[How to] UN-ROOT Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 [GT-P5113 / 5100 / 5110] - Galaxy Tab 2 10.1" Android Development

This Root Remover has been tested with the Samsung Galaxy Tab2 10.1, Model GT-P5113.
REQUIREMENT: You must have root using the procedure at [How To] ROOT Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 [GT-P5113 / 5100 / 5110]
• After you download this file, move it the root of your external SD card( /mnt/extSdCard ). This is the micro sdcard you insert in tablet slot. Your /mnt/sdcard folder is internal memory (not recognized in CWM recovery).
• Reboot into CWM (recovery) using Quick Boot app or
• Power OFF your tablet, disconnect from computer and restart in recovery (CWM) by pushing and holding POWER & Volume DOWN/LEFT buttons at same time. When Samsung Tab 2 10.1 logo appears, you can release power button but continue holding volume button for a few more seconds. Note: If you've done this on other Samsung devices, you will notice that it takes longer before blue CWM v5.5.0.4 text appears ... just be patient.
• Once you are in recovery, use volume button (UP/DOWN/LEFT OR RIGHT) to move around andPOWER button to select an option.
Select install zip from sdcard. Choose Root_Remover file you already copied to root of sdcard.
When unrooting is finished, choose reboot system now from CWM menu.
By downloading this file you understand and agree that you bear all responsibility for the use and anything it may do to your tablet.

Root_Remover.zip
Unrooting does NOT reset the download counter (developers are still working on that).
As soon as I or another developer figure out how to reset the counter on this device,
I will post information HERE.
Keep in mind that at least three Tab2 10.1 variations exist around the world.
BE PATIENT. As with prior Androids, a solution will come.
Enjoy,
Glenn

Thanks welton!
I still haven't taken the dive in rooting this tablet yet (its my mom's and I want to make sure that if/when something breaks we can return it under warranty). This gets me 1 step closer though. Once we can figure out the download counter then I'm 100% in!

Yes, it would be great if the counter could be resetted. On the Samsung Galaxy S2 there is only a little USB stick, which have to be putted into the power slot on the phone. Then the phone boots and the counter will be resetted... Why there is no such a trick on the Tab?

Yes, would be nice if it were that easy. I have the USB jig for my SGS2 smartphone. If I can get an adapter from the SGS2 microUSB male plug to the Tab2 connnector plug, I intend to try it on my tablet.
If ANYBODY knows where i can purchase an adapter with a female microUSB port that converts it to standard USB 2.0, PLEASE post or PM me so i can try my SGS2 reset jig with my GT-P5113 to see if it will reset the download counter to zero. Thanks!
For the record, I tried using Cheatman's Triangle Away app Versions 1.1, 1.25 and 1.51 but with no success.

Thanks for your work!

Well I did some searching and the closest thing I can find is a Micro to Mini adapter on Ebay Here or Here. You'd then have to get a Mini to USB adapater... It would be a pain but it just doesn't look like they make a mini that converts to a full-fledged USB.

Thanks. I found the same. If I can verify the pin designations for the tab2 10.1 as being similar to my SGS2 phone, I will try jumping the USB2.0 end of my tab2 cable with a resisitor to see if that works.
Plan B: If I can find a stock bootloader.bin file for GT-P5113 tablet, I can try resetting the download counter using ODIN to flash that file. I already tried installing the GT-P5110 bootloader via ODIN, and it would not connect or flash. As life has taught me many times "Quitters never win & winners never quit" so I am determined to find a solution!

Important of counter reset
Sorry for the noob question, but what will happen if we can not reset the counter to 0 i see so many people are talking abt it how important is this "counter reset" stuff?
edit: This is my first samsung device so i don´t know much abt it, am still learning.

Unless counter says zero you may not be able to get any service if/when needed
because Samsung can refuse to honor the factory warranty. It's that simple. However, this tablet is my 4th Android tablet and I've never needed any service on ANY of them. All my former tablets have been sold or given away as gifts and ALL still work perfectly.

Is there a way to pull the stock bootloader without rooting/adding to the Odin counter? So if someone out there was reading this and had stock they could supply you with it?

Good question. I normally find files like this using Root Explorer which is a Catch 22 or getting it from Samsung but they have not released GT-P5113 Stock files. Maybe someone reading this (who is smarter than me) will know of a way we can get it!

Okay... Cuz I haven't rooted mine yet, but I may considering pulling the stock bootloader... Though I really don't want to mess with the bootloader...
Since it was from Best Buy is there really any worry about the Odin counter just in case something DOES happen with my tablet after root? I've heard some people say Best Buy doesn't check Odin...
My Samsung phone used the recovery root method so the counter still says "NO"...

Based on my experiences and feedback from friends, odds are 70/30 in your favor with Best Buy. I know it's just a matter of time before I get my hands on the stock bootloader.bin file or we get a version of TriangleAway for this tablet.
What's interesting to me is that only about 1 in 10 people who root their tablets seem to even care about being able to unroot it and i've yet to meet anyone who has needed service of any kind on a Tab2.

Thanks,un-rooted,DLed and installed the update and rooted again in 1/2 hr. Worked great! 25 minutes was download time for the update via Kies.

[Q] Need help rooting Galaxy S 4G SGH-T959W from Wind

I have been trying to root the Samsung Galaxy S 4G from Canada's Wind Mobile. I wonder if anyone out there with Wind and this phone has any success. This phone is model SGH-T959W, which is different from the T-mobile SGH-T959V. I thought they were similar, but not really. This phone was just released in March 2012, and has the latest firmware.
Details:
Model no.: SGH-T959W
Firmwware ver.: 2.3.6
Baseband ver.: T959WUQLB6
Kernel ver.: 2.6.35.7-T959WUQLB6-CL965783
Build no.: GINGERBREAD.WUQLB6
I have successfully rooted several phones before and am good at following instructions. However, I have pretty much tried every method suggested on this Galaxy S forum with no success, including SuperOneClick, manually using ADB, Fastroot, Z4root, Samsung Kies Mini, Heimdall One-Click, etc. Some of them simply said "Failed", ADB and SuperOneClick seemed promising with progress messages for a couple minutes and then just hung forever. Kies Mini won't even recognize the phone even though it's a Samsung and I have updated all drivers.
My main goals of rooting the phone are to try to resolve the random shut-down issues that's been plaguing the Galaxy line of phones, and to run Titanium Backup. Eventually, I'd like to upgrade to ICS. I'd welcome any help.
thanks,
Billy
Unfortunately your phone is not supported on XDA. Do not use any flashing tools from this forum. You have a high risk chance of messing up your phone. Good luck.

Can someone push the kies gingerbread tarball to mediafire or bittorrent or something.
I'd like to collect a little more info.
I will also need someone with the phone to test for me. You need to be familiar with and running linux.
I don't play well with windows and may need to remote to your linux box and get on the phone.
Hi bhundven,
Thanks for offering to help. I'm the OP of this thread. I'd like to help you help me, but I don't have a linux box nor familiar with linux. Also, what is "kies gingerbread tarball"?
I do have the phone that I can do the test for you, if you can show me what I have to do.
thanks,
Billy

Is there a Thank You button that I can click on to show my appreciation?
I have followed your link and read your other post on the 959W. A couple questions:
1, is the USB JIG a must? What does it do exactly?
2, I was not able to root the phone at all, by any of the methods found for the 959V on this forum. So, how do I upgrade to any other ROM's without rooting? Will the use of this JIG solve this issue?

The jig will force your phone into download mode no matter what, unless you are hard bricked. Its not necessarily a must but highly recommended.
I was in irc with bhundven and the other user and as long as you do not flash bootloaders using heimdall to flash something like the antonx one click kernel will get you root. Then you can flash any of the roms. Just remember dont EVER flash bootloaders until he can get a tarball and make a Heimdall one click for the 959W.
A good way to get root using heimdall is follow this post.

Werd. The only way the JIG will not work, is if you have hosed your bootloaders (specifically the SBL).
It would be awesome if someone got their T959W unbrickable modded, so we could play with bootloaders.
More so, it would be awesome if someone could get me a kies or leak tarball for me to mess with.

Some of the kernels do not install root to the rom. So you will also need to install a rom that comes with su (root).
Most of our current roms do, including cm7 and cm9.
Installing cm7 or cm9 should be the same as the instructions in the thread, but I'll reiterate this once.
Get the boot.img (see the cm7 or cm9 threads)
heimdall flash --kernel boot.img
Let the phone reboot. When you see the "Galaxy S" screen, pull the usb cable and pull the battery out of the phone.
Put the battery back in the phone. Put the backdoor back on the phone (so the battery doesn't fall out).
Hold the vol+ and the vol-, then hold the power button until you see the "Team Acid" screen. Then let go of only the power button.
When you see the clockwork mod recovery, let go of the volume buttons.
Plugin the usb cable and go to "Mounts & Storage" and enable usb storage. Copy the cm7 or cm9 zip file to your sdcard.
Don't forget to safely unmount the storage on your windows, mac, linux box before disconnecting the cable or unmounting usb storage on the phone.
Unmount usb storage on the phone.
Go back to the main menu.
Factory Reset & Wipe data
Install the cm7 or cm9 zip from the sdcard.
Report any issues on the cm7 or cm9 thread, ask any questions on the respective Q&A thread here in the Q&A forum.

so i bring my cellphone samsung T959W from canada!.
So I have been reading your posts from july when you said that you was comparing the differences between v and w version and i arrived to this post!
so I did this!:
1.- I download the sdk of android to put my cellphone in download mode
2.- I used heimdall press flash and wait until the samsung screen pull the cable and battery.
3.- press volume buttons and power button then I realize that now my cellphone when i turn on it says exclusive for t movile
and after i pressed volume buttons and power the acid screen didn't appear to me also when I'm in recovery mode there is no such option as install just the update option and when i try to put the cm9 it says that it couldn't confirm the signature
also if you need the tallbar or the thing you said... just let me know what to do! I'm noob in this kind of things!

I had never heard of "framaroot" before and I always like to know where software is coming from before I run it.
It looks like there is an XDA thread for it: [ROOT] Framaroot, a one-click apk to root some devices, which may have more recent versions, as well as ones that have come directly from the developer.

[Q] GT-P7560

Is anybody familiar with this model?
I want to install ICS on it, but unfortunately am at a loss here.
Some kind of 3.2 beta was installed to it and the "About device" settings menu stated that it was a GT-P6800.
Unfortunately Odin failed write a GT-P6800 firmware on it (PDA only).
It was only then that i noticed that it says product name GT-P7560 in the Download Mode. But I cannot find any firmware of that model.
Which firmware shall I use?

Why not do a factory reset and go from there. If that does not get you to where you want to go, give Samsung support a call.
Keep us posted on what ou find out.

iUnfortunately I can do neither soft nor hard reset.
Due to the failed attempt to install the wrong firmware the tablet does no longer boot.
And nothing happens when I try to access the recovery menu by pressing volume up and the power button.
But even if I was able to reset the device, this would not bring me closer to my ultimate goal of installing ICS on it.
Is there no firmware of another model similar enough to be flashed safely on this model?
Samsung Support would be my last shot.

You'd probably have to as garyd9 or another dev to give ClockWork Recovery support to your model number, install that, make a backup, then you can ask to have your model number added to the what they support in this thread

WiFi isn't working in the build, and other minor glitches.
Good luck?
While I personally think that CyanogenMod is great, it is no option in this case.
I need a stock rom.
Samsung gave us this device in order to test our apps on it.
Seems that it is some pre-release device or a device that never will be released.
I guess I will have to get in touch with Samsung support.
Update: The first Samsung Service Center rejected the device, stating that they do not handle unofficial devices.
At the second however (halfway across the city) they told me that they would have a look at it. The technician there said that the IMEI number printed on this device did not even exist.
By the way: I would like to thank all of you for your pieces of advice.

[Q] Galaxy s4 active root (question/concern)

Hey everyone, I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active (AT&T i537) running android 4.2.2
I've had this phone for a long time, and I'm feeling ready to root it. BUT every guide I've found on rooting it is either incredibly sketchy and unreliable, OR it's outdated by about a year. I have heard of Towelroot, but will it work correctly and safely on my device? Are there better/safer ways of rooting my device? I'm not too experienced with rooting, though I do respect its value and want to do it with this phone as I did with my previous one (Galaxy S3).

so better to check twice.
Otherwise the good old method to root via Odin :
1) switch off the phone
2) start in download mode (press volume down + home + power) then volume up
3) Connect your phone to your pc with the standard USB cable
4) start Odin
5) select CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.tar.md5 in the filed name PDA. I guess if you search around xda forum you will find it easily
6) check that tick is NOT set on "Re-partition"
7) clic start
Wait until your phone reboot ... et voilà
hope it helps

[Q] Seek Thermal camera on Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

Hi guys
Here is my problem: I upgraded my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5113 to Kitkat 4.4.4
That was a requirement for installing the Seek Thermal Camera that I am having trouble with (please Google it I am not allowed to post links yet)
The other requirement that someone from support indicated to me was OTH USB which Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 seems to have
I used a micro USB cable to connect the camera to the table.
So right know I have the software installed and the camera connected but ..the software can not see it
My tablet is rooted. Is there any way I can debug this and see if actually the kernel sees this new thermal camera ?
thanks a lot

I tried three micro USB extension cables. Two from EBAY did not work. Tablet did not detect camera.
One from Amazon (suggested by support) does work.

Well.....thanks but no thanks
If it takes us 2 days to get to the point of your questions (we are not even close to that) then I would prefer not to be helped this way
You could have said I need you to do this and that... if your tablet was not rooted correctly then this is not going to work.
The camera does not require the tablet to be rooted. debugging that might require that but I don't see your point.

So you are using this with a micro USB adapter?
Looking at the specs it doesn't mention "android tablet compatibility " except for eYepaDs .
Maybe that's why IT doesn't work?

Yes I am trying to use it this way
Here is what the developer told me
Ryan (Seek Thermal)
Nov 06 10:22
The basic requirements that can prevent download are 4.3 or newer Android and a rear-facing native camera. The USB OTG functionality, as well as the USB port providing power to OTG attached devices, will not block download, but the camera won't connect. Ideally we would block downloads by USB OTG functionality, but tha tis not an option in Android right now.
Ryan
Seek Support
So you need to revert to a stone age rom in order to use a gadget that is not really supported by an android tablet, and the developer will tell you a bunch of double talk so you don't return the gadget costing him a profit.
"And a rear facing native camera " will prevent download?
What does he mean by "prevent download "?
Does that mean that app won't function?
You need to download samsung stock firmware, and flash with Odin (may need to do factory reset also ) if it doesn't work after first odin flash.
I would test before rooting.

Nope he was dumb ..actually he wanted to say that if you have something older than 4.3 you can't install the app
The rear facing camera was unclear to me.
I am going to but a cable and test this in an emulator
I suspect that my cable can be the right one but it does not take the OTG power from the tablet to the other end of the cable...
I did not make sure that the cable was OTG, I thought that only the port is that way. Not sure how I can verify this
Don't think cable has to be OTG specific, if the voltage is present to power a device the cable will work. You may need to find out what pin on connector is supposed to be hot for OTG and test.

[Q] Hard Bricked S3 Verizon 4.4.2

ON: Galaxy S3 4.4.2 Verizon(d2vzw) -->OK, I know you all may think I didn't read the other debrick threads, your wrong. I made this new thread because i HAVE tried endlessy every method of debrick on this forum and the internet, and no success. I was messing around with safestrap and decided to try and flash a rom called flashingdroid: for some reason. So i did as usual, boot into recovery(safestrap 3.75) and wipe current os and flash the new one. So i wiped my stock rom(after making a backup) and installed/flashed the new one(flashingdroid) and after seemingly a successful flash, i pressed reboot. Then it went downhill. One second after i pressed reboot, the screen flashed quickly, then shutoff, for good. I couldn't boot it or get into recovery or odin or ANYTHING. I tried the microsd method of debricking with minimal success. It will only give me one vibration, then black scree with that method. Nothing else has worked. I know this was a noob mistake somehow, but does anyone know any special tricks or something? Will a good jig maybe work? I have doubt verizon or samsung will accept it back(it was well rooted!). Please anything/anybody help! I really don't want to buy a new phone or jtag it. Thanks!:crying:
You may have read the debrick threads, but what you should have done from the beginning was read and pay attention to which forum you were in. You flashed a ROM for the International version of the S3 onto your Verizon S3. You almost certainly turned your phone into a shiny paper weight. JTAG may be your only hope. If you don't have one, check out mobiletechvideos.com. I'm not familiar enough with safestrap to know if that may have actually saved you since it is not a traditional recovery and I don't know if it touches all the partitions. In the future, research, research, and research, and pay very close attention to exactly what you are flashing onto your phone. For the Verizon S3, you should only flash ROMs from this sub-forum. And when using safestrap, you are restricted to only flashing ROMs with the same build number as what your phone is currently on in a stock condition.
Ok...Thanks

Confused About What's Possible for Modding a Stock Verizon S3
Can someone please steer me in the right direction? I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 running 4.4.2 stock. I recently rooted my phone, but I realize I am very limited as to any mods I can make due to the locked bootloader. Am I able to modify my OS in some way at all (Safestrap) to make my phone run better, or am I just too late in going about this? I've read so much on this subject, but the more I read, it seems the more confused I get. I want to be careful not to brick my phone and would love to see some precise directions on what I could do. Thanks a million for any help at all!

Funny enough, or not, I posed a related question on another site (initials AC), and it took over 150 views and a week later before anybody offered a reply. I seem to have gotten into big trouble - I hope there's a solution. I learned all about Xposed and installed it along with about a dozen modules. Everything was working great, except the torch/flashlight... [I wanted that! ] so, I saw a download for a module on this forum to fix the flashlight... http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-flashlight-fixer-fix-devices-t2867267 . Well, since doing that, I think I realized that I should have left the flashlight alone! When I tried to reboot after adding the module to xposed, I ended up in what i believe is a boot loop. The Samsung screen comes on, and then it gets stuck on the red Verizon screen. I never dreamed that a module installation could cause this; and I guess I figured if it ever happened I could get into recovery mode and restore everthing. Btw, I had done a complete backup of my phone using Titanium on my sd card.
So, here's what I can/can't do now. I can push "down-volume-button" + home + power to get to screen where you can download a cusom OS - then pushing volume-up-button goes to screen that says "Downloading...Do not turn off target!! (Nothing seems to happen from here.) - - - I cannot enter recovery mode by pressing "volume-up" + home + power keys. When I do that I get the big yellow triangle with message - System software not authorized...go to nearest Verizon store. hmmmm.... So, am I hard bricked or soft bricked? Do I have a way out? Thanks very much for any help with this!

Shapes Blue & Root Wizard,
Thanks much for your replies. Is it possible for me, having had 4.4.3 on phone, to go to 4.3 instead of 4.4.2? Seems some people think that's an advantage, but I'm not sure. If I did do that, could I still run xposed?
Btw, RW, I tried using your idea, but when I was attempting to do the emergency Firmware Recovery, it asked for a computer code...??? So, that method doesn't seem to be a good route for me, but thanks for the tip!

Believe-it-or-not, I still haven't been able to get my s3 back up & running. When I open Odin3 v 3.09 and try to flash the firmware 1534VRUDNE1 . . . . .tar.md5 , it doesn't successfully load to the s3. I've attached a screenshot showing the Odin screen. It show "All threads completed. (succeed 0 failed 1) - btw, when I click on the firmware file within Odin, nothing appears in the box to the right of the AP field; is that correct?
Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

I can't open it. It's in the newest word format docx. I personally haven't had to do this myself and it's been awhile since I've used Odin. Damn MS having to have all files in there own format
Edit: trying to download docs by Google and seeing if it opens

Can you get into recovery?
I was able to open it once I downloaded docs by google. It's been so long since I used it though. I can't recall off hand how to use it to be honest
