R530U no signal problem... HELP - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Okay so I bought this US Cellular S3 from eBay and the phone had network signal when I first got it. Then I thought playing with the Hidden Menu and try to make it work with GSM but all I got is problem. I lost the network signal on my R530U... I have tried flashing couple of stock ROMs but no luck so far. I can see my phone number in Settings > About menu but the network says disconnected.
Please help!

It's hard to help when there aren't many people here with that carrier. It would be much better to go here http://teamuscellular.com/Forum/forum/284-galaxy-s-iii-development/

I made the mistake of messing around with the Hidden Menu on my old Samsung Fascinate and it lost data signal. Basically, you may have cleared out some technical string of code related to network authentication ...some ID or something (i don't know) Once its cleared out...no way to reprogram it...far as I was told...had to get it replaced....every phone is different.

[Q] I am stumped. NO SERVICE

Hello all,
I travel A LOT for work. I have been to Bahrain with my Infuse before, switch Sims, works like a champ... I was on REFUSE back in Sept last time it worked.
This trip I am on CM7, and I have every modem, so I know it is not a modem issue, but neither my AT&T sim or my Zain sim will get service. In my Xperia Mini, both Sims work. Odd thing, AT&T sim will tell me I have a voice mail, but will not connect to a tower.
In the States, both Sims work, and the phone has worked here in the past. I have even flashed back to stock, and still no joy.
Is there a way to make the towers think I have an i9000, that is the only thing I can think that it could be, but it used to work... Imagine going from an Infuse to a Xperia Mini, my eyes are killing me....
What am I missing? Those that have seen me in DEV section, I always figure things out, but now I am asking for a fresh idea for you guys, I need it... Allen
I had some problems with some of the more recent modems in both Kuwait and Qatar. Then, after switching back to an older modem it took more than 15 minutes for me to finally connect to a network. I think I went back to UCKI4 and it worked for me, but again, it took a long time to finally connect. I'd try one of the older modems and just letting it sit for a while to see if it'll finally connect for you.

Being you are in Dubai, your reply is my best hope... I have every single Gingerbread modem in my CWM_ZIP folder except UCKI4... I just flashed it, will leave in on over night to see if she finds a tower, I am sure you too had to catch Zain towers, so I have hope....
Has anyone ever used a FROYO modem on Gingerbread... Refused was on UCKD5 when I was working in Sept, but I have been scared to try a FROYO modem... I do not have my Download Dongle with me, so I do not want to Soft Brick my phone over here....
I want to move my Zain sim over, but I need it talking to a tower for work, so I am hoping that the ATT Sim finally works on UCKI4. Thanks again for the tip, hope it works.... Allen
No luck... I even managed to soft brick my phone, and no jig here... Could not find any 100 ohm resistors, but I did find 4 1200 ohm, and in parallel I will get the 300 ohm to pin 4 and 5... Then I am going to try Refuse again and see if it still works. I miss my Infuse, but love Bahrain.... What to do...
I have now learned that a 500 ohm rheostat (like used on Guitars for Volume) is the best way to get 301 ohms, so I was able to get the phone back, flashed complete original stock rom...
Still NO SERVICE.
Currently back to 2.2.1 UCKD5 (tear)
Status page shows:
Network Unknown
Signal strength -51 dBm 31 asu (This is a good signal strength)
Mobile network type UMTS (She sees a 3G tower)
Service State Out of Service
Roaming Not...
Mobile network state Disconnected
Please someone one, I am stumped... How can a phone go from working, change a few Roms, softbrick a few times, then NOTHING...
Hmmmm, Service Mode..... RAT Selection Option is Restricted, did I lose my Break?
Is it possible I corrupted my nv_data.bin file... Even after I format, reflash, no luck.

hi, allen. Just a dumb question. Does apn settings have to be changed?
or a factory reset does all that?

As luck would have it, i fixed it today. I already had an APK for System Toolbox. A app for the Captivate. Under Hidden Codes (sgs users) , select service mode and gsm 900 was off. I just selected all bands and I am now on UCKL2. And after 2 Weeks I am using my Infuse is talking to the tower, life is good.
The APN is for 3G and MMS not basic calls. I am on a prepay Zain Sim so i don't want that working...

Dropped Connection to Network Problem

my phone will drop connection and then not reconnect. no voice, no data. (wifi still works)
what I've tried:
1. Different radios/firmware
2. different roms
3. different preferred network types
4. switching airplane mode on and off
what I haven't tried:
1. different sim
2. calling tmobile for suggestions
What else could cause this problem?
it could be a hardware issue
Hello,
I have the same issue than you !
I am facing issues such as call drop and no 3G data connection in some area in my region since I have 5 signal bar and H letter displayed (HSDPA connection)...
I have found a workaround consisting in:
1 - Switching to GSM Only mode (2G Only)
2 - Desabling Mobile Data Connection
Then it works, I can pass and receive voice call ...
Regards,
Nino
I'm new to the Sensation and having the exact same issue.
Followed the stickies in the Dev section to S-OFF, root and bypass SIM lock and then once the SIM card is inserted I get only GSM and no data.
If you use *#*#4636#*#* in the Dialer and go to Phone Information do you notice that it always switches to WCDMA preferred? I change to GSM/CDMA auto PRL like all my other Android devices (on Rogers Wireless) and it disconnects, reconnects but only for GSM and no data. It sometimes says it's connected to EDGE or HSPA but no icon at the top right and then it reverts back to GSM.
I have also tried flashing virtually every firmware, ensuring that the radio and RILs match (I had an HTC Desire Z so the HTC phones are not new to me entirely). I don't know what else to do. I tried a Bell SIM card and tried all of the same options to no avail.
I really hope someone can figure this out. I don't want to have destroyed a phone that I just bought for my wife. Her Atrix broke and I purchased that outright as well, so this is really killing my wallet. I've been through about 10 Android devices and I wouldn't say I'm a newb, but I really do feel like one right now. This sucks!
Get a new sim from tmo if it's over 2 phones old.

Go to menu settings woreless and networks
hit mobile network - it need to be ticked
hit mobile networkS hit APN or Access point names - hit the menu button - choose reset to defaults
go back to mobile networks - choose network mode, select wcdma only - look for the 3G or h sign when it shows go back and choose gsm/wcdma auto

I did try every setting in there. The new sim card fixed it! So I guess our problems are different.

Cannot Accept/Send Calls or Texts! Someone please help!!

I can't get any sort of data signal at all from my phone! IT's already been 3 days since this happened and I can't change my APN, nor does switching the modem version work, what do I do?? I would really hate to call AT&T because they'll just blame the phone being rooted and expect me to go back to stock Gingerbread.
So someone please help me so that I wouldn't have to do that!

Have you tried ODIN back to stock to eliminate any potential external issues? I saw your post yesterday in my APN thread. At this point I would go back to stock and see if that helps and then from there root/flash the ROM of your choice.

Have you checked if you have your IMEI number?.? *#06# on dialer or look through the phone info in settings...
I had this issue once. This is what worked for me: settings > wireless & networks > mobile networks > use packet data [should be checked] ~ data roaming [should be unchecked]. My issue may have been different than urs. Good luck.

I just installed the new CM 10.1 and I have the same problem. Actually I've had it mostly with all the JB softwares out there that I tried. Could the signal problem be related to the IMEI? I think I've lost, indeed, my IMEI by changing to JB but could that be my problem? Yesterday I placed a few phone calls and it worked. Now it just random disconnects and it woun't allow me to make any phonecalls. Also it takes 5-10 minutes before it connects to the network (Vodafone - if it makes any difference). I just figuered it was a modem problem but you got me wondering.
Thanks

[Q] Galaxy S3 I535 No Service After KitKat Flash (4.4.4)

Hello everyone. I was hoping that some of you that are more knowledgeable about this stuff could help me out here. I recently flashed from CM 10.2 to KitKat (4.4.4), which everything went smoothly for the most part. However, I've noticed that my phone constantly has no service. I should probably state that I live in an area with very low service to begin with, but prior to the flash I was able to get at least a bar inside my house. Now, I'm unable to get anything.
The first thing I could think of to check was my settings in the phone. The data is enabled, CDMA Roaming mode is set to automatic, CDMA subscription is set to RUIM / SIM, and the Preferred Network Type was Global. I wasn't familiar with the global setting as I was used to seeing the LTE / CDMA / EvDo options there. So, when I clicked on it, it now gives LTE, 3g, 2g, 1x, and Global as options. I tried changing it to 3g, but the changes would not save that way. The only way I could get them to save was to power off the phone, take the sim card out and put it back in, and then reboot and switch them. Once i pick a new setting (which is now set on 3g), it locks it and I can't change it again without removing sim card.
When I look in About Phone > Status section, I'm seeing the network says searching for service. The mobile network type is unknown. The service state is out of service, and the mobile network state is disconnected.
Is there anything I can do to fix this issue? If so, I would truly appreciate any type of guidance you guys or gals could give me. Thanks!
I didn't read your entire post but myself and several others have reported signal issues after 4.4.4 flashes on all different ROM types. I think 4.4.4 is just picky about what firmware and baseband you're running. I flashed a few different RPM packages too but in the end I got lucky flashing the BLK3 modem and it seemed to fix my issues. I had noticeably poor signal strength most of the time and a couple times I would look down at my phone and I'd have no signal at all.
Maybe a dev or expert can shed some light on the root of the issue. I don't know enough about under the hood stuff to make an expert diagnosis.
Edit: The unanimous fix that everyone appears to agree on is to flash the MF1 AIO (all in one) package and then flash the ML1 modem only. Problem is finding a legit source for the MF1 aio package seems to be up in the air.
Like I said though, I didn't even do this. I was just trying all kinds of combinations of modems/aio's/ and rpm's and I got lucky. 2 days now with a solid signal at all times. LTE speeds are blazing too, 45 down and 10 up.
Check ur imei number. Or flash a backup and see if that fixes ur problem.

[Q] Nexus 5 only connects to LTE on T-Mobile

I did some searching around and found a couple of pages with ideas but they have not worked so far. Here's the deal, my son's said his Nexus 5 was getting pretty bad reception so I took a look at it. After some toggling of the network settings I discovered that it will only connect to LTE, not to HSPA(+) or Edge. Where we are, we have somewhat weak LTE (2 of the three towers have been "modernized" with LTE and band 2 HSPA+, one has not and it's slightly closer to us). We have a Cell-Fi repeater so we get strong HSPA+ signal in our house. His sim works fine in a Nexus 4 with the hybrid radio getting Edge, HSPA+ and LTE. My nano sim with adapter that works fine in the Nexus 4 exhibits the same problems in the Nexus 5. I tried formatting the cache from the stock recovery menu and am now looking to do a factory reset since I never did oem unlock this phone so I can't just flash a radio to test.
My gut tells me it's hardware so I have my son rebuilding his phone environment on the Nexus 4 so that we can do a factory reset to see if that helps and I'll unlock it at that point. If it doesn't fix it, I've already started the conversation with the play store. My question is, anyone else seen anything like this? Anything else I should try out?

if lte is in your area, and not a perfect signal, itll still choose to connect to lte by default. if you lose your lte connection, then itll connect to H or 3G, and so on. if you do not want it to connect to lte, go to the phones main settings, mobile networks, then change the preferred network type from lte to 3G. or you can dial *#*#4636#*#*, chose phone info, then change the network type to wcdma preferred.

Thanks for the reply, I understand all that. I don't know if I asked clearly enough or not but the problem we are seeing here is that this particular phone can only connect to LTE which is weak inside my house. So, when it tries to switch over, it just won't connect. I also tried to make a call which will switch to HSPA+ and that too fails. Going to the info menu and selecting WCDMA preferred nets me a phone that won't connect, selecting GSM results in the same. LTE only or GSM/LTE works only if it picks up an LTE signal. Ditto for selecting 2G, 3G or LTE preferred in the Mobile Networks menu. I've also reset the APN's, confirmed that the settings match my MotoX, etc and still no joy.
Just looking for ideas that someone might have that I can try before blowing away all my son's data on a factory reset or, if that fails, hardware replacement.

Yea, according to the nice person I spoke to at the play store, I should indeed qualify for an RMA and I should find out in the next day or so. I purchased the phone new in box from someone and they were able to find the phone and they are now attributing the phone to me.
I am curious about the hardware mod though. Is this just for Edge/HSPA or is it for signal in general? If it's signal in general then I'm not sure I'd want to try it since this phone used to work just fine.
