As far as i know there is no way to actually go backwards on your OS.
You could search for the the 2.3.... for the nexus S but i doubt that youll be in any luck.
What i reccomend is to take it to the next step.
I have heard good things about it.
Not sure if the Trim does any difference to nexus S but i believe it might help.
Try the following ... was about to flash it yesterday to mine but the download link doesnt seem to work !

From what i remember ... if there is an unlocked lock when boot up your phone, that means it is unlocked.
I thingx that it means that the phone is unlocked dont know if the SIM is as well.
Maybe someone else might shed more light into that

Of you really want gingerbread, find the oxygen ROM thread in the development section. It is a great ROM. Or try the new CyanogenMod nightly 4.3 ROM. There are a few bugs, but it is quite quick.
Edit: are you still on stock, unrooted?

Just do a Google search for nexus s stock images and you should be able to get them off Google developers or something. Just make sure you have adb installed. Fastboot unlock, flash factory 2.3 images and relock fastboot. Tell me if you need me to go in depth and I'll post a more in depth tutorial as o in bed right now

BTW the unlocked padlock on the turn on screen means your boot loader is unlocked but your GSM may not be unlocked.

[Q] Screen will not wake up after phone calls...

So here is my problem, it doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes after I make a phone call and finished with the call, I just turn off the screen and then put it back to my pocket. Then, I can't turn on the screen anymore, even with an incoming call, my phone will just ring and the screen is still black!!! Tried master reset... Didn't help... Tried flashing to another rom... Did't help... So I contacted HTC, and it seems like after I flashed the phone, they cannot repair the phone for me? Is that true? PLEASE HELP!!!
Thank you!
Anyone?
You rooted the phone and installed another ROM?
Now you have a problem.
You've tried re-installing the stock ROM?
Yes, I did rooted the phone and installed a new rom.
I'm not sure which rom is my original stock rom. Any ideas on how to find that?
Mine is a T-mobile HTC Sensation.
Thank you for your reply!

That I couldn't answer.
Maybe some of the T-Mobile guys are reading this and can help?
Hopefully! Thanks!
At first, I just thought it is a software problem, cuz it happened to my old HTC HD2 running android, but after trying rooting and flashing, Im pretty sure it is not a software problem.
Maybe this can give you some idea?:

But mine is US Tmobile, does that make a difference?
Thanks! I downloaded the second link you provided and flash the rom back to a Tmobile rom, but one more question. How do I make sure there is no trace at all?

[Q] Noob: all ROMS also contain a Kernel?

Hello.
Don't hate me for asking. Trying to understand.
When downloading a ROM, does the ROM includes a built-in Kernel?
I see a lot of talks about Kernels and I see that there are so many. But I am not sure if I am suppose to separately download a kernel before flashing, or do ROMs each contain a built-in Kernel?
Thanks!
Depends on the device, and depends on the ROM. Which are you using or interested in?
If the bootloader for your phone is locked, then the answer is no, the ROM will not provide a kernel.

I am talking about any of the ROM that are to be found in the Dev section. CM7, MIUI, and so and so on... (there are so many).
How does one know if the ROM has a kernel or not?
Bootloader? I don't even know what that is
All i know is that my phone is running MIUI right now (installed by the previous owner)

Why would my Bootloader will be locked?
My bootloader is locked (Droid 3), and I'm running CM7.
If a device can be rooted, custom ROMs can probably be installed on it.

Each one has there own kernel for the examples you have typed out, there are other kernel's that you can flash once you have downloaded a rom, but that all has to do with personal preference I would have to say
Thanks you

So people are forced to use the launchers and stuff they paid money for to be developed ;-).
So if you use a cooked ROM it also contains the proper kernel. if you can install not original rom (not update.zip provided by your brand ) then your boot is unlocked.

[Q] Cyanogenmod in bootloop, clockwork mod not loading properly. please help!

So I flashed CM7 on my D2G and after the reboot I tried to boot into my clockworkmod recovery to wipe the data so the bootloop would end, but when i hold power/x I get the little android guy with the exclamation point in a triangle above him but when i press the magnifier/search button nothing happens. I know that all I need to do to make the rom work is wipe my data. so how would I go about doing that without having to reflash with sbf and everything? is there a way to fix my clockwork mod? or another way to erase my data?
First, you cannot enter CWM like that.
Power + X takes you to the stock recovery; on 4.5.x, you need to press the volume buttons together to enter it, not the hardware keyboard's Search button.

I know that this is anancient thread, but i decided to take a crack at mt D2G today and successfully rooted it and was able to get to the bootstrap recovery, but after installing the cm7 and gapps, the darn thing is just stuck at the red m screen indefinitely. I let it sit there for about 5 min, and to avoid having my battery die, i pulled it and started reading. I really dont wanna sbf it (if i really dont have to) and i need to get to clockwork recovery. Any suggestions?

only thing fishy is how verizon/motorola changed the unlock codes, so that some d2gs can not be unlocked, most still can be unlocked, there is atleast 3 different code generating algorithms, you may need to try all 3, but the 1st one works for most

all 3 of these should work, if first code does not work, only retry it 1 more time, then request a different code or a refund.
you have a limited number of tries before you get locked out, so don't waste them on a code that doesn't work

[Q] Help ASAP! Might have bricked Galaxy S3

Hey I'm pretty new to rooting, and I think I might have seriously f'd this one up.
I actually did the root just fine, no troubles with that. I just ran something called saferoot, verified the root and actually made a backup with Titanium (on my PC now). After that, I used an app EZ-Unlock which told me my bootloader was successfully unlocked.
Now comes the rough part. I got ROM Manager and used it to install ClockWork Mod. I hit "Make backup with CWM" it shut down my phone, and now I can't get it to boot at all.
I could really use some help ASAP here, I need the phone. Thanks guys

Yeah the s2 should be fine....should be but read up. The Verizon s3, specifically the 4.3 ota is the problem. They locked it down real good. Anything before the 4.3 ota would've been fine. Sorry
Watch, as I combine all the juice from my mind...
Thanks man. I found an explanation of how to do it online so I thought it was gonna work, but I guess not everyone can be trusted. Read through a tutorial on the cyanogen mod wiki for the S2, seems like it'll be fine.
That debrick fix isn't working...I have a year insurance on this, am I better off throwing this at the wall? Getting a replacement without them knowing it was being changed?

Roms.. seems like s7 has been lost in history

I get that we had to fight for root tooth and nail for awhile .
But can anyone explain why we have had 1 rom based off stock since root.
Surely some old devs...must own this phone what's the culprit behind the lack of care to make the phone awesome with mods and roms. Is it the lack of dev users or is it software issues can we not build them with the customer engineer bootloader they we root with is it a kernel issue or twrp issue ?

Simple answer is, our bootloader is locked. Not really that much you can do with it. If you look, there are quite a few ROMS for s7's that have an unlocked bootloader (Exynos).
Exactly, look at it this way... would you develop for a phone that is extremely limited and doesn't even have a custom recovery? or would you develop on a phone that a custom recovery, unlocked bootloader, no limitations and a ton of activity in the forums?
---------- Post added at 05:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:46 PM ----------
I'm trapped with this phone too and nextime I'm going to get the exynos version, never again will I waste my time with this Qualcomm ****... It's slower than the exynos on top of it.
how discouraging. im a bit behind the times. just came off of a SM-G900P ..with RRremix using Nouget.....thought this was a good step up for me just to find out that i cant root this damn thing??! major let down for sure. cant even get Substratum to work as good as it did on my s5.

This is basically the one way and the version you'll see posted here. It does make the phone a little unstable, takes a hit with battery, and changes kernel tables....takes some extra codes/apps to make it some what usable.
