HTC Desire S reboots during phone call - HTC Desire S

I've been a happy HTC Desire S user for one year now and never had any issues with the phone... until last week, when the phone started rebooting during phone calls. First it occurred once every 1-2 days, but during the past 48h the number of reboots increased to almost 50% of the calls I make.
I use the phone for internet surfing, playing games, sending emails, watching youtube videos a.o, still the reboots only occur during random phone calls.
Has anyone else run into the same problem? Are there any known fixes?
Here are some technical specs:
HTC Desire S S510e
Android 4.0.4
HTC Sense 3.6
Software number: 14.01.401.2 71RD
Many thanks in advance,
Tim

Yes, I have it. Buy a new battery. And reboot is gone.

Similary a problem
Hi,
I have similary a problem when I insert a SIM card and start, and then I will log on to the Internet via the phone the phone will restarts. If you disable mobile network, which is possible works only after inserting a old SIM without service and after I put a right SIM (which is valid), then the phone do not reboot in the meantime, until someone does not call me in this situation I will hear only one ringtone and the phone reboot it make so long when will not be empty battery, it makes without my help. The same thing happens when call me somewhere. Interestingly is when I have not insufficient credit in my card, in this I can hear this message about low credit and after trying to connect to the phone to reboot. I tried O2(CZ) and mobil.cz SIM's and the result is the same. Discuss please, it is possible that I use some ROM and radios which are not friends that do not communicate or have the same problem had. I hope that is not the only solution the service, then it is better to use it as a PDA without a SIM because the God knows how long to wait for a repair.
thanks

[Q] desire dropping 99% of calls

i have just looked for a previous thread that i started but when i did a search for my name it comes up and says no threads found so i think it may have been deleted for some reason
my initial problem was with my desire, i bought it branded to orange from cex, i use vodafone so needed to get it unlocked, i took it to my local phone shop who unlocked it with an unlock code, it hadn't previously been used to make calls untill it was unlocked because it wasn't on the network i needed, anyway, as soon as i tried to make calls they would drop out constantly, couldn't hold 1 single call, some calls would last for a few minutes but would still drop out, i have tried everything suggested, using the aeroplane mode to try and sort it out and also changing the frequencies, none of this helped although when i tried to connect using only wmcda only the calls would drop out less and last a little longer...my firmware was never updated so the firmware on it was 2.1 .......i have since sent my desire of for repair/replacement and have contacted them today (since they have had it 3 weeks) and was told it is ready to be sent back to me and that it has had the mother board replaced...has anyone else had similar problems who had had a new mother board fitted and then the problems have stopped??? im thinking that when it comes back it will be as useless as a phone as it was when i sent it off
thanks
I don't have any ideas about the dropped calls, but here is your thread.

cheers, i couldn't for the life of me find it, even when doing a forum search for my name lol....strange

[Q] No signal on unlocked HTC Sensation

I followed method 2 in this thread to unlock my new HTC Sensation. I can't reply to that thread because I don't have ten posts on these forums.
After unlocking my phone, it accepts my SIM but I constantly have "No Service". The SIM works perfectly in other phones. I tried another SIM in my Sensation and got the same problem. I've checked my APN settings and there are no problems there. I've tried restoring my oldest Nandroid backup, restoring factory settings, etc. but with no luck. When I search for network operators, my phone tells me, "Error while searching for networks." I haven't tried restoring with an RUU (where can I get one?) but other users who seem to have the same problem have tried that with no luck.
At one point last night my phone did suddenly have signal and start working properly. I can't imagine what caused this; my phone was sitting on my desk untouched at the time. (I only noticed because it beeped to indicate it had received an SMS.) I tried sending and receiving calls and both worked just fine.
However, some time later I needed to put my SIM back in my old phone to check something. When I put the SIM and battery back in my Sensation, I was back to No Service. After waiting several hours the situation still hasn't resolved itself like it did before.
Does anyone know what's going on here, or better yet, how I can fix it? Is there any way I can reverse whatever the PG58DIAG file did to my phone? I actually have my phone's real unlock code now, so would be very happy if I could set it back how it was and unlock it legitimately. (I resorted to this method because I was impatient last night and am kicking myself now.)
Edit: In the interest of providing as much information as possible, I'm 90% sure I shut my phone down and restarted it at least once after it started working last night. It was only after taking the battery out that it went back to No Service.
I seem to be having more or less the exact same issue. I have an unlocked HTC Sensation and am using a ROGERS SIM card with it. Works perfectly well in my other phone, Curve 9360, and in a couple other phones as well, but the Sensation will have signal for a second then lose it immediately. For example, an SMS came in just like it did for the OP, then the signal was gone again right away.
Funny thing is this just started today, literally a couple hours ago. It was working fine up until then. Battery pulls or soft restarts don't seem to help.
Thanks to all with any ideas.
To clarify, when my phone found a network it wasn't just a brief flash of reception - it stayed connected and fully functional until I took out the battery. I haven't seen it connect to anything since.
But yeah, would be incredibly grateful if anyone could help out.
Hi, I am having the same issue.
I have unbranded a Vodafone Sensation and applied a stock HTC RUU as per the guides at XDA developers (linked to in post above).
All was fine on Thursday - got a T-mobile signal and a text message from them etc. Turned on today to update my phone properly, and I can't get any service from the phone no matter what SIM card I put in it.
What should I do???
Many thanks in advance.
My phone seems to be working now but I'm not sure why.
After my last post, I put my SIM in my Sensation and left it overnight on my desk to see if it would find a signal. No luck; I woke up and it was still saying No Service. I put it in my pocket and cycled to work, and when I got there my phone had signal and was working perfectly. I considered the possibility that my bedroom might have been some kind of no-service-bubble, but my phone is currently sitting on my desk with full signal strength, and as I said earlier, the SIM worked fine in an older phone in the same place.
Last night I installed a custom ROM (Android Revolution HD) and after installing it my phone froze at the startup screen. With no other option I took my battery out, fearing the worst. But when I turned my Sensation back on the new ROM was working fine and so was my SIM card. Just in case, I haven't dared take my battery out since.
Sorry, this probably isn't much help to the other people experiencing similar problems
A quick update to this issue...
I tried reflashing the RUU again, and initially had no luck. 'No Service' at all.
In desperation I entered the boot menu, and noticed that when it came up it said something like:
PG58IMG not found!
I then decided to click the option - 'reboot bootloader' and the phone reset again. When it came back on, lo and behold it had a signal, and has done ever since. Weird.
The signal seems quite flaky, but it all seems to work at the moment apart from the weather app (location wrong) and a weird screenshot capturing bug.
Quite disappointed how buggy the stock HTC software seems to be, nice phone currently being let down by the software methinks.
I had the same problem also. Try flashing the latest radio (10.58.9035.00P_10.15.9035.02_2)
Don't forget the matching RIL! (IMPORTANT!) HTC-RIL 2.2.0173HMQ
I've never lost my signal again!
As for rowlarry, don't worry, HBOOT just checks if you have pushed a new radio.img

So if any of you need help with flashing a new radio, let me know! Glad to help..
I know how frustrating a non functional sensation can be!
Did everything and still have no signal
boardking_zero thanks for helping but i tried to flash the new radio with the ril file after i installed the rom and it still doesnt work
i bought the phone from a guy on ebay he used it with tmobile and use it as orange
is there anything else i should try to do?
thanks!
i feel so dumb, i did the whole thing without the back cover which is also the antenna of the phone so thats why i had no signal and a weak wifi signal!
Seems that the problem resolves after some reboots... or what?
How did you flash the radio? Did you use recovery or adb? Because is you used recovery it won't work. The RIL you can flash with recovery.
So in case you used recovery, here is the method I use:
1: Download adb
2: Create new folder on pc's local drive and install adb there. Make sure that adb doesn't create a folder in your new folder
3: Extract the radio.zip on your pc and copy the radio.img to the adb folder.
4: Open cmd ( Start-Run-cmd-enter )
5: type cd c:\adb (If adb is located in C:\)
6: Make sure your phone is connected to pc, powered on(homescreen) and debug on
7: in cmd type, adb devices ( this wil start deamon and id your phone )
8: type, adb reboot-bootloader ( phone will reboot in fastboot USB )
9: Now type, fastboot flash radio radio.img
10: When it's done copying you type, fastboot reboot
Done! Radio flashed the 'safer' way..
Now you can reboot phone in recovery and use it to flash the RIL.zip
Make sure they match!
To check your phone's RIL: Use terminal emulator (market) and use this command:
getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl" This will show current ril
Another trick to reboot your antenna, on dial pad, dial *#*#4636#*#* then choose phone settings. If your default setting is WCDMA Preferred, try gsm/cdma auto (prl)
toggle radio off, then on. Make sure you exit using the Home button, this will save your settings.
Let me know how it works out!
PLEASE HELP ME
i have HTC sensation for Tmobile USE, it has been rooted and using method 1 to find the unlock code... after i enter the unlock code, it said "unlock successful" but i still don't get any signal for AT&T. Also everytime i reboot the phone it asks for the unlock code
hi friend i have the same problem in 2 htc sensation tmobile
i have htc unlocked by revolutionary succes PG58DIAG.nbh clean sc58 ok
but says no serviceee with all sim card
i flash with rom and repeat process of unlock but no signalll
please help me
best regards
Firstly Hi to all!!! I'm Yors from Valencia, Spain.
I'm noob but I have something to share with you.
I had the same problem with my HTC Sensation with Vodafone Operator when I tried to unlock it. I flashed it with SC58 cleaning system and then I tested my sensation with Movistar and Orange SIMs, result -> No signal.
I have solved it changing flight mode into normal mode sometimes (Restarting Signal activation) and waiting for two or three minutes in normal mode, after third change I got signal!!
Be patient and please search a place with good signal. Is very important search signal with rear cover mounted (GSM/3G Antenna is integrated on it).
I wish this help you!
Regards,
I received my HTC Sensation yesterday, and have been having terrible reception issues around my house. Mostly just getting "No Service", but then if I leave the phone sat for a few minutes, when I turn it on, there's 4 bars of signal, and without touching the phone, I sit and watch it disappear down to "No Service". WTF.
I was going to send it back after reading ALL the complaints about this issue with the sensation, but I had an epiphany... If the back cover is the Aerial (Antenna for you yanks ;-) what if it's just not connecting correctly?
In the back of the phone there's several gold contacts that connect to the back cover, I decided to just prise them up a little bit so they made better contact. After very carefully lifting each one by just a fraction of a millimetre the result was astounding! I now get about 3 bars CONSTANT signal (even when making a call) where before I would get "No Service".
I'll see how it goes for the rest of the day, but if this has fixed the poor signal problem I'll be so happy. I wasn't at all happy about having to send back my shiny new phone just before Christmas.
Hope this helps someone with similar issues.
Hi there
I have tried using the s58 unlock method. My phone is no longer rejecting the sim, but it will not make calls or send texts using my "Virgin UK" sim. it will, however, access the HSDPA data stream.
Points about the phone:
It was originally locked to "3UK" (H3G)
S/N: SH16JV802292
it is s-off, rooted and CWM is installed.
I am trying to use it on "Virgin UK". I have also tried an o2 sim, to no avail.
It will acces the Virgin network, shows signal strength and everything.
but only the internet is working.
I have tried Cyanogenmod7, BlackIce, XE stock, and original stock with the latest radio installed.
I have only bought this phone as a toy, and am willing to use it for any "guinea pig" tests or procedures which you might be able to offer.
Thanks for your time guys.

Hi - I have the same issue. Have you found a solution for this.
Hi
I would like to add my experience of this...
I bought my sensation (unloacked) about 7 or 8 months ago and immediately rooted it and loaded the Revolution HD 6.7 ROM, etc. and upgraded thebattery to an Anker.
My phone worked perfectly from that point. Now suddenly about 2 weeks ago I started getting problems with 'No service' and 'No SIM installed'. I tried all the tricks like the piece of tape on the back of the sim to hold it more securely, I wiped all the contacts on the reverse of the phone and inside cover and prised the contact up a little to make sure.
But what i found was that if I was playing a game on phone it started to get very hot and all the heat is around where the sim and sd card are held. The the signal would be lost and rebooting would not cure it and sometimes the reboot made it go from 'no service' to 'no sim iunstalled'. In fact last night the same thing happened. My phone had just been chaged to 100%, I play a game for about 10 minutes and the signal was lost. I rebooted a few times and the phone is really hot. The battery went from 100% to 70%. almost instantly. I switched it off and left it over night. This morning I switched it on and the signal was back and the phone at normal temperature and the battery was now at 50%.
So it seems the phone is overheating and this is causing problems with battery draining or something.
I am wondering if I should flash a new radio but I am using recovery and I think it is not s-off (I think that is because of recovery) even though it is permanently rooted.
Anyway, I think this weekend I might upgrade to Revolution hd 7.2 and along the war flash a new radio (if this is possible).
Does anyone think the overheating is down to a fault or certain apps/games or down to the radio?
It's very frustrating when it happens. I am considering buying a Galaxy SIII for peace of mind as I can't have my phone playing up like this as my wife is pregnant and I need to be contactable.
Any thoughts?
Just after writing that post I went to check the phone using the #*#*4636#*#* code and my phone lost signal again. I went to aircraft mode on and the off and then the phone is saying 'no sim installed'.
I switched if off and left it for a while and when I switched it on it was fine. I went to check my gmail and it lost signal again.
I think this phone is now faulty. Any suggestions as to what I can try before I bin it? If I factory-reset it will I lose my custom ROM? Are there any benefits to doing the factory-reset?
FYI, I'm all sorted. It was the SIM.

[q] att htc vivid issue

Hi I am using the ATT HTC VIVID
I bought this phone last Nov 11, and I stated noticing my phone was not receiving any calls if I stay at home(jersey city). If anyone calls to my number it will not connect at the same time it will not sent to voicemail also. It will say "call couldn't be completed".
After 2 months fight with ATT, they tried
1. they did a factory reset on my phone - it didn't help
2. changed the sim card - it didn't help
3. finally they replaced a another HTC vivid
even that didn't help
finally they said there was issue in near to my home and they fixed it.
now i a started receiving calls but now the issue i am having is, if I call to my number it will not connect first time it will go to voicemail, and second time if i try then it will ring. (First time also my phone is idle) This is happening randomly and ATT is not helping on this situation. As per them I am not able to replicate when they were testing on my phone.
Because of this issue I am missing calls which is making me really frustrated. After three week of research I found this is happening in not only near to my home its happening at my work place (NYC) and if I go around also its happening.
Can someone please give some advice to fix the issue that would be really great
Sounds like an issue that IMEI is conflicting :'(
Low end cheap bro.....
First of all, thanks for the response
But I am not getting the answer clearly
Can you please explain more and what should I do
Do I need to contact ATT or something

Q(ISSUE) Phone keeps dropping calls

So i have had this issue for a while now and sent the phone to htc twice and still no fixes. Problem is that when i make a call and i have any amount of coverage. The phone call would maybe last anything from 3minutes or more to 1 seconds. It just happens random. When it does happen i look back at the phone, and the coverage is completely gone and then a pop up message box comes up with preparing sim card.
Now i have swapped sim cards and got new sim cards from my provider with no fix. Its coming to the stage where the phone is only good for music, listening to radio, gaming and browsing the net.
Any body got any information regarding this.
You can try setting it to WCDMA only
in dialer, type:
*#*#4636#*#* and then Phone information

Already tried that. And the main reason why i wont send it back to htc is because after the third or fourth time you send the phone back, they will send you a new phone out. Which means me living in ireland i will get the s3 processor one s(which i dont want)

You can ask for the S4 version specifically, whilst on the telephone. If they don't have it, you can tell them that you don't want it repaired.
