Quick question... When using the provided recovery, if problems arise with the ROM, can we use it to flash back to twrp in order to restore a backup, or will we need to use it to start fresh back to a 4.2.2 release?

Good question ... the answer is yes, you can flash your old recovery back to the device with the newer recovery from this thread. Then from there, you can go to your nandroid from your previous ROM.
I'm not sure I'd try to use this recovery to restore a previous CWM backup. Honestly, I haven't tested that to see what would happen.
So for now, here's what I would recommend you do if you want to have a known good backup to revert to ...
1. Take a backup with your current recovery.
2. Flash the new recovery from the OP
3. Reboot to new recovery
4. Flash Alpha1
5. Profit ...
To revert back:
6. Flash your old recovery
7. Reboot to old recovery
8. Format /data, /system and /cache
9. Restore your backup
That should get you back to where you were. It isn't ideal, we know. But right now we wanted to get this build out to you guys - it's been long enough.
For what it's worth, I've been running this as my daily driver for almost three weeks now. The only major issue I've had, and it's really not a big deal, is that Focal doesn't work.
Quick question @car vs driver . . . in the settings I tapped Selinux status and it changed from Permissive to Enforcing. . may I ask what that is for ?
EDIT: for anyone who has this same question read this > http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/SELinux/Tutorials/Permissive_versus_enforcing

It's been only a few minutes but so far so good! I have successfully let google restore my apps and have even tried the Camera app which is working pretty good with the only thing not working is 1080p videos. I have not tried making a call or the new focal app, but great job! I flashed the newer Gapps 8/13 even though I saw the post for the 7/29 just so I could try them and see if it works and so far so good. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the quick response CvD. That process is much more ideal than not being able to flash the older recovery and starting fresh again
Next question, and I hope this will be the first and last time it will need to be discussed here but, should we use this recovery to flash any other 4.3 variant of CM? I hate to ask about other roms in this thread, even if it is somewhat indirectly, but I figured that it will eventually need to be answered at some point, and want to make sure that the source of the recovery is the one to give the answer. Hopefully, being discussed so early in this thread, it will be seen by everyone and won't need to be asked again. (wishful thinking)

I'd say yes, with one caveat ... it should only be used to flash 4.3 ROM's that have the SELinux code in the kernel. That's where the major difference is. Worst case really would be a reboot of doom from what I've seen so far.
---------- Post added at 11:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:21 PM ----------
By the way ... I just want to make sure this gets on the first page as well.
Special thanks to @stoopendis on this one. He bravely tested whatever we threw at him with reckless abandon (even when we were risking bricks). He's our official Team Chopsticks flash-anything-we-ask tester and has been a huge help to us over the past several weeks. Please take a moment to bang the thanks button when you see him.

IMPORTANT: Leave SELinux status in Permissive mode. If you change it to Enforcing, you will get weird crashes. We still have a lot of work to do to get SELinux 100%.

This phone isn't my daily driver, so I only tested a few things, and only slightly:
Known Bugs:
Screen of Death: This is a CM10 bug, many other devices are afflicted, not just the blaze. Many people are working hard to fix this.
UI action sounds may not work at first. Adjust the volume with the volume buttons, the sounds will then work fine. This is a known CM10 bug
BLN is wonky. Working on getting us merged with the stable version native to CM10.
Fixed 20121103+ : WiFi generates a random MAC address with each boot.
Camera: Flash can't be disabled
Camera: Storage location cannot be changed. This isn't really a bug, however if the interest is great enough, I might try and figure out a way to change the system default storage location.
Other things maybe? Discuss in the thread...
How to get it:
Download: http://get.cm/?device=t769 (ChangeLog)
Or download it directly through ROM Manager or CM Updater.
Google Apps:
Make sure to download and install the JellyBean GApps
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
PLEASE MAKE SURE TO DO A FACTORY/DATA RESET BEFORE USING THIS. This isn't up for debate. A reset of the dalvik cache helps too. If you do a dirty flash, please make sure to do a dalvik cache wipe. If you have searched this forum for a problem and haven't found it, please do a nandroid backup, then a full factory/data reset and check to see if you still have the problem. If it still persists AFTER the factory/data reset, then report it here.
Thank You!

For older/legacy/test/unofficial versions of my work, you can find them (for a while at least) here: My Funhouse. Please take care and all necessary steps to verify MD5 sums before installing any zips.

The buttons is a fairly big issue... Figuring out how to get back home is troublesome to say the least. Plus, my zip doesn't have the right drivers baked in... I may re-package and include a link to a zip to enable the soft keys (like on a galaxy nexus), just to get some navigation....
I can't really test calls since this isn't my regular phone. I know the external speaker works because I get sound effects... lemme see about re-packaging. Maybe I'll upload something more tonight.
Otherwise, the front and rear cams work, the rotation is proper.. there are things in the log cat about the compass not working, I'll figure that out soon enough...

No... I'm fairly sure I borked the driver.
Part of the thing I did was to actually forward port the T769 (and I577, need to let those guys know...) changes from the Samsung source releases into the CM kernel proper.

I can tell you that the link I posted was/should be safe. I'm sorry Norton doesn't think so, but a number of others have downloaded and installed the ROM. The md5sum for the zip file is posted on the first page of this thread. If you're concerned, simply download the zip and then verify the md5sum. As long as they match, you should be safe.
Guys I am sorry but didn't mean to offend anyone.

search for "WinMD5", it's a windows based md5 summer. You can put in the file and your expected md5 value, it will tell you the actual value as well as if they match.
It's generally good idea to verify md5 sums just to make sure you don't get bad flashes, especially with Radio's.
Turn off security then download, this ROM working for me, all except touch button
cm10 *****ES
Folks, I uploaded a temporary fix for the nav keys on the first post.
This is to be flashed from CWM ON TOP of an existing CM10 install. It overwrites the kernel, modules, and replaces the build.prop to remove the soft navbar.
This is temporary because I basically used the Samsung released drivers for the hard keys. I need to figure out what the hell I need to do to port into the cm10 version of the driver.
As a consequence of being the stock driver, there's no BLN or other niceties. Just the typical stock behavior. I don't know how this will play with the CM specific key backlight settings.
Enjoy!
If u call that temporary, then dats damn good bro..
CM 10 *****ES!!!!!

You could probably do it if you just pull the kernel and kernel modules... you might be able to get something going that way... you'd have to watch a logcat to figure out which other libraries you'd have to copy in.

Thanks again!
And it begins. Nice job guys. I just received my Nexus 5 so the Rocket is in backup mode for now. I'd be happy to help get this thing up and running by providing some logs. I won't have data anymore but everything else I can troubleshoot. I quick thought. Since ADB now requires a pass key it's hard to get logs from boot on a fresh install. I remember being able to change adb.persist in another phone to let ADB pull logs from boot by bypasssing the authentication key. Is that still possible? This was over a year ago.
I can confirm that long press of the home button doesn't bring up your recent apps list. Presently it only brings up GoogleHome's settings and etc. And I see it wants to think we have the on screen keys enabled. Probably why what I said above is occurring. But besides that short coming. Pretty solid. Hardware keys stopped working after first flash. Rebooted and all was well.
Can't wait to try it. Got a taste of it in my sons Google tab. Runs like a champ. You guys rule.
Sent from my skyrocket running something better than yours! BOOM!
I know top had it booting, but I did not expect this already. Nice!
great news. Thank you very much.

Good work top and the whole team chopsticks crew. Y'all got me to pull out the rocket for the first time since getting my g2 to test this out. It was well worth it. Congrats guys!
Welcome to d2kat!
these will be weekly builds of cm11 by tvall and myself.
there isnt much to be said about these builds execpt for what is broken on CM will be broken here.
any ROM/KitKat related questions can be asked in the Q&A here:

apparently we are starting again. taking post #2
so, this thread is apparently just for my builds. since i already made it clear that i am not committed to actively working on the d2vzw, I'm assuming its to force the other devs into making their own threads for their roms.
quick faq:
I will probably keep building these for a while to keep people satisfied until cm releases official nightlies. no promises though
my builds will be given to cammykool, untested for him to post. I do not own a d2vzw, and cannot afford to go buy one. buy me one, and I'll be able to test and fix things.
my builds will almost always be only cm code, what they have pushed to github and fixes waiting to be merged. I don't feel like fixing bugs myself. the devs that actually own this device can do that, and I'll merge it into my builds as needed.
cammy wants me to push out new builds on a weekly basis. i have no idea why he likes my builds so much, but i can handle weekly or more frequent experimental untested builds
Re-subscribed Thank you, you guys are awesome!!!
Flashing as I type this! Thank you so much!
Thanks!

Seems that Wi-Fi is broken, at least it is for me. This is on a clean flash.

SD card was also still broken for me (I'm thinking it might just be my SD card at this point, I'm gonna try out another one), but everything else seemed to work fine.
I thought in the other thread I saw something about CM11 not flashing with TWRP... confirm/deny with this build?
This rom really needed this fresh new start Also, what is different from this build in the op and the 2013-11-13-unofficial by sspencer? Anything fixed in it that isnt in the sspencer build? Thanks
Gonna need a lot more clarity in the OP or else this thread will be exactly the same as the last one. I'll start by adding instructions:
THESE BUILDS ARE NOT 100% OPERATIONAL.
-They boot, I flashed it last night and everything worked for me (front camera, SD card, WiFi..etc) browser FC'd on me once but that might have been something else.
-You will probably get 2 galleries, not sure why or which one to disable, I didn't get that far.
Flash instructions:
-YOU MUST USE CWM, TWRP IS BROKEN
-Factory reset
-Wipe Dalvik / Cache
-Wipe system
-Wipe Data
-Flash ROM
-Boot up, let it sit for a minute
-Reboot recovery and flash the GAPPs in OP
-Reboot and sign in
-Profit.
These were pretty much the instructions last night, and the ones I followed and everything worked fine for me.

I literally just flashed back to 4.3.1 but I ran this build for the past 3 days including the version from yesterday and today. It is seriously close to being able to be used as a DD. TVall, it seems like you are developing this until CM releases so I thought I'd say what wasn't working for me. I did not have the SD card problem but i know many do. I did have these things not working...
1. Certain apps would not reinstall from the Play Store. When I tried it said USB Storage not found
2. When launching Google+ it says network not found retry. I can view Facebook and other apps that have to get on network just fine.
3. Unable to connect to XDA using tapatalk, although I'm not sure that one is rom related as I am now back on 4.3.1 and it is still hit or miss.
4. Overall seems kinda sluggish and i'm sure that will get ironed out as the rom gets more polished. I don't necessarily mean the OS is sluggish but apps are and opening apps takes a little longer
I will probably flash back later or tomorrow as I already miss the launcher but nothing too serious here for me. Like I said it is extremely close to DD status right now and I really liked the ROM and appreciate all of your hard work.
All in all seemed OK expect WiFi and SD card issue, that's the only things I noticed. And (beepea206) yes that is true about the not flashing it with TWRP.

issue was fixed in twrp 2.6.3.1 or 2.6.3.2, i don't remember. twrp 2.6.3.3 fixed bugs in .1.
at the time of this post, i believe 2.6.3.0 is the most recent build officially available for the d2vzw. this is why i prefer the nexus line

this build is made blindly by me. sspencer actually owns a d2vzw and can test and fix things. all i do is build and upload. his builds will be mostly working usually. mine will be just cm and fixes they make.
Download link not working
The download link for the ROM reads this when clicked:
"The file you are trying to download is no longer available.
This could be due to the following reasons:
The file has been removed because of a ToS/AUP violation.
Invalid URL - the link you are trying to access does not exist
The file has been deleted by the user."
I'm running the 4.4 from the older post before this one and would really like to update considering the front camera currently doesn't work on my ROM and may fix a few things. I've the link on multiple browsers and even installed the mega extension and it still doesn't work. Could you reupload?

Due to mine having issues with flashing in TWRP I encourage you all to grab @scrosler update from here:

Nice work sir.
Thanks for this.

PSA: somewhere along the line I was smart enough to derp up the root part. I tested via adb shell and it worked so I must have missed something when integrating it.
I'll fix the whole thing soon. in the mean time just flash SuperSU after you flash the ROM: http://download.chainfire.eu/446/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r3.zip
Installing now..thank you!

I'm sure we are all aware that 4.4.3 hit only a few hours ago!
I've been spending the past hour or so getting into an update zip and rooted and well, here it is!
IMPORTANT:
TWRP my recovery of choice did not work when flashing this, I cannot work out why (I think it's a TWRP issue with the new Android)
However I swapped over to Philz recovery and it flashes flawlessly. Please report if this works with CWM or other recoveries.
This odexed! de-odexed is coming

I may have derped root it worked for me but when testing another flash it failed, if you have problems flash this: http://download.chainfire.eu/446/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r3.zip
Enjoy

FYI: TWRP has nothing to do with what issue you may be having in regards to flashing. I have no problem with my stock rooted ROMS. Will flash on TWRP just fine. If you have an issue post the error and I can help you troubleshoot it. More than likely its bad binaries or something. Some recoveries are certainly more picky than others.
Also, you should post the device type so people dont try to flash this on the wrong version of Nexus 7 2013. There are a couple models.

hey bro
weird, when I flash in TWRP it leads to a recovery reboot, never had the issue before when making any mod/rom
I've clarified it's for FLO
If you wanna upload yours that are working in TWRP I can add them to the OP or close this thread and encourage users to move over
EDIT: just noticed your thread, I'll close this, thanks for your offer to help anyway

I will download yours and take a look. I have some free time. I bet its binary related or some oddity in the script.
No need to add mine to the OP. I uploaded and started a thread of my own. Sorry, hope I didint offend But when I saw that yours had issues I figured I would just upload what I had. I also have no issues with root.
You can certainly link to my thread in your OP if you want. Dont feel like you have to close your thread. Its up to you.
