I'm trying to access recovery by power + vol down, it starts booting but gives me an error (the android with a "!" signal) and I just can't access it anymore.
My device is not rooted yet, I'm with stock HC 3.2 US 8.6.5.9, is there a way to restore only the original recovery?

I thought the original Recovery restored the internal flash back to factory settings. Before flashing CWM Recovery I remember using it a few times. Am I thinking about the wrong thing?
Hi.
Just rooted my TF101 (B80) using ViperMod V4,5.
SU working fine, got root access and everything.
My only problem is that i cannot enter recovery mode. I get the android with the red triangle.
I press Volume- + power, then volume+ and it says:
"booting recovery kernel image"
After that i get the android with the triangle.
Any idea how to solve this problem?
What you see is the recovery, only it's the stock recovery.
To get cwm recovery, use RecoveryInstaller by Gnufabio. Just look in the theme app section

I have used the recoveryinstaller.apk and still the same result. Then i tried installing a recovery using rom manager but still the same.
Can i use adb shell dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 command?
P.S. I forgot to mention that i am on stock ICS ww.9.2.1.17

Yes (I think). I used basic root checker and it says that is rooted. It also ask for super user access for it.
Ok. Solved.
I re-downloaded the recovery installer and everything is ok now. Thanks
I had the issue where I had the constant recovery loop and had to manually cold-boot linux every time. Then I followed all the directions that supposedly fixed that and it seemed to work (I could boot straight to android from power off). Now I can't boot into recovery at all. It just hangs at the Asus logo if I choose "reboot into recovery" and it hangs at "booting recovery image" if I use volume down. CWM shows that my recovery image is installed but there is something preventing it from launching.
Is there a way to format the recovery partition and flash it again? I tried the CWM "erase recovery" and that didn't work.

I've got the same issue, can do what I want, but can't boot to recovery ... grrrr
Same issues with boot and recovery
I am experiencing the same issue too, except I can't boot into the OS either so I am not sure what to do... I'll read the epic noob guide as described above and if I don;t come right there i'll post a thread as my challenges are slightly different to what is already posted.

You have to hold the volume down at boot like you are booting to recovery, but then don't do anything and a menu to coldboot linux or to erase userdata comes up. Just wait and it will boot android.

After being rooted and flashing CWM instead of holding volume down+power.. just download this app from the market. Called: Transformer reboot to Recovery.
The app in your drawer icon is two blue arrows instead of orange and blue like the developers picture.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...recovery&rdid=com.transformer.recovery&rdot=1
Ive noticed alot of people having issues booting with Clockworkmod into recovery or using power down and selecting recovery. (unless its done by hand). That app is a direct way into recovery. Most ROMs ive seen do not enter recovery even when the option is present.
Here is gnufabio, Recovery Installer - flash CWM with a Click
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346180
after flashing use the Transformer reboot to Recovery app i listed above. Ive used it and it works.. i use the app to enter recovery all the time.
the problem started when i reboot my skyrocket then i entered CWM then i went to extras and " format /system " i just did it and reboot my device and it didn't turn on the samsung logo just appear and disappear every time i turn on the device
...
and now i can't enter CWM to flash a custom ROM ... can any one help me to enter it or recover my device
Why would you wipe your OS without flashing a new one? It won't boot because it has nothing to boot. Shut the phone off and boot into cwm manually.

Please tell me you didn't really do that.
The ONLY reason you should format /system is if you're installing a new ROM, and even then you should flash the ROM pre-reboot. Simply put, formatting /system erases the Android OS.
Check the stickies for info on re-flashing stock.

It depends on if your phone is US or Canadian. I think you should push both volume up and down plus power. Let go of power button as soon as phone vibrates, hold on to volume buttons until CWM shows up. There's no point to let them go when you see samsung/model number, sometimes it goes right to boot if you let go of the volumes to early. That's why i usually hold both of them down until i see CWM.
Hey all, i wiped my system in TWRP recovery and when i hold power, home, and vol down, i get to the TWRP splash screen but then i reboot. Any suggestions?
bump please help
So it will not boot into TWRP fully? How many times have you tried cuz if you rebooted accidentally after wiping system (I've done this), it takes a few tries.
Alternatively, you could Odin flash TWRP (file is in Open1your1eyes0 root thread) and try booting into TWRP then. This increments your flash counter.

No problem. You're saying its booting to the TWRP logo or booting to the Samsung logo? Just wanted to clarify.
Also, hold: power, home, and volume then once it boots release the power button. That seems to be the only way I can cold boot into recovery.

Yeah i hold home, power, and vol down, then it goes Samsung screen > Samsung Galaxy SIII screen > blue TWRP splash screen > reboot to system and freezes. And another thing, if i odin flash this TWRP, will it wipe internal storage by any chance? Its happened one too many times to me

Hmm, weird. What were you doing before which led to this?
Nope, it doesn't wipe internal storage. Just overwrites your recovery partition. When Odin reboots your phone, pull the battery then try booting straight to TWRP. If you still can't boot into recovery try the same steps but flash CWM, flash a rom, and then reinstall TWRP via GooManager.

Just flashed it and it still wouldn't fully boot TWRP. I'm about to try CWM now. What happened was i came from LiquidSmooth AOSP and I was ready to flash Hyperdrive Touchwiz so I wiped all the partitions and flashed the zip. The Aroma Installer froze before it started so i battery pulled and figured I'd retry. It wouldn't boot and now I'm where I am now.

My Moto G is a german Retail Version.
Yesterday i've discovered that stock recovery under US GLOBAL RETAIL KK doesn't work anymore. Green Android with red warning sign. Everything else was working fine. So today i went back to my country specific jelly bean firmware and stock recovery also was fine again.
Now i've sideloaded the german OTA update for KitKat via ADB. And again, the stock recovery doesn't work.
What could be the matter?
Someone else here with the same problems?
Not that I wish to sound condescending, but are you aware how stock recovery usually works? Static image that turns to a menu when you press power and volume up?
mine moto g is similiar
I have similiar question.
when I'm running fastboot there are this choices:
Normal powerup, Recovery, Factory, Switch console, Barcodes, BP tools
when I choose anything it will just power up the phone as normal powerup
Are you using volume up to choose?
yes

It doesn't work for me either. I have UK retail device flashed to 4.4.2 US retail.
Did you use TWRP recovery to install SuperSU maybe?

Not a problem for me. But i know how to use the stock recovery menu on the moto g.
I've used it to sideload the KitKat OTA update. The matter is that it doesn't work under KitKat anymore.

Looks like the same problem. And i doesn't use any custom recovery to push root on the device.
But after i'm going back to my country specific (jelly bean) firmware, also the stock recovery works again.
And i was able to sideload the KK OTA via ADB. System runs perfectly after that. But the stock recovery doesn't work again.

Have had the same issue on 4.3 , i went to recovery with adb: abd reboot recovery. Also on 4.4.2 i can`t get into recovery by pressing volume up and the power button, it boots up every time.
Powerbutton is wrong, you have to choose an entry with volume down and then press Volumen up to accept it.

if you have a custom recovery on 4.4.2 you must flash the motoboot from 4.3

Thru Bootloader, if you choose !!stock!!recovery with Volume Up it is really that the recovery just's shows the Android with a red Sign on it. No Menu no nothing. That happend only since the KitKat OTA.
And then 2hipso is right : Holding both Volumes + power for just 1-2 seconds shows the Menu.
plus : They finally fixed the order od the Menu as it seems.
How do you Boot into recovery? Over ADB?

I have the same problem on a french moto G. I sideloaded kitkat and now I can't boot into recovery. Not with the power/volume button, not with the booloader and not with adb ....
