I've been using Google contacts and email for some time now and am surprised that there is not a more robust contact management solution from a sales perspective. Most people I think, have a need today to make good searchable notes about the people the they meet, and add reminders to follow-up with certain ones or groups of them.
I was reminded again today how horrible this contact management situation still is today, when I added a contact that I met at a Chumber of Commerce lunch. I remembered "Mark J" which is meaningless to me so I entitled the contact with a two letter code identifying the restaurant where we met, as much of the name I could remember, and relavant details. The title was Db Mark J Owner Limo Svc.
Now what I like about that, is that no longer are you forced to split the name into separate fields because that wouldn't fit.
What I don't like is that when I did a search immediately after adding the name for the word "limo' which is, for crying out loud, in the title of the contact, it did not come up! It wasn't even in the notes or some other field which should also be searchable?
How do others handle this? I know about SalesForce.com and others but monthly commitments are a small business owner's worst nightmare. Is there any way to improve this?
I'd like to at least be able to find a Google contact with a search.
I'd also like to add reminders to follow up on various groups or search matches.
I'd also like to be able let an email campaign interact with them without creating separate lists.
Assistance is greatly appreciated in helping me to get more out of contact management.
Learn java. Create new contacts app.
Or contact Google..

Hi,
Sorry if this is the wrong forum, feel free to move my topic.
On my Android phone (Motorola Milestone) I have several apps that integrate into Contacts: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, LastFM.
Android makes a good effort in merging the contacts automatically, or I can merge them manually. Some people compain about the automatic merge and I know about the bug reports, but for me it's good enough.
What bothers me however, is that I cannot set what type of contact has "priority". For example, I have a merged contact that consists of a Gmail contact (containing full name, address, phone, email), a Twitter contact (containing nickname, full name, profile pcture) and a Facebook contact (containg full name, phone, email, profile picture). In the Android contacts list this person may be shown as either with his full name or his nickname. It is completely random. I have not found a way to force this merged contact to be shown with full name. I just want an option to say "this person is called X, dammit".
Any ideas?
I'm sorry but... *bump* ?
same here.
It is driving me crazy.
Any solution?
Running Milestone 2.1
Yeah, would love to know this as well!
Thanks!

Would love to get a fix for this too!!

I'm now running Froyo on my Milestone, but I still haven't found a way to do this.
Yet another *bump*
I'm going to try something incredibly dirty: install the .apk of the HTC contacts app, because this allows to set the visible name.
Is there no app on the market that allows easy editing of contacts?
Anyone tried any apps and if so then why not post the app name and whether it was useful or otherwise. That could help everyone else trying to solve their contacts cloud issues.

Well I am an Android migrant as of last week and I am loving the overall experience, especially the large community of savvy developers.
Now regarding Sense and it's pesky contact book sync issues.
First issue is, I don't want any of my Google contacts syncing with my phonebook or any part of my phone for that matter as I don't maintain that address book. Second of all when I pull up the Phone application the entire list is populated with every one of my Facebook friends who has ever entered a contact number (including 1800suckmyballs).
I am looking for a solution to remedy this situation but also still be able to associate individual contacts with a Facebook profile. Anyone out there that knows the ins-and-outs of Sense better? Can you give me a hand?
Regards, Dom
Hello all, I was going through my contact list on my EVO and thought what a great idea it would be to save multiple images to a single contact. This would be especially helpful when you travel a good deal. I meet new people all the time and if i could have multiple pictures of that particular person saved to one contact it would make it much easier to remember the acquittance.
Another use, someone asks who are you talking to. You show the contact and scroll through the images.
What do you all think, it shouldn't be too hard but then again I am not a developer.
its terrible that Google hasnt incorporated this into the standard contacts
5 years later and we can still only put 1 pic per contact?
crazy
Multi Photos Contact
Check this out....
When defining relationships within contacts, I can never pick my own contact. When editing my own contact, I can not even add a relationship field. I can define relationships between other contacts, but can not define anything for myself.
How can I define my own relationships? I know I can use Ok Google to chose contacts to call when telling it to call my spouse for example, but how can I actually store that information within her profile like I can for all other contacts other than my own?
What relationship do you have with yourself? Friend? Spouse? Family?
It's you, you do not have a relationship with yourself
The reason you can add relationships to other contacts is because that field is what relationship YOU have with them
So for wife you would put "Spouse" as that is your relationship with her
You would not have anything to add to your own contact unless you married yourself
The reason you can add relationships to other contacts is because that field is what relationship YOU have with them

But that would mean that I would have to be able to select myself in that list when defining relations - and that's not possible.
So all I can do is define relations between other contacts. For example I can edit my spouses profile, chose father and select my spouses fathers contact and that will work.
So for wife you would put "Spouse" as that is your relationship with her

Simply chosing spouse without entering any name does not work - and my own contact is not available to select.
Am I missing something here?
Btw, I am using the default Samsung Contacts, not Google Contacts if that makes a difference.

Sorry yes you are right (partially), I remembered it wrongly, you can choose a contact to add as a relationship to another contact, but you can also choose yourself as that contact
I've just added myself as brother to my brothers contact, and also spouse to my gf's contact
It did however use my Gmail contact, not the one I have saved as my own main contact on the phone
Try adding yourself as a contact to your Google contacts first
(Also using Samsung contacts app)
When in my own main contact for myself, it has an option "My Relationships" under the main picture, with a + in a circle to add people to, I have added my gf as spouse to my own contact and it works fine, when you hit the + to add more, it opens your contact details where you can add multiple relationships

I agree with Detection, all of your contacts orbit around you. You define all other contacts in your universe and how close an orbit they have near you. You are the center of the universe. You are the all important one. Your contacts bow to your omnipotent awesomeness.
Feel the power of the dark side.
Right now I exclusively use Telegram for participating in online communities that interest me, where I do not know any of the other users in real life. When I get notifications that someone I know in real life, whose phone number is in my contacts, has joined Telegram it has bothered me that this blurs the line between my real life identity and the online pseudonym I use - as I expect that they see my username and it may be quite confusing to them who I am.
I have also been reading how Telegram is increasing in popularity which is great but if there is widespread general adoption separating my real life contacts from my online communities at a late point will be even more difficult.
It seems the best option would be a second account but that every Telegram account requires a unique phone number - is there some way around this, or is there some way I can set up a second account without having to set reactivate an old SIM by topping it up, and continuing to top it up every few months to keep the provider from - required at least by Vodafone Ireland? Perhaps there is some kind of online SMS phone number I could use free or for a once off fee that would allow me to see receive email or web based SMS?
