[RECOVERY] CWM for NVIDIA SHIELD - Shield Original Android Development

ClockworkMod Recovery for NVIDIA SHIELD
* Full support for DPAD, as well as A/B buttons
http://goo.im/devs/agrabren/shield/cwm/recovery.img

Changelog:
1.1:
* Fixed details to support official OTAs
1.0:
* Initial Revision

Thanks once again for all of your work on Shield!

Just tested, seems to be working fine. Great job using the joypad and A/B buttons for control. Strangely the home button also moves selection up.
Rooting and backup have just become easier! :victory:

That's because HOME always had a default action. I didn't replace those, but I may in the future.

Awesome... This works like charm!...

It should, but I intend to verify this soon. I *may* modify it a bit so that any "automatic" updates require you to accept them instead of just silently updating, for those who root their devices and such, and don't want an OTA to blast it without being near a computer.

We NEED OTA RootKeeper to update to support 4.3... Then that wouldn't be a problem! haha. That restored root on my Prime MANY TIMES.

Actually, it'd be trivial to modify CWM to maintain itself during an OTA (by preventing the flashing of the recovery partition) as well as to re-inject root on the device after the OTA.

Hello will you be releasing a stock recovery as well? Just in case we want to go back =)
I see you factory images only have boot & system at the moment.
Thanks

wow, thats not nice of them. they gave smart stay but no smart rotation?? how is project butter?
Overall it seems fine. I like that they are going on Holo more but the toggles seems ugly. What you pretty much saw on S3 is there. Some changes here and there but overall it's great.
Has anyone tried the old root method? I don't want to risk bricking it.

as far as mods go, this is from the stock firmware so any mods that are being made for the new nexus 7 should work fine (for example the advanced power menu that i added). that goes for kernels too, those are device specific, not rom specific

Xposed works on 4.3. You have to install 2.1.4 then flash a zip in recovery.
I'm not sure if you just missed them or what, but some of the Google apps you said you had removed are still in the zip. Currents, Earth, Ears, Games, and then I stopped looking. It's not a big deal, I'm removing them from the downloaded zip, but I wanted to let you know!
And in advance, thanks for the ROM.

well this is based on the released firmware, if there is a patch out there for that, i will see if i can get it included, otherwise i will wait for the next firmware update which will probably have it in there.
no my next release would be a couple of mods im working on, which in reality can be zip files to flash so you wont need to reinstall or reflash the whole thing, but will also be added to the rom as well for anyone who has not tried this one yet

I also have Sprint. I should be able to flash the "recovery" image (not the boot) that you provided and then backup the boot partition from recovery correct?
Also, can your boot image (the one you would make for Sprint) work WITH encryption? I just spent the entire weekend setting up my device and do NOT want to reset to factory.

Bugs:
1. In call audio is not working yet.
2. No data on Boost Mobile variant, maybe others let me know your carrier/device model and if you have data or not.
3. Video playback isn't working unless you flash the attached zip.
4. You tell me.
A little heads up about no navbar when you first boot this rom. You'll have to go into settings and enable it. I'll get that straightened out asap. Enjoy!

Your already a tester. Look at the very bottom of the op, if you see the rom labeled as alpha, testing, or beta rather than stable it probably has some bugs.
Edit: if you really want to be a tester and want to help make things stable, learn how to take proper logs to post when reporting bugs. You can find some info here: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...-DPIQFggmMAA&usg=AOvVaw2dZ_hJNSt4D8sxgFatmSvv
There's are plenty of other tutorials floating around also.
i cant get it to boot, it wont let me use su or magisk because it corrupts the boot.img so i boot it without it and it just bootloops for me.

Why? The only meaningful thing you get from TWRP is scripts and backuptools. These come with gapps, so backuptool isn't required.

And it makes it so easy that people are more willing to try out the latest ROM just for kicks. Knowing that I can get back to square one in about 5 minutes, I'll be much more willing to test drive the latest ROM or beta release. As it is now, it might take 45 minutes to flash a stock factory image and you still have to reinstall all your apps.

I'm waiting to get some hands-on time with one (haven't managed that yet), and to pull the trigger on the phone itself (Just Black). I'm grabbing a complete set of images - current stock, latest Q, current DU - so I can rotate among them during June and find one I can settle with, then set up a DU build shop so I can scratch that self-maintainer itch.
I assume flashing this Rom you'd lose the Pixel only features like Call Screen, Now Playing, Night Sight, etc?

According to another poster in this thread, the ROM uses the stock camera. So I don't think you would lose nightsight or any of the other camera specific modes.

These AOSP ROMs are simply debloated optimized stock ROMs with various additional feature sets, anywhere from a few extra tweaks to massive customizations.
Feature set changes are listed on their site, but no comprehensive list for any device...
