Hello everyone!
So I played Asphalt 8 on S4 and it was amazing, so I decided to buy one for myself for my HTC Butterfly. Although I set my graphics on high, it still is not as fancy as on S4, I mean ground and car reflections & etc.
Is there any way I can enable these visuals on my phone? Or at least could anyone please send me a folder located in root/data/data/com.gameloft.android.blabla... there must be some kind of file that would change it.
It would be a great help!
Thanks in advance!
The S4 u played it on is running 4.3 version of android? ...because those extra details u saw may come from opengl 3.0 support ...

Possibly a 4.3 thing. I played it first on 4.3 and then on 4.2.2 and I was able to notice very tiny details that were missing. Welp, something to look forward to in 4.3

I have i9500 4.2.2 stock. Open gl 2 and my game looks just like the one shown in official gameplay trailer. Can you confirm any graphical difference bw opengl 2 vs 3 on asphalt? Thanks.

Copied from android central:
"Asphalt 8 has been optimized to include OpenGL ES 3.0. features, such as graphic and image quality enhancements on the New Nexus 7"
Open GL is only available in 4.3 and even then the i9500 doesn't FULLY support opengl 3.0 (Not all features)
However, i am still waiting for any feedback from someone on this matter. Are the graphics really enhanced on 4.3 if yes then what more effects are added ?

So far, only one new feature - new texture compression ETC2 is used from OpenGL 3.0 in Asphalt 8.
You may notice slightly better details on Android 4.3 on Nexus 7 - that's all.
Nothing extraordinary.
Actually, if you copy textures from iOS version of this game then you will notice much more improvements than from OGL3.0
I thought there was dirt on your car in gles 3.0 and not in 2.1
Me Gusta!
Thank you all for responce.
Unfortunately I can not tell if it's on 4.2 or 4.3, thing is, the difference is quite visible, even the blur effect is better on that version. But I really know, is that I have no ground reflections. Is there any way to flash OpenGL 3?

This is true. And I haven't really seen an ios version to compare. Will do when I get home. But android is just as capable as ios. Why skimp on somethings. It should look just as good. Anyways, between 4.2.2 and 4.3 you'll find a difference and no, there is no way to flash 3.0

No way it can be flash or nodded as far as I know. You'll have to wait for the touchwiz version of 4.3. Shouldn't be that long I believe. Htc one already has a sense 5 4.3 leak. I had too many issues with the GPe so I came back to touchwiz

Hey guys,
I havent flashed Jelly Bean yet but I think i know why for example Temple Run 2 lags.
The GPU has not enough RAM allocated.

At JB it has only around 100.

200MB of RAM allocated to the GPU? That's impossible, on GB we had 555MB of usable RAM, 213MB was hardware reserved, some of this was allocated to the camera, some for HD 720p playback and a tiny amount for the GPU itself, the specific amount to be allocated is kernel dependent. You can't do anything about that. The change to kernel 3.0 brought several changes, the whole Mali libs were reworked and newer modules were used, that should bring better performance in theory.
The reason behind the lags in Temple Run 2 may be either hardware acceleration (which may not be working as it should) or a GPU lib issue. Both shall be fixed in the final firmware. You can't just expect things to work right away in such an experimental firmware which wasn't even meant to be used on a daily basis.

yes, basically it is not for end user, this is just experimental rom so we can find what's inside the rom (feature etc) and find some bug if exist.

Ever thought that this "leak" brings Samsung free testing? In a relatively short amount of time people found some bugs with battery drain and BT issues.
It could be a premeditated release to help developers build a bug free firmware sooner.
Next step would be to make the source code public and then they would get help with code generation as well
Just a theory, don't want to start any flames

To any of you who might have concerns, there is no doubt about it -- performance is lower on JB at this point, but hell...
IT'S NOT GPU RELATED.
The issues you've been reporting directly address video decoding issue and/or lower CPU performance in some scenarios.
GPU does not take care of video encoding/decoding. My guess is there is still no full HW accelerated decoding available.
On a side note, vRAM is irrelevant to GPU performance as well. vRAM keeps pre-rendered frames and texture data. How does that quantity make GPU faster or slower? If there was not enough vRAM to handle all the texture data and pre-rendered frames - you'd see artifacts on the screen, yet you don't.

If you run custom ROMs like CyanogenMod or flash a custom kernel such as KK, you realise that most graphic issues are resolved. The problem lies mostly with the outdated/poor implementation of PowerVR drivers in Samsung's stock ROM. Custom ROMs & kernels are using newer drivers.

There's some patching tool for Modern Combat 4 that can tweak the graphics if I recall. I think you can check in the HTC One X forum.
But that's beside the point, the main point being that the PowerVR SGX540 GPU is starting to feel a little underpowered as it shows its age. Even if you could force the games to run on high or max settings, performance would take a big hit, in some cases, the game slows to an unplayable pace.
The reason why there are patches, tools & mods to manually tweak graphics settings is because of the fragmented nature of Android, some devices have powerful hardware but have not been properly supported by the game developer yet.
---------- Post added at 04:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:41 PM ----------
By the way, I have checked out the screenshots in this thread, they seem fine?
I would recommend the threadstarter to check out these games on other PowerVR SGX540 devices for a better comparison. If these games look better on other PowerVR SGX540 devices, then it would warrant further investigation.
As I mentioned already, the stock Samsung firmware for P31xx uses older PowerVR drivers according to various modders. By switching to custom ROMs or kernels that implement newer PowerVR drivers, users have reported better graphic performance/compatibility in games.
Well i had bad graphics with brotherhood of violence
I had installed brotherhood of violence game and was surprised to see the difference in graphics between s2 and tab2 for the same game. Graphics were soo terrible that i had tp uninstall the game from my tab and had to play on s2....
Well one possibility to have better graphics is to overclock the gpu(more computations per second) and then use patches for higher settings in games... as previously mentioned in the thread some developers ( mainly gameloff) seriously cap the performance...
u can use any custom kernel like kk's blackhawk/next kernel or dhollem kernel to overclock the GPU... see their respective threads for more info..
Our tabs GPU is clocked at 304mHz by default in stick and cm... these kernels allow overclocking 384mHz and 512mHz..
so the problem of frame rate drops when using patches can be solved by overclocking the GPU...
But we need to remember that Powervr540 is at least 4 yr old technology( i first saw it in galaxy s)... so we need to cut it some slack...
Cheers
In another thread, we found out that you simply need to add the SamsungCamera2.apk from the i9500 to the system/app directory (needs root) of your i9505, and the option to record in 720p is there, and it seems to be working
I thought this might be useful to many people who probably won't notice the question in the Q&A sub forum.

Yeah, though they didn't even mention the difference, and they even tried to convince people that the i9505 was as good as the i9500 because of the limited availability of the Exynos CPU so they wouldn't feel they got an inferior version, so this goes the wrong way.
I've seen no reviews mentionning that either, only users on xda.
Also, lazyness seems weird too, because instead of using the same version of the camera software on both variants, they went out of their way to implement a difference, which means 2 versions of the software to maintain and update.
So I'm wondering if it was because of the performance? Is the FPS the same on the i9505 when using 720p? or does it become more choppy?

Ok, that explains it then
So while this "mod" allows us to record slow motion in 720p... it does so at the expense of fps?
Doesn't really seem to be that useful then
Isn't it possible to force the camera to record at the same 120/60 fps ? :/
Mayb its due to limitations of emor-r sensor on i9505 over exmor-rs on i9500

Indeed, this is a lot more choppy than on the i9500.. I guess that's why they downgraded the i9505's camera software..

not a sensor limitation.

Yeah, my guess is Chip optimization. The i9500 camera software is not optimized for the i9505 chipset. I'm referring to the CPU chipset and not the sensor module.
Hi. I wanted to know whether the Mali Gpu has enough power to render HD Games on a 12.2 inch screen without lack of frames or not! Has anybody with the Exynos version installed HD Games(Like Modern Combat 4, Asphalt 8,...) to see whether it's smooth or it has lack of frames?? Thanks.

Gaming perfotmance should be nigh identical to then note 2014 which if you have read the forums you know chews through all the high end games out. With exception of a few that arent optimized yet. Its a bigger screen but in the end its pushing the same number of pixels so no difference. Actually might be better because of 4.4. Emulators also work very nicely and are my preference for gaming.

I know that the number of pixels are equivalent but the pixels in note pro are bigger!

Unless resoultion changes there should be no difference, just as one should see no difference in frame rate when changing the size of monitor plugged into a PC as long as the monitors have the same resolution. The larger monitors simply have larger pixel sizes which in effect means they're the one doing the scaling for you, not the gpu. With similar hardware specs for both notes other than the display panel size one should expect the performance to be similar as well. Any variations in performance would likely be attributed to software improvements on the newer tablet.

That doesnt make any difference though. If the pixels are bigger (they shouldn't be) the gpu still sends the same number of signals and processess the same signals. It could be a 20 inch screen with the same overal pixel count and get the same performance. But anyways yes it rocks at gaming

Hi all!
I find way to play Half-life 2 on non-tegra devices. I get it run on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (Snapdragon 800 version) using app GLTools. Just make sure you install on start GLTools second options (install texture decoders on first gltools install), then download game and set settings for HL2 in GLTools like these:
activate function Optimize GLSL shaders
Use fake gpu info
Template: tegra 4
Simple mapbuffer emulation
Software VBO emulation
Use packed stencil buffer
With these settings and connected moga controller i was able to run game and play it. Its playable but sometimes its get laggy on in bigger arenas. I also get crash bug on the end of first part - after the first elevator part the game hang on a loading screen. Its always crash but it has solution - just start HL2 again, start new game and chose second part, it will be already avaliable and you can continue in playing Enjoy!! For now i have something about 1hour of playing and still no problem. Only thing is sometimes weird textures, but this is done by emulating T4.
And now question on you all - i wonder if its possible to hack google play, that i can see and buy portal too?? I want to try it. I thing Portal will be playable too with these settings. :good:
I couldn't find the software VBO emulation and use packed stencil buffer options
EDIT: Just updated GLTools and got it to work!
Only problem is is when I lock my phone while playing I have to restart the phone cause it sort of freezes

Cant get it to work on the Samsung s3 mini, it just crashes at the source logo. I saw a similar thread to this on 4pda and portal worked with these settings.
Game boots, but textures are black. Any fix for that?

UPDATE: Please check if you really selected the right plugin.
Now only the models Textures appears, all other Textures are black. Im lucky i know every single map from both games. So I can navigate with ease even with those. I will play around with settings and see what I can do.
Device tested: Nexus 4 PA 4.2 Beta, Snapdragon 600 - Good FPS, texture bugs.
Fixed everything, i have enabled the other options (sRGB emulation and stuff) and now it works.
Configs for N4
Same as above but enable:
Half-float texture Jack
FBO Attachment (i think thats its name)
sRGB emulation

Sad, it worked for me. I even managed to reach chamber 15.
Hint: If you dont own a MOGA, use the Gamer Keyboard to play it.

Update GLTools, Version 1.25 added these features.
Strange, I followed all instructions and I just get a black screen after the Source logo.

Since its a Nexus 4, follow my configs and it should be fine.
My configs worked for 2 other users.

I did, nothing. I'm not trying to say you're wrong or anything...if it works for other people I'm sure your configs aren't the problem. I'm running the updated GPU binaries, perhaps that's the problem.

Oh, then we have something different, im using the standard binaries.
That may be causing it. Imma see if i can get something with those too to test it.
