NOTES
Kernel Tuner/TricksterMod, etc
You don't need these apps because the Bulletproof installer sets everything up automatically, but if you want to check or change settings, you can use these apps. Just be aware that some of them (e.g. Kernel Tuner) are set by default to apply settings on boot, which can interfere with the settings you chose in the Bulletproof installer.
Sweep2Wake
Sweep2wake (S2W) allows you to wake up your device by swiping your finger across the capacitive buttons from left to right. Swiping from right to left will put it back to sleep (sweep2sleep). The options are: sweep2wake/sweep2sleep, sweep2sleep only, and disabled. If you use apps such as Kernel Tuner, the sweep2sleep only option can be selected by choosing "On with backlight".
/sys/android_touch/sweep2wake
0=disabled
1=enable sweep2wake + sweep2sleep
2=enable sweep2sleep only
Shortsweep
Enabling this makes sweep2wake work with a shorter sweep distance. You can edit /etc/elementalx.conf to change the setting on boot.
/sys/android_touch/shortsweep
0 = disabled
1 = enabled
DoubleTap2Wake
DoubleTap2Wake (DT2W) allows you to wake the device by double tapping in the bottom inch or so of the screen, above the capacitive buttons.
/sys/android_touch/doubletap2wake
0=disabled
1=enable doubletap2wake
CPU voltages
CPU voltages are fully customisable with apps such Kernel Tuner or Trickster Mod. Be careful, lowering voltages can cause instability. Generally, having reboots while the phone is asleep is a sign that your minimum voltage is too low. The minimum voltage allowed is 700mV.
Be careful with undervolting. If you have bluetooth or sound issues, try increasing the minimum voltage.
NTFS support
This is for anyone who wants to use OTG to connect a USB stick or portable harddrive formatted with Microsoft's NTFS filesystem. You may need Stickmount or a similar app to mount.

Just hit thanks and now wondering the same

This one is stock with s2w, dt2w, and the fastcharge and magnet options.
No overclocking, no automatic undervolting, no messing with thermal. Default governors and schedulers.

Thnks
Hi, thnks for this kernel
But NTFS support does not work for me. I used Stick mount pro as mounter and it does not mount the usb memory

I know you were working on this but I didn't realize it would be released to soon! Thanks a lot!

I've been using your ElementalX its great I will give this bad boy a shot tonight.

Never mind. Wrong thread.

Already does that. Check out the video in the OP.
Sweeping from right to left across the bottom of the screen (where the back, home and recent buttons are) will put the tablet to sleep.

Sorry to ask a question but, how do i clean the kernel?

So do S2W and DT2W have any major impact on standby battery life? I flashed this last night and enabled those features until my case arrives. It has a magnet, so I'll probably disable these features when it arrives. I just didn't want to constantly use the power button.

Oh, I've noticed. Lol. Thanks for the reply. That's all i needed to hear and I think I'll be fine until I get my case. I've got mine running Juice Defender and Greenify, and the battery life is just nuts compared to my first gen N7.

Awesome! The other Elemental just crash with Cyanogrnmod, bit this is justo like the name says, bulletproof! And not only that, its súper smooth and even gets 7100 in quadrant! At stock speed! Thank you for this amazing kernel, you are the best :good:

Hi! I kept with the default option when I was flashing the zip, and so I gave sweep2wake, sweep2lock, doubletap2wake.
One question, other than sweeping the bottom capacitive buttons to lock, I noticed sweeping downwards from the top right corner to the bottom right corner also locks the device, any way to just enable the bottom area?

[KERNEL] AT&T/Rogers dag .42 1.83GHzOC/UV/init.d/BFQ/BLN/FUSE/adb root/optimized

Hello Everybody!
So, this is some kernel code that I ported over from the lovely Jugs0.3 kernel and Synergy kernel for T-Mobile SGS II, applied to our fancy pants Skyrocket. The codebase has been brought nearly up to parity with codeaurora msm kernel and I have also patched out several buggeroonskis.
It's tested by myself and the awesome guys in irc.irondust.net #skyrocket, thanks fellers!
This version has OC support to 1.863GHz and 1.6v, with BFQ, UV/OC support, init.d support, BLN support, compiler optimizations, and insecure (for adb root access)
It is packaged as a CWM zip for the easy flashing.
Thanks to the awesomeness known as k0nane for hosting!

Rogers: Original Kernel/init.qcom.rc/lights.msm8660.so CWM zip
NOTE: 1.78GHz is about all I can run stable, and running with 192MHz active seems to cause SoD for me. Careful with undervolting. A few people have reported filesystem corruption resulting in force closes every bootup when volts are too low, resulting in the need to flash the original recovery.img (CWM will not fix it), and wipe data/cache to restore phone.

As it is using the same OC/UV codebase as t-mobile sgs ii, the same tools apply to adjusting OC/UV: 1,2,(guide to creating voltage control scripts)
Changelog:
0.42
- New sysfs interface allowing tweaking of voltages and frequencies beyond CPU: L2 Frequency, sys_vdd, vdd_dig, vdd_mem, L2 <---> CPU frequency mapping
0.41
- Fixed a crash with video playback in 0.4
0.4
- Merge to codeaurora msm kernel, bringing in a few months worth of patches
- Multiple optimizations to audio/video encoding/decoding path
- Fixed CPU1 locking at lower speeds
- AAC Multi-Channel/Dual-Mono audio decoding support
- Added lower 3D GPU step for power saving on less demanding 3d apps
- Multiple power saving features
- Tons of debug code removed
- Compressed with xz for a smaller kernel
- Reduced latency for CPU1 hotplug for faster bringup/shutdown
- Scheduling improvements, ARM SMP Ticketing
0.3
- re-built from rogers source, with OC/UV code from romanbb/faux123/mr.x
- ondemand, interactive, userspace, performance, conservative, lagfree, smartassV2 governors
- Deeper sleep state enabled and lowest stepping reduced to 54MHz - should improve battery life vs. stock kernel (may be offset by GPU OC)
- 25mV undervolt across the board
- bus speeds/volts reduced slightly for stability
- GPU overclock 30mhz on 3d core and 10mhz on 2d core
- Autoscheduling implemented
- 1.83GHz step currently not working, seems to be related to GPU overclock and over-current protection. Setting 1.83GHz step causes weirdness like one core locking to 900mhz while the other core reports 1.83 and is really running 1.78. Stick to 1.78 max for now.
- USB OTG support is enabled - I have no devices/cables to test this functionality, please report!
0.2
Merged in some parts of Synergy kernel
Set to no OC/UV by default, use System Tuner or similar to apply OC/UV
BFQ Scheduler
lagfree/ondemand[X]/interactive[X]/performance/smartassV2 governors (default ondemand)
384mhz minimum by default (192 may cause problems)
BLN (use bln control app from market to activate and control)
Shut down issue fixed
Bootanimation reverted to samsung for the mo (weirdness with /system/bin/bootanimation?)
0.1
First Release, based on romanbb's jugs kernel

wanna say in the 4100's high side really nice
any of you folks running this with the skystocketeer ROM? thanks for the feedback
Running with SkySTOCKeteer (although I may have to go back until the Clock is brought back 0.o)
At 1.72ghz
Out of 5 runs
My highest quadrant 4400
Lowest Quadrant 3680
AnTuTu 6608 (best of 3 runs)
Is anyone having any issues with downloading content from the Market (non WiFi)?
No problem with Market via data here.

Just installed the kernel.
Booted up.
Waited a couple minutes.
Then kicked off AnTuTu.
About ten seconds later, the phone rebooted.
It's cycling.
Rebooting over and over.
Gets to the lock screen and a few seconds later it reboots.
Over and over. lol
Only other mod is the T-Mobile BeastMod ROM using r34p3rex's method for running TMO ROM's on the Skyrocket.
I'm guessing this kernel is conflicting with that somehow.

Did you install something to change the clock? It does not like 1.8ghz, clock it down to 1.78/1.72 and try again.
Though it may not like the Tmobile stuff too, not sure.

This is a kernel, not a full ROM... please use AOKP, MIUI4, or CM9 with this...
Atarashii - New/Fresh - This kernel was made to revolutionize what all of the current 'normal' Epic kernels have. I have added in tweaks and mods that were never before seen on the Epic, long forgotten, and from other devices such as the Nexus S and i9000.
Hopefully (probably) most other kernel developers will implement these new features and help keep the Epic current.
I prefer that you use NSTools to overclock and undervolt and do other tweaks. It is more featured than Voltage Control and this kernel supports it better. Voltage Control works fine too but I recommend uninstalling all cpu tools you have and installing NSTools.
I am not responsible to ANYTHING that happens to you or your phone as a result of using this kernel. Most things in this are experimental to a point but have been tested and confirmed safe.
Some of these features have NEVER been used before on the Epic, so don't expect everything that you are used to. Things can and will be different than usual.

Actually I'm liking the change in the color scheme - I was just wondering how to revert back if needed.
Another thing I noticed is that while scrolling in XDA threads it stutters. It might be just me but still wanted to point out.
As someone asked it would be really nice to know what kind of good changes we should expect from this kernel. It looks good.

MD5?
Not the worst thing in the world but for about the last 4 seconds of boot and then until my sd card has been scanned, everything has a heavy green overlay.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
Also NSTool won't let me set battery charge to above 96%. Not sure if that is relevant to the kernel or if that is an app "feature" though.

marcusant said:
How to overclock
Download NSTools from the market
Go to the CPU tab
Set the max frequency to what you want
Liveoc is really buggy and I need to talk to thomasskull about some RAM things to make sure I do not brick anybody. For now, do not mess with liveoc and keep it at 100%.
How to undervolt
Download Voltage Control (this is also possible via nstools)
Slide to the voltages tab
Click on a frequency
Slide the slider to change UV value and apply
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
So we should have both nstools and vc installed and running at the same time if Iwant to oc and uv? What kind of downside to the kernel if I want to use vc for both ocing and uving? *

It seems my Epic can't handle 1.4 GHz speed as it hangs and restarts, so I am decreasing the clock speed. Does anyone have issues like me at 1.4?

NOTES
Voltage Control
Bulletproof uses HTC default voltages for guaranteed stability. For the adventurous, you can use apps like Kernel Tuner or Venom Tweaks to adjust your voltages manually. Warning: lowering your voltages can result in instability. Please don't report problems if you are undervolting.
Sweep2Wake
Sweep2wake (S2W) allows you to wake up your device by swiping your finger across the capacitive buttons from left to right. Swiping from right to left will put it back to sleep (sweep2sleep). There are now options for sweep2wake/sweep2sleep, sweep2sleep only, and disabled. If you use ViperXL, make sure to enable sweep2wake in Venom Tweaks.
/sys/android_touch/sweep2wake
0=disabled
1=enable sweep2wake + sweep2sleep
2=enable sweep2sleep only
DoubleTap2Wake
DoubleTap2Wake (DT2W) allows you to wake the device by double tapping in the bottom inch or so of the screen, above the capacitive buttons. You can edit /etc/elementalx.conf to change the setting on boot.
/sys/android_touch/doubletap2wake
0=disabled
1=enable doubletap2wake
Pocket Detection
Pocket detection protects against accidental wakes while S2W, DT2W or L2W are enabled and the phone is in your pocket. Pocket detection uses the proximity sensor. A few people have a problem with their proximity sensor that makes DT2W not work, so I've made an option to disable pocket detection. You can edit /etc/elementalx.conf to change the setting on boot.
/sys/android_touch/pocket_detect
0=disabled
1=enable pocket detection
Button Light Notification
With Button Light Notification (BLN), the capacitive buttons will blink on and off when you have a new notification. As soon as the screen comes on, BLN is canceled and the lights will no longer blink until you have another notification. Please note that if you have your screen set to turn on when a message arrives, you will not see the buttons blinking because once the screen comes on, the button light notification is canceled. You can edit /etc/elementalx.conf to change the setting on boot.
/sys/class/leds/button-backlight/bln
0 = disabled
1 = BLN enabled

Bulletproof-1.0
This is very close to stock, except with a few features and optimizations. It should be very stable, as I do not change anything to do with voltages or clock frequencies.
Elemental X is my full featured kernel, with many, many options: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2061577
I felt there was a need for something simpler, as some people were having trouble understanding all the options in ElementalX. It's very easy to mess things up when there is full control over voltage and frequency settings.
There were also a lot of issues with the s-on and commandline customization, resulting in failure to install correctly, which caused bootloops. Bulletproof avoids all that.

Booted up fine! S2W obviously works and super smooth!
Only weird thing was I went to kernel tuner cpu 0 min was set to 15?? Which is stock max and cpu 0 max was set to 0. Quick link of the cores and swapping the values on cpu 0 was easy! Thanks flar!!
If you ever need a tester or another one I can do it I'm always open!

That's the way it is with the stock kernel, too.
I didn't change anything with frequencies or voltages.

Shouldn't matter, it'll work the same either way. Even though the settings look strange, it is working normally.
Any chance we can get undervolt abilities on the next release?
I think this is also good.

Elemental has all the same optimizations but also has undervolting, max screen off frequency and a minimum frequency of 192. But they'll probably be pretty close in battery life because bulletproof doesn't overclock anything.

So essentially similar battery life, but more stability is the prime concern for this kernel?

Both have stability as their primary concern. The difference is elemental allows access to all kinds off settings that can lead to instability. The primary concern for bulletproof is to not have a lot of settings that can lead to trouble but still have better performance, better battery life and more features than stock.

I don't know what that means, but I can assure you it is not due to this kernel. Please open a thread in Q&A and I'm sure someone knows what that means.
********************************
Please do not report problems here unless you do a full wipe and reinstall and include logs. You better be very certain that your problem is related to the kernel. Almost every problem posted in the elementalx thread is due to overclocking/undervolting, installation problems, or something unrelated to the kernel.
I will have zero tolerance in this thread. It discourages people from trying the kernel if the thread is full of random problems that have nothing to do with the kernel.
When the kernel has a problem, your phone will crash hard. If that happens, you give me /proc/last_kmsg. Otherwise, don't blame the kernel.

Dynamic F-Sync
This is a goodie by faux123, so all credits go to him for creating this unique feature !
Many kernels just disable synchronous writes to file to speed up system. While this works neatly, it is also dangerous as processes believe that file writes are actually synced to disk (or mmc media in our case) while this is not yet true ! The gain is a noticeably smoother user experience, but the risk of doing so is to have a corrupted filesystem if the device crashes, user pulls battery, battery fully depletes ... so that the device is turned off unexpectedly. To allow for the benefit, but to minimize the risk, faux123 created dynamic fsync, which while the screen is on, will defer file sync temporarily, but when screen gets turned off, a flush is called to synchronize all outstanding writes keeping your data safe.
SLIMBus OverClocked
This means SLIMbus will use its maximum potential to give the best audio quality for the hardware. Takes advantage of both hardware and the mods from zeroinfinity, also opening the door for more things that were previously limited by this. Researched and experimented by ZeroInfinity and Poondog

Ok, so here's something weird. I have installed the latest build and PA Gapps, when I install the PA Gapps, then reboot it has uninstalled, messaging, browser, and launcher. I then have to pull the apk's from this zipped liquid ROM and install them manually by placing in the system folders. TiBu won't even reinstall them. Anyone run into this?

FAQQ: What is MSM_THERMAL?
A: Kernel based 3-phase thermal control!
This replaces your /system/bin/thermald binary which is renamed by the installer to thermald_bck.
It will throttle your cpu speed to keep it cool and unleash it if the cpu has cooled down enough. (3 phases: low, mid and high)
Check /sys/kernel/msm_thermal/conf/ for the thermal configuration
Q: What is MSM_MPDECISION
A: 100% kernel based multi core decision! (should cpu1 be online or not?)
This replaces your /system/bin/mpdecision binary which is renamed by the installer to mpdecision_bck.
Check /sys/kernel/msm_mpdecision/conf/ for the configuration.
Q: What is MSM_MPDECISION Input Boost?
A: This will boost your min cpu speed if you touch the screen or press a button and gives you full control.
In those events the min cpu freq will be risen to a predefined value (look below) on every online cpu. This boosts overall reaction times and smoothness a lot.
Q: What is Sweep2Wake?
A: You "Sweep" your fingers across the capacitive buttons to the right in order to wake the screen up
Q: What is Sweep2Sleep?
A: Sweep2Wake but sweeping to the left to turn the screen off
Q: What is DoubleTap2Wake?
A: You double tap one of the capacitive buttons (set which one in trickstermod) to wake it up
Q: What is DoubleTap2Sleep?
A: DoubleTap2Wake except it turns the screen off
Q: What is Pocket Detection?
A: It tries to detect if your phone is in a pocket. If it is, the aforementioned wake control will be disabled
Q: What is -O3 Optimization?
A: It's a GCC Optimization that compiles faster, more optimized code
Q: What are TCP Congestion Control Algorithms?
A: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TCP_congestion-avoidance_algorithm
Q: What is a CPU Governor?
A: It decides how the CPU should be used
Q: What is a GPU Governor?
A: Same thing as CPU Governor but for GPUs
Q: What is an I/O Scheduler?
A: Like a CPU Governor for Input Output (file system) Events
Q: What is Fast Charge?
A: If enabled, It forces your phone to detect a USB Port as an Outlet to Speed Up Charging (depends on the output capacity of the USB Port
Q: What is FRANDOM?
A: A fast pseudo-random number generator
