Your LCD is fine anyway so if it were me i would take the phone apart and check if the Digitizer flex cable is still connected properly, might of come loose after dropping it. If it is still connected and all seems ok then u will prob need to replace the Digitizer.

hmm, the strip seems to work a few times, then it doesn't respond
Another thing that i have just seen is that when i i go into teh app drawer, it automatically goes to the widget tab, it seems that the screen is constantly being touched where the widget tab is

flex cable might just be loose. take the phone apart and check connections, its not that hard, plenty vids on youtube.

Thanks, I'll give it a go.
I've attached another pic of where the touch seems to be stuck. All I did was tap on the screen.

Want your opinion on this phone black screen issue (see picture)...

My wife's phone got water damaged a few days ago and I took it apart and removed as much water as possible and put it in a bowl of rice to set.
I finally tried turning it on today and it seems to work fine (I think, syncs etc.) except that the screen does not power on. I can see the backlights when I look at it from an angle so it appears to receive power of some kind.
I took it apart further to see if I could see anything and I found that on the display cable there is a black area which looks like it is damaged/burnt on the cable. There was also a little bit of black on the connector but I believe I got most of that cleaned off, but the area on the cable does not seem to be able to be cleaned.
I don't really know anything about electronics or parts of a phone and was wondering if anyone that did could suggest what my next steps would be to restore the phone/screen to operational condition? Part replacement etc.
Thank you.
It sounds like the chip connected to that cable got fried, hence the burnt spots.

Thanks.

[Q] New LCD and Digitizer DOA?? Help please!

So I ordered a new LCD and digitizer from new harbor via amazon.
I took the phone apart, installed the new array, and powered it on, and the screen is great (maybe even brighter than the last one) but it just has zero touch input.
The last screen worked fine, but the LCD was broken. I could have it acknowledge touches so I dont think that the motherboard or anything else is broken, so I wonder what may have went wrong.
Should I take this mofo apart again and see if I have a loose connection? Maybe the ribbon cable is not connected right?
Probably the past is DOA?
Help please! thanks.

Is this somewhere in the service menu? I can boot into its custom menu by holding down volume and power... Not sure if there's more to it.
It's rooted s-off so I get menus to get into recovery or fast boot etc

Scratch that. Just re read your post. "Zero touch input". It's an option in the rom.
There are a few threads/posts where people have replaced the screen, either here or the dhd forum. Check what they had to say. I have absolutely no experience in that. Perhaps it's a cable as you said, but before doing that, I would research on it first. You may end up like me with 9 screws left over after taking apart my ps3 three times (screwing it up even more).

Removing and taking it apart isn't a problem. There are only eight screws.
This isn't fun... To be certain.

Just replaced mine. LCD intact. Touch no longer working. They aren't kidding: this phone isn't fun to work on. It's a *****. I've repaired a half dozen iPhones. This makes that stuff seem rudimentary.

I've had my inspire apart several times. Other than removing the Flash/GPS, and separating the LCD from the frame its quite simple. If you want a pain try a slide phone.

Understand your pain because just recently I had to change my entire screen for my Inspire 4G. I assume that you did everything correctly but here is the video that helped me on youtube:

If you did everything correctly it could just mean that you prob got a faulty part

[Q] One X LCD Screen replacement.

So i am replacing my one x lcd screen.. bought the whole lcd and digitizer since looks like a pain to just do the digitizer.. i got the old one out, put the new one in and power up.. phone vibrates, but i dont get any sounds and no display on my screen.. i have check all my cables too many times, reseating each one, trying everything.. the other thing is once i push the power button to turn on the phone, it vibrates, makes no noises, but if i hold down the power button afterward, the softkeys start flashing several times.. do i just got a bad lcd or is it something more?

Sorry I meant to reply to this yesterday but forgot lol
You need to sync your new LCD.
How do I do that? You may ask.
Plug your old LCD back in, dont put the phone back together, turn the phone on, while it's on, switch LCD's to the new one.
If I'm not mistaken, that should do it. Post back and let me know.

Good Luck. I would assume if you asked on here you would expect to hear an answer you didnt expect or you'd have thought of it
But yes, there are 3 screen types from 3 diff makers. So if you bought a different one, you need to sync it or it will appear to be off. Digitizer will still work.
1) Green Flex (Sharp)
2) Green + Yellow Flex (Sony)
3) Yellow (AU)
try this one http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-x-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-light-guide.html
Do instructions exist or are there any hints for the removal of the existing screen?
Videos on YouTube.
Tip: Keep track of where all the screws go. Have unlimited patience. Stay organized. Minimize distractions while working on it. Heed my screen sync post above.

yeah, i followed the video instructions exactly. and youre right, i posted here to find solutions i never heard of or thought of. as far as syncing with old screen i am SOL on that one.. i sent it back today, and ill try out the new one. post my findings here and i am hoping its just a DOA screen and not the phone itself. thanks for the responses.

We have synced the old LCD, installed the new and the screen looks like white noise on a TV screen.. We have tested this LCD in a functional unit and works fine.. Is this a board issue?

Sounds like it, but you may want to test another screen with that board just to be safe. I haven't tested extensively the results of mix and matching screens with different boards.

Then the GPU is most likely at fault which is built into the board. New board needed. As for the fast response. NP, I live here.

[Q] White screen of death?

Has anyone encountered the following issues with their SHIELD?
Mine was working just fine after updating to 4.3 and rooting with CWM. I performed multiple reboots in this configuration, played games, etc. - everything was fine.
I had a pretty busy weekend so didn't touch the SHIELD at all for a few days. When I got back:
When I opened it up, I saw the screen backlight turn on but nothing displayed on the screen. The SHIELD button was glowing green.
I long-pressed the SHIELD button to turn off the device. When I turn it back on, I get a white screen that is dark around the edges (mostly vignetting around the corners). The brightness of the screen here and degree of vignetting seem to change every time I try and turn on the device.
If I enter fastboot mode via the key combo, the same thing happens - white vignetted screen. The device DOES appear to enumerate as a fastboot device on my PC in this configuration.
At one point I figured it might be due to a low battery, so plugged it into the charger. 30 minutes later, when I opened the lid, I actually came up to a launcher screen with 65% battery.
However, after closing the lid and reopening it again - black screen again, with the "white vignette of death" coming back if I reboot.
Has anyone else seen similar behavior? Searching results in no one complaining about a white screen like this, at least not on this device.

So ive already gotten two shields and they both got the same effect. my guess is the ribbon cable when you open and close the screen, is wearing off? because when i open my shield in a certain way, it works... when i open it at around 100 degrees or open correctly then tilt it forward, the screen tears and slowly shows the white screen. I do admit that i open and close the screen more than i should, but i do it carefully. Ill look over at the ifixit site to see how the cable is connected to the board.
This is what has me worried about buying a shield, the ribbon cable, did you confirmed this was the problem?

I am a tech by trade and bought one of ebay for 40 bucks cuz it would not power up so the guy claimed. After getting it I found the issue was actually the display was not coming on and once it did. Then went out in a few moments. Connect it to HDMI and the unit runs all day of you want to be cabled. ]
So I tore it down and found that the issue is the flex cable. The problem is that the flex cable is part of the LCD and you cannot just replace the cable. Also since the unit is so new there are no sources as of yet to by the LCD from.
So if you have this issue I suggest just holding out till a source of LCD's at hopefully a reasonable price become available.
So it's soldered to the screen and not replacable right?

That is correct.. The flex cable is actually an integral part of the display and even has much of the driver circuitry placed right on it at the LCD. In the business we call it a flex circuit since it is a flexible circuit board and not just a cable.
I pretty much know what you mean.
On my old Archos Gamepad I ripped the flex that connected the left side of the controler to the logic board by accident.
It was a pain in the ass to fix it by soldering seperate wires, I guess it's impossible to do this with the display connection in the Shield.

Might be possible if you used 32 gauge magnet wire. It is enamel coated so it won't short, but it to will break over time.

How are you supposed to flash a factory image when the screen won't let you see what you are doing? When you are in the bootloader screen the HDMI drivers are not loaded yet so not even hooking it to an external monitor will work. You might want to fully read and understand the problem next time before offering advice.:good:
fastboot tells you if you were sucessful or not.
just for relocking the bootloader you have to do some button combinations, you can look up some tutorial videos to see what you have to press.

Even still, it is not a software problem that causes this. I know because if I move my display to a certain angle it will start to work sometimes. A software issue would not cause this. I also have taken my apart since I am a tech and can actually see the traces in the flex cable that have broken..
Any device with a folding display is a bad idea and a failure waiting to happen. Flex cables have a limited number of flex cycles that is even usually published. So the idea of using them in a device that may get heavy use is just dumb.

I agree, they used flex in the Nintendo DS and 3Ds as well, but they don't break that fast.
I find it still better if they have used recular cables like what they use for Laptops.

What you are saying is the EXACT same thing that happened to my SHIELD. I can tell its a hardware problem because when I tilted my screen it would work, and sometimes it wouldn't. Now my SHIELD's display does not even show any signs of picture. HDMI still works, however. Like one of the previous posts said, there is not a screen available for purchase, so my next step is NVIDIA customer support. Maybe if they would sell these screens, I wouldn't even have to have a warranty claim. sigh.
White screen of death?
yes mine too same as
i tried connecting my via HDMI from power cable to large HDMI to plug it works fine on my galaxy tab
thought id be clever try it on nvidia shield never worked sould of bought mini HDMI so now White screen of death

This. I'm having a similar issue. My wife's SHIELD has an unresponsive touch screen. So I tried to flash the factory image (It was never rooted to begin with) and I got the white screen issue when in the bootloader screen. I have to keep restarting it to get the screen to show up as normal when the device boots to the home screen. But the bootloader screen is still blank and white. I was able to watch a video and mimick the steps to flash the factory image but that did not fix the issue. It's definitely a hardware issue. I live in Cincinnati OH, anywhere I can go to have this fixed? I have a portable myself and i know this is going to happen to mine soon.

Touch not working on Nexus 5

Today after lunch, my Nexus 5 started rebooting continuously, After 4 to 6 hours it started working as normal, but the touch of my phone is not working since it started again. Before the mentioned problem, it was working fine.
Please help me in following issue, Should I replace my LCD & Digitizer or this is any other issue???
The constant rebooting could be a power button issue.
Have you tried a factory reset in fastboot mode?
Try sticking piece of transparent tape on the bottom of flex cable (i sticked it on top of lcd and digitizer board. It works now for me. Before i couldt get touch to work

actually i have no lcd or frame on my phone, as i am waiting for a replacement, because it fell on ground and lcd broke but here's what i did to make it work:
just put some transparent tape over the red area, try to cover everything, except screw stocks , and only then place the flex cable.
this worked perfectly before i broke my phone. in 3 day's i'll get a replacement lcd, so i'll be able to make some photos of how it's supposed to be.
If it won't work be really careful while removing the tape, so you wont wrip the lcd conenctor.
picture is in attachements
