[Q] New LCD and Digitizer DOA?? Help please! - HTC Inspire 4G

So I ordered a new LCD and digitizer from new harbor via amazon.
I took the phone apart, installed the new array, and powered it on, and the screen is great (maybe even brighter than the last one) but it just has zero touch input.
The last screen worked fine, but the LCD was broken. I could have it acknowledge touches so I dont think that the motherboard or anything else is broken, so I wonder what may have went wrong.
Should I take this mofo apart again and see if I have a loose connection? Maybe the ribbon cable is not connected right?
Probably the past is DOA?
Help please! thanks.

Is this somewhere in the service menu? I can boot into its custom menu by holding down volume and power... Not sure if there's more to it.
It's rooted s-off so I get menus to get into recovery or fast boot etc

Scratch that. Just re read your post. "Zero touch input". It's an option in the rom.
There are a few threads/posts where people have replaced the screen, either here or the dhd forum. Check what they had to say. I have absolutely no experience in that. Perhaps it's a cable as you said, but before doing that, I would research on it first. You may end up like me with 9 screws left over after taking apart my ps3 three times (screwing it up even more).

Removing and taking it apart isn't a problem. There are only eight screws.
This isn't fun... To be certain.

Did you ever get this taken care of?

Just replaced mine. LCD intact. Touch no longer working. They aren't kidding: this phone isn't fun to work on. It's a *****. I've repaired a half dozen iPhones. This makes that stuff seem rudimentary.

I've had my inspire apart several times. Other than removing the Flash/GPS, and separating the LCD from the frame its quite simple. If you want a pain try a slide phone.

Understand your pain because just recently I had to change my entire screen for my Inspire 4G. I assume that you did everything correctly but here is the video that helped me on youtube:

If you did everything correctly it could just mean that you prob got a faulty part

Sensation screen unresponsive for short time after turning on

I have just replaced my digitizer (was dust under the screen and also a scratch on the digitizer itself, along with the fact I damaged it removing the sticky tape) and the whole screen is almost completely unresponsive. Brand new, but wont work fully until I touch the screen for a bit or give it time to sit after activating the lockscreen.
Once it is through it's "warmup" the screen works flawlessly. It just acts like a slug before that... Also rendering the quick launch lock screen completely worthless. Anyone have any ideas what could be the culprit?

I too replaced a broken screen on my sensation, and i am experiencing the exact same problem as you. Only for me it's only the lower left part of the screen that 'takes time to warm up'.
Did you find any solution?
Not yet. I have another digitizer on order, and fingers are crossed. If not, ill be biting the bullet and waiting for the nexus prime. I have this feeling that it is something other than the digitizer which is extremely sensitive. If people are claiming responsiveness issues after a week or two of use, and while on their sixth or seventh sensation... It sounds like something is slowly deteriorating or building up.

I don't think it's the digitizer either, probably something else ont he phone. However i don't think it is the same problem as everybody else is having, since they experience their screen being unresponsive in general rather than just after turning on.
I am though going to try some of the fixes suggested, i.e. improve the grounding by placing some aluminum foil under the cover and see if it helps.
What does "turning on" mean? Cold boot up? If so, then the CPU on the phone will be busy doing stuff. If you mean waking up from sleep, then that's another problem.
for me it's both cases, both when booting the phone and just when turning the screen back on. What's strange is that it is only the lower part of the screen that's frozen :-S after 10-20 seconds it suddenly springs back to life just as nothing had happened and works flawlessly until i turn the screen of. Then i see the exact same problem again.
I also noticed now that the screen also freezes after calling somebody and when you hang up :-0 I really don't know what is wrong with the phone!
If the phone is unsecured (never sleeps) it will work flawlessly. As soon as I click the top button to secure the screen, or take a phone call, once I try to unlock/ use the screen again... The problem comes back. The left side of the screen is the most responsive, usually moving my finger around for about five or ten seconds will restore full sensitvity. I received a new digitizer in the mail, just waiting on tape. Interesting note; they are different digitizers. The original was HTC/ tmobile brand while the replacement is simply HTC. The ribbon cable also reads different. My original: pyd v1.0, sw-10 94v-0, e3082521117. The new one reads: pyd v1.0, e21954-1, ruICACichia, 94v-0 1112. The current digitizer replacement is also a standard HTC label... I wonder if it is because it isn't a specific model replacement.

Alright so i tried doing all the fixes related to the grounding issue, and i didn't affect anything at all.
I'm going back to the repair shop today (have a three months warranty) to tell them to have a look at it again and see if they can fix the issue. Maybe they have a spare digitizer they could try instead of my current one. I will let you know if anything helps!
Sounds good. I am betting its either an incorrect digitizer for the model of phone (us/eu/whatever) improper mounting or damage, or just planetary alignment or something equally stupid. I'm really hoping someone figures out this problem... It is frustrating to spend more time figuring out how to fix a phone than you actually do using it.

True, had i known from the start i would probably just have bought a new phone, rather than spend on the money on getting the screen replaced :-S
Well, I replaced the digitizer for a second time. Seems to be the same thing so far. Different initial responsiveness spot (looks like the right side might be more sensitive now) but I didn't have high hopes. I wonder what it could be...
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
So i went back to the repair shop and got it fixed. I guess they weren't in the mood for scientific inquiry, because they simply disassembled the phone and installed a new digitizer. After that everything is working fine, altough i will never know if it was the digitizer itself or some faulty wiring somewhere :-S
Worked for me
I have had exactly the same problem you all have experienced. The first digitizer I ordered from a company on e-bay gave me huge problems at the unlock screen. Bought a new one from skalshop and it works perfectly. I even tried it without tape to make sure it worked before I glued the thing together and it worked perfect.

[Q] Touchscreen wonky, not sure what it could be.

EDIT: Alright, I did the reset completely now and it seems to be working, still kinda reluctant to work in portrait mode. Suggestions/comments/help highly appreciated.
Hi, I've lurked this site for years but I only joined just to ask this question.
Now, I currently have this phone, the Mytouch 4G Slide for T-Mobile, for about 8 or 9 months now. Everything is fine. Except when I dropped it.
I dropped it and now the touchscreen sometimes doesn't work, no matter if it's in portrait or landscape. The keyboard still works and the face buttons work but the touchscreen is iffy. I thought it might be the digitizer but after doing some research on Google, if it were that, it would NEVER work from what I understood.
So, from then I thought it had to be a software issue, which is understandable as I did install a bunch of apps within the month, one of those including a compass. I removed and saved everything, then did a master reset/clean wipe and restarted my phone anew. I turned it on, and the screen came on. I went to slide the ring, and it didn't slide. Everything else works, touchscreen is still being pissy.
I notice when I let it sit for a bit, with it off and with the battery out, and turn it back on after about 5 to 10 minutes, it works okay. Either the screen will work in both portrait or landscape, OR only portrait or landscape. And sometimes, rarely, neither will work.
Is it possible for the digitizer to be -slightly- damaged? Or is it one of those things where if it's broken, it's noticeably broken? I'm not sure how to go about this as I've done everything I could think of. Some assistance would really be nice.
Digitizers can be partialy working, I have ran into this many times. To me it sounds like a bad digitizer or flex cable, but more than likely the digitizer

So, should I open it up and see what's going on or just replace it completely? I already know how to, I just have to go and buy the kit.
I have torn open many phones in my day, and this is without a doubt the most pain in the ass! If it won't cost you much to have someone else do it, say less than 50, it may be worth it. But it will only be 20 if you buy a new digitizer from ebay and do it yourself. Its easy to tear apart untill you get to the "screen assembly" for lack of better words.
Here there is soooo much sticky it can be hard to take apart without cracking lcd. So if you do this, use ample heat for like five min or more to seperate the chasis from the lcd back.
If your curious on my expeience I posted about it here

[Q] Screen drop outs and now always black, why?

Hi guys,
my DS did some strange stuff lately. It began with the screen staying black when I woke it up (hardware buttons did turn on and touchscreen also worked). I thought it was a software issue, because after a few on and offs the screen usually worked again. Also, this never happened when the phone was charging.
But a few days ago the screen never turned back on again, even when charging. I got a new battery but still no change. It won't even turn on when booting or when going to fastboot/ hboot.
Does anyone have an idea what is broken? I think my best guess is to have a look at these other screen replacement threads, but I wanted to ask first because the screen seemed to have gradually become broken, which confuses me. I didn't think something like that was even possible. Also, I can't return it since I bought it used and in Germany (DS is USA exclusive).
Thanks for help
Most certainly hardware as it is black when in bootloader and ROM. Best guess is the LCD but could also be the main flex the likelyhood of any thin else is fairly small.
Do read up on the screen replacement threads as this phone is one pain in the ass, you also need to be aware of what LCD to buy as there were different ones and they are not compatible.

Thanks for the tips. Screen might be still ok since it went out gradually, could be a defective contact since it also went on and off randomly. But I guess there is no way to only replace this contact, too complicated to find out... I will see.
Yeah, I had a look at these threads already, thank you
I had a program that I moved to the sd card that would cause the screen not to come on and would have to do a battery pull. When I moved the app back to the phone, the problem stopped.
(Walgreens app)
It has happened again since, so it may be another app I have to track down. Or I may be looking at faulty screen trouble too.
Sent from my MyTouch 4G Slide using Tapatalk 2
even if an app on sd were the cause of this it certainly couldnt make the screen blackout while in recovery and bootloader mode. to the best of my knowledge it has to be a hardware fault if screen wont turn on in bootloader... but well ive been proven wrong in the past
Well since I had problems with the screen turning off before when it did work in recovery, there might be a connection to daswerk's case. However I kept all my apps on the internal SSD and do remember checking it. Also, my screen turned back on sooner or later or when I played around with the keyboard.
However later it was off even in recovery mode. I did disassemble my DS lately (and broke my screen like seemingly everyone else hehe) and am now waiting for my new LCD screen to arrive in Germany from the states haha. Shipping costs were higher than LCD costs, d'oh! Thanks again demkantor, you've been helping me indirectly with your posts in the other threads as well
So guys, screen arrived, reassembled my phone, switched it on aaand... black screen.
Graphic chip or motherboard may be broken. I'm thinking about a loose connection because screen turned off once in a while before it never got back on. I found a user by coincidence here on xda who reported the same problem.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Don't want to forsake my dearly loved DS :'(
Next most likely would be main flex cable

Are there other possibilities as well? I'm thinking about getting a whole replacement set so I can try everything shipping costs are high since I live in germany hmmf
btw, digitizer/ touchscreen doesn't seem to work either, is this another sign that main flex cable is the prolem?
There are always more possiblities I was just letting you know what I would replace next as the most likley cause.
Having multiple phones to exchange parts is a good idea and really about the only way to test different components
And yes have no digitizer working can be a sign of a bad flex as well

Sorry I meant to reply to this yesterday but forgot lol
You need to sync your new LCD.
How do I do that? You may ask.
Plug your old LCD back in, dont put the phone back together, turn the phone on, while it's on, switch LCD's to the new one.
If I'm not mistaken, that should do it. Post back and let me know.

Good Luck. I would assume if you asked on here you would expect to hear an answer you didnt expect or you'd have thought of it
But yes, there are 3 screen types from 3 diff makers. So if you bought a different one, you need to sync it or it will appear to be off. Digitizer will still work.
1) Green Flex (Sharp)
2) Green + Yellow Flex (Sony)
3) Yellow (AU)
try this one http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-x-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-light-guide.html
Do instructions exist or are there any hints for the removal of the existing screen?
Videos on YouTube.
Tip: Keep track of where all the screws go. Have unlimited patience. Stay organized. Minimize distractions while working on it. Heed my screen sync post above.

yeah, i followed the video instructions exactly. and youre right, i posted here to find solutions i never heard of or thought of. as far as syncing with old screen i am SOL on that one.. i sent it back today, and ill try out the new one. post my findings here and i am hoping its just a DOA screen and not the phone itself. thanks for the responses.

Sounds like it, but you may want to test another screen with that board just to be safe. I haven't tested extensively the results of mix and matching screens with different boards.

Then the GPU is most likely at fault which is built into the board. New board needed. As for the fast response. NP, I live here.

[Q] HTC One X Digitizer/LCD Repair Problems

I run a cell phone repair company and we do quite a few repairs but this in particular HTC One X has us all stumped here. We do realize that there are 3 different versions of the dig/lcd and we have the correct part. But has anyone had problems with trying to replace the HTC One X dig/lcd assembly. It seems that after I put the new part on the lcd is black but the phone is still on. I even went back and put the old screen back on and it is still black. Prior to the repair the lcd worked fine. But just the digitizer was cracked. I have even went as far as changing the motherboard on the phone to a new one and am still having the same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Have you checked the ribbon length to make sure you do not have a break?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
It would seem to me as though it's just as simple as one of the connectors is not plugged in or just not plugged in properly, which is easy to do since one of them is on the underside of the board which I believe is the one for the screen itself.

Exactly. Seems like the only probable answer is that something was broken during teardown - either a cable or connector. Given the size of everything in there, it doesn't take much....
Did you ever find a solution to this?
I'm kind of in the same boat at the moment, BUT there's a silverish lining
In the midst of replacing a screen on my One X. Phone is obviously "on" (despite being in pieces on my desk), but n either the new or old screens will come on when I push the power button.
For a lark, I plugged the phone in, and did an 'adb reboot'
My splash screen comes up on the new screen just fine, as does the Viper Logo and my home screen and everything.... but once it shuts off the power button will NOT re-wake it up. At first I thought "I must have broken the power button" but I also forced a notification to it - which also typically wakes up the screen - and also saw nothing.
EDIT : Cancel that; for some reason the power button didn't work until I had the case back on. Grounding maybe? Either way, working fine now.
Some Ebay product page for a screen replacement said you should first power on the device with the old screen, then take the old screen out while the phone is running and put the new one in.
Maybe you should trie that. I'm not a hardware expert, so do some research before trying this and don't blame me if it doesnt work
That will only work if the screens not working. Op. It's difficult to narrow the issue in your situation. If the flex cables don't work, it's a short which would require much more advanced knowledge to fix.
