A question about the ROM,do I have to S-OFF my phone to install this ROM,because of the bootanim that was changed to old.splatterhand's bootanim.I went to the old.splatterhand's bootanim page and saw that S-OFF is required to install the bootanim. So I'm just curious to know if I'm required to S-OFF my phone to install this ROM.Also, how do I backup my app data and all the other important data like messages,contacts,Wi-Fi passwords etc.?Can I do it via CWM recovery and can I restore it after installing a new custom ROM?
The S-Off is from a time, where we had no kernel that removes write protection. I think i have to remove it
You can install the rom also when you are S-On.
For the backup:
You can make a backup in your recovery. This will save the state it actually is and restores (if needed) the same state, 1:1.
Also useful, a backup tool, like Titanium Backup. This app makes a backup of all of your data, apps, messages,contacts,Wi-Fi passwords etc.
Both is recommended!
If I restore the backup from my CWM recovery, does it restore the stock apps too? What is dalvik by the way?

Use google for dalvik, i can't explain.
I recommend TWRP recovery. There you can choose what you want to backup and restore.
Hey can you give me another link to this ROM I don't understand French

Hi.
For the S-off thing, just follow what's said in the rom thread, no need to s-off, the bootanim is included in the rom, that's it.
For the french thing, just read the thread again, i added an instruction on how to download.
Quick question : why didn't you write your questions directly in the jbstocklight rom thread instead of creating a new one ?

Hi,
I used CF-ROOT for I9003 on my GF's 9003, however, I found that it include the CWM recovery and it overwrite the original recovery. Why not deploy a simple root like 9001 did.
Following is the root file for 9001, you can just flash the zip file in recovery.
Easy ROOT/UNROOT from Recovery Mode
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253707
Do yo want to brick ours phones? Flashing things form i9001?
Do a search, a simple root .zip is available, but you need a CWM recovery to install it.
Other than that, try super one click. V 1.95 seems to work if not the latest version.
What's wrong with CWM though? It doesn't change much and adds a more comprehensive recovery module over a stock kernel. Cf-root uses the same but adds root and other enhancements.
And please post any questions to the general section henceforth.

I can't use Rebooter now(a application which can restart, power off the phone without the physical power button)
BTW, it seems the root for 9003 is different on differemt ROM, however, I can use the one for 9001 on all Roms.
Please post questions in the general section....

Does stock recovery can do nandroid backup and restore?
If both answer is yes, then I think the installation can be done by manual.
The big question is
Will it work?

The answer is yes or no.
The beginning your system seems okay. But who knows then two or three days later you found problem, like:
bootloop
can not install more application
can not running some application force close
If something **** happen, the effective and efficient from my opinion to restore totally your handphone is by using nandroid backup, which is supported in CWM.

after flashing the new rom i have to reinstall and reconfigure all the apps right?
do i have to manually remove the one installed on the sd card?
can i create a backup image to restore the phone as it is now?
thanks in advance if someone will answer these silly questions

Yes you should backup all your apps before a new rom. For that you should use titanium backup application(keep the apk file of it app in ur sd card). Backup all your apps using the batch backup option in the app. Then after installing new rom just install titanium backup app and restore all your apps. And about contacts, copy all your contacts to sim.
nice thanks!
didn't know i could restore the apps on a different rom
now i'll try to find a way to do a complete backup of gingerbread to restore in case i want to revert to the original rom
You can backup entire gb stock rom, as an "image", using pratyush's modded version of cwm5...

my question is i am planning to install this sense 4 rom by derefas
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943775
why do i have to create "YOU NEED TO CREATE SD-EXT PARTITION BEFORE FLASHING 512MB MIN" ? for this rom and can i create this partion with the help of recovery
so i am currently on stock rom and will be rooting so Do i have to install some diffrent recovery to install this rom ? or the recovery A310E Recovery.zip will be fine
what about kernel do i have to flash diffrent kernel or the kernel is provided in the rom and if not then which kernel should i flash?
And if suppose i want to return to stock rom i found this link of stock roms http://www.mediafire.com/?qwr4n3phnfr4a
should i flash directly this roms to return to stock without unlocking the boot loader ?
And if suppose i made some mistakes and i am unable to acess the recovery is there any way that i can flash the stock rom ?
new to the Htc family coming from xperia
Thanks in advance
FD1999 said:
SD-Ext: You don't need, but it is recommended. And you are normally able to do so using recovery
The kernel is included in the ROM, no need to flash another one. But if you want, you can flash another kernel after flashing the ROM.
And installing one custom recovery is enough.

copy it to your phone using the USB cable or download it to your phone. If you don't have access to your OS, push it to your phone with ADB. It's like any other file you would transfer to your phone.. And run it from TWRP or CWM recovery.

I personally haven't tried out 4.3 yet, but I'm not impressed by reports so far, that and it seems to be in it's early stages, like when 4.2 first came out it was full of bugs for a lot of phones.
Personally Magio R3 JB 4.22 and JMZ kernel have worked pretty much flawlessly for me. With a few extra tweaks and mods it does everything i could want it to and I do a lot with my phone. 4.3 is still buggy with a lot of apps, although app devs are updating quickly. And with all that said 4.4 may be around the corner.

Titanium Backup is your best bet for backup and restore of USER apps, restoring a "missing" system app to a new ROM is NOT a good idea, especially if the backup is from an odexed stock rom.
Your contacts are synced to your GMAIL account, so no need to backup, but if you want to have a copy, export to vcf format from contacts settings, manage contacts menu.
For SMS, i'd recommend either Super Backup : SMS & Contacts, or SMS Backup & Restore - both are available free from Play Store....
4.3 isn't that bad, better than 4.2.2, but poor in comparrison to kitkat 4.4.2 - sooo sweet!
Oh, I'd advise downloading deodexed ROMs

No, there is no 4.4 source available for the mini..... I run it on my Nexus 7 2013
The one mini should start receiving 4.4.2 sometime during February, but dates will vary by network..... As soon as someone gets the update and provides a system dump, we can start building ROM's.....
