My Moto G is a german Retail Version.
Yesterday i've discovered that stock recovery under US GLOBAL RETAIL KK doesn't work anymore. Green Android with red warning sign. Everything else was working fine. So today i went back to my country specific jelly bean firmware and stock recovery also was fine again.
Now i've sideloaded the german OTA update for KitKat via ADB. And again, the stock recovery doesn't work.
What could be the matter?
Someone else here with the same problems?
Not that I wish to sound condescending, but are you aware how stock recovery usually works? Static image that turns to a menu when you press power and volume up?
mine moto g is similiar
I have similiar question.
when I'm running fastboot there are this choices:
Normal powerup, Recovery, Factory, Switch console, Barcodes, BP tools
when I choose anything it will just power up the phone as normal powerup
Are you using volume up to choose?
yes

It doesn't work for me either. I have UK retail device flashed to 4.4.2 US retail.
Did you use TWRP recovery to install SuperSU maybe?

Not a problem for me. But i know how to use the stock recovery menu on the moto g.
I've used it to sideload the KitKat OTA update. The matter is that it doesn't work under KitKat anymore.

Looks like the same problem. And i doesn't use any custom recovery to push root on the device.
But after i'm going back to my country specific (jelly bean) firmware, also the stock recovery works again.
And i was able to sideload the KK OTA via ADB. System runs perfectly after that. But the stock recovery doesn't work again.

Have had the same issue on 4.3 , i went to recovery with adb: abd reboot recovery. Also on 4.4.2 i can`t get into recovery by pressing volume up and the power button, it boots up every time.
Powerbutton is wrong, you have to choose an entry with volume down and then press Volumen up to accept it.

if you have a custom recovery on 4.4.2 you must flash the motoboot from 4.3

gee, to get to recovery your phone need to be turned off and then you must hold three buttons (power button and both volume buttons) for a few seconds

@ makcode: Yes, i know. But I'm on stock recovery.

Thru Bootloader, if you choose !!stock!!recovery with Volume Up it is really that the recovery just's shows the Android with a red Sign on it. No Menu no nothing. That happend only since the KitKat OTA.
And then 2hipso is right : Holding both Volumes + power for just 1-2 seconds shows the Menu.
plus : They finally fixed the order od the Menu as it seems.
How do you Boot into recovery? Over ADB?

I have the same problem on a french moto G. I sideloaded kitkat and now I can't boot into recovery. Not with the power/volume button, not with the booloader and not with adb ....
I dont think the reason is sideloading the OTA-Update. I had have the same Problem on the Global US bevore

well... maybe a bug

Hi,
My wife has upgrade I think the incorrect version of ics 4.0.3 stock because when I try to go to the recovery by press power button and volume up the system crash. It seems that the bootloader is of 9020 instead of her 9023.
So I can't root or install cyanogenmod 9.
Any solutions?
Thanks.

but that i9020KL1 if i remember it correct, is for both 9023 and 9020A/T , but can only boot up ICS system but can't boot GB system.

You can fastboot flash recovery.img again, then flash rom CM9. You can go to recovery.
I think rom stock can not flash recovery.

Try flashing a new recovery from the bootloader before you choose recovery.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Hi everybody, I recently rooted and installed ClockWorkMod through ROM Manager on my Moto G. I was going to flash Cyanogenmod 11 but CWM didn't recognized root for some reason. So I unrooted the phone and kept CWM because I couldn't find the stock recovery. Yesterday I decided to try flashing Cyanogenmod again but I also wanted to reflash CWM because mines wouldn't dectect root so I plugged it into my PC, ran the 1-click installer for CWM and when I boot to recovery it boots into Fastboot instead and boots into Android 5 seconds later no matter what I select. Can anyone help me fix this problem?
Thanks

I flashed CWM through fastboot but still nothing. I held down power and volume down to get into recovery but instead it went into fastboot and when I select Recovery it boots into Android. BTW I'm on 4.4.2 GPe.
Did you try flashing supersu through cwm? That should root it

I've actually decided to factory reset and start from scratch but the phone keeps rebooting when i try to reset it. I guess that means new Moto G

You do know that when you make your selection when in recovery you use volume up to select, not power

I just reflashed the moto g stock recovery using moto tool so that I can flash the official 4.4.3(I was using TWRP before). But the thing is that when I reboot to stock recovery, there is this dead android logo but no options like wipe, apply update etc.Shouldn't these options be present in the stock recovery or did I do something wrong?I cannot tell if the recovery is working or not.

I don't think the stock recovery is supposed to have these options anyway... I think it does all the work when you apply an update in the settings... It automatically reboots to recovery and installs to make sure that users don't do it themselves.

It has wipe data/apply update options. When you see the dead android, you have to press the vol up button for 10-15 secs then tap the power button to get into the recovery.

Got my new Oneplus One and rooted it. (CM Version 11.0 xnph25r?). But, when I press Vol Down + Power, it just bootloops into a never ending TWRP logo screen. When I press Vol Up + Power I get a picture of a small Penguin! If I press the Power button by itself it boots normally. So basically my phone works, but I seem unable to boot into recovery mode (which scares the heck out of me). Can anyone venture a guess as to what is going on?
Thanks!

Use fastboot flash another recovery, or redownload another TWRP recovery. Personally I use PhilZ Touch.
I also flashed philz recovery and it is working great, if you can't manually install recovery there are plenty of oneplus toolkits on these forums that just need fastboot.

Thanks. I'll try that and rport back tomorrow!
Yes use a toolkit from here and install philz recovery. All should be good

I wiped everything - including the OS-- and can only get the "penguin" when holding Vol UP + Power.
Anyone want to buy a nice looking paperweight?
I truly feel sorry for you, so no fastboot at all? And did you try different Oneplus One toolkits?

no fastboot at all...jeez
pouring myself a large drink now!
Maybe you can talk with a Oneplus Rep and tell them you received a phone that would never boot up? I just read on a XDA forum that if you hold you power button for 30 seconds 5 times it will reset a certain chip. It actually worked for a couple people. I would give it a try if I was you.

Hey no worries, I was in same situation as u. I fixed mine. I will write instructions for u later. I'm at work rite now.
Sent from my One using Tapatalk
The penguin IS the fastboot. So this is what u do (having properly installed ADB and have android SDK):
First in android SDK folder go to platform tools where fastboot.exe is located. Download the proper TWRP recovery and name it "recovery.img" and place it in this folder. Also In here hold shift and right click on a clear area, from the menu choose "open CMD here". Now turn off ur phone and after hold power+volm UP to boot into fastboot mode. Connect phone to PC and in CMD type "oem unlock" then type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img". This should flash the twrp recovery. Now turn off phone and hold volume DOWN +power to boot into twrp. U can flash w.e ROM u want in this recovery now.

Ive been trying to update to 5.1, it was rooted with 5.0.1 and Team win
ive tried up update with the flash all but that just had plenty of errors ( error cant load/doesnt exisit )
then i tried to use fastboot, fastboot flash radio, system, bootloader, userdata etc
now its just been showing the boot sequence for quite a while
ive tried repeating the fastboot comands after re-settning it and going into the boot laoder but no luck
recovery results in the dead android screen
The dead Android is the stock recovery. When you see it press and hold power, then press and release vol up. Do a factory reset in the stock recovery.
