I have just replaced my digitizer (was dust under the screen and also a scratch on the digitizer itself, along with the fact I damaged it removing the sticky tape) and the whole screen is almost completely unresponsive. Brand new, but wont work fully until I touch the screen for a bit or give it time to sit after activating the lockscreen.
Once it is through it's "warmup" the screen works flawlessly. It just acts like a slug before that... Also rendering the quick launch lock screen completely worthless. Anyone have any ideas what could be the culprit?

I too replaced a broken screen on my sensation, and i am experiencing the exact same problem as you. Only for me it's only the lower left part of the screen that 'takes time to warm up'.
Did you find any solution?
Not yet. I have another digitizer on order, and fingers are crossed. If not, ill be biting the bullet and waiting for the nexus prime. I have this feeling that it is something other than the digitizer which is extremely sensitive. If people are claiming responsiveness issues after a week or two of use, and while on their sixth or seventh sensation... It sounds like something is slowly deteriorating or building up.

I don't think it's the digitizer either, probably something else ont he phone. However i don't think it is the same problem as everybody else is having, since they experience their screen being unresponsive in general rather than just after turning on.
I am though going to try some of the fixes suggested, i.e. improve the grounding by placing some aluminum foil under the cover and see if it helps.
What does "turning on" mean? Cold boot up? If so, then the CPU on the phone will be busy doing stuff. If you mean waking up from sleep, then that's another problem.
for me it's both cases, both when booting the phone and just when turning the screen back on. What's strange is that it is only the lower part of the screen that's frozen :-S after 10-20 seconds it suddenly springs back to life just as nothing had happened and works flawlessly until i turn the screen of. Then i see the exact same problem again.
I also noticed now that the screen also freezes after calling somebody and when you hang up :-0 I really don't know what is wrong with the phone!
If the phone is unsecured (never sleeps) it will work flawlessly. As soon as I click the top button to secure the screen, or take a phone call, once I try to unlock/ use the screen again... The problem comes back. The left side of the screen is the most responsive, usually moving my finger around for about five or ten seconds will restore full sensitvity. I received a new digitizer in the mail, just waiting on tape. Interesting note; they are different digitizers. The original was HTC/ tmobile brand while the replacement is simply HTC. The ribbon cable also reads different. My original: pyd v1.0, sw-10 94v-0, e3082521117. The new one reads: pyd v1.0, e21954-1, ruICACichia, 94v-0 1112. The current digitizer replacement is also a standard HTC label... I wonder if it is because it isn't a specific model replacement.

Alright so i tried doing all the fixes related to the grounding issue, and i didn't affect anything at all.
I'm going back to the repair shop today (have a three months warranty) to tell them to have a look at it again and see if they can fix the issue. Maybe they have a spare digitizer they could try instead of my current one. I will let you know if anything helps!
Sounds good. I am betting its either an incorrect digitizer for the model of phone (us/eu/whatever) improper mounting or damage, or just planetary alignment or something equally stupid. I'm really hoping someone figures out this problem... It is frustrating to spend more time figuring out how to fix a phone than you actually do using it.

True, had i known from the start i would probably just have bought a new phone, rather than spend on the money on getting the screen replaced :-S
Well, I replaced the digitizer for a second time. Seems to be the same thing so far. Different initial responsiveness spot (looks like the right side might be more sensitive now) but I didn't have high hopes. I wonder what it could be...

So i went back to the repair shop and got it fixed. I guess they weren't in the mood for scientific inquiry, because they simply disassembled the phone and installed a new digitizer. After that everything is working fine, altough i will never know if it was the digitizer itself or some faulty wiring somewhere :-S
Worked for me
I have had exactly the same problem you all have experienced. The first digitizer I ordered from a company on e-bay gave me huge problems at the unlock screen. Bought a new one from skalshop and it works perfectly. I even tried it without tape to make sure it worked before I glued the thing together and it worked perfect.

EDIT: Alright, I did the reset completely now and it seems to be working, still kinda reluctant to work in portrait mode. Suggestions/comments/help highly appreciated.
Hi, I've lurked this site for years but I only joined just to ask this question.
Now, I currently have this phone, the Mytouch 4G Slide for T-Mobile, for about 8 or 9 months now. Everything is fine. Except when I dropped it.
I dropped it and now the touchscreen sometimes doesn't work, no matter if it's in portrait or landscape. The keyboard still works and the face buttons work but the touchscreen is iffy. I thought it might be the digitizer but after doing some research on Google, if it were that, it would NEVER work from what I understood.
So, from then I thought it had to be a software issue, which is understandable as I did install a bunch of apps within the month, one of those including a compass. I removed and saved everything, then did a master reset/clean wipe and restarted my phone anew. I turned it on, and the screen came on. I went to slide the ring, and it didn't slide. Everything else works, touchscreen is still being pissy.
I notice when I let it sit for a bit, with it off and with the battery out, and turn it back on after about 5 to 10 minutes, it works okay. Either the screen will work in both portrait or landscape, OR only portrait or landscape. And sometimes, rarely, neither will work.
Is it possible for the digitizer to be -slightly- damaged? Or is it one of those things where if it's broken, it's noticeably broken? I'm not sure how to go about this as I've done everything I could think of. Some assistance would really be nice.
Digitizers can be partialy working, I have ran into this many times. To me it sounds like a bad digitizer or flex cable, but more than likely the digitizer

So, should I open it up and see what's going on or just replace it completely? I already know how to, I just have to go and buy the kit.
I have torn open many phones in my day, and this is without a doubt the most pain in the ass! If it won't cost you much to have someone else do it, say less than 50, it may be worth it. But it will only be 20 if you buy a new digitizer from ebay and do it yourself. Its easy to tear apart untill you get to the "screen assembly" for lack of better words.
Here there is soooo much sticky it can be hard to take apart without cracking lcd. So if you do this, use ample heat for like five min or more to seperate the chasis from the lcd back.
If your curious on my expeience I posted about it here

Hi guys,
my DS did some strange stuff lately. It began with the screen staying black when I woke it up (hardware buttons did turn on and touchscreen also worked). I thought it was a software issue, because after a few on and offs the screen usually worked again. Also, this never happened when the phone was charging.
But a few days ago the screen never turned back on again, even when charging. I got a new battery but still no change. It won't even turn on when booting or when going to fastboot/ hboot.
Does anyone have an idea what is broken? I think my best guess is to have a look at these other screen replacement threads, but I wanted to ask first because the screen seemed to have gradually become broken, which confuses me. I didn't think something like that was even possible. Also, I can't return it since I bought it used and in Germany (DS is USA exclusive).
Thanks for help
Most certainly hardware as it is black when in bootloader and ROM. Best guess is the LCD but could also be the main flex the likelyhood of any thin else is fairly small.
Do read up on the screen replacement threads as this phone is one pain in the ass, you also need to be aware of what LCD to buy as there were different ones and they are not compatible.

Thanks for the tips. Screen might be still ok since it went out gradually, could be a defective contact since it also went on and off randomly. But I guess there is no way to only replace this contact, too complicated to find out... I will see.
Yeah, I had a look at these threads already, thank you
I had a program that I moved to the sd card that would cause the screen not to come on and would have to do a battery pull. When I moved the app back to the phone, the problem stopped.
(Walgreens app)
It has happened again since, so it may be another app I have to track down. Or I may be looking at faulty screen trouble too.
Sent from my MyTouch 4G Slide using Tapatalk 2
even if an app on sd were the cause of this it certainly couldnt make the screen blackout while in recovery and bootloader mode. to the best of my knowledge it has to be a hardware fault if screen wont turn on in bootloader... but well ive been proven wrong in the past
Well since I had problems with the screen turning off before when it did work in recovery, there might be a connection to daswerk's case. However I kept all my apps on the internal SSD and do remember checking it. Also, my screen turned back on sooner or later or when I played around with the keyboard.
However later it was off even in recovery mode. I did disassemble my DS lately (and broke my screen like seemingly everyone else hehe) and am now waiting for my new LCD screen to arrive in Germany from the states haha. Shipping costs were higher than LCD costs, d'oh! Thanks again demkantor, you've been helping me indirectly with your posts in the other threads as well
So guys, screen arrived, reassembled my phone, switched it on aaand... black screen.
Graphic chip or motherboard may be broken. I'm thinking about a loose connection because screen turned off once in a while before it never got back on. I found a user by coincidence here on xda who reported the same problem.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Don't want to forsake my dearly loved DS :'(
Next most likely would be main flex cable

Are there other possibilities as well? I'm thinking about getting a whole replacement set so I can try everything shipping costs are high since I live in germany hmmf
btw, digitizer/ touchscreen doesn't seem to work either, is this another sign that main flex cable is the prolem?
There are always more possiblities I was just letting you know what I would replace next as the most likley cause.
Having multiple phones to exchange parts is a good idea and really about the only way to test different components
And yes have no digitizer working can be a sign of a bad flex as well

Not sure what to do. Happened about 2 weeks ago and getting progressively worse. Sometimes screen unresponsive, sometimes ok, and other times registers a touch in a completely wrong place. Is my digitizer going out? Will flashing different rom or kernel work? Currently have an xe s-off with elegencia rom

you can try different roms or kernels and see how it goes
also check this it out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239238
For me the cause of this was certain apps running in the background, Any.do and the new Skype update with it's new UI, seems there's a problem with custom roms and some apps UI, just like watsapp sometimes causes typing issues on custom roms, stopping or uninstalling solved my problems.
Haven't reported it with to CM team tho, when I get to ten post count.
thanks for the ideas guys, but I think that my digitizer is shot. turned on touch overlay and pointer location. seems like the screen is warped. if I put moderate pressure in the middle of the screen, it will register 5-8 differet touch points across the center section of the screen. sometimes if you drag your finger, it will skip or not register certain areas(mainly the center of the screen) I'll try get a screen shot later.
Take the back cover off your phone. Along one edge of your phone there will be a little metal square with a nipple. Add small folded tin foil to the nipple loosely then put the cover back on. Your screen can now ground probably. This problem is more noticeable when charging.

Hi i bought a sensation and it had the wifi problem and digitizer problem (going crazy) and i searched for 2 days and got nothing, i also read that putting tinfoil over the silver nipple thing would fix it but if anything it made it worse. tried bout 7 different roms, everything was still the same but now i have perfect wifi and digitizer, fixed it last night and not 1 problem so far. So.. what i did was got an old digital camera card, cut off 4 of those metal pins (look at pic) put 2 next to each other using strong double sided tape and stuck them to both connector pins on the back battery cover, now i got perfect wifi. The connectors on the battery cover r just conductive paint and wears through to the plastic over time (i also tried condutive paint but didnt work). And the digitizer i cut a piece of plastic/rubber off an old usb cable (see pic) round the wire and fitted it over the silver nipple ground pin thing and now my digitizer works perfect, not one problem so far. Give it a try, assuming ur digitizer isnt actually broke.
My problems also started reoccurring and it doesn't seem to be software related, cause even when it's completely stock people reported freezing and lock ups on this and other HTC models, I hate this phone and will never purchase another HTC product.

I recently took mine apart to clean dust from under screen and refit the old digitiser. It was unresponsive and some parts of the screen didnt work at all so I flashed a calibration file which improved it but still working 100%. Took apart the phone several times to check connections, reinstalled several roms, calibrated screen and cleaned contact on the back cover etc...nothing worked.
I use the trace keyboard a lot but couldnt with this problem. I was sure I had damaged the digitiser and was losing hope until I upgraded to firmware 3.33.401.106, hboot 1.29.0000 and radio 11.76C.3504.00P_11.29A.3504.18_M. hboot from 1.27.1000 and screen is now working as normal.
I ran CM 10.1 JB and Viper 1.63 before removing the digitiser and after refitting it flashed CM JB, Inspiration, ARHD and currently on viper 3.1.
I have seen a high number of posts recently about screen responsiveness so could it be an issue with 1.27.1000 on the latest roms?
I cant understand how this happened straight after removing the digitiser and was fixed by flashing newer firmware.

Thanks, flashed it last night and seems ok so far, will give it another day of two
Sadly my problems are still persistent, tired every possible solution including the grounding pin fix from another post which spans over 50 pages long, also trolled the Internet only to find this is not an isolated problem, other people who own the HTC sensation have been having the same telltale issues and quite frankly I've come to the conclusion that this is just another half broken HTC device HTC decided to release to cut corners on just to save on overall production cost.

Hello.
My wife's T-Mo Sensation 4G started having screen troubles a couple of weeks ago. The screen basically wouldn't turn on, and if you unseated the battery and stuck it back in, you'd see backlight bleed, particularly in the lower left corner, before even turning it on. After some fiddling, the screen sort of came back, first with some vertical banding, and then more normally. Sometimes it looks blotchy, and it almost always flickers, even if auto-brightness is off and set to high. It varies between looking washed out and overly-contrasty. At least once it went black looking like a blob was migrating across the screen.
It went out again last night and is sort of back now, but with the same set of problems. I disassembled and re-seated the LCD cable on the motherboard, but still the same.
Does this sound like an LCD/backlight problem, or something else? If it is likely the LCD, I'd buy a preassembled digitizer/LCD and replace it. If it sounds like something in the system, I'd probably just get her a new phone.
Also, if it is the LCD, anyone recommend a good reseller? RepairsUniverse? Another? Thanks
ddi you try this method?

Fiddled with that thing once, but no, not really. I'll see if I can't rule that out or in. Thanks.
Odd, though, that I never have that problem with my Amaze, even with the back off completely.

Also, note that I didn't say anything about screen unresponsiveness. All problems seem to be with the actual display (LCD) and/or backlight, not the digitizer.
I'll also try the discharge process, though.
EDIT: I'm seeing now that there's a distinct, permanent blotch extending most of the way across the middle of the screen and I still see faint vertical banding, too. This is after adjusting the grounding contact.
I guess I'm leaning toward it's a bad LCD, but still looking for feedback before I plop down the money and try that fix.
Any suggestions for LCD/digitizer supplier?

Alright so here's the deal. I had an incident with some liquid. The phone worked for months after that. Then weird things began to happen. First the mircophone went out. Then, after I tried to clean the mic, the screen went blank and I couldn't get anything to show up. After doing some looking around, I found out that the daughterboard at the bottom routes the screen and has the mic on it. SO, I replaced the daughterboard. And now I can get the screen to come on, well, sometimes. And the digitizer is just as touch and go. Occasionally it decides to work, and most of the time it doesn't. So I guess what all this comes down to is, does this sound like a screen & digitizer issue, or is the motherboard (and thus the whole phone) shot?
ANY help is GREATLY appreciated!
Your phone is fried
As soon as I hear phone problem and water in the same post, my advice is usually the same. Move on. ?
Unfortunately with water, it can get time consuming and costly.... You fix one thing, only to find something else doesn't work.... And so on and so on. Water is evil, and in most cases, lethal.
You've seen replacing one part has only partly helped. To me, if a phone gets wet and serious issues follow. Save your time and money for a replacement.
Sorry for the bleak outlook... But fixing water damage is a rough process usually.
Good luck in whatever direction you go! ?
Thanks for the input. I've unfortunately already purchased a G2 to replace it. I've tried, but it's not worth the time and money. Loved my Nexus 5 and I'm sad to see it go.
