GT-N5100 After 4.2.2 Update MultimediaDock not recognized - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Accessories

Hi
Today i make the official update to 4.2.2 on my 5100.
After this my Samsung Multimedia Dock wont work. Neither HDMI nor Mass Storage (USB flash drive) is recognized.
Thats really annoying because i need the dock for my work (Presentations with VGA adapter and Mouse)!
Would anyone confirm this problem?
Have anyone a solution?
Thanks for answering!

Sorry for that!
But i am looking around in this section and there are a lot of questions.
Im thinking too, that it was a important information for users that it could be problems with accessories like the multimedia dock after a update.

Yep, Confirmed.
Multimedia Dock only working as a charging dock now with 4.2.2
Can't even sync with it.
Went back to 4.1.2 because of this and all is working fine again.

You have to install them while the card is NOT connected. After you installed them, connect the card. As you can read in the post I linked to I had to install them several times myself and reboot before I did not get that device not recognized anymore. After that it seemed to work.....

It´s not working for me.
Did you meen the Sim-Card not to Connect.
If I right understand you, I have to plug in the Docking (with Power Chord on) without connected to my carrier?
Thanks for answering!

Maybe he means the usb cable. ( cord? )

Back to 4.1.2
And all is working again!
Sincerely, the 4.2 update was a bad choice. Samsung should make a better update. I'm not spitting on it, but no Smart Dock mode?
I'm hopefull that Samsung will launch a bugfix for that.

More than half year passed since that problem appeared with the 4.2.2 update.... Is there any solution to use the multimedia dock on 4.2.2 or only the downgrade can help?

You need a kernel with dock support enabled.
There are some configurations to change while compile new kernel:
CONFIG_MUIC_MAX77693_SUPPORT_OTG_AUDIO_DOCK=y
CONFIG_MUIC_MAX77693_SUPPORT_SMART_DOCK=y
CONFIG_MUIC_MAX77693_SUPPORT_CAR_DOCK=y
I compiled my own kernel and use a cable made to support simultaneos charge and otg.
If you want, send a message and I will sent my kernel.

I wonder how the adapter I've got off eBay^ works then. As long as I do plug in power + USB before the HDMI, I get screen off, charging, and USB host and MHL output. Although the only way I can trickle charger rather than slowly drain is by using the 3A charger from my Chromebook instead of a regular 2A charger.

Do you have a smart dock enabled kernel for 4.4.2?

I would also be interested in a KitKat Kernel that's working with the dock...

I just updated to 4.4.2 and lost docking ability. Will it be possible to use your kernel for an SGH-I467 from AT&T, the boot loader is locked...I don't know of a method to unlock it. Please advise. Thank you:good:

Any further update to our device?

usbOTG on 3.2.2

I'm running the latest HC 3.2.2 due to having my LTE modem upgraded. It is rooted and I've tried using Drive Mount and USB Watcher to get my HDD recognized through usbOTG. It seemed to work fine before but now I can't get it to work.
A few times I've been able to see the HDD in one of the two mounting programs but then it disappears. The HDD turns off (the lights go off) after 20-30 seconds once it's recognized.
Has anybody on 3.2.2 been able to get their usbOTG to recognize? My SD card currently points to External1. Could that be an issue?

the micro sdcard should be at mnt/external1. That is correct. I suggest you flash the Tiamat Odachi kernel 2.2.0 on your rooted 4G Xoom. That should return any OTG functionality you may have lost. This kernel is the only one I know of that was expressly made for and known to be working well on the 4G Xoom. Team Rogue may have also been working on a 4G kernel. Just don't try to flash any custom ROMs until ICS is ported.
Well I tried with latest TIAMAT kernel as well as ROGUE kernel and both give me the same result. Neither drivemount nor usb watcher otg seems to recognize the HDD.
I appreciate the help. Just can't seem to figure out why it's not working. It worked great on Tiamat rom.

Well, I have wifi only and you can see my configuration in my signature line, but on the Odachi kernel I just mounted my 750GB Passport HDD. I used USB Mass Storage Watcher. Works like a charm. I think the newest kernel install overwrites the kernel in the ROM and the kernel controls this hardware stuff, right?
Hello everyone, happy Thanksgiving. How can I use this feature on my Xoom without rooting it? Can someone help me please.
P.S. I have not purchased the OTG cable yet. I need more info before buying one.
Thank you.

Unfortunately, the usb host mode is only available for a rooted Xoom with a custom kernel that gives this functionality. Otherwise the microusb port is only for connecting to your pc.
Why not root?

I find that even with root and either Katana or Odachi I cannot get usbOTG to work with a portable HDD. I'm on 3.2.2.

Try this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798
It should help. There's a modified adb setup link that has you only download just what you need for root...but the guide really walks you through everything.
I had it working on an earlier Tiamat build and kernel. But since the 4G update it's been a no go.

[How to] UN-ROOT Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 [GT-P5113 / 5100 / 5110]

This Root Remover has been tested with the Samsung Galaxy Tab2 10.1, Model GT-P5113.
REQUIREMENT: You must have root using the procedure at [How To] ROOT Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 [GT-P5113 / 5100 / 5110]
• After you download this file, move it the root of your external SD card( /mnt/extSdCard ). This is the micro sdcard you insert in tablet slot. Your /mnt/sdcard folder is internal memory (not recognized in CWM recovery).
• Reboot into CWM (recovery) using Quick Boot app or
• Power OFF your tablet, disconnect from computer and restart in recovery (CWM) by pushing and holding POWER & Volume DOWN/LEFT buttons at same time. When Samsung Tab 2 10.1 logo appears, you can release power button but continue holding volume button for a few more seconds. Note: If you've done this on other Samsung devices, you will notice that it takes longer before blue CWM v5.5.0.4 text appears ... just be patient.
• Once you are in recovery, use volume button (UP/DOWN/LEFT OR RIGHT) to move around andPOWER button to select an option.
Select install zip from sdcard. Choose Root_Remover file you already copied to root of sdcard.
When unrooting is finished, choose reboot system now from CWM menu.
By downloading this file you understand and agree that you bear all responsibility for the use and anything it may do to your tablet.
DOWNLOAD
Root_Remover.zip
Unrooting does NOT reset the download counter (developers are still working on that).
As soon as I or another developer figure out how to reset the counter on this device,
I will post information HERE.
Keep in mind that at least three Tab2 10.1 variations exist around the world.
BE PATIENT. As with prior Androids, a solution will come.
Enjoy,
Glenn

I still haven't taken the dive in rooting this tablet yet (its my mom's and I want to make sure that if/when something breaks we can return it under warranty). This gets me 1 step closer though. Once we can figure out the download counter then I'm 100% in!
Yes, it would be great if the counter could be resetted. On the Samsung Galaxy S2 there is only a little USB stick, which have to be putted into the power slot on the phone. Then the phone boots and the counter will be resetted... Why there is no such a trick on the Tab?

Yes, would be nice if it were that easy. I have the USB jig for my SGS2 smartphone. If I can get an adapter from the SGS2 microUSB male plug to the Tab2 connnector plug, I intend to try it on my tablet.
If ANYBODY knows where i can purchase an adapter with a female microUSB port that converts it to standard USB 2.0, PLEASE post or PM me so i can try my SGS2 reset jig with my GT-P5113 to see if it will reset the download counter to zero. Thanks!
For the record, I tried using Cheatman's Triangle Away app Versions 1.1, 1.25 and 1.51 but with no success.

Well I did some searching and the closest thing I can find is a Micro to Mini adapter on Ebay Here or Here. You'd then have to get a Mini to USB adapater... It would be a pain but it just doesn't look like they make a mini that converts to a full-fledged USB.

Thanks. I found the same. If I can verify the pin designations for the tab2 10.1 as being similar to my SGS2 phone, I will try jumping the USB2.0 end of my tab2 cable with a resisitor to see if that works.
Plan B: If I can find a stock bootloader.bin file for GT-P5113 tablet, I can try resetting the download counter using ODIN to flash that file. I already tried installing the GT-P5110 bootloader via ODIN, and it would not connect or flash. As life has taught me many times "Quitters never win & winners never quit" so I am determined to find a solution!

Unless counter says zero you may not be able to get any service if/when needed
because Samsung can refuse to honor the factory warranty. It's that simple. However, this tablet is my 4th Android tablet and I've never needed any service on ANY of them. All my former tablets have been sold or given away as gifts and ALL still work perfectly.

Okay... Cuz I haven't rooted mine yet, but I may considering pulling the stock bootloader... Though I really don't want to mess with the bootloader...
Since it was from Best Buy is there really any worry about the Odin counter just in case something DOES happen with my tablet after root? I've heard some people say Best Buy doesn't check Odin...
My Samsung phone used the recovery root method so the counter still says "NO"...

Based on my experiences and feedback from friends, odds are 70/30 in your favor with Best Buy. I know it's just a matter of time before I get my hands on the stock bootloader.bin file or we get a version of TriangleAway for this tablet.
What's interesting to me is that only about 1 in 10 people who root their tablets seem to even care about being able to unroot it and i've yet to meet anyone who has needed service of any kind on a Tab2.

Android does support USB modems.
It just needs an USB port that is in host mode. Also some kernel/ramdisk modification needs to be done.
I am using a huawei e153 USB modem on my advent Vega tablet. No problems.
But as I said, it will no work on stock kernel, it needs the correct RIL, references t the ril and a recompilation of android with phone features enabled.

most chinese tablets comes with included drivers for usb modems (generally huawey 3g sticks) so it is possible, at least in theory.
dunno if they are linked to some framework or if they are easy to port to other roms.

[Q] Seek Thermal camera on Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

Hi guys
Here is my problem: I upgraded my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5113 to Kitkat 4.4.4
That was a requirement for installing the Seek Thermal Camera that I am having trouble with (please Google it I am not allowed to post links yet)
The other requirement that someone from support indicated to me was OTH USB which Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 seems to have
I used a micro USB cable to connect the camera to the table.
So right know I have the software installed and the camera connected but ..the software can not see it
My tablet is rooted. Is there any way I can debug this and see if actually the kernel sees this new thermal camera ?
thanks a lot

The camera does not require the tablet to be rooted. debugging that might require that but I don't see your point.

Yes I am trying to use it this way
Here is what the developer told me
Ryan (Seek Thermal)
Nov 06 10:22
The basic requirements that can prevent download are 4.3 or newer Android and a rear-facing native camera. The USB OTG functionality, as well as the USB port providing power to OTG attached devices, will not block download, but the camera won't connect. Ideally we would block downloads by USB OTG functionality, but tha tis not an option in Android right now.
Ryan
Seek Support
So you need to revert to a stone age rom in order to use a gadget that is not really supported by an android tablet, and the developer will tell you a bunch of double talk so you don't return the gadget costing him a profit.
"And a rear facing native camera " will prevent download?
What does he mean by "prevent download "?
Does that mean that app won't function?
You need to download samsung stock firmware, and flash with Odin (may need to do factory reset also ) if it doesn't work after first odin flash.
I would test before rooting.

So you need to revert to a stone age rom in order to use a gadget that is not really supported by an android tablet, and the developer will tell you a bunch of double talk so you don't return the gadget costing him a profit.
"And a rear facing native camera " will prevent download?

Nope he was dumb ..actually he wanted to say that if you have something older than 4.3 you can't install the app
The rear facing camera was unclear to me.
I am going to but a cable and test this in an emulator
I suspect that my cable can be the right one but it does not take the OTG power from the tablet to the other end of the cable...
I did not make sure that the cable was OTG, I thought that only the port is that way. Not sure how I can verify this
Don't think cable has to be OTG specific, if the voltage is present to power a device the cable will work. You may need to find out what pin on connector is supposed to be hot for OTG and test.

USB OTG problem

Hello, i'm having a problem about my phone not recognizing my external keyboard. The keyboard is working on my computer and it used to work on my phone then suddenly my phone cant recognize it anymore although it gives power to it. Not sure if it's the OTG cable or my phone in general.

Have you changed anything about the device between when it worked and now?
Does the kernel the device has now support OTG?

You haven't applied any stock updates or anything? If it worked before then you've changed something in settings or something if you haven't updated the device.
It would help if you posted your device model number and the stock firmware version/build number that your device has. Then I can help you troubleshoot through the required steps for your device.

You are missing the point about the update.
I'm asking if the device has what it had when you bought it or has it had a stock update applied at any time? If it was on one version when you bought it and the keyboard worked at that time but has had a stock update since then and now the keyboard isn't working then that could be what is giving you problems.
Have you also checked the language and input setting to see if you have the physical keyboard enabled?
