[Q] CM10.2: Can't mount USB storage - HTC One S

Just installed cm-10.2-20130824-NIGHTLY-ville.zip. Turn on USB storage doesn't work - throbber keeps spinning forever. Logcat shows
Code:
E/MountService( 677): Failed to share/unshare
E/MountService( 677): com.android.server.NativeDaemonConnector$NativeDaemonFailureException: command '36 volume share /storage/sdcard0 ums' failed with '401 36 volume operation failed (No such device)'
Anyone seen this before?

I had this problem when I accidentally deleted the sd card during a poor flash attempt. Took me a really long time to fix, formatted the sd card in windows after mounting on twrp. Does the phone find the sd card?

Yep the sd card works fine in the phone, it's only when connecting via usb to my (Linux) laptop to transfer files that it fails to mount it.
(I would post to the CM10.2 thread but I don't have permissions...)

same issue here
I just installed cm-10.2-20130824-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip and not able to access not even the internal storage. I go to file manager, sdcard0 is selected at the top but no files are displayed.
I then wiped off everything and installed the previous build cm-10.2-20130823-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip . Same issue. Don`t know what to do..

Ok, so now i`m running the first build for CM 10.2 ( cm-10.2-20130819-NIGHTLY-i9100 ) same issue.
Basically when i open the camera it`s says No external storage available. If i go to Settings->Storage it shows Internal Storage 2Gb in size (this is where my apps are installed). Under that it shows SD Card with 16Gb (this is actually my external SD Card).
I really don`t understand what`s wrong here

I suspect you may have better luck in the Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 forum, as this one is for the HTC One S.
Unless you're trying to install the i9100 rom on the One S, in which case I'm surprised it even boots.

Wanting to flash Sky ICS but can't mount sdcard!

I want to flash SKY ICS but even after formatting my whole phone (internal and sdcard) when I am in CWM trying to flash the ROM, it keeps saying that there is an error mounting the sdcard. What is going on?
I do not mind losing all my data, I have everything backed up. Currently, I have everything to factory settings except for root.

Does cwm see your internal? Try putting Rom on it. Does your computer see both drives in usb mass storage?
Edit: how are you formatting your sd card?

Not sure if this will help, am going to try this later, having the same issue with internal sd card not mounting but flashing still seems to work aside from the android_secure folder.

I can see my internal on the PC but it won't mount as USB storage in CWM.

I'm using cwm to format my sdcard. I also tried formatting from within android. No luck
My computer recognizes the mass storage. Cwm sees the rom I put in the mass storage, but only when I select "install from internal memory"

If you can first check if you can see the SD cards on the phone. You can use astro app to do it... if you cannot then you should use the phone settings to reformat the SD cards. I think you should reformat in any case! Make sure you do not format it on a computer but the phone itself. If you have difficulty let me know and I am going to give a step by step how to do it.

U can format it with your pc fat32. I have done it myself.
When I say sdcard I'm referring to the USB mass storage. I don't have an external SD card. The USB mass storage is formatted to FAT 32

OK..You had me confused. In your first post you said you formatted your internal and sd card. We're thinking you have two "drives". I'll give you a step by step and be as detailed as I can. I don't see why this is happening, maybe user error, maybe your phone is corrupt in some way which odin stock tar may clear up but I would suggest doing these steps in this order and I will be as specific as possible.
1. On your stock rom, go to settings---storage---format usb storage---format usb storage---erase everything (since you don't mind this) once finished...
2. (Connect usb cable to pc but not the phone.) Now under settings again go to wireless and network---usb utilities---connect storage to pc---now it will tell you to connect usb cable to mass storage, go ahead and connect usb---it will say usb connected---now click connect usb storage---now your pc will show the drive letter that it will now call your interal phone storage.
3. Now assuming you have your ROM zip on your pc already, put that file onto the root of your phone storage. Copy to x: (whatever drive letter it is, no folders) Once the file is copied, click disconnect storage from pc on your phone.
4. Open your applications---open up My files---make sure the file is on your phone storage. If so proceed...
5. Reboot to CWM recovery---If you havent done a backup yet, do so now just to be safe. Once complete you can now flash your rom.
6. Click wipe data/factory reset---now click wipe cache partition---now click advanced---click wipe dalvic cache---click go back---click install zip from sd card---click choose zip from internal sdcard---now look for your
ROM zip that you copied over---click yes install---once its done go back and reboot system now.
Now as I created this, I went step by step on my phone as if I was going to do this just to make sure I didn't miss anything. I do have an external sdcard so I had an extra option when I was in "install zip from sdcard", but even though, I still have the option to install from "internal sdcard".
It may have been overkill, but there should be no reason why this wouldnt be a straight forward process for you. If it doesnt work you may have a problem with your phone and may need to odin the stock tar and start fresh. I hope it helps.
Good write up. Lol yeah ...same deal here thought op was talking about internal and external. This is where the skyrocket is a little diff then alot of devices. Usb mass storage is whats is left of your 16 gig internal
Because part of it is partitioned for your system files.
And yes its pretty darn cool that u have all that and can still add an external/removeable micro sd
Lol i have 16 gig external . Never even came close to filling my storage.
My galaxy nexus has 32gig internal
And no external slot
Which was a very poor choice by sammy.

Internal Memory= USB Mass Storage
External SDcard= Physical SDcard

Very good write up. I am appalled by this community, and I hope the skyrocket ownership increases. Or, the SGS III could come, and we could all jump on that ship
I will posts results later on.
Thanks for the short guide, everything went well, and I have sky ics on my skyrocket! I just hope sammy releases ics for this beast device..... but then again, their reputation.
Glad it worked out. Just make sure you set up gmail before any updates. And if you flash anything else (seanz has alot of goodies) clear both caches---cache partition---and dalvik cache---before you flash any goodies. It's a great ROM, I always go back to it.
Question: why do you have to setup gmail first? And is it okay to flash mods after installing a few apps? Our do I have to start fresh?

CM10 (Official Alpha) SD Card issue

I recently flashed CM 10 Official Alpha on my AT&T Skyrocket and I've experienced an issue with my SD card. Basically it shows us as my internal storage. Whenever I hook it up to my PC via USB (Windows 7) my internal storage pops up and another disk that I can't access (grayed out). The files I have on my SD card show up whenever I enter recovery mod (Currently on Touch Recovery) but I can't access it through my PC or any other way. I've tried file browsing applications from the market to see if the SD card shows up, but no luck. I also read the change log on their website to see if there was any issues with an SD card and I came up with nothing. I followed every step exactly as posted in the topic when flashing. Is there any way to get my SD card to show up?
Thanks in advanced.
I second this. What I've been doing is copying things onto the internalSD, then using a file manager to get it on external.
Painful, yes, but, I don't think it's ready yet.

Under storage (sd card) total space: unavailable, available space: unavailable. mount sd card, erase sd card,sd card encryptin are all grayed. I am on stock rom 3.20.502.52. i also tried to mount it on previous stock roms. I am S-on...i had rooted phone and didnt wont to mount it also so i returned to stock to try. I treied almost everything that i could remember. I formated my card in computer,no luck i tried with diffrent sd card,no luck. I tried with adb command, fastboot oem enableqxdm 0,it says ok but still can mount, tried with fastboot eom eraseconfig but i culdnt execute that command, some error dont now which one...oo tried that all while i had rooted inspire. All my card works fine in diffrent phone but not in mine, please help,i am going crazy. I cant take photos, listen music, almost nothing
Other than something being stuck in the adapter I would say the reader needs to be replaced. Probably not what you want to hear.

I had this happen to me after downloading around 285 apps. I had most of my apps stored on the sd card once downloaded and had no problems; then all of a sudden after rebooting the Inspire would not recognize the sd card or unmount. I tried almost everything until I came across a post regarding the amount of apps stored on the sd card. The only solution (bear with me while I try to explain this) was to transfer most of the apps back to phone until I got the amount of files stored in the asec folder under the total amount of internal memory available on the phone; which for me was 1.14GB. I haven't had the problem since and now the app icons show up on my home screen without several reboots and my card can finally be unmounted. Hope that helps.
Any fix? I have same problem

[CM13.0] Internal storage problem

Hello.
I have just wiped my device and installed the newest CM13.0 - Marshmallow (LG G3 D855). After rebooting and configuring my phone I got an information that my SD card is unknown. After pressing the notification the phone asked me if I want to use my SD card as external or internal storage. I read about this in the Web and decided to choose the 2nd option. The card was formatted (it was stucked at 20% for couple minutes and after that time progress bar disappeared - no information about success or errors). Internet said me to reboot my phone after the operation is completed.
Now I have a problem. External storage disappeared. I was expecting it to be a part of my old internal storage (about 10GB + 64GB of my SD). What I saw was still 10GB and nothing more. I tried to go to the settings and checked `Storage and USB`. I found my card but I couldn't check the size and anything (there was an information "Checking...", which didn't refreshed even after 2h of waiting...). I think my SD was FAT32, but I'm not sure.
Now when I put the card into my PC i see it has 16MB of size. I tried to format it with size adjustment into NTFS, exFAT and FAT32 - the size of 64GB came back but after doing factory reset and configuring everything in the same way as I described before, I get same issues (using all the file systems).
After all I got angry and decided to choose using my SD normally as an external storage. In this case I see my card and I'm able to copy data on it, BUT... It has size of 16MB... I'm tired of this and really don't have any ideas how to repair it. I don't care if it is internal or external storage. I want this to start working as expected.
Informations:
- LG G3 D855
- CM13.0 (cm-13.0-20151127-NIGHTLY-d855.zip (290.07 MB))
- MicroSDXC ADATA 64GB CLASS-10 (AUSDX64GUICL10RA1)
[EDIT - SOLVED PARTIALLY]
I have partially solved the problem. I noticed that this 16MB is just a swap space. Probably that's why Android saw it as a partition to use.
I managed to set my SD as an external storage. I used EaseUS Partition Master. I deleted all partitions on my card. Next I created a new UNFORMATTED partition (just a raw partition). Then I put my card into the microSD slot in my G3 and started the phone. I chose `external storage` option and it worked! I tried the same for internal but it hangs at 20% and gets an exception. So for now until they fix this, I will use it in the old way.

i cant say this will work, but if i had your problem i would clean off the rom and flash it again, and while in twrp before booting, format your sd card. if that doesnt help, i dont know what else to try.
i didnt know this storage option was added to cm13, but anyways, i would never use external storage as internal. ii have seen people try for years, and usually come back with some problems.

I just ran into this problem on a LS990 (Sprint LG G3) and your post gave me a lead on how to fix it.
I didn't have a microsd reader handy so I used adb shell while in recovery and deleted the partition with fdisk
1. opens ADB
Code:
adb shell
2. This shows you the partitions on your device so you can pick out your external sd card
Code:
cat /proc/partitions
3. mmcblk1 was my external sd card, yours may be different
Code:
fdisk /dev/block/mmcblk1
4. P shows your partitions on the device
Code:
p
5. D deletes the partition on your selected device device
Code:
d
6. O creates a new empty dos partition table
Code:
o
7. N creates a new partition and I accepted all defaults
Code:
n
8. W writes new partition table to disk and exits fdisk
Code:
w
9. I then shut down my phone and removed the microsd.
10. Power phone back on. Once phone has completed boot, insert SD card and it'll give you the option to set up the SD card because it's corrupt. This time, choose portable.
**Note: I'm not an expert by any means and this may be completely unnecessary to go through, but this happened to work for me. Use at your own risk**
up any solution in 2016 ??

Z5 No external SD after Marshmallow [NOW WITH FIX]

Morning all
I updated my Z5 to MM 6.0, and i am no longer able to access my external SD card. Card is a Sandisk Ultra 32Gb CLass 10
It was NOT set up as shared storage before the update, and worked fine before the update.
I have taken the card out of the phone and re-inserted it to see if it'll detect it, but that restarts the phone and still does not show.
I've also taken the card out and put it in a card reader on my laptop, contents show fine as they were before the update, and even tried formatting to exFAT to see if it would detect it, but the phone still does not see it.
Is there a fix for this? I'm a bit annoyed at this, and will be thoroughly pissed off if it won't come back as i use it for camera and music storage to keep the phone memory as clear as possible.
EDIT: NOW A FIX
See post #16 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66090631&postcount=16
I got the same problem, but finally I found that my SD card path changed to /storage/D8F7-09FA, It makes some App can not find SD card, I think it's a bug in the new OS.

My SD Card is now named 2885-BD47 but I still am able to access all content
At least via File Commander and also via Gallery and also games...
Same problem here. In addition, I could not delete anything on the card through File Commander nor format the SD card in the android storage setting (got some sort of partition error). I also connect the card to PC through phone (with card inside the phone and set to MTP) and the PC could "delete" it but the files are actually still there after that when I open them through phone. I don't have a card reader with me at the moment so can't try that. The card was working fine before I upgraded to MM.
I reformatted mine after it was causing the phone to crash after the update. Try normal fat32 and make sure it's an active partition

I got the same problem, but finally I found that my SD card path changed to /storage/D8F7-09FA, It makes some App can not find SD card, I think it's a bug in the new OS.

I reformatted mine after it was causing the phone to crash after the update. Try normal fat32 and make sure it's an active partition

Done that this morning, still no joy. Reads fine in a card reader, just not in the phone.
Oddly, it does not show at all like DMC_UNIVERSE post, i've been through all the folders and nothing shows with the contents of my SD card.
Really annoyed now
Sony have advised me to try the Software Repair via the Companion software. Still not working, and i've lost all my data. Now have to set up the phone from scratch again!!!
This is a Marshmallow issue, not a Sony one. It happened to me on my Nvidia Shield Tablet after it got the MM update too...

Friend of mine had the same problem with his microsd card sandisk 64GB class 10.. Whenever that happens, it means your sdcard is rubbish. Defect, dead, bye bye Charlie, R.I.P.. Buy a new sdcard.

Morning all
I updated my Z5 to MM 6.0, and i am no longer able to access my external SD card.

Connect the sdcard to the pc with sdcard usb adapter or reader. Try to wipe its contents, format it with default settings, select quick format. (backup whatever u need first).. After thats done insert the sdcard in to the phone and format it using the phone format sdcard option in settings>storage.
If for any reason after you reinsert your sd card back in to the phone all the contents on the sd card are still there, then simply put.. Your micro sd card is defect. Throw it out and buy a new one. Lol. This is alsoa common problem with sandisk ultra micro sd cards. Sandisk even admit it in a forum i read once, cant remember the link im afraid. But a simpke google search is your best friend for that .
Hope this cleared a few things up for u

Oh something i forgot to mention, if any of you have a custom recovery and rooted device, try this, (as it could be possible your device had put a protection/lock on the sdcard). Try to format the micro SD card within the Custom recovery instead if it doesn't work from within the settings menu.. you'll also have a bit more detail as to whats going on with the card. If custom recovery fails to format the card, then the card is literally defect. Buy a new one

Why would the problem only surface after MM update if it is a defect?

I'm not sure as to what the MM update has to do with it, It could just be coincidence that your MicroSD card just happen to become defected at the time of the update...
although it seems like too much of a coincidence.. there is only 1 way to be Exactly sure, that it aint your MicroSD.. If you have any data on the card that isn't important. Then try this and post back your results....
1. Insert the microSD in to your MicroSD adapter or card reader on your PC..
2. Try to format the SD card within windows either as eXFAT or FAT32 (Try both) Inserting the card back in to the phone after each Format with both File Systems
3. Check the SD card in files within your phone with a file explorer and see if the Data on your SD card is STILL there, If it is.. The Card Is Defect/Damaged/Corrupt etc..
4. If all the data is gone, Then navigate to your Settings>Storage>Format SD CARD (using the phone/device to format it)
Let me know how you Go..

Cannot format through phone like I said in my previous post.
Tried on pc and completed the formating but the files were still there after that. Files are still accessible through pc and phone after the formatting.

Im afraid your sdcard has forsaken you.. I just happen to still have the sdcard that belonged to my mate, and i tried formatting, wiping contents through phone and pc. Even though pc allows you to format, it actually doesnt do anything. Try a new sdcard mate

There have many threads and discussions on the sandisk forums with many people having the same issues with these csrds.. Some people even bought 4-5 of them and had to send them all back to sandisk and get them replaced with working cards.. Apparently these cards do not handle being formatted too many times all that well.. Infact, people have been claiming that when they format it once or twice the card still works fine. Then after the 4-5th time, they just give out and just stop working all of a sudden.. Here is the link to the forum
http://forums.sandisk.com/t5/Mobile...sk-Ultra-64gb-MicroSD-Wont-format/td-p/284884
One user claims he used this method and it seemed to have fixed the problem.

I had the same problem as everyone else here on the forum. Nothing worked but this.
You have to format the card using Windows Command level option;
1. Run and type "cmd"
2. Then type; "format L:"
3. Get a cup pf coffee and relax
*
Notes
** L = your sd card drive letter
** don't use quotation marks
** there is a space between format and the drive letter
------------------------------
Give that a try and let me know how it goes..
Good luck guys..
EDIT: I am infront of my PC now, so I am going to try format it this way through CMD PROMPT (aka MS-DOS), and because its a 64GB card, it will take a little bit of time.. So far it's been going smoothly and it's at 13% (roughly 1% every 45sec - 1min 10sec).. It must be doing a thorough format rather than a quick format.. Let's just wait and see if all ends well..
I Will post the results / outcome once format is complete and after I test it in one of my devices..
Edit: no good.

ReEdit:: Well, the good news is, my marshmallow Z5 detects and accesses my 32GB card with proper file pathing, rw access etc..
Maybe taking your sdcard out while updating to MM could have prevented a file pathing corruption, renaming.
But @ the person who's sdcard just stopped working altogether, but you're card done for man. Funny thing is, its mainly sandisk cards. I'm not a fan of sandisk, they are too unreliable IMO..
Right, after a lengthy formatting session using windows and CMD prompt, neither worked (exFAT or FAT32).
I downloaded SD Card Formatter as suggested by this post http://forums.sandisk.com/t5/Mobile...tra-64gb-MicroSD-Wont-format/m-p/285302#M1787, and tried formatting with this (link to format tool: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/index.html).
I tried 3 times with this, the only option that worked was to use the FULL (OVERWRITE) option within the software. Took a while, but once done, the phone discovered the card when it was inserted back into the phone. It is now recognized by all apps, and for good measure, i ran a format of the SD card from the phone's storage options in the settings menu. No prior contents showing, so all is good.
I've since copied the contents back onto the card, and they are now visible.
Thanks guys for your help!

Glad to see you go it sorted out and working mate..
Just something to remember for future reference, windows disk manager wont allow formatting anything bigger than 30GB to fat32.. You need to use a program like easeus partition master when doing so..
But im sure you're already aware of that .
Anyway. Glad you got it sorted anyway mate..
Well, i tried again using the tool provided in the link. Its a no go. The card is a dud.. I hate sandisk devices i tell ya.. Lol
same happened to me also the Play Services error, ended up reformatting the sd and clean install MM, all workin great now
i found a solution to your problem
try formatting your sd card to ur other phone and try it again on your z5
just sharing my knowledge hope it work
