I want to flash SKY ICS but even after formatting my whole phone (internal and sdcard) when I am in CWM trying to flash the ROM, it keeps saying that there is an error mounting the sdcard. What is going on?
I do not mind losing all my data, I have everything backed up. Currently, I have everything to factory settings except for root.

Does cwm see your internal? Try putting Rom on it. Does your computer see both drives in usb mass storage?
Edit: how are you formatting your sd card?

Not sure if this will help, am going to try this later, having the same issue with internal sd card not mounting but flashing still seems to work aside from the android_secure folder.

I can see my internal on the PC but it won't mount as USB storage in CWM.

I'm using cwm to format my sdcard. I also tried formatting from within android. No luck
My computer recognizes the mass storage. Cwm sees the rom I put in the mass storage, but only when I select "install from internal memory"

If you can first check if you can see the SD cards on the phone. You can use astro app to do it... if you cannot then you should use the phone settings to reformat the SD cards. I think you should reformat in any case! Make sure you do not format it on a computer but the phone itself. If you have difficulty let me know and I am going to give a step by step how to do it.

OK..You had me confused. In your first post you said you formatted your internal and sd card. We're thinking you have two "drives". I'll give you a step by step and be as detailed as I can. I don't see why this is happening, maybe user error, maybe your phone is corrupt in some way which odin stock tar may clear up but I would suggest doing these steps in this order and I will be as specific as possible.
1. On your stock rom, go to settings---storage---format usb storage---format usb storage---erase everything (since you don't mind this) once finished...
2. (Connect usb cable to pc but not the phone.) Now under settings again go to wireless and network---usb utilities---connect storage to pc---now it will tell you to connect usb cable to mass storage, go ahead and connect usb---it will say usb connected---now click connect usb storage---now your pc will show the drive letter that it will now call your interal phone storage.
3. Now assuming you have your ROM zip on your pc already, put that file onto the root of your phone storage. Copy to x: (whatever drive letter it is, no folders) Once the file is copied, click disconnect storage from pc on your phone.
4. Open your applications---open up My files---make sure the file is on your phone storage. If so proceed...
5. Reboot to CWM recovery---If you havent done a backup yet, do so now just to be safe. Once complete you can now flash your rom.
6. Click wipe data/factory reset---now click wipe cache partition---now click advanced---click wipe dalvic cache---click go back---click install zip from sd card---click choose zip from internal sdcard---now look for your
ROM zip that you copied over---click yes install---once its done go back and reboot system now.
Now as I created this, I went step by step on my phone as if I was going to do this just to make sure I didn't miss anything. I do have an external sdcard so I had an extra option when I was in "install zip from sdcard", but even though, I still have the option to install from "internal sdcard".
It may have been overkill, but there should be no reason why this wouldnt be a straight forward process for you. If it doesnt work you may have a problem with your phone and may need to odin the stock tar and start fresh. I hope it helps.
Good write up. Lol yeah ...same deal here thought op was talking about internal and external. This is where the skyrocket is a little diff then alot of devices. Usb mass storage is whats is left of your 16 gig internal
Because part of it is partitioned for your system files.
And yes its pretty darn cool that u have all that and can still add an external/removeable micro sd
Lol i have 16 gig external . Never even came close to filling my storage.
My galaxy nexus has 32gig internal
And no external slot
Which was a very poor choice by sammy.

Very good write up. I am appalled by this community, and I hope the skyrocket ownership increases. Or, the SGS III could come, and we could all jump on that ship
I will posts results later on.
Thanks for the short guide, everything went well, and I have sky ics on my skyrocket! I just hope sammy releases ics for this beast device..... but then again, their reputation.
Glad it worked out. Just make sure you set up gmail before any updates. And if you flash anything else (seanz has alot of goodies) clear both caches---cache partition---and dalvik cache---before you flash any goodies. It's a great ROM, I always go back to it.
Question: why do you have to setup gmail first? And is it okay to flash mods after installing a few apps? Our do I have to start fresh?

I've done a very silly thing and fear I may have bricked my phone
A little while ago my phone's USB connection kicked the bucket and in a rather foolish attempt to get rid of everything I re-formatted the lot and now have a completely non-functioning phone
I have a Samsung Galaxy S (GT-I9000) and had "ClockworkMod Revovery v2.5.1.3" installed with a "Voodoo Lagfix" when things started to go a little funky. Wanting to remove any trace of hackery before sending the phone back for warranty I booted into recovery mode and reformatted every partition I could, one after the other, only to discover that not only did this not remove the hacked boot-loader but it completely rendered my phone unusable! Now, without any image installed and not having a functioning USB connection I've been unable to flash a working ROM back again.
I do, however, still have a working ClockworkMod Recovery and have noted there is an option to "mount /sd-ext" and I am hoping there may be a way to sneak an image on to the phone through the external SD then use "choose zip from sdcard" to re image the phone. Anyone know if this is possible, and if so, would someone care to guide me through the process??
I came across this thread: Can I flash roms from external SD
Where the response was: "Yes, you can, just mount it from the CWM Recovery and you're set." which gives me hope but I'm not able to get there alone.
I have tried mounting the external SD card but get the message:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2
(File exists)
Error mounting SDEXT:!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks for that, I'm just not quite sure how to do it.
As I said I'm not able to mount the external SD card at the moment and even then I'm not quite sure what to do. If I do manage to mount it will it then be possible to navigate to the extranal SD with the "install zip from sdcard"?
In the mean time I have come across this nice looking tutorial for flashing to ICS but it says "Copy the downloaded ROM to your phone’s internal SD card (not microSD card)" which for me, sadly, is not an option :,-(
By the way, I'm not particularly fussed wich version of Android I managed to flash, I just want to be able to use my phone again.
Hmmm,
After more digging I've come to understand more about what I have done...
It would appear that what I did was foolishly reformat my system partition with out having another ROM to replace it - but it seems I may well have narrowly avoided formatting the boot partition.
Since doing this I have come across this extremely good advice:
Take extreme care with this option as formatting any of these partitions will result in losing all data on them, especially the boot and system partitions. Formatting the system partition will remove your ROM and leave your phone without an operating system while wiping the boot partition may brick your phone unless you restore or flash another one before rebooting your device. If only I'd read that before
I've also come to realize the "sd-ext" is not the external SD card at all and is in fact a kind of "extra" partition used especially for flashing ROMs.
So my problem gets deeper...
Is there any possible way to flash a ROM onto a phone with a formatted system partition and no working USB connection?
If there is, I'd dearly like to know how.
You can buy a micro usb card reader to transfer the ROM from your PC to your sd card then flashing it using CWM.

Sorry to be so darft but I can't work out how to flash from the external SD.
- By external I mean the removable micro SD card which is actually inside the phone.
I have another phone with which I can put the image on to the micro SD card, I'm just not sure what to do with it once I have it there.
I must be missing something pretty obvious because several people have said "just use CWM to flash from the SD card" but to be honest I just can't work out how to do it :s
I can get the image onto the micro SD card fine, the problem is that once I have the micro SD card with the new image on it in my 'bricked' phone I can't find how to get access to it with CWM?
if you can enter on cwm (home+vol up) you can flash all by your sd card, download a rom for your galaxy s, prefer for the official ones, put the zip on your sdcard, put your phone on cwm and select "install zip from external sd". i hope this help.
Idk if galaxy s have usb otg, but if have you can mount external usb in cwm.
and if you stay without understanding how to do it with cwm, go to galaxy s xda area:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=656
i hope you will find a good tutorial in there.
good luck
Hmm, just read a comment some where randomly on the internet:
"Depend on your CWM version, v5 install from external SD card by default. But you can select install from internal SD card too."
Perhaps "install from external SD card" is not supported in my version of CWM (v2.5.1.3 on a Samsung Galaxy S).
Maybe I should go ask about it in the SGS specific section.

Hehe, took the works right out of my mouth.
Thanks.
You essentially NEED adb access to push a rom to internal, as your phone's CWM version doesn't support external-sd card. Can you get ahold of another working cable? This would be the best route.

Thanks, I'm pretty certain it's the phones USB socket that is the problem though. It stopped responding to USB after a camping trip I went on and since then, even when it had a working ROM, I was unable to mount it as external storage. I have tried several cables and a couple of different computers and while it charges fine I was unable to get it to 'connect' as such. I have also checked the main cable I've been using with a different device and the cable worked as expected. When I started to get desperate I scrubbed it with a tooth brush and I even took the phone completely apart to sprayed the port with electrical contact cleaner but alas, it was to no avail.
I'm affraid i'm going to have to resolve this one sans USB
Why don't you buy a new cable ? An USB cable is always useful for daily use..

Flashing the newest leak failed, and bricked my phone....after doing several different things, I have the phone functioning again, the internal SD card is giving a "Blank USB storage or has unsupported file system" error and I cannot mount it or access it. I have reformatted it from both the OS and from recovery. Cleared caches, all of that, and no joy.
I've been searching for the last day, and haven't found anything useful. And advice on what I can try would be appreciated, or, at the very least, someone that knows what they're talking about just letting me know that it's pretty well screwed.

Are you referring to the "USB Storage" or "external_sd" folder in your internal?
The "external_sd" folder is just that...your external sd card.
The "USB Storage" folder is a feature of the skyrocket that allows you to connect a thumb drive to your phone with a micro USB to USB adapter.
If you do not have a thumb drive attached to the phone this folder will be blank by default.
Is that what you are talking about?

That is the error that it gives-- basically, the internal SD card doesn't show up and won't mount. Formatting it, it acts like it does it, does the scan afterwards, and has the same issue. Go to a file browser and it says "no sd card inserted." Go to storage in settings, and it shows device memory (total space 1.97GB), USB Storage is blank, SD Card has "mount SD card" when if touched tries to mount and then apparently fails and goes back to the "mount SD card" text.
If an external SD card is inserted, the only thing that changes is that a "SD card safe to remove" notification comes up.
From recovery, if I try to mount /emmc it says "Error mounting /emmc!" attempting to format /emmc gives the same error.
Have you tried to start from scratch from download mode using odin file?
I'm not at home right now but when I get home I can link you the instructions
EDIT:
Can you get into download mode??
-plug usb into computer(not phone yet)
-Turn off phone
-hold both volume up and down and plug usb into phone, continue holding until you see download mode
-should prompt you to hit the up volume button
-you should now be in download mode
-download this: "Odin one click 4.0.4 from kennethpenn" - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1652679
-make sure Odin sees your phone in one of the COM ports. Start Flash
-if everything works fine you should be on 4.0.4 ICS and you are free to do as you wish
Hope this helps. Kinda used as a last resort. Assuming you want ICS...

put it in a computer and check. File system should be fat32. not fat16, fat, or ntfs. I dont believe the phone does an actual format of the sd. I know thats what it says, but I think it means just erase. A real, true format is done after the empty space is partitioned and properly allocated. Ive never seen an unpartitioned sd card sooooo.

It's the internal SD card that's partition that appears hosed-- the built in one that can't be removed. I Downloaded an App that shows the partition table, and all that is listing is:
/mnt/sdcard
(mmcblk0p1) 0.0/0.0MB
/sd-ext
(mmcblk0p2) 0.0/0.2MB
I'm having the same problem. Re-flashing UCLF5 didn't help. I'm about to flash UCLE2, but have no real reason to think it'll work.
Ideas, anyone? The "usb storage" is the internal sd card and can't be removed and stuck in a computer.

If I can get it rooted, I may try to edit vold.fstab and mount my 32GB on /mnt/sdcard. I don't even care about the internal space, really, but it'd be nice to have a more elegant fix.

I can't post links yet, but if you google 'how root uclf5', the top hit is the guide I used. BTW, I had to apply the icsSuperuser zip from the SD card something like 10 times before it finally took.
Then installed a root browser with built-in text editor (root explorer) and used it to edit /etc/vold.fstab. Make the top of it look like this:
Code:
# internal sdcard
{
storage_struct = cover, "/mnt/sdcard/external_sd","/mnt/sdcard/usbStorage"
ums_sys_path = /sys/class/android_usb/f_mass_storage/lun/file
#discard = enable
#secure_format = enable
android_secure_containers = enable
}
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host/mmc2/mmc2
# external sdcard
{
ums_sys_path = /sys/class/android_usb/f_mass_storage/lun_ex/file
android_secure_containers = enable
}
#dev_mount sdcard1 /mnt/sdcard/external_sd auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host/mmc2/mmc2
I'm having this exact same issue. No fixes? I'm going nuts here.

This is what I always assumed as well. However, I have never been able to make this work. I also don't know enough to see how it could? (Insert flamage here) To me it would have to link to a dynamic disk that doesn't exist yet and the devices ability to power whatever you plugged in to it.
That said, I still tried it. "....to connect a thumb drive to your phone with a micro USB to USB adapter." ...on many rom/kernal/etc combos as well as trying to mount it in recovery (turns out that "usb drive" in recovery, doesn't mean that folder). So, at least on my phone, the USB Folder has never populated. (Additional flamage here)
I have done my DD on this and am really curious....hmmm

I don't believe that is what was meant. They mean using your phone as a usb thumb drive so that you don't need to carry around a usb thumb drive. Simply connect your phone to your computer via the usb cable and mount the drive.
I'm having a similar issue but I'm unable to connect my phone to my computer, it's complaining about "security policy restricts use of external sd card". I'll keep searching or maybe create a new thread if I can't find an answer.

This is a very simple and quick guide to show you how to format your external SD Card to FAT32. It took me a total of about 4 minutes from start to finish to format my 64 GB SD Card to FAT32. The main benefit of this is that your SD Card will now be recognized in CWM. I could not get Windows to format my SD Card by itself, which I was I use the program mentioned below.
Step 1: Download and Install EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition
http://download.cnet.com/EaseUS-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html
Step 2: Insert your SD Card into your computer with SD Card reader and open up the partition program
Step 3: On the main screen you should see your SD Card. Right Click and select format partition. Put in Partition Label (Optional), Select FAT32, and select a cluster size. The smaller the cluster size, the less wasting there is of disk space. I chose 4kb. Then Click "Ok"
Step 4: The Format will go into Pending Operations. Now click "Apply"
Step 5: Profit! Your card should now be FAT32.
Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Chengdu Yiwo Tech Development or their programs. I am also not responsible for anything that may happen as a result of this guide.
Also you can just use this simple tool: fat32format
I have refrained from doing this to my 64 gig card because IIRC doesn't FAT32 prevent you from saving any file over 4 gigs??

you're fine with exFAT as long as you don't want to flash a CM/AOSP based rom. Otherwise, you're just going to end up with a corrupt sdcard.

That is correct however you might want to read this article: Team Epic: Why not exFAT?
Also CWM and TWRP can't read your SD Card properly until you format it to Fat32.

I realize that, but I have movie RIPs that are over 4 gigs, so I just let CWM write to the internal storage & then back it up to my PC.

As of this moment, unfortunately, CWM doesn't support internal storage. There is one alpha build out there version 6.0.1.0 that I haven't tried yet, but so far every other version up to 5.8.4.9 either doesn't work properly or doesn't have an option for internal memory. In that case you may want to switch to TWRP and just use the internal storage there if you want to keep exFAT on your external SD Card.

huh? Every version I've installed was able to access the "internal sdcard". Backup/Restore works fine.

What version are you on now? Try choosing to flash a zip file, anytime I have done that it errored out and went back, wouldn't let me read the partition. The only exception is version 5.8.4.9 non-touch which uses the external SD card as it's only memory option and even then you still need to reformat it as FAT32 to get it working. So far, no version of official CWM has supported internal SD card at all, the default was always external but only started working with 5.8.4.9.
EDIT: Just checked CWM 6.0.1.0 is the first version that not only shows options for both the internal and the external memory, but also works with both as well. But upon further checking it's not official CWM either, just CWM-based.

The version I'm using (5.8.4.9) works just fine with the internal storage, I use it all the time & have done 3-4 restores from it also with no problem,
It also installs zips just fine, I do it all the time.

I'm using the kexec cwm right now listed as 6.0.0.8. Can't remember the other version number but it was the one included in the original root thread. Also didn't have an issue with the touch based kexec cwm that was linked with the first cm9 rom. Only errors related to flashing a zip file I've seen were corrupt downloads or flashing a kexec rom on a noncompatible cwm. Haven't tried the official one through rom manager but I tend to avoid that app anyways.
Just to make sure I wasn't imagining things, I just restored a CWM BU made two days ago from my internal storage (I figured worst case scenario I have to start over with all my apps)
The restore worked perfectly & it is definitely coming from the internal storage as CWM does not see my 64 gig card at all.
There is no way I am going to format a 64 gig card to a file system that limits me to under 4 gigs in file size, half the reason I bought that card was so I didn't have to worry about large file size.

I find it very interesting that CWM is giving you an option for internal SD card. Please tell me which version you are using and the exact words you see. Perhaps a photo? I just flashed 5.8.4.9 non-touch and I see no such option for internal SD card. The only memory option there goes directly to my external SD card without even asking.

I am using (5.8.4.9) non-touch version.
I could care less if its touch or non-touch or what it looks like as long as it works.
Mine has been backing up to the internal memory /mnt/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup by default & never gives me the option to do it anywhere else.
When I first installed it, I was pissed that it didn't detect my 64 gig card not realizing at the time it was because of the file system.
I tried to find an option to BU to the card, but there was no way to choose it. At that point, I figured who cares really as long as it works.
I flashed the root66 ROM & immediately made a BU. I then restored it to make sure it worked before I went any further.
It worked fine, so from then on every few days I copied the BU's to my PC & didn't worry about it.

Wow, I feel like a complete idiot. Apparently (and I have no idea how this happened) but my SD card got cloned onto my internal storage. So actually what's happening is that CWM 5.8.4.9 is by default to internal storage and in fact doesn't give you an option for external SD card at all. CWM-based 6.0.1.0 that I linked finally shows and works with both and so does TWRP but only when you format to FAT32. So ignore that I said CWM doesn't see internal storage, that was in fact it's default this whole time.
Format Int or Ext SD?

I fell upon this thread for 2 reasons
1. Insufficient memory downloading apps from GPStore ( 9/16GB Remaining on SD + 9/16GB Remaining on Enternal + 600MB Remaining on System)
-- I dont understand why that is happening.?!?!?
2. Is it neccesary to Format the Enternal memory (16GB)?

@open1your1eyes0,
so what you are saying is:
- its NORMAL to see CWM in both Internal and External SD? Therefore, it does not matter which CWM I use to flash a ROM? CWM 6.x.x.x vs CWM Touch 5.x.x.x vs TWRP?
Like right now I am copying all my internal storage to my PC & external storage card(merging)

Only CWM 6.x.x.x will see both where as CWM 5.x.x.x will see only internal memory. But even if you use CWM 6.x.x.x, to work with external SD card it has to only be formatted in FAT32.

Just installed cm-10.2-20130824-NIGHTLY-ville.zip. Turn on USB storage doesn't work - throbber keeps spinning forever. Logcat shows
Code:
E/MountService( 677): Failed to share/unshare
E/MountService( 677): com.android.server.NativeDaemonConnector$NativeDaemonFailureException: command '36 volume share /storage/sdcard0 ums' failed with '401 36 volume operation failed (No such device)'
Anyone seen this before?

Yep the sd card works fine in the phone, it's only when connecting via usb to my (Linux) laptop to transfer files that it fails to mount it.
(I would post to the CM10.2 thread but I don't have permissions...)
same issue here
I just installed cm-10.2-20130824-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip and not able to access not even the internal storage. I go to file manager, sdcard0 is selected at the top but no files are displayed.
I then wiped off everything and installed the previous build cm-10.2-20130823-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip . Same issue. Don`t know what to do..

Ok, so now i`m running the first build for CM 10.2 ( cm-10.2-20130819-NIGHTLY-i9100 ) same issue.
Basically when i open the camera it`s says No external storage available. If i go to Settings->Storage it shows Internal Storage 2Gb in size (this is where my apps are installed). Under that it shows SD Card with 16Gb (this is actually my external SD Card).
I really don`t understand what`s wrong here

I suspect you may have better luck in the Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 forum, as this one is for the HTC One S.
Unless you're trying to install the i9100 rom on the One S, in which case I'm surprised it even boots.
Morning all
I updated my Z5 to MM 6.0, and i am no longer able to access my external SD card. Card is a Sandisk Ultra 32Gb CLass 10
It was NOT set up as shared storage before the update, and worked fine before the update.
I have taken the card out of the phone and re-inserted it to see if it'll detect it, but that restarts the phone and still does not show.
I've also taken the card out and put it in a card reader on my laptop, contents show fine as they were before the update, and even tried formatting to exFAT to see if it would detect it, but the phone still does not see it.
Is there a fix for this? I'm a bit annoyed at this, and will be thoroughly pissed off if it won't come back as i use it for camera and music storage to keep the phone memory as clear as possible.
EDIT: NOW A FIX

My SD Card is now named 2885-BD47 but I still am able to access all content
At least via File Commander and also via Gallery and also games...
Same problem here. In addition, I could not delete anything on the card through File Commander nor format the SD card in the android storage setting (got some sort of partition error). I also connect the card to PC through phone (with card inside the phone and set to MTP) and the PC could "delete" it but the files are actually still there after that when I open them through phone. I don't have a card reader with me at the moment so can't try that. The card was working fine before I upgraded to MM.
I reformatted mine after it was causing the phone to crash after the update. Try normal fat32 and make sure it's an active partition

Done that this morning, still no joy. Reads fine in a card reader, just not in the phone.
Oddly, it does not show at all like DMC_UNIVERSE post, i've been through all the folders and nothing shows with the contents of my SD card.
Really annoyed now
Sony have advised me to try the Software Repair via the Companion software. Still not working, and i've lost all my data. Now have to set up the phone from scratch again!!!
This is a Marshmallow issue, not a Sony one. It happened to me on my Nvidia Shield Tablet after it got the MM update too...

Connect the sdcard to the pc with sdcard usb adapter or reader. Try to wipe its contents, format it with default settings, select quick format. (backup whatever u need first).. After thats done insert the sdcard in to the phone and format it using the phone format sdcard option in settings>storage.
If for any reason after you reinsert your sd card back in to the phone all the contents on the sd card are still there, then simply put.. Your micro sd card is defect. Throw it out and buy a new one. Lol. This is alsoa common problem with sandisk ultra micro sd cards. Sandisk even admit it in a forum i read once, cant remember the link im afraid. But a simpke google search is your best friend for that .

Oh something i forgot to mention, if any of you have a custom recovery and rooted device, try this, (as it could be possible your device had put a protection/lock on the sdcard). Try to format the micro SD card within the Custom recovery instead if it doesn't work from within the settings menu.. you'll also have a bit more detail as to whats going on with the card. If custom recovery fails to format the card, then the card is literally defect. Buy a new one

I'm not sure as to what the MM update has to do with it, It could just be coincidence that your MicroSD card just happen to become defected at the time of the update...
although it seems like too much of a coincidence.. there is only 1 way to be Exactly sure, that it aint your MicroSD.. If you have any data on the card that isn't important. Then try this and post back your results....
1. Insert the microSD in to your MicroSD adapter or card reader on your PC..
2. Try to format the SD card within windows either as eXFAT or FAT32 (Try both) Inserting the card back in to the phone after each Format with both File Systems
3. Check the SD card in files within your phone with a file explorer and see if the Data on your SD card is STILL there, If it is.. The Card Is Defect/Damaged/Corrupt etc..
4. If all the data is gone, Then navigate to your Settings>Storage>Format SD CARD (using the phone/device to format it)
Let me know how you Go..

There have many threads and discussions on the sandisk forums with many people having the same issues with these csrds.. Some people even bought 4-5 of them and had to send them all back to sandisk and get them replaced with working cards.. Apparently these cards do not handle being formatted too many times all that well.. Infact, people have been claiming that when they format it once or twice the card still works fine. Then after the 4-5th time, they just give out and just stop working all of a sudden.. Here is the link to the forum
http://forums.sandisk.com/t5/Mobile...sk-Ultra-64gb-MicroSD-Wont-format/td-p/284884
One user claims he used this method and it seemed to have fixed the problem.

I had the same problem as everyone else here on the forum. Nothing worked but this.
You have to format the card using Windows Command level option;
1. Run and type "cmd"
2. Then type; "format L:"
3. Get a cup pf coffee and relax
*
Notes
** L = your sd card drive letter
** don't use quotation marks
** there is a space between format and the drive letter
------------------------------
Give that a try and let me know how it goes..
Good luck guys..
EDIT: I am infront of my PC now, so I am going to try format it this way through CMD PROMPT (aka MS-DOS), and because its a 64GB card, it will take a little bit of time.. So far it's been going smoothly and it's at 13% (roughly 1% every 45sec - 1min 10sec).. It must be doing a thorough format rather than a quick format.. Let's just wait and see if all ends well..
I Will post the results / outcome once format is complete and after I test it in one of my devices..
Edit: no good.

Maybe taking your sdcard out while updating to MM could have prevented a file pathing corruption, renaming.
But @ the person who's sdcard just stopped working altogether, but you're card done for man. Funny thing is, its mainly sandisk cards. I'm not a fan of sandisk, they are too unreliable IMO..
Right, after a lengthy formatting session using windows and CMD prompt, neither worked (exFAT or FAT32).
I downloaded SD Card Formatter as suggested by this post http://forums.sandisk.com/t5/Mobile...tra-64gb-MicroSD-Wont-format/m-p/285302#M1787, and tried formatting with this (link to format tool: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/index.html).
I tried 3 times with this, the only option that worked was to use the FULL (OVERWRITE) option within the software. Took a while, but once done, the phone discovered the card when it was inserted back into the phone. It is now recognized by all apps, and for good measure, i ran a format of the SD card from the phone's storage options in the settings menu. No prior contents showing, so all is good.
I've since copied the contents back onto the card, and they are now visible.
Thanks guys for your help!

Glad to see you go it sorted out and working mate..
Just something to remember for future reference, windows disk manager wont allow formatting anything bigger than 30GB to fat32.. You need to use a program like easeus partition master when doing so..
But im sure you're already aware of that .
Anyway. Glad you got it sorted anyway mate..
Well, i tried again using the tool provided in the link. Its a no go. The card is a dud.. I hate sandisk devices i tell ya.. Lol
same happened to me also the Play Services error, ended up reformatting the sd and clean install MM, all workin great now
i found a solution to your problem
try formatting your sd card to ur other phone and try it again on your z5
