Hello everyone. I was hoping that some of you that are more knowledgeable about this stuff could help me out here. I recently flashed from CM 10.2 to KitKat (4.4.4), which everything went smoothly for the most part. However, I've noticed that my phone constantly has no service. I should probably state that I live in an area with very low service to begin with, but prior to the flash I was able to get at least a bar inside my house. Now, I'm unable to get anything.
The first thing I could think of to check was my settings in the phone. The data is enabled, CDMA Roaming mode is set to automatic, CDMA subscription is set to RUIM / SIM, and the Preferred Network Type was Global. I wasn't familiar with the global setting as I was used to seeing the LTE / CDMA / EvDo options there. So, when I clicked on it, it now gives LTE, 3g, 2g, 1x, and Global as options. I tried changing it to 3g, but the changes would not save that way. The only way I could get them to save was to power off the phone, take the sim card out and put it back in, and then reboot and switch them. Once i pick a new setting (which is now set on 3g), it locks it and I can't change it again without removing sim card.
When I look in About Phone > Status section, I'm seeing the network says searching for service. The mobile network type is unknown. The service state is out of service, and the mobile network state is disconnected.
Is there anything I can do to fix this issue? If so, I would truly appreciate any type of guidance you guys or gals could give me. Thanks!
I didn't read your entire post but myself and several others have reported signal issues after 4.4.4 flashes on all different ROM types. I think 4.4.4 is just picky about what firmware and baseband you're running. I flashed a few different RPM packages too but in the end I got lucky flashing the BLK3 modem and it seemed to fix my issues. I had noticeably poor signal strength most of the time and a couple times I would look down at my phone and I'd have no signal at all.
Maybe a dev or expert can shed some light on the root of the issue. I don't know enough about under the hood stuff to make an expert diagnosis.
Edit: The unanimous fix that everyone appears to agree on is to flash the MF1 AIO (all in one) package and then flash the ML1 modem only. Problem is finding a legit source for the MF1 aio package seems to be up in the air.
Like I said though, I didn't even do this. I was just trying all kinds of combinations of modems/aio's/ and rpm's and I got lucky. 2 days now with a solid signal at all times. LTE speeds are blazing too, 45 down and 10 up.
Check ur imei number. Or flash a backup and see if that fixes ur problem.

I have a rooted Tmobile phone (Octane) and loving it. This isn't a 'root' question, but a signal issue that I noticed before and after the root (not related to rooting).
Anyhow, when I leave an area (in my vehicle) that has low Tmobile signal, it switches to ATT and says "no service". That's fine, but what I noticed is when I return to the same area, it will take an additional 4-5 miles of driving into a strong Tmobile signal area before it pick up the Tmobile signal.
In my area, there are no agreements to roam on ATT's network, so my phone is dead until I re-enter Tmobile signal area.
My question is, it is a nuisance that my phone can't use Tmobile towers as a priority. It seems to hold onto ATT's towers longer than it should. What can I do to fix this issue if possible?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: My wife has the same phone and it does the same thing.
Have you changed modems? That seems to fix many issues pwople have with connection issues.
Not sure to be honest. I used this process to install Octane's ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223765
I did see something in Odin about "Modem" but don't know if that is the proper way to install a modem or not.
This thread will tell you how to change the modem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192436
FB also recommends one in that thread iirc. But other members have better luck with different ones. Im told it depends on your location but nobody has said which modem is better in what part of the country.
Awsome, thanks for the leg work on finding that for me! Is there a way where I could opt out of roaming so my phone uses Tmobile as a priority 'all' the time?
This is just incase the modem doesn't seem to help. Just one idea I had.
Also, KJ6 modem is the one I need correct?
Not sure of the roaming opt out.
FB puts the KG4 modem is his personal build of VB. Im using KG4. I would try all of the GB modems to see the results.

Roaming can be disabled in Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks.
A Little Background. When I first got my device I used the kexec method to flash a unofficial CM mod and lost my IMEI. I manually injected it back into my phone and flashed back to stock.
Now, I constantly lose my data connection for 15-45 seconds all the time. It happens intermentantly and is driving me nuts. Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
Try flashing another modem, for me when I had the G1 modem it dropped data quite a bit. But try all the ones you're not using because some modems seem to work better for other people.

Change apn from ehprd to lte and it will change you're signal from enhanced 3g to evdo rev a witch Is standard 3g....
I don't have lte near me and has tremendously helped my 3g signal to stay at the signal level my iPhone 4s is being a pure 3g phone....

Thanks for the feedback. I will search the forums for direction on how to do these things.
So when I first got my phone the APN was set to EHRPD, and I just checked (1 week later) and it's now set to LTE and I never touched it and I am running full virgin stock out of the box... is this normal? Does it auto-switch?
I hear the modem might be an issue for a little while...hopefully devs get it fixed soon.
So are people having better luck on the F2 modem or the G1?
After reading the forums in more depth I guess lots of people are having this problem.
I have a verizon gs3 that is rooted, running beanstalk 4.4.251-20140301-d2lte. I can't get LTE to work correctly. I can get LTE to turn on if I change my 'preferred network type' to LTE/GSM/WCDMA, but then I have no verizon signal (voice signal). When I have it on 'global', I can get 3G and verizon signal, but never any LTE.
This has been going on for quite some time. I've switched between all of the 'preferred network types' but its always 4G and no cell signal, or 3G with cell signal. I used to be on CM 11 nightlies, thought that might be the issue. I switched to Beanstalk, but have the same issue. Just yesterday, I updated my firmware from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788313
Is there something obvious that I'm missing?

I have the EXACT same issue, so you're not alone! Unfortunately, I have no answer for this either.
I was running CM11 (just the stable releases), started noticing lack of LTE a few weeks ago, decided to give SlimKat a try. The ROM is damn near flawless besides this LTE issue. I could actually never get it go into LTE mode through the normal settings, it would always fall back to 3G (and I'm in the middle of a capital city where there's plenty of 4G coverage). However, if I did that *#*#4636#*#* trick to go into testing mode, I could force it into "LTE Only", at which point the phone would be in LTE mode, and enjoy the blazing fast data speeds I pay for .... but can no longer make phone calls.
Anyone else out there experienced this or something similar? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
After doing some research on it, I decided to flash back to stock and unroot. After that, I still could not get 4G, so I took it into the verizon store. I told him the problem, and that I had heard that it needed a new sim card. After doing some simple test, he burned a sim card for me and that did it! I'm thinking that soon after I flashed a CM11 nightly (a month ago at least) I dialed *228 to update my cell coverage. I think that might have fried it. I have limited knowledge on this topic, but I did read somewhere that dialing *228 on some custom roms is not good.
It would be nice if you could take it in to the store without flashing back to stock, but I'm not sure if they would go for that or not.

Ah!! I dialed *228 too! Ok, that's gotta be it. Thanks!
Using Ting (MVNO using Sprint network CDMA) ever since I upgraded from CM11 to CM12 I get intermittent loss of cell signal at times. Every couple of minutes, regardless of where I am or how strong my signal is I will lose all cellular signal for about 20 seconds, including voice and data, and then it will pop back up just like it was before.
I've tried downgrading to two different radios and nothing seems to make any difference. Like I said before this problem didn't occur until I did a clean flash of CM12.. everything was fine with CM11.
I've even wiped/reinstalled CM12 with the same issues.
Does anyone have a solution for this yet?
I recommend keeping your radios updated to LRX22C. Where did you get your ROM from?

From what I've gathered, it seems that sprint networks being unreliable on cm12 has been an existing problem that may get fixed in the future.

Well I fixed it.. sort of. I had tried this before but I didn't reboot the phone.
SETTINGS / MOBILE NETWORK SETTINGS/ PREFERRED NETWORK TYPE
I switched it from LTE to 3G. Looks like I might not be getting LTE coverage but it's hard to tell as LTE is sketchy at best at home and at work... and in either case I'm on Wi-fi anyway. Not a huge deal.
I had tried this before but I didn't reboot the phone after making the change. As long as I leave it on 3G my cell signal never drops. If I switch it to LTE or GLOBAL then it will randomly drop as described above.
I'll retest things after each CM12 update I install see if we get one that works!

Were you able to find a solution for this that you could share?
Honestly no..I just keep it on 3G and there are no issues.
I tried about a week ago switching back to LTE but the display never showed LTE and I definitely wasn't getting LTE speeds and the signal drop returned.
TBH LTE coverage is pretty spotty in my area and I don't use a lot of data outside of Wi-Fi anyway so it's pretty much a non issue for me.
When a CM12 snapshot is released I'll probably try again.
I should add that I dirty flash the latest nightly almost every morning. When a snapshot comes out I'll wipe and clean flash things and go from there.
Update... about a month ago I did a full wipe, going back to stock, did the network updates, etc and all was well.
Then I did a fresh install of cm12.1 and every thing worked great.. Lte and all!
A couple days later I dirty flashed a nightly and got an exclamation point and no data (Wi-Fi is fine). I did find the sprint fix flash which allows me to do the network updates again from cm (had to switch to 1X for it to work) but that only yielded a temporary fix.
I did however find a workaround. If I go to my apn settings menu and change a setting on my ting (sprint mvno I use) entry then change it back and save then BINGO! I have Lte again...
That is... Until I get handed off to another tower.. Then I have to do the workaround again.
I've got verizon m8 with "Unlocked 4G LTE" off ebay, and I'm trying to make it work on t-mobile US.
The problem I'm facing: everything seems to work (LTE included) until it loses the tower (because e.g. I'm moving between towers). It then gets stuck with one bar signal in the status but no actual connection, and it's not even trying to reconnect.
Resetting network by toggling airplane mode on/off brings signal back.
Phone is soff/rooted/supercid with latest firmware (6.21.605.3).
What I tried so far:
- changed sku_id in default.xml to TMOUS (and LRA_US, as set by s-rom)
- tried to flash att and wwe radios - no signal after this, reverted to stock
- enabled all cdma and lte bands in qpst
- tried latest s-rom and viper
- tried different options for "preferred network type": gsm/wcdma/lte, cdma/evdo/gsm/wcdma/lte etc
Nothing helps
any hope or time to get rid of it?
thanks
my issue is identical to yours lol. bumping for attn, still no solution ive been able to find. if something helps you, please share it here

spent a week on this and gave up. Best solution is to sell and get a used t-mobile version :-/ Just did this and t-mob edition gets a much better reception in addition to not losing towers.
I saw multiple people claiming to be successfully using gsm/lte on vzw m8 and I'm really curious if it's something I missed or there is some kind of different hardware involved.
