I have been using this build for quite a while now and decided to write a review of the ROM. Please keep in mind I am not a developer !!! I am simply writing this from a user standpoint and cannot nor will not support your problems. This is a review based on my opinions and usage of the ROM.
Pros:
I do like the UI. It is fairly stable and I haven't had much trouble out of it for the most part. The combination of ADW Launcher and the Cyanogen settings are great. The speed of the ROM is pretty good for a ported ROM based on GingerBread. I can't complain much about that. General things that I like are the advanced menus for customizing the dock and theme settings. The themed settings change icons for contacts, mail, messaging, phone, browser, calendar, and videos ( I may have missed some). The cyanogen settings cover an array of things that you can poke at but in my opinion should be included with stock builds as well. Overall if you were wanting to use this on a daily basis I think you would be ok to go ahead and install this ROM... NOTE: Don't hold me responsible if you brick your phone trying. It isn't one of the easiest roms I've
ever installed. The sleep policy has been fixed so that the phone doesn't reboot on unlock...which on my first flash hadn't been fixed and really really turned me off from this ROM.
Cons: I have yet to figure out why this is (again not a dev) but your microSD card will not mount when connected to the pc. I'm sure they are working on this but I haven't downloaded an update or nightly (which is current at the time of this post btw) that has fixed it. I do have some random picky things that I can't get an answer to, and good luck if you do...feel free to send them to me also. Some of my .mp3 ringtones will not work period. Different ones of even larger file size work... I'm not sure how that works out. Text messaging (native) doesn't work for incoming or outgoing... But I will say that I was having issues with that before so I can't blame that on this ROM. There are a few apps that won't work with this build easy uninstaller is one, I just get a fc. Battery is another issue that may be addressed with future releases. I don't run GPS (so don't ask if it's accurate) but keep wifi on all the time. I get probably about 8 hours with wifi on all the time. Not the best but definitely not the worst. You also cannot charge the phone while it is off... really not sure why, and the extended power menu doesn't work. And for the most part is an in depth install procedure... Back to stock with odin, flash two kernals, then a couple of files... Pretty lengthy and you have to be precise or else it bricks. Here it is if your interested... Thanks to MobileTechVideos for the instructions and video.
How to install CyanogenMod7
Other than that I have had virtually no problems (that I consider major) with this ROM and do like it and will probably continue to use it. If you have any general questions please feel free to ask. Again, again... I am not a dev so questions of that nature should be posted here: CyanogenMod7
I tried it and liked what works but it is still alpha quality and so i will wait for a few weeks until i give it another shot.

I agree, it is definitely still a beta build and as noted by Cyanogen... hasn't been put into the stable build section of their forums. I do look forward to a stable build. Perhaps the Dev's can address some of the weird issues that I mentioned above.
i also was not able to send multi media mms never would go through i tried for 20 mins to receive and send ,
this rom is great but here is why it sucks, i watch the cyanogen nightlies for the galaxy s phones, and with the types of updates im seeing on the cappy versus lets say the vibrant , there is no ****ing hope and this rom is dead.
the last update fixed an install file wtf. so at this rate cyanogen will be rc in o id say next year. ill have a new phone by then. my money is on miui

Well you completely forgot to mention that, currently it cannot handle lots of video format, most importantly mkv and even if you find something like Rock Player, there's a lot of lag in it. You cannot charge the phone while its off (because it'll turn on as soon as you plug the charger in). Also, you might encounter a totally new problem which you may not have an idea about. If captivate is your spare phone then play with it else stay away for a while until a RC is released.
This is just my opinion from 3 days of experience on CM7.

It was a total flop for me :/
It ran well when I first installed it, but started running "funny" (random crashing) after I installed gapps, then totally started crapping out after the 3/16 update.
I ended up ditching it for a 2.2 rom, mostly because I didn't feel I was gaining anything substantive and losing things I regularly use, like a feature rich camera app and divx playback support.
Been running for 3 days. 0 problems.
I've ran into a few bugs. External SD, booting when usb plugged in. Only charging to 95% (apparently a feature not a bug). At one point my signal shot down to searching, then it recovered and grabbed a signal. Not sure what caused that, but it was random.
I also cannot get it to mount to my PC. Kind of annoying, but if I need to transfer anything I just use dropbox.
I like it, and I think I'll keep with it. Even though it isn't 100%, I love gingerbread, and it's working for me.

I did forget that you cannot charge the phone while off and now that you mention it the extended power menu doesn't work either. It is fairly aggravating that Cyanogen updates the vibrant with "real" fixes other than this fixing little things but... All in all, it is still usable, just not stable or reliable.
Every time I try and warn someone that CM7 is not yet ready for primetime I get bashed for it, yet there seem to be plenty of people echoing my comments. Like I said in another thread, the people that are saying CM7 is stable and works great are either not using their device to its full potential or are willing to live without certain features. There is really no compelling reason to live with a ROM that has this many bugs or deficiencies when you consider how many really good ROMs there are available for our Cappys that have few, if any, issues. Yeah, they may not have Gingerbready theming or cutesy animations, but they just work. Andromeda 1.2 is one that comes to mind.
I am on it from I think last friday...Not a single problem...atleast how i use it...of course except battery life...which I am trying to solve...
Rock player worked well for me...I watched couple of movies when I was on road....never lagged just stopped couple of times....
great GPS...instant locks...i am amazed...But I also tried MIUI...and it is very very fast...and something different which I never experienced before...I think people should give it a try...ofcourse it has bugs too as it based on CM7...but they fixed camera bug and little stuff.....

I am by no means saying that it is ready for the masses... The only one that I would suggest without a second thought to someone who isn't willing to deal with at least some problems is Cognition Series by DesignGears. To my knowledge (and opinion) this is the absolute best rom for the captivate. IF ... Cyanogen gets to the point of a Cognition rom in function and use, then I might suggest it for the masses but not until then.

Your right in regard to it not being ready for most users (many are already praising the miui 2.3.3 also which is even less stable.....not saying it isn't promising). I think it breaks into 2 camps.
1. If you are a power user that wants all aspects of your device to function as intended...not for you. More specifically, If you use an external SD especially if your moving files to and from mounted to a PC....this is not the rom for you (this is my biggest gripe at this point). If you do lots of video in different formats...not for you as you will face compatibility issues. If you have to ask how your flash back to stock....this is probably not for you. If you value battery life as a top priority...not yet for you. Most of the other deficiencies or shortcomings had adequate work arounds but you until the major issues are resolved you will quickly find yourself flashing back to Phoenix, Firefly, Serendipity, Andromeda, etc.)
2. If you don't use and external SD and/or do much media vid/music then i can see why many view this as "stable" for their purposes. The UI, menus, and animations are smooth/fast and i never really had any issues with force closes while using it. Maybe its better linguistically to say its incomplete rather than refer to is as unstable and sorry if it offends the early adopters but if you are using it as your daily driver its pretty obvious you are using an inferior rom @ this point.

i would easily put a handful of roms on par with cognition:
Firefly, Supernova, Phoenix, Serendipity, Andromeda.

Excellent post.
Glad to see users sharing their experience on CM7. This is always good foe the community. I hope to see new users to read this thread prior to making any decision whether to flash CM7 2.3.3 or not.
On another note, I'm sure once Samsung do final release of Gingerbread 2.3.3 for i9000 series (last I heard that an early beta was released), we cappyites will see stable release.

Regarding the phone turning on when charging, I believe it's a gingerbread "feature". It's been said that it is working as intended. Also, the iphone does the same thing so I don't really see it as an issue. It's probably google seeing behavior they like and implementing it.
You can not mount the external sd but you can transfer to your internal then on the phone transfer to external, so I am not certain it Is fair to say you can not use your external sd. Video is an issue, and battery is as well.
At this point in time it is a trade off, there are several things cm7 can't do well or can not do at all. there are also several things it does much better than any 2.2 rom or are not available on 2.2 roms.
Its all preference and priorities. Kinda like any best rom discussion.

Largely it its because you have never used it, and have only tried one rom. That and you are compelled to jump on any thread that mentions it as if it is a personal mission. It its not as if you do not make some valid points, but it is not hard to see why it may rub some the wrong way after a while.
This is not an attempt to start something, but your comments make it seem like there is no warrant to people who go back at you.

Agreed... I was not trying to start a thread to bash any rom. However I do know that there are some hard feelings that are out based on certain features that work or don't and peoples impressions about the ROM itself. I also know that there is quite a bit of loyalty to certain ROM creators that no matter what they aren't going to be going to a new ROM simply because they are loyal to that dev... which is fine! I simply wanted to create an avenue for people who have used the ROM to pass along information and opinions on the ROM to people who are thinking about switching to it. People are entitled to their opinions and I am all for that... Just don't bash any of the devs or their work, it is not easy putting this stuff together and I for one am happy that I have a place I can go to that allows me to get away from stock. I hope that all will realize that

The terminology might be better as incomplete instead of unstable. great post.
As an Android n00b, I'm really intrigued by all the custom ROM options that are available for the Sensation, and I've tried a few. However, I keep going back to stock after realizing that some feature that I rely on doesn't work properly (location, MMS, recording video, wifi calling, etc.). After reading numerous threads it occurred to me that I might be getting in on these ROMs while they are still in experimental stages. Is there a way that I can avoid this? What should I be looking for? ROMs labeled 1.0, 2.0, etc.? Is the Sensation just too new of a device to have lots of stable ROMs to choose from where everything works?
Basically I feel lost when I look at the sea of ROMs all claiming to be stable, perfect, and fast. How do I find one that actually is?
Also, I've always been curious about a ROM being available through ROM Manager...does that say anything about its reliability?
There are loads of ROMS available, its mainly a task of looking at a ROM and then reading the spiel in the first 3 or 4 posts, this will usually tell you what the developers opinion of the ROM is, final, beta, 75% etc..
Im using Virtuous ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408351)
everything works with a few minor issues, No Caller ID on lock screen, HDR photo dont work. Other than that its ace.
Its really suck it and see tbh you have to choose, Sense (yuk in my opinion) or Senseless just make a full backup before you flash anything new, that way if you dont like it you just flash back to the one before.
I have never used rom manager. Some devices actually mess up because of flashing a rom through it. Your best bet is to read, a lot. Go through the thread and see what people are saying about it. If everyone complains about issues, chances are you will have them too. Also, read the changelog to see what has been fixed or what issues the rom has.

If you are looking for the most stable custom ROMs, Check out the ones based on Gingerbread like Android Revolution HD or Energy ROM

The only one you can ever complain about it the stock one that came with the phone. All the others are a gamble that give speed/battery/UI/perfume/... All the custom ROMs have attributes that are good and attributes that are bad. TBH though that's the same as the phone's shipped ROM be it Android, iOS or.... Just a different perception.
All the ICS ROMs are based on leaked phone ROMs and therefore unstable by nature. GB has much more stable ROMs due to its maturity but it's now old hat.
Hey though, if you're on XDA you're looking for change/fun/a challenge though. Otherwise you'd be in the phone shop.
Android Revolution HD with beats audio works smart....
i am also new and this is my first rom flash and i must say i will keep on doing it with every phone i get. this rom is awsome no lag in any games anymore browsing is faster sound is sweet. my wife has the same phone but she scared to let me flash it but she is jelous about mine

Been using Cyanogenmod for a week now. Very dissapointed in the fact that my bluetooth audio sounds like AM radio. Also I get extremely bad echo during calls. Tried CM10 and 10.1. Both have the bluetooh issues.
Sure its a little bit faster. But, I rooted and installed a custom rom in hopes to IMPROVE me phone experience and I got just to opposite.
I'm considering going back to the rooted stock rom but I can't seem to find the link to the original latest verizon rooted rom. I didn't make a backup. Can anybody help me locating it?
On another note, I'm willing to try another custom rom if someone can vouch for it and ensure that there are no major bugs like CM10.
Should've bought an iPhone o_o but really the developers spend there personal time making these roms not for money but for us and themselves so if you're "disappointed" in them then make your own or try others, read threads and find out bugs before you flash.

Don't use bluetooth so can really comment about it, however there are some great touchwiz roms in the Android Development section I stay away from the Original Android Development just because I have found too many issues.
As for some suggestions Synergy is pretty cutting edge though you may have to play with voltages if you install ziggy's kernal. Clean rom is another nice option. Hyperdrive and Delta have also run solid for me. Currently running Beans 12 and it is almost everything I can ask for, if a 5x6 launcher were included it would be perfection for me.
I would say to install twrp as your recovery, if you haven't done so, and install a rom and run it for a few days and see how it handles. Make a backup, twrp lets you rename them so you can easily restore to your favorite rom, and install something else for a few days. Also you may want to try different kernels as well, KT runs good for me but there are many more to choose from.
Finally just remember that each user runs different apps and has different needs and that while we all hqve the same phone minor variatikns n hardaware and just the way the rom flashes can have different effects such as bluetooth audio interferance or poor battery life or app abc will not work for one person but another has none of tjese problems.
Good luck and just remember that the perfect rom is out there waiting for you. You just need to flash like a madman until you find it.
Check out mastamoon's CM 10.1 rom. His latest 2-28 rom is near perfect. BT audio sounds great, signal handoff isn't as good as TW, but it's good enough as a daily driver. I've had little problems with it, to the point i don't even notice it. Try that and your mind will change.

A. If you have issues with a ROM either post in the ROMs thread or in the Q&A section. Not start a thread in General bashing a ROM developers spent countless hours on. Just a respect thing.
B. Go to original development look for yourself, see what has features you like.
At this point, my phone is just one big tweak.
I'm sorry you're getting echo in calls and problems with BT. Would probably be solvable if you had asked since echo has been fixed for a long time.

I think its funny, this guy has a valid complaint about how CM 10 is making his Bluetooth sound bad, and weather it's true or not, members just bash the $hit out of him, lol.
To the OP, if you don't like the ROM or something is glitchy, I've done two things in the past when I've experienced this.
1. make a backup (I use my backup root), and then boot into recovery, wipe (cache, davlik, system, and Format), then reflash your ROM.. OR
2. Find a new ROM and try that out. Currently I'm running the latest CleanRom with Morphology 1.5, and Ac!d audio..I have no issues with sound or bluetooth.
I hope that helps man, good luck and remember. Keep Calm and Flash Roms.
There are at least two threads where a total noob can seek help to fix the two issues he has, and one more where he can read how to fix his issues. Perhaps there are better ways to address his concerns?

To the OP I say I hope you find a solution to your problem. Keep flashing and find what you need brother. To everyone else I am pretty new to this particular medium (xda forums) but looking at almost every topic I've seen I gather one very singular feeling. Please xda take away the "post new topic" option. Its pretty obvious that every single question that can possibly be asked has already been answered. So why ask any question. They are apparently evil and the world wide web has only limited space so lets please not clog it by asking a question twice *gasp*. There is a section for every device and build for developers only that by all means should be kept as streamlined and clutter free as possible but in general forum questions should not be so vehemently discouraged.

I am also disappointed in the CM rom's performance...but I think the blame (for my issues, at least) resides totally with Samsung.
The rom itself works great, but when you're in the middle of a town and everyone else in the restaurant has 4g and you've only got 1x (not even 3g)...well...that's an issue.
Wish they would release the friggin RIL so I could just stick with a 4.2 rom. Grrrr!

This happens when you flash multiple roms apparently. I got my phone working and commenced to do everything to flash back to CM 10.1. I noticed I can make calls however, my 3g data will not come up. So, I have flashed back to stock and everything works fine. Anyone know of a tip that might resolve this issue. I was using the nightly from yesterday.

Grrrr!

Me too, my only real issues with CM (or any non-TW ROM) stem from the fact that the radio interface has not been released by Samsung and therefore the reverse-engineered AOSP RIL will probably never be as good as stock. It's not limited to signal strength issues, you also can't take full advantage of the phone's World Phone capabilities with a non-Touchwiz ROM. Unfortunately for me, that's a deal-breaker, my phone needs to work as a phone first and foremost and if Touchwiz ROMs have a better and more functional radio, I have to stick with that.
I have been using the latest nightlies of Cm and they have been running great. phone works great except in some areas where I can't get a signal with TW roms either.
I had CM running on my Dinc2. Since getting the S3, I've been running CleanROM with mods. (when I was on CR5.6 I was using KindaCrap Mods and now that I'm on CR 6.0 I"m using Andy Bones' AOSP Theme, which gives it a lot of the feel of CM).
Does anyone know of a website or youtube channel that does reviews for the S3 ROM for Verizon? I hate downloading buggy ROMs so it would save me some headaches.
Did you try the ROM threads here?

ROM thread? You mean the section with all the ROMS in it that has Stars next to the thread title? I've been in that thread and it doesn't seem like a well organized place to find something stable. The information is there, but just not well organized.
You won't know if the Rom works for your phone until you tried them. If you can't find a Rom that works well on your phone then I suggest going back to stock. The reason I am saying this is because not everyone here have the same experience with the same Rom.

Thanks for the reply
Id like to help you find a ROM that you like. This phone is so much better running it the way you'd like it to. Are you trying to run a stock based TouchWiz ROM or AOSP? This is very important as not many AOSP ROMs are completely stable. TouchWiz stock based ROMs however are very stable. I would like to suggest my ROM made off of the official ROM for our phones. It offers many very nice features which you can either choose or not choose to use with the Aroma installer. It's the forth release of the ROM so all the bugs have been fixed and the ROM is fast and stable. Please check out the thread to the ROM and read through it and see if you fund it worth trying. The thread offers a lot of good information about exactly what you will find in the ROM.

Thanks man, you are so kind! The only ROM i have ever used is Synergyrom and the last few updates I did with Synergyrom had some bugs in it. I haven't tried the very last patch though. One update gave my bluetooth phone static. This last ROM i am using from Synergy makes Dolphin crash but I'm not sure if it's due to the ROM. My google maps also isn't working either. It works but it only tells me to turn left or right but never gives me the name of the street that I want to turn on.
Anyway, all I really need from the ROM is something that allows Nova Launcher to work, Bluetooth without static, Dolphin without crashing, Google Maps to work by giving me streets names when it talks to me, and the ability to use Amazon Video on Demand. The Amazon thing might be a long shot though but that would be really awesome! I don't play any games on my phone, mainly use it for music and watching movies from youtube or whatever I download. Amazon on demand would be great though!
Edit: One more thing I forgot to add! They keyboard needs to be 1 handed operational. I forgot what it's called but I currently have it on my phone, the keyboard is smaller and moved more to the right so I can operate it with one hand. I also don't know what AOSP is so I really don't need that.
Look on YouTube for a guy name Hobart he does great reviews on most all popular roms.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll check them out.
I personally really like jelly beans. Looks more like aosp but is touchwiz based.

So, I tried all the roms and got 2 of them 2 actually boot up but only without a sd card in the phone no matter how i formatted it.
I noticed some roms are shared by poeple that mentioned they do not even have the pocophone. So how can they possibly test the rom?
Ill make this really easy for you,, stay on the factory rom. Remove the useless apps but becareful because removing some of them will make you go into bootloop and some apps require chrome.
IMO these roms are being made by people that want donations. They dont even care if the rom works..
I noticed people asking questions, usually they do get responses, it might be a day or a week later but often the responses are suggesting that questioneer is stupid and just needs to do more seraching for the answers. Many answers tell you to download a pp or a file but dont provide the link. You have to go out and look for it.
Heres teh big problem with this forum in general. We do not have all week searching through a forum full of fake info, missing info and trolling. The biggest thread to unlock and root thsi phone, has a large array of twrp files to choose from, none of which actually work correctly! Why is that? Yo really think people have time to test these files? Why not post the files that WORK and give detailed instructions fromt he start? If there is an error, update the thread by deleting the apps and files that dont work! However I dont see this going on in this forum. I see a thread where they have well over a thousand people asking questions to just get the phone to root and unlocked! Why? You mean to tell me it takes 0ver 1000 pages of replies to get people to properly root there phone? Something is not right here..
So, my guide is to get you away from the roms, for now, Cause at this time, none of them are stable and the ones that kind of work, do not have the cool capabiliies of the factory app, like call recording and IR camera.
I do have only one rom that works which i can 100% recommend.
It is Oreo 8.1 Miui 10 factory rom.
Install it as a rom in TWRp . Here is the Rom
Now, as for rooting and unlicked and all that jazz... here is MY detailed instructions with CORRECT FILES to get your Pocophone F1 Unlocked, rooted and with TWRP! And you can also check the root afterward!
Maybe Ill get banned... but that is the way of things here.. If you look, you will see a bunch of dudes from India make these roms, which makes you wonder what the reasons for posting these roms are since they dont even have the device!
Bye
even the greatest companies or app developers have beta testers..
how do you think will you be able to enjoy unofficial roms on unsupported devices with TESTING and SHARING your experience ?
I think you're new to internet forums in general, android customisation, and how the xda community works.
First rule in internet forums is to search and read everything you can.
If you read the threads, you will find that maybe some people already talked about some issues. Like the IR Face Unlock. It's already discussed that Xiaomi hasn't released the drivers so it won't work with custom ROM.
Some ROMS are labelled "ALPHA" or "BETA" to let us know what state they're in. The developers also listed the bugs of the ROM. ROM developers also don't have time to test the ROM thoroughly, that's why they interact with us. We can test the ROM and let them know what problems are in the ROM. There is no ROM with zero bugs. Even the stable xiaomi roms have lots of bugs.
The developers are people with real job, they are not full time developers. They do it for free, if the user appreciate them or like their works, they can donate some money. I often see people demanding things from the devs like the devs work for them. You can download and use it for free, nobody forced you to use the ROM so if you use it please appreciate it.
Maybe you're new here and frustrated about unlocking, rooting, flashing, etc. There are a lot to learn about android customisation, and some phone are more difficult than the other. If you don't like it, then don't do it. But I assure you, it's worth your time to learn it and flash a good rom.

I dont enjoy unofficial roms because they do not work!
And to be honest, I dont feel like "testing" anything.
Heres a great idea... Make a rom, test it yourself then offer it for sale for like 25$ and if i can prove it dont work i get a refund..
Until a see a rom that is known to work and has already been thoroughly tested and doesnt have 2000 people posting about it asking how to fix thhis ir that, then ill be sticking with the factory rom..

That's fine, those other 2000 people can help to make an awesome ROM, you can cool your heels and wait....
I've seen an awful lot of bad OEM roms that need updates to fix too... Chances are the custom rom will be fixed a hell of a lot faster...
Wow...

I dont like to take chances..
The phone costed me 300$
You really think people want to take a 300$ chance at ruining their phone?
No!
SO far, the only rom that actually works is the factory rom. Other roms, work not so much, have bad glitches, wont let you use a sd card, etc etc..
Would you like to buy a new truck at full price and "test" it to make it work?
No? didnt think so..
Ill stick with the factory rom till somebody can come up with a rom that actually works..Ill stick with the factory rom because it has features I really need to be honest. Its not a perfect rom. But, it does work! When I say its not perfect I mean, the factory rom does have defects, such as notification issues but be honest this is the ONLY phone that will record phone conversations with out root! The factory ROM is the only ROM that allows call recording. Plus it's dependable it doesnt boot loop like 98% of the ROMs out there.
The ONLY rom that is promosing is the Pixel Experience rom... Except it wont allow the sd card work...\\
Fix the SD card problem in the Pixel Experience rom and add call recorder and lll use it 24/7.. till then the factory ROM must stay.
