then lists well known Android functionality, Reasons to Hate (Insert newest phone brand here), Reasons to Love (insert newest phone brand here))
I'm not saying they are wrong, after all its pretty easy to predict trends in how OEMs and updates work and ultimately if they are wrong who cares, you already clicked on the article and likely won't remember when jan rolls around and this place is flood with "OMG I hate Samsung" threads..
I'd wait for a more credible source before getting your nickers in a twist.
There's nothing to be credible or substantiated.
The fact is, it is coming. Android "N" is coming, whether it be today or tomorrow. And when it is "officially" announced, the whining will start. People will expect that it will be available for their specific phone the next day, and when it doesn't happen, break out the crying towels. That is all my post is saying. It doesn't matter when, where or whom from.
