Probably 4-6 months. I saw an article where the reporter reached out to Samsung about updates, and they said they would seek to update their devices as possible. I personally think Google's push to make it available on Nexus and Motorola Xoom will force other manufacturers to provide Jelly Bean quickly if they want to sell their devices in the future.
It's not entirely a new huge platform jump of Android(Like Gingerbread to ICS) so it might not take that much time to update. A preview build was given to GN users OTA which is a good sign. I do look forward at the these features though:
Project Butter
Android 4.0 was a major upgrade from 2.3 Gingerbread, bringing a whole new interface and speed improvements. Jelly Bean improves on that, with something Google is calling “Project Butter.” This helps make the whole OS feel 100x faster and smoother, running at an insane 60 FPS.
Home screen customization has also been improved. Widgets will now wrap around the space available to them, so you won’t need to go through the hassle process of moving around icons and widgets.
Offline Voice Dictation
Google has not only made more improvements to the keyboard in Android 4.1 JB, but they’ve also brought offline voice dictation. This means that you won’t need a network connection in order to use voice dictation anymore, unlike Siri voice dictation, which needs a constant connection. Unfortunately, this feature is currently only available in US English, but Google promises that more language support will be coming soon.
The keyboard has also made other vast improvements in predictive text input, meaning that the keyboard thinks about what you are going to type before you even type it.
Notifications
In Android 4.0 ICS, we received the ability to view our notifications from our lockscreen, and access an app right through them. Android 4.1 JB takes this even farther, and allows you to do an action without even accessing the app, all from your notifications window pane.
For example, if someone calls you and you miss it, a notification obviously appears. When you swipe down, you can immediately choose to call the person back, or you can message them if you’d like, all directly from your notification window pane. If you’re currently calling someone and decide to hang up, you can just drag the notification window pane down and end the call from right there. Simple and Easy.
Google has also improved the way Social Networks and 3rd-Party apps are integrated with notifications. If you receive a Google+ photo, you’ll see a preview right from the lockscreen, without even having to access the Google+ app. You can comment and +1 on the photo right from your notification window pane, and quickly get back to what you were doing before.
3rd party developers also have great new features that they can integrate into their apps. Pulse, a popular social news reader, has the ability to show you the days’s top news-just by swiping the notification.
Now hold on a sec, once we get the Ics sources we should be able to port aosp jb to GT+ ain't I right?

I'm going to just come out and say it, JB will probably not happen on the 7+, look at how long it took them to give us ICS with them already having released an ICS tablet almost identical to ours months ago. maybe the tab 2 will get it. But who knows maybe they will screw them too and make a tab 3.
im thinking 90% most likely officially won't ever happen, which is why i'm dropping samsung for the nexus 7

just read that Flash is not supported in JellyBean. Flash Player will be removed from the store August 15th. If you already have it, you will get minor fixes/updates/etc.
Sure I agree flash is old, outdated and a hog. I think they should keep it though.

From what I understand, Flash is only unsupported in the Chrome browser, but you should still be able to use it for other browsers like Dolphin.

I'm in the same boat; but regardless I've bought my last Samsung product. Either I learn to deal with the cloud and no microSD storage, or I wait for someone else to come out with a similar product (maybe a 7.7 screen like the upcoming Toshiba Excite).
But no more Samsung.

I agree. Higher Res, twice the cores, and JB. I placed my order for the 16gb model. Ill miss the SD, but I think I'll be happy. But I won't sell my 7+ just yet.
If you're gonna talk about specs, Nexus S has a worst one than ours and yet it will receive the JB update. Since our device is very similar to the Galaxy SII, which is sure to get JB(I think), then we will too. It's a matter of patience again because of the lack of interest on our devices.

Nexus= google experience devices. Big difference.
I'm wondering what CrisisCore meant by this being a better tablet than the Nexus if we get ICS? In terms of specs, it's lower resolution and last-gen processor. Sure, it's got microSD and back camera, but really it's hard to argue with speed and resolution. On top of that, there will be far more development on that tablet due to a larger user-base (understatement of the year...). But I'm new to this device, so I'm curious if you know something I'm missing?

Precisely. "The Cloud" is an interesting concept but unless you have an avenue to connect anywhere at anytime (3/4G + WiFi) it's not as useful as one would desire.
No uSD will most always be a deal-breaker for me.
It'll take a long time. Remember FroYo to Gingerbread on the Galaxy S I series??

Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
If they're based on the same hardware (and everything I have read so far indicates they are) what does it matter? Even if the ROMs from the Google edition of the S4 don't work direct, they almost certainly will with a bit of tinkering and that will be done by people on here. The upshot is we don't need Samsung or Google to release firmware to change the I9505 into the Google edition of the phone.
Besides, neither company would do this anyway, and a petition won't change that.

You've clearly never experienced the determination of people on xda, who will go out of their way to create a ROM for users, especially on the Samsung Galaxy S2 (my last phone). CyanogenMod was continuously maintained and it was AOSP based, very similar to that of a stock Android ROM. The hardware seems very similar to the current GS4's anyway, I'm sure you will see a working stock ROM within days of the Google edition being released. Also, a petition won't make Google or Samsung release the ROM.

Absolutely not. I'm simply highlighting the flaws. The petition won't make Google or Samsung release the ROM, it was the same with Samsung on the gs2, they wouldn't release the source code for the exynos 4 processor, even after multiple petitions. And also, when the GE is released, you will see a working ROM for the i9505 and i9500 quickly after that, plus CM10.1 is already on both devices.

The I9505 yes, as it's the same hardware from all reports. But I wouldn't bet on seeing a working rom off the Google S4 for the I9500 any time soon as the heart of that phone is based upon a completely different architecture. And CM10.1 isn't on the I9500 at all as of yet, nowhere near.

It's been ported to a Snapdragon processor so I figure that opens at least some opportunity for a port to the U.S S3. Just wondering if it was possible.
Cool will see
My guess would be no, but who knows. I know things like hardware files, libs, kernel, etc. Would have to be worked on because that is a quad core processor. Our US S3's are only dual core.
It would be easier to port to a US S4, since the hardware is the same.

If you have read both articles it is meant for the s4 so no it won't be on our phones. It takes way more time and skills to port a quad core optimized 4.3 to a dual core device for that the devs should get paid for the time spent. It makes sense for the devs to spend what little free time they have on a 4.1.2 Touchwiz and 4.2.2 stock Android made especially for our device.
Why wait for a port of 4.3 when the actual source comes out it will be better. Not a big rush to get 4.3 not much a different

No as no one wants to crow bar firmware meant for a higher end version of the phone.
Samsung is pushing wearable devices (e.g. its Smartwatch) which uses Bluetooth's new low-powered features in Android 4.3. Because the Smartwatch requires being connected to one's phone for optimal use, can we assume that Samsung will want to release a 4.3 version of Touchwiz for the Galaxy S3?

Personally, I have yet to find a 4.3 ROM/Kernel combination where I can get all of the features I want.
1. Photosphere camera that doesn't FC. Either FFC or FFVC always locks me up. I have a 4 year old daughter and I can't be messing around with reboots if I need to cath her doing something silly.
2. Group SMS. (PAC ROM has this, but I haven't seen any others.) I am not interested in GoSMS or Handsent.
TW gives me the Samsung Camera, and I can install the Photosphere camera and use with no issues.
TW gives me reliable Group SMS.
If you know of a 4.3 ROM/Kernel combination that will allow me to use ALL features of the Photophere enabled camera, please advise me.
If haven't already I suggest giving this a look.

Wake up and smell the coffee! Google is done with the huge monolithic OS updates that it once used to be known for.
Google is taking the approach of defragging the entire ecosystem by utilizing Google Play Services. Nearly EVERY SINGLE android device out there from 2.2 runs this service/application and is in total control by Google and no one else since it's closed source. It has become the core of Android now. They are focusing on applications now, forget the OS - this is the future. For all the whiners - it's the applications that make the device a great experience. The OS just provides the underlying layer, and Google has provided a rock solid one - it's done.
Seeing as how they stated that they want to support devices in land scape and portrait maybe they will come up with something to replace the nav bar, with something like pie controls.

Well I don't really think that 4.4 KitKat will be the next version of android. I don't know why but it just doesn't sound right. I mean all these hints from Google about klp for nothing? If you remember a Google employee had posted a picture of android eating klp which actually "confirmed" klp as the next version of android for me. It could be a marketing trick, like they show kitkat and then release 5.0 KLP . It could be a small "lie" from Google so that it keeps us thinking that they release 4.4 and then, boum they release 5.0. I could be wrong but I don't think 4.4 will be next version of android if you think how many android versions 4+ has supported (4.0, 4.1, 4.1.2, 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.3, and now 4.4???) All other android version numbers were supporting no more than two versions of android (1.5, 2.0, 2.2, 3.0,) Also I don't think Google would use a copyrighted name as their next version of android. Like I said, this could be a "trick" from Google or I could be totally wrong

what's the big deal with lollipop ... it looks nasty, nothing really new ... the notification cards (to copy apple! ... and btw, why would you want notifications on you lockscreen so that everyone sees them ) .... and other updated apps will be ported or will work by default ... the rest is useless, or ... if we check the latest google upgrades ... are crap!

Are you joking? Native ART support without Dalvik, a fresh new UI, better battery usage, new security options...

Please go to an Apple fan page. Its all about android. IOS has features in 2014 which android had back in 2012. And please do not compare a buffalo with a rabbit.
I'm really hoping Samsung will skip 4.4.4 and just get on with Android L. That would probably mean a faster roll-out(I think?). Anyone still don't have news about a new UI? I know it's highly improbably though
Cant see it taking too long due to the new material design touchwiz will almost be non existant (thank god) So all samsung really need to do is port spen features and sammy apps. I cant wait to see art finally in action it made such a huge difference on my old s3.
