Has anyone successfully replaced the USB port on their sensation? If so did you follow a specific guide?
I've read multiple places that the usb port is soldered onto the motherboard itself.

From a teardown video it seems it's as you say - soldered. Though the part is available on Ebay.
However, Attempting repair by yourself is quite risky - unless you know exactly what you are doing (you need to desolder the damaged one, and the solder the new one). Doing this procedure wrong could possibly render your device into an expansive paperweight.
As for a guide - couldn't find one, and if you are not an expert in soldering, I suggest taking it to service to fix it, not worth the risk IMO.

Hi guys.
Earlier this morning. My HTC is not charging. I've check the micro-usb port and it appears that there is a problem in the port because there is a brocken pin. I've tried to re-align it and out of luck, the pin broke. I am wondering if it is difficult to replace the micro USB battery port of the HTC sensation. I saw a post on incredible S section and it's easy to replace it as the USB port is just connected on the board via ribbon. Have anyone have encountered the same issue. Worse case scenario is I will need to have the usb port be remove on the phone and replace by a new one, but I am not good on soldering stuff and I might mess the phone big time. I hope someone can reply thanks.

At ifixit you can see a picture, that shows, that the port is soldered to the board.
I think it will be hard to solder a new one to it, since the pins are very tiny. Maybe you can find a replacement board on ebay?
Hello.
I am in need of board-level repair for my XT926. The connector that the FFC ribbon cable from the LCD screen plugs into was damaged and is missing pins. It will probably need to be replaced.
I have called and searched and can find no repair company that will fix it. Even Motorola (as they will just send me a replacement).
I am worried about the data/pictures I have stored on the phone, so I would like to get this up and running.
Does anybody know of a shop that can do this? I know it isn't a "common" repair, but am willing to pay for it being done to save my data.
Thanks in advance...

I'm still looking for this, if anybody has the skills or no where I can get this done. Money talks.
Thanks.

It would require serious equipment (hot air soldering station with proper nozzles) and a new part, probably from another motherboard. It's by no means an easy fix.
But why don't you try this:
If the phone boots up, hook it up to a TV or monitor with a HDMI cable.
You should see your phone screen on the TV once it booted.
Connect a mouse with a USB OTG cable to the phone.
You can now either enable bluetooth, connect a bluetooth mouse, so you can free up the microUSB for connecting the phone to the PC to save all your data/pictures/etc.
Or you can leave the mouse connected through the USB and insert a microSD card into the phone to save your data there.
Hi! My mother's S7 is not recognized by any PC right now. Before I order a new USB PCB I'd like to ask for some help here. The symptoms are:
- Charge and fast charge fully working
- Everything inside the phone is workin, not a single scratch
- When I plug in to any PC, no data mode transfer appears, neither under quick settings, just charging.
- Windows doesnt recognize anything when the phone plugged in, seen on device manager.
Did you install the Samsung USB drivers?
9 times out of 10 it is the USB port. This can be replaced by dismantling the phone and connection a new USB ribbon.
If you have tried this and ruled out the port, I had one where a dodgy charger had fried some components between the USB ribbon connector and the multiplexer IC. I had to replace components ZD8008, ZD8008, R8019 and R8020. These serve as input protection on the USB data lines.
Someone with microsoldering repair experience will be able to replace these for you. You be no more than 75 Euro. It does involve dismantling so may void warranty/water resistance.

I guessed so. Where can I find this components? Are they smds resistors, capacitors? I know microsoldering but does it deserve the effort? I mean, can I found a USB pcb replacement and just replace the whole piece?
Thank you very much!
EDIT: Like this one
EDIT2: I missunderstood your first line...I haven't already tried to replace the usb pcb. I think I'll try and if it doesn't work, well... I hope not -.-"
I draughted this reply before I saw your edit; sounds like you know what to do though: :good:
Sorry, it never occurred to me that you hadn't tried a new USB port flex yet. 9 times out of 10 it is that. Get one to try; fitting it is a pain because you have to separate the screen from the mid frame for the back/app button backlights but you can test it without removing the old one. They are very cheap and available on eBay etc.
If the new USB doesn't help, the fix is probably the microsolder repair I described above. Those components are in the main PCB so a USB daughterboard swap won't help.

Ok, I have a realme 1 that is dying, I have posted on the new phone thread but I do not expect to get a phone that meets my needs better in all aspects.
**What phone should I buy next?** -- Not sure what device to buy? Ask here!
Hi everyone, This thread is a continuation of this thread. This is here so you can discuss what your next phone/tablet should be, if you're not sure what to pick. Also, if you need advice as to which device is better than another, then feel...

The issue is that the micro USB connector is getting worn down and the battery discharges in a few hours. Even new I used to have days on which my battery 3950mAH would be exhausted by the end of the day.
I want to do the following thing
Replace the micro USB port with a USB C port. physically my phone is a plastic fantastic and I plan to carve/shave out the few mm with a knife/scalpel and fill any voids with a combination of expoy putty and expoxy glue. My problem is how to do the internal wiring. I have done some soldering but nothing on a PCB. The most fine work I have done is patch speaker wires. Every repair person i have talked to says that it is absolutely impossible to do. I would appreciate it if someone could walk me through it.
Realme has now released phones with a 6000 mAH battery, So I propose to separate the back cover, carve any obstructions, create any posts needed with epoxy putty, and fix the battery with hot glue. Again the problem is the connections. I realize that the thickness of the phone will increase due to this and plan to fill the gap with epoxy and hot glue.
Yes, I realize that my phone is going to be a Frankenstein's monster. As long it works well I don't care.
I would appreciate it if someone could guide me

You know you can get a USB C chip for really cheap (compatible with the processor)? All youd have to do then is attach the ribbon cables, enlarge the port hole and test to see if power passes through with a cable. Make sure not to use too much glue, however, because when the phone heats up the glue may melt and run over the motherboard, resulting in a ruined phone.

I was already prepared to enlarge the opening, please tell me about this chip. where Can i find more information on that?

There is actually a YouTuber that I conveniently forgot the name of... But he does DIY projects like this, like adding a headphone jack to iPhone 7s and stuff. Call if modding. But his parts come from Chinese marketplaces. I would suggest you research a USB C component chip. Not sure how old your phone is but they are basically universal depending on the OS supported hardware (like Android 9+ supporting QC3.0).
Thank you again for replying. I do not need quick charge. It came with 2A 10 W chip, and that's enough. Cannot I connect the USB C port to the input on my phone. Most USB C implementations are USB 2.0, SO that SHOULD be 4 pins and 5v at max 2 A.
Problem is that that the repair centers are assuring me that is not the case.
Hello everyone!
I found my old Galaxy S6 lying around in my home and I decided to use it as a development phone. The battery was bad and the usb wouldn't connect with my pc anymore. When I connected it it on Windows it gave bad descriptor errors for some time, and then it wouldn't get recognized anymore. I thought it was the USB connector board and since it was hard to replace I gave up and bought a new phone.
I recently decided to risk replacing it since I have no use for it anyway so I got a battery and a USB connector board replacement. I managed to do it and the phone looks good, except the USB still doesn't work. On windows it doesn't even get listed in the device manager and on linux the dmesg command gives this output:
Code:
[4249.142864] usb 1-1-port3: attempt power cycle
[4250.314394] usb 1-1-port3: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
[4251.170460] usb 1-1-port3: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
[4251.171100] usb 1-1-port3: unable to enumerate USB device
I don't know what to think. I also thought the stock firmware got corrupted last time I flashed it but I can't try a different one since the USB is broken and there's no root on it. At this point I think the issue is either the software or the motherboard, but the phone is good except for the usb so I don't really know what to do.
Do you have any suggestions? Is there a way to flash a custom firmware without the USB?
Carefully check the ribbon connector pins for damage.
Was the replacement port PCB the correct one?

Yes the PCB is the right one, it's a very specific board with the audio jack, capacitive sensors for the back and task-manager buttons and the usb connector. There's no ribbon cable, it's just a connector that snaps into the motherboard.
And everything is fine on the board except for the device enumeration. It's like either the firmware can't get the USB up or there's some other kind of issue in the main board.
The problem is I can't try flashing another firmware since I can't get root on it. I also tried apk based roots but it seems they've been patched on my android version (7.0)
EDIT: there actually is a ribbon cable connecting the usb board to the motherboard through the snap connector, but being on the replaced board I guess it is fine. I also checked the connector on the MB side and it looks okay.
Was the old port PCB known bad?
If not, probably a blown mobo.

Not confirmed, but I assumed it was since the USB was broken... the charging was slow but that was probably due to the dirty connector. At this point if it's a hardware issue then it's the motherboard...
Isn't there anything I can do to root the phone without the USB? At least I would be able to use adb wifi debugging and make use of it as a dev phone...
I have an update. I tried using an old pc with USB 1.1 ports and a linux live distro and it somehow recognized the phone. It was working fine so I got into download mode and I tried flashing TWRP using heimdall. I had some issues so I had to compile the latest version, but the flashing process stops when reading the PIT data.
I installed windows and tried with Odin, same result, it works until "Get PIT for mapping" and never goes further...
I also tried different USB cables, ports with the same result. Could there be an issue with this "PIT"?

What is a Samsung PIT file? What does it do? Which PIT file to use if there is more than one? We answer this and a lot more in this explainer article!

It's possible you suffered a SEU, they are rare but can happen at any time. The data effected is completely random, it can be any data on the flash memory including the PIT. Restoring the corrupted data is the only fix.
The hardware will be intact if this is the cause.

Well, that would explain why the USB suddenly stopped working, but it's like a one in a billion chance. In the meantime, with no other idea coming to my mind, I officially give up and use the phone with stock firmware and no root.
I will install userland and use it as a raspberry with touch screen lol.
Thank you for your patience and your help
