[Q] Does Netflix work on CM 9/10? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Howdy guys,
I'm curious if anyone knows whether Netflix works on the Xoom using CM9 or 10. I ask because I own an Atrix which seems to be remarkably similar hardware, and I know the CM9 and presumably 10 roms will not playback Netflix video due to Nvidia not releasing the necessary drivers. Because of that I keep it on CM 7. Since they're both Tegra 2, well....? I'm ready to flash over the stock ICS rom, but if that means losing Netflix I might have to reconsider. Would that also mean no hardware video acceleration as well?
I've searched high and low and found one post that suggested someone was running Netflix fine, but I couldn't infer which specific rom he was using. Any thoughts, folks?

Try the MY rom and i bet you will not try another rom,No streaming media apk is rejected..

Thanks for the tip--always meant to try some different roms. I did go ahead and flash CM10 since I already had it downloaded and I'm pleased to report that Netflix does in fact run fine. Makes me wonder why jokersax's Atrix build doesn't run it, though I haven't tested the later versions. Well, it runs but there is just a black screen when video should be playing.

Netflixs app on the Bravo

Anyone try to get the app working on our phone? I loaded it and tried to change the build file to the HTC Vision but the app wouldnt let me stream any video.
I tried the same but didn't work... Might be sometime with blur preventing from Netflix actually identifying it as an HTC... maybe I'm completely wrong but I tried both the leaked netflix app that came out a while ago and the newest one with no luck. What I did notice was when i edited the build prop, when i went into the marketplace it would actually find the netflix app but when i changed it back to show as a Moto Bravo it would no longer show it in the marketplace
The Netflix app is NOT compatible with the stock Bravo. Bandroid said there was a way around this, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
Netflix
If you have CM7 or CM9 the netflix app works with no problems now. I think by now it should work with our stock rom but I haven't tried it.

Sadly its not working on cm9 now with the new video drivers for making work full hardware acceleration on our phones (defy, bravo, milestone and more)
Lets hope that devs take problem and solve it.

Well if you do remember CM9 hasen't been the most friendly rom for our little Bravo to begin with. That's why i've just stuck with one of the early CM7's. It's probably had vast improvements since the one I installed but it is a trooper. Has force feeding Netflix been tried yet or marking it as a system app?

Its not yet perfect, not friendly even for defy users, but our phone have a great potencial to do many things possible. As you know if our phone would not have that locked bootloader, it was just like some other new phone, thanks to the great procesor it has.
But despite locked boot, the phone is now working really great, it just need some tweaks or something to run a little bit faster, but now everything is working really great, I love the rom now, I hope devs make it a little bit faster before going to JB, but I think it will because with every new nightly the rom is smoother and thats why now Im using it alredy as my primary rom.
I recomend you now to install it again, I hope netflix works sometime in the future, my netflix account has some problems, when it is ready Im going to install multiboot manager to use GB to see it.

BootManager

I saw this app in a thread and the Thunderbolt is supported, it looks amazing, especially if you are constantly switching between roms like me, but I was wondering if anyone has tried it, and how well it work. Here is the thread i saw it on. http://goo.gl/fb/8fU4D
This is interesting. I would love to have a proper working rom while testing out others running from microSD.
Second that, asking if anyone has used it?
To me it doesn't seem all that practical.
I would just have my backup from my stable rom and flash the new rom. If I ever need stability I would just go to the back up file.
You can't really test a new rom running off of an SD card because you won't know if the glitches are in the rom or from this app.
Based on that link and all the comments it looks legit but I'm still hesitant to buy it without first trying it or seeing a video of it. If anyone here gets it could they please record and post a video on youtube to demonstrate how it works?
Boot manager is great i have been using it for several months now

[Q] Choppy video playback with TMobile G2 and Andromadus ROM?

Hi all.
I can't post this to the dev forums yet since I'm a new user, so trying here.
I have a Tmobile G2 running kernel version 2.6.35.14-Flinny-V2-gef05671, currenty on Andromadus version Alpha11.
Since Alpha 9, I'm having serious playback problems with any video I captured with the camera prior to switching to this ROM line. Prior I was running CM7 with no issues recording/playing back videos with either the stock player, or DICE player.
Is anyone else having these problems? It's killing me! Last night I tried the new beta VLC player, and it's a tad better, but still basically unplayable.
Perhaps it was my process of installing the ROM? I used SuperWipe, then installed the ROM.
Anyone else had this issue, or have a suggestion of how to fix it?
Much thanks.
Well it seems to be a common thing across several ICS ROMs right now. I guess hardware acceleration is still a WIP

Currently what doesn't work properly in ICS?

I've looked through many ICS threads and they have become so big that it's almost impossible for a new user to research on the current state of its development. Can those who have been up to dates with the latest ICS builds tell me what currently does not work very well on ICS?

The short answer is video hw encoding/decoding
That means you won't have hw codec and camera will not work properly in some apps. To be honest, the only app I have problem with is gtalk.
Also, ICS roms are not as stable as GB, so you might come up with problems like phone not responding or random reboots or something else. Personally I don't have many issues like that but they are possible as all phones are different, you better be aware of the fact that ICS roms may not work as you imagine. However, it's probably worth a try
If you are a speed freak don't flash ics,I personally tried ics even on galaxy nexus and its buggy.I think its virtually too new even for the people who "wait".Our excellent devs have enhance the experience but still has issues with browsing, transitions,Sometimes having to press same icon repeatly to click on it.HW Is important in all those aspects.
MX video player fixes watching videos somewhat,YouTube works but I say stick with Cm,miui. Hopefully it wont be long before LG launches its rollout to the 2x.Supposely in 2nd quarter so sometime between now and july. From there it makes development on ics easier. If I help hit Thanks

ICS ROM Camcorder Issues

Quick question, I don't know if anyone here would be able to answer, or if this is a dumb question, but with official ICS on our phone, what is breaking the camcorder on many of the ICS roms? Is it a kernal issue, or something more in depth?
When "vanilla" AOSP (CM9) or AOKP ROMs are ported over, there are no drivers to make the hardware work with the ROMs. I think the drivers are hacked. So often some hardware does not work. Hacking drivers to make them work is a time consuming process. If/when HTC released the kernel source code, it may help (I'm not sure).
That's my non-developer understanding of the issue.
In the CM9 thread theres a link to "Camcorder.zip" that you can flash after installing Alpha 4 that enables your camcorder. It "sometimes" corrupts the video, but 8 times out of 10 it will work, and records in 720p and SD modes.
Not a perfect fix, but it's something. Probably works with AOKP too but haven't tried it yet.
Thanks for the feedback guys, it reminded me that HTC is pretty bad about releasing source... I've been using samsung products for so long that I had forgotten it was still an issue but unfortunately my infuse broke recently so I bought a one x from someone in the mp. Hopefully I'll get my infuse replaced and have a backup!
so essentially the kernal is still closed source, which is understandable now why there are still some hardware issues.
