I have an AT&T Galaxy SII Skyrocket that I'd like to use strictly has a portable media player. I'd like to continue to have access to Google Play. I flashed a phoneless ROM on my LG Optimus V and the results were fantastic... particularly with regard to battery life. I'm hoping for comparable results with the SGII Skyrocket.
Are there any ROMs available for the SGII Skyrocket that have the phone functionality removed? (I've found that this is different than simply putting the phone into airplane mode)
In a word...
No.
Sorry sir.

Hi all (first post ),
I was a happy FreeRunner user until it was stolen
Now I'm looking for another hackable phone.
Many points me to the Nexus One, but by reading the forums I see that it's not the only one which is rootable, it's just that the vendor make it easy.
I'd like a phone which can run custom images (all system on SD is better) and have a AMOLED screen with high resolution (I was used to 640x480).
It does not matter what OS it runs as long as I can change it without losing too much functionality (e.g. everything but 3d acceleration/wifi is ok). I'd like to run Meego one day.
I don't mind a hardware keyboard.
I'd like something which is more on ~400 $ than $500, even less if possible.
Minimal accessories is some sort of camera, 3g and good gps.
I looked at the wiki (when it was still working) but it's really tedious to search for prices/possibility to hack for every phone.
Thank you for the tips.
Galaxy s3
Get the Galaxy s3.
Galaxy Nexus
I would recommend the 32GB Galaxy Nexus. They keep up on software updates. I was looking at the S3, but I am not a fan of touchwiz and some other features of the phone. The Galaxy series is the best on the market, so you really can't go wrong with either.
What phone service do you have? Or are you looking for like unlocked?
Samsung galaxy nexus,GalaxySII or Galaxy R

Hello
I'm a proud owner of a Galaxy S I9000 and I know how a custom ROM can greatly increase a phone's value (when it comes to performance and user experience).
I'm considering buying a phone as a gift, but I'm not rich enough to get another SGS, so I thought a "budget" Android device (Wildfire, Optimus One, X8 etc.) would be the best option.
Can you recommend a popular phone, one with lots of available hacks, tweaks, ROMs etc.? Hardware specifications aren't that important.
Thanks
Me thread be gettin' no love
Is there anything similar I missed while searching?

Hello all,
Currently I have a LG Phoenix which is ok for everyday use but I somewhat regret getting this phone now. Luckily... I pay for the family plan and I can give this phone to my sister and use her upgrade to get a new phone.
Now here's the delimma. I don't want to be in this situation where I hate my phone again... So I wanted to see what your recommendations were.
I use my phone for basic things such as email, text, calls, etc etc. I also use it to play some games, surf the web, listen to music, etc etc. My biggest gripe with the LG Phoenix is the internal 160 MB of space. Even by moving apps to the SD card, the memory fills up way too fast. Also, there seems to be very very little interest in this phone in terms of custom roms and such (which in my knowlege means if AT&T doesn't roll out that gingerbread update, I'm stuck with Froyo).
So... to the question.
Which AT&T phone would you recommend and why?
Thanks everyone,
I am currently looking myself in which phone to get. I narrow my choices down to Motorola Atrix or Samsung Galaxy S II.
Atrix has Froyo, GSII has Gingerbread. The features is what I like on both.
Samsung Galaxy S II
Hm..... I guess I should have specified that I am not looking to get the Galaxy s2 II due to it costing 200 on contract. (I'm paying for the family plan and I'm in college so... tuition > me)
I do like the atrix but I haven't seen any support or development out for the atrix 2. Which is why I'm a bit heasitant. Does Motroloa plan on killing off the atrix with the atrix 2? Things of that nature.

so I am getting a new phone, i have en evo 4g that i love but am thinking it is time to upgrade. my choices are moto. photon 4g, galaxy sii 4g, nexus s 4g, or another evo 4g. i do not want the evo 3d or design (dont like em). i am concerned about dev support, for rooting, & custom rom's. I like the hdmi port on my evo, but it's not a deal breaker.
i'd like some thoughts from the community on their experience with these phones and why they chose it over the others.
mods sorry if this is the wrong section, this is my first post.
thanks,
Jack
Out of all of them the GS II would be the best choice. Nexus S has more development because it's a Nexus, but its behind now in it's specs. I'm sure of how popular the GS line, it should have good development and its current in it's specs.
best chooise is sgs 2
GS2
please hit the thank you button
Most definitely the SGS2... both for the average user and the avid ROM flasher.
It is the best phone I have ever gotten right out of the box. I'm just stubborn lol
Nexus. Cause tw really isn't my thing.
-My life is a shooting range, people never change-
I bought the SGS II (Epic Touch) on release day and I've had a blast with this thing. the specs are top notch and we're getting more developers by the day. Got the CM team working on a port (or so I've heard) and people working on ICS and MIUI (if that's your thing).
Got no-touchwiz roms too for those who don't like it.
And since the EL12 update got leaked, no more Loss of Signal bug and no more Game Crash bug either.
I was considering switching from it to the Evo 3D or Photon for awhile, but now that the problems are fixed (much faster than we all expected over there), I've got no reason to.
SGS II FTW
Well I went with the SGSII: E4GT (that is one long #@$&'ing name). I am loving it. Got it rooted, first went with tnz Blend ROM, very nice smooth ROM. I didnt think it could get better, then I found Phantom Hacker's Blazer ROM. I'm on v4.0, odexed, with the stock EL29 kennel, running the FB15 modem and its great so smooth and fast. Going to flash the Gunslinger v1.4.1 kennel next.
Being new to this phone and flashing, I learned something that someone may find helpful as its not always talked about. I don't know if it is ROM specific, but when you do a full wipe, an easier way to restore your data is to go into CWM recovery, restore, advanced options, and restore your data from your nandroid back up. It works allot better for me than TB, at least with Blazer v4..0.
A always do your research before doing anything. This XDA community has been great!

Hey guys,
I have been using my Captivate as my only phone for almost 3 years. Recently I acquired a DROID RAZR for the low low price of $free.99.
Now the Captivate is in good condition and has a 3300mah extended battery. So I want to keep it as solely a music player. Is there a bare minimum ROM I can use? Something very light weight?
The only thing I may want is wi-fi, so I can stream Pandora. I don't need this phone for phone calls, texting, etc.
Let me know if there are any ROMs out there for this. The Captivate is currently running CM10.1.

Here is a rom dubbed the Captivate Touch which I believe gets rid of all the radios and band signals so it isnt looking for cell signals to connect to. Plus it doesnt have the phone and texting app but everything else. It is also based on CM 10.1

I think there are other roms but older versions of ones if you look further back in the pages.
Awesome. Thanks! Just what I was looking for.

If it weren't for not being able to use my old Cappy I just revived as a backup phone the Captivate Touch @jonnyg1097 shared would be just the thing.
There are plenty of ROMS, go to the dev sections and read and interact with the members there to make you own determination as to what ROM fits you best.
