Hi, I'm looking for a way to increase number of volume steps on my Verizon S3.
I found the thread that shows how to do this by modifying framework.jar http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42631958. But I always end up with some unexpected top-level exception and bad magic value.
So I'm wondering if there is a volume mod for this phone/rom already since I can't find any.
I'm on CleanROM Seven btw http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832070

Here's another bump for you. I'd like to see a fix for the exception errors.
You could download Music Volume EQ. It allows you to set a DSP which plays your music louder. No root is needed.

In my case, that's not what I want. I want software level step changes. 30 would be a lot nicer than 15.

I honestly do not think you can do that on the S3.
For clarity, are you looking for a method to make the steps smaller between volume levels or are you looking to increase the overall volume of your gs3?
Ex:
GS3 audio starts at 0 db, ends at 90 db, with 15 steps in between - 6 db per step (FYI, these are completely made up numbers)
Are you looking for:
1) 30 steps at 3 db each, making the start and end points the same decibel level?
OR
2) 30 steps at 6 db each, making the start the same (0 db), but increasing the overall volume to 180 db?

I'm looking for the first one: having more volume steps between the start and end points at original decibel levels.
You can do that through and application called. Xposed.

I'm guessing this is the app you are talking about.
I couldn't find modules related to my volume question but it still is a pretty awesome app

In one of the setting in the app, it says you can edit the step through it which will then add it to the framework.

In the app GravityBox, go to Home/ Media Tweaks and the 2nd one down from the top, there should be Volume Steps.

It didn't work for me since my rom's based on 4.1.2.
I think I'll flash other roms with 4.2/4.3 or just wait until S3 gets (hopefully) updated to 4.3.
At least now I know how to do it when I do so Thanks for the help!

I found this "smooth scroll & volume step increase for MOST android phones" but would rather flash a mod if one exists.
Thanks in advance!
Take a look at android tweaker free. I think there's an option to increase volume steps.

Thanks extrem0. I checked out that app. It seems to have a stepper for in call volume. Seems odd that they'd include in call volume stepper but not media etc. =/
Thanks though.

*** DISCONTINUED DUE TO MY TIME RESTRICTIONS***
Hi All,
This is my first thread so please excuse me if I'm breaching any rules.
This is a Volume Boost MOD for SM-900 version of our beloved Note 3. You need a ROOTED Device!
MOD.zip is for a high boost and
MOD_Moderate.zip is for a moderate boost.
MOD_Little.zip is for a little boost. (This is intended to be in between Stock and Moderate)
Note that these are all relative and changes from one's taste to that of another.
This mod increases the Speaker volume when the speaker is on during
- a phone conversation,
- music playback
- Ringtones, notifications..etc
Additionally, there's a slight increase in the wired headphone during Music Playback.
1- BACKUP YOUR ysound.xml file under /system/etc. Then, Unzip the desired MOD provided in zip attached and overwrite ysound.xml file to /system/etc with the file explorer of your choice. Here, I used ES Explorer.
2- Once you're done unzipping and overwriting the existing ysound.xml file select the file then press "More" , then "Properties", then "Change" button for the "Permissions". Apply -rw-r-r-- for the permissions. Attached, you'll see the screenshots for the procedure.
3- Once you make SURE that you followed the instructions, reboot the device.
4- In case you want to come back to the original stock version of the file, either put back your backup or unzip the attached ORIGINAL.zip and apply the above 1 and 2.
Hope this is useful.
PS. Please can someone find out and share what the line 3558 is for in the modded file that I attached? Thank you.
Kartal, thanks for this mod, I think this is also valid for SM-N9000Q for Turkish phones, right?

Yes, this MOD should work on all SM-900 models, including the Turkish SM-N9000Q. Mine is SM-N9000Q and it works flawlessly.
This MOD has nothing to do with the phone ID or firmware (as long as the device is SM-N900). Btw, you can easily change the phone ID.

I adjusted so that the music doesn't get distorted heavily. I suggest that you use it at around 90% volume as it sounds OK to me. Just try it yourself, start from 100% volume and come down gradually until you are happy with the sound.
I am pretty sure it is not gonna break your speakers, at least..

Unfortunately, there's no way to use this MOD without root. There are other apps in Google Play but they work differently (if they work for Note3 at all). This MOD modifies the xml script of Yamaha.

If you are using ES File explorer, for example, you need to enable root function as well: Click Menu, then under Tools enable Root Explorer and click on it, then click Mount R/W, then select all those three items as RW. You're done! Now you can write/delete..etc

Ok I will post a new version with less Boost today.
First, I couldn't decide if this was the best place for this question, so if there is a better place, just let me know.
Does anyone know of a way to increase the number of steps for the volume control. In my office I would like my phone to make sound as I can't always here the phone vibrating. However the first step up on the volume feels kinda loud. I would love it if there was like a half step.
Is there any mod or app that will let me do this? I'm running the CM12 nightly (from 1/30) if it makes a different.
Thanks

This 7 Pro has too many dang volume steps.
30 steps for the volume on the 7 Pro vs only 15 on my Note 9.
Takes an absolute age to adjust the media volume on this phone, LOL! In all seriousness... Is there any way to cut the volume steps in half on this phone? Any module? Custom ROM offer this?

On Havoc you cange the number of steps. You can choose between 5, 7, 15, 30, 45 and 60 for everything (alarm, music, notification, ringer, system, voice call..)
will increasing the steps change the minimum volume level?
Gravity Box lets you change it.
Throw this into your build prop:
Code:
ro.config.media_vol_steps=15
You can change 15 to anything you like.
