How long does it take you to:
1. unlock your phone (assume screen was off, in your pocket),
2. find & launch the camera app,
3. take a pic (include processing time for it to get into the photo gallery, and camera is ready for next shot)?
Include phone make/model.

Weird Question
Semc Wt19i
takes atmost 9 secs
In an urgent situation, if I need to take a quick pic...
It'll take me at least 15s, possibly up to 30s if my phone starts lagging.
Motorola DroidX.

I've been a long time user of the android camera app, touchwiz camera was downright amazing.
I recently flashed a cm10 based ROM and have been playing around with the camera and have some questions.
1. Do you need to tap the screen to focus every time you want to take a picture? My past cameras had the constant block of auto focus so you could just wait for the green and snap. Or does the tap focus only pertain to the spot you want to focus on?
2. Is there a macro mode?..perhaps this is 'flower' mode?
Finally...anyway to turn off the shutter sound other than silent mode? This ones not anything major I just figured I would ask. Thanks guys!

No, you don't need to tap the screen to focus every time. If you move around to different points in camera mode you'll see the screen zooming in and out to focus on the point in the center of the screen. I think the tap is to focus on a point off the center of the screen (taking a photo of someone while their not centered in the screen)
There is a macro mode. When you open the camera there's a settings button right next to the negative zoom slider. After that there's a 3 button settings right where you just clicked, and in there you'll find macro/burst, and all the other extras.
I haven't seen a shutter sound off option yet.
Thanks! I am still unable to find macro..I did find the burst shot which ranges from 5-20 shots. However I don't see macro listed. Maybe I'm just missing it. If you are able could you upload a screenshot of it please? Thanks again!

You're welcome. I can't make a screenshot whenever I try it says that my storage is in use (assuming because camera is open) but if you go into the settings like I described before... the 4th one down gives you "focus mode" that's set to continuous.. click on that to the right and you'll find macro in there.

The AOSP camera is definitely lacking compared to the TW one.
That being said here is an ongoing project to add more features to the AOSP camera in order to make it closer to TW:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746611
I do miss the TW camera, but camera isn't a deal breaker for me to remain on TW... I see more benefits using aosp instead.
Thanks for the link, I'll be sure to bookmark it and check back periodically to see if there's improvements. I see in screenshots its able to store on extsdcard which is nice.
You can easily get rid of camera sounds renaming the sound files from CM -> media -> audio -> ui
just rename the camera files and video files with ending .bak and reboot your phone. After every update you have to do it again.
My camera starts only very slow since I have rooted my device. Only root with Lollipo 5.1 no custom rom.
When I click to open the camera, a black screen pops up and I have to wait for 5 seconds until I can use the camera.
Same when I want to use the flashlight in the dark. It takes 5 seconds for it to start and 5 seconds to turn off. When shooting a picture after the camera has started, the flash works normally.
Another problem I have is, when shooting a picture, I have to hold the camera very calm because I found a setting to change the picture quality to "High quality, slow shoot" and this affects the speed when taking a picture. Unfortunally this setting seems to have gonne. I upgraded to Android 5.1 and since than I cant find it anymore.
Has anyone a idea what could cause these problems?
Hey, does anyone else find that the camera on the P9 takes a good 5 or so seconds from clicking the app to it actually displaying the image(this happens randomly but not always)? I find it stays black for a few seconds before it finally displays what the camera sees. Every other app is quick to open though ?

I get this. I wondered if it started when I set the default storage location to SD card.
But, as you say, sometimes it is very quick.

Don't use Snapchat I'm afraid.
I have tested swapping the "priority to SD" flag but it is still inconsistent.
it seems that the problem fixed after disabled (priority to SD) and then take any picture. (so when open camera will load latest photo from internal storage not SD) .
I have this issue too. If the camera is still in the recent app cache it will open instantly. If I close it out and leave it about 5 minutes it can take at least 5 seconds before I can see the on screen image and take a photo...
I don't have the priority SD card switched on. I'm on the UK Vodafone SKU
Any ideas?
the problem is still exist after disabled the priority to sd . (it was ok for one day after disabled priority to sd but the problem back again yesterday) so it's not related to sd card . and it's really annoying when you want to take a picture you will miss it because of slow opening that happens randomly .
I tried the camera in safe mode and it seemed to work fine. Could be a third party app that is trying to launch at the same time.
I'll try investigate further.

ok . please keep us updated
So. Definitely looks to be a software issue. Either at the system level or third party apps. Most likely the latter.
I downloaded Open Camera and had the same inconsistent opening times. After I removed it from recents and opened a few other apps, Open Camera took around 3-5 seconds to be ready to take a shot.
Not sure which app is influencing it so much. So time to start disabling things and testing further. Joy.....
Hey hamud. What software version and SKU are you using?

it seems that not everyone has this problem ? what do you think?
How fast does camera open from locked phone if you use the power button and volume down button with to take a photo as soon as it opens?
It tells you speed on screen, maybe we can compare this too? I am getting 1.1 to 1.5 seconds.

you mean double tap the volume down while phone is locked ?
Sorry yes double tap, I always forget how to it and takes me longer than the actual camera to open and shoot.
I just came from Windows phones and am used to having dedicated camera button so am still adjusting.
The ultra snapshot took 1.7 seconds. But immediately after that the camera app was frozen for about 5 seconds before the screen showed live what the lens was seeing and let me take another shot. Really frustrating.
for me it took 1.0 , 1.7 and 2.4. I think the problem with huawei firmware. can you share your software version ?
EVAL09
C02B133
I tired removing well known resource heavy apps. Facebook, Twitter etc but no change. I removed AL3 as my launcher and went back to stock. Seemed to improve slightly but still get the 5-7 second freeze every now and again.
so it's not related to my model eval19 . so Huawei must know about this problem to solve it in new update . but I don't know how ?
Hi
when I am taking photos it seems that I am using the burst shot mode because I get a screen message saying that "burst shots cannot be saved to SD card".
This has been the case since I got the phone. As far as I am aware I have not changed any settings.
Q: how do I cancel the burst shot mode.
Thanks.

I'm pretty sure burst shot mode cannot be turned off - it is activated by keeping your finger pressed on the take picture button for more than 2 seconds. If you want just one picture taken, a brief press and release is all that's needed
Anyone know how to get the bursts to save to the SD?

I'd be interested to hear if there is such a way, but would not be surprised to find out there is no way w/o hacking the camera app or using a different camera app.
data-write rate what it is, I can see that Samsung may not have wanted to trust that the user is applying an SD card that is fast enough to accept the data transfer of fast full frame still images (which requires a much higher data rate than video recording at the same frame size).
Hi all!
I have just received a new Zenfone 6 (8/256 model) and immediately found a problem with the camera.
After the first run of the Camera app I couldn’t change any settings: the app crashed every time causing the phone to reboot. I then rebooted into the safe mode, changed the settings and the camera began to work.
An hour later I found another problem: artifacts became to appear on the photos (see attached images). It doesn’t matter if I turn HDR mode on or off. The artifacts appear only on the photos, not in the Camera app.
Also, if I flip the camera into the selfie position and take the photo it will not be saved to the Gallery and I will not be able to take another photo because the Gallery the Capture and the Flip Camera buttons won’t work.
What do you think, is this a hardware problem? Should I ask for an RMA?

Return the phone and ask for a replacement. You shouldn't be having those problems with a brand new phone.
Could it be a fault of your SD card if you are using one to store your pictures to?

I use only internal memory.
Also if I try to adjust the camera position using the volume rocker, the camera module travels ~1/3 of its patch, hangs for half a second and starts to move again.
So I requested an RMA because of the failure. The seller agreed for a refund.
While negotiating with the seller I tried to capture a few more photos (in both "normal" and "selfie" mods) which lead to a complete camera failure: the phone began to reboot every time I opened the Camera app. I believe this is a manufacturer defect.
I liked the phone though. After refund I will buy it again.

You had the bad luck of getting a faulty one. Good thing you got it from a respectable seller that would honor the guarantee. I'm very happy with mine and would definitely recommend you to buy it again.
