[Q] Will only boot in Download mode - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

All,
Hopefully this is an easy one. I looked through the board and did not see anything I haven't similar but i can be wrong. Quick background, I rebooted the phone it looked normal on shutdown but it never came back up.. What I have tried is tremove the battery and left it for day and tried to turn on with no luck. A couple of times it showed the battery indicator but would go black screen if i tried to turn it on. I have reloaded the stock rom using ODIN still no luck. The only thing I can make it do is go to the download screen, that's it. This is a stock ATT Skyrocket no mods or anything. It seems to be a software issue but I do not know how to fix it. Any Ideas Thanks

oops!

I'm in the same boat. Root was a confirmed success after the OTA update, but now I can't get pass the download screen while booting up the phone. When I was trying to boot into recovery mode after I did a few quick restarts in a row after rooting phone, to install a debloater .zip, it came to this screen only (see screenshot), the Samsung logo comes up before this and it's all that it does now. Thinking it's a soft brick as this screen is the only thing that keeps coming up after Samsung Logo with no unlock/lock symbol, when I try to reboot the phone in various ways. I know I can't use Odin to reflash back to stock MDL after the June OTA update, as I tried with no luck came up failed like I knew it would. Plug in via usb to computer, PC doesn't recognize it, so I can't check / access anything on the phone. Pulling straws here. PLEASE HELP.......

I think I bricked my Infuse, rooted with odin kernel hack, worked fine, left it in the charger for the night, wake up, its not responding to any buttons, odd, pull out battery, reinsert battery and I get nothing no response from it. Plug in in the wall charger, and I get a little loading circle on the screen thats frozen, unplugged it, pulled out battery, reinsert battery and try booting again, this time it got as far as a ROGERS boot screen, but no Samsung boot screen. Left it for 15 minutes and it was still at rogers boot screen. haven't been able to get past the loading circle since, tried recovery mode and it just stays black. only time I can get anything up now is if I plug it into a computer/wall and it comes up with the frozen circle
Any chance of survival for my week old Infuse, or is it dead?
It's doing something, so it's saveable.
You don't say whether or not you tried download mode.
Do that then reflash.

I just tried to get it into download mode, had to use a different computer. I used GTG Unbricking tool and Odin said success, my Rogers phone booted to AT&T screen and then to a Samsung screen where it sat on for about 10-20 minutes before it shut itself off, now when I plug it in it shows a empty battery with a frozen loading circle overtop it.
Glad to hear it's salvageable anyway!

Sounds like you flashed the wrong Odin package. I would try heimdall one click ) the older one from Adam outler then super one click to root, flash kernel (with cwm support) and flash ROM of choice

Thanks so much! Solved my issue after trying 4 times with Adam Outler. for custom roms and kernels I think Im going to stick to my O3D, this Infuse 4G doesn't seem as easy to recover after I accidentally kill it, my O3D seems more reliable. The Infuse shall remain stock with root!

Have you tried taking the sim out? The first time mine did this, I took out my sim and SD card and it worked fine until it randomly shut off in the night.

Mightve bricked my P5113

Hi, i tried updating my tab to the leaked 4.1 OTA and after following the instructions my tab wont boot. It will only play the boot animation then hang at the samsung logo for about ten minutes then go black. I cant get it into download or recovery mode, but when i plug it into the wall it shows the battery icon. Also odin recognises the tab while its hanging at the samsung logo.. i have heard talk of a usb jig but not for this tablet.. Can anyone offer any advice? thanks in advance
If Odin sees it a USB jig isn't needed.. Just flash the stock f/w tar and you're good
EDIT: fail... No download mode... Umm... Sounds like you're in a bootloop... No idea why recovery and download wouldnt work tho...

The good news is that the device probably isn't bricked. If it was unfixably bricked you shouldn't even see the boot animation.
It's figuring out how to fix it that's the hard part.
What you've clearly done as far as the ROM though is installed the rom improperly somehow. Might have missed as step in the process, or the ROM could have just been a bad download and no fault of your own. These things happen to the best of us.
Assuming that clockworkmod recovery is still installed, and you just can't get into it, you might try to see if you can access it using adb from your computer.
If you have abd installed boot the device as far as it'll go then see if you can connect to it with adb and run this command...
abd reboot recovery
Also try
adb reboot boot loader
If you don't have adb installed read this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1853159
If that doesn't work (and I only give it a 50-50 shot at best as adb isn't always useful during the boot process, which is where you are stuck....then we'll think of something else.
Also please describe the steps you are using to try and get into recovery just to make sure you're trying it the right way.
And after it gets stuck at the Samsung screen are you turning it off completely by holding the power, volume up, and volume down all at once? That should shut the device off completely, which is where you need to be before trying to boot into recovery.
Thank you both! ! I managed to get it going

Please share how you got it fixed and what ended up working.
That way when someone else Google's the same probelm a year from now and finds this thread, he'll have the answer waiting for him. (See my signature cartoon from XKDC.com for a comical represensation of why not explaining what the outcome was is annoying)
Glad it got working!
Well i asked in the thread for that rom and it was suggested that the battery needed charging, I didnt think this was the case cuz my tab had been plugged in to the wall for about an hour already but I let it sit for a couple hours and it finally booted although it said there was 15% power left... its still charging really slow but it boots now!

[Q] Help: BRICK'd. can't boot into anything (recovery, download, etc)

background: rooted and was running 4.1 stock and CWM 10.0 on verizon gs3. i wanted to bump up to jelly bean 4.2 with CWM 10.1.
first i tried using Rom Manager and Rom Toolkit to flash a new rom. from Rom Manager, i rebooted into recovery and got stuck on the CWM boot screen.
After 30 minutes or so i pulled the battery and tried flashing the stock .tar.md5 using Odin and ended up with this:
"System software not authorized by verizon wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest verizon wireless store for help."
now i can't boot into download or recovery. i just have this screen with the yellow exclamation point and the above message.
how screwed am i? i've tried reading everywhere and from what i can gather i didn't wipe my cache sufficiently, but all the other threads just say 'use Odin to get back to stock', but i can't get into download mode so i can't use odin.
please help.
You're bootloader wasn't unlocked. Pull the battery then hold power, volume down, and home for fifteen or twenty seconds until it boots into download mode. Odin flash a stock rom then root AND ALSO unlock your bootloader.

I have noticed that a lot of people have not unlocked the bootloader are posting on here that they have "bricked" their phones.

Ha, I agree although I think its occurred in decreasing fashion since August. Being "bricked" is used overeagerly by folks not wholly understanding their situation. You really have to try to brick this device before that word can be used correctly.
Your phone has not been bricked. You will know that you have bricked your phone when you can't turn on your phone at all. No download mode and no recovery mode also no pulling of the battery just a dead phone.
ClockworkMod
When you fix your phone, root then unlock the bootloader... You can try RM again but I believe that it is best to use ClockworkMod (or the Touch version) for flashing instead of ROM Manager - old fashion, maybe, but it works!
NOTE: Once you start flashing it becomes addictive - you have been warned
thanks for the comments. my apologies for using the term Brick incorrectly as it seems to really chap the cheeks of some people on this board (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149210)
no luck with holding down buttons with the battery pulled. i ordered a USB Jig to try and force it back into download mode.
From there, what should my first step be? return to stock?

thanks that's a very helpful thread. However, i still can't get into download/Odin mode. i'm guessing if/once the USB jig can force the phone into download mode, this is where i'll start.
thanks for everyone's help and patience.

Is it safe to continue?

So i was going thru in flashing the stock rom through odin but my dog layed on my surge protector and turned off my PC (i know...) so i ended up getting stuck on a "failed firmware connect to keis in recovery mode" or something similar. So i couldnt get into the downloading screen. Everytime i restarted it would go directly to that screen.
Well something happened and i ended up on a new sceen showing the battery logo but it wasnt moving, just frozen. I figured it was a dead battery so i let it charge overnight. I woke up and i was still on the battery screen but i tryed to get into the download screen and i could.
So now im here can i flash the stock firmware using odin?
I cant get oast rhe samunsg logo if i try to boot normally so i figured i just need all the firmware reflashed?

I've never encountered this issue - and do not have an answer - my apologies
I am sure someone else will chime in and help you get this resolved
Fortunately, every time I've borked a flash - I have been able to get into regular download mode
Does Odin recognize the tab when you plug it into your PC ??

well i have actually figured it out:good::good::laugh::good::good:, or at least saved myself and got my tab up an running again.
thanks for the support and help.
im going to be writing a detaild version on what to do over the next 2 days, im going to write it for linux but it will easily work for windows as i needed virtual box. ( a program that can emulate another O.S)
I forgot to mention i was on Linux mint so it was a little bit "harder" so to speak, but thats because there is not alot of info, hopefully my post will save some stress.

What if I can't get to download mode? When I attempt to get there the phone just buzzes every couple seconds, but never goes into download mode. When I release, it goes to the battery charging icon. When I try to get to recovery mode, it vibrates and goes back to the Galaxy S splash screen and hangs. Thanks.

Keep in mind, to get into download mode, you must have the phone disconnected from the computer! If it shows the charging battery icon, then your phone is plugged in. Unplug it and try again.

7z is a compression format. The files you want are in the compressed 7z file. Extract it using 7zip or WinRAR or any number of tools. Then ¡voila! you have what you need
