Why games like this ? - General Questions and Answers

Hi Guys
I think the games are too slow on android with medium ram like 512mb ram even in iPhone4 and 4s and even windows phone phpnes like lumia phpnes with 512 ram and the games too smooth and much faster but in android too lagy and you need to clear mempey close apps then lanch the game but it will return to be laggy cuz the apps will relaunxh automatically what is the reason i think the reason its by keep the apps launched in background please i need opinions and replies

512 is not medium ram. That is the minimum ram android needs to run. You will not be able to do alot with a such a low end device.

And even the windows phone and iOS can't run modern games on 512 MB of ram... Not well anyways

512mb is the absolute bargain basement low-end amount of ram that you're going to get in an Android phone these days. There's really no reason to be using a phone like that anymore, especially if you're into gaming. Even my son's piece-of-crap LG Viper has 1gb of ram. I guarantee you can get a better phone than you're using off eBay for not much money.

Probably because the iPhone runs a totally different OS than an Android phone. Apple optimized the crap out of the OS to prioritize a consistently smooth UI at the expense of a lot of other things.

Looks like the Optimus 3D will be heading to AT&T as LG Thrill 4G. While I'm not sure if I would get this over the SG2, but I'm glad to see AT&T selection for Android phones are getting bigger.
Its the quickest phone so far according to these benchmarks my only beef is that it only has 512mb of ram, i was hoping for a gig. If the bootloader is unlocked this will probably be my next phone, no more samsung for me.
The wife and I are up for upgrades now, it will be this or the SGSII. You guys may not like Samsung, but mine ( captivate ) works great.
Hope they both release soon.

You know, I've seen similar benches w/ the same result. The Atrix & the Galaxy II both have more RAM then the 3D. I guess 512 is really all any Android dual core phone needs?

It's all it needs to run a single benchmark app. It needs more when you start running a couple of apps that use more memory and it starts closing apps you were using but sent to background. I'll fall back to my old example on my Captivate. When playing poker, I'd set a timer on my phone for blinds, but then I'd go to the browser and watch a live sporting event using Flash which obviously uses quite a bit of memory. The browser alone would use enough memory to close my timer app in order to get more memory, which would mean the timer would never go off.
That's just one time where it was really noticeable, but as apps get bigger and more complex, this will continue to happen more and more frequently. I'm really torn now because I like the idea of the 3D screen, but the 512 MB of memory is a big big negative to me. SGS2 or Thrill? Might just have to wait for the next big thing after that.

I see exactly what you mean. Then I suppose all the benches I've seen are restricted to a device's CPU & graphical abilities? I know that desktop benches test everything- I guess that's not the case here w/ smart-phones & their integrated RAM?

Most benchmarks test memory performance, but there isn't really a test for memory capacity since it already has a set value (the total capacity). The memory performance on this phone will probably be great since they said they are doing dual channel, but I just worry if 512 is enough.
AJerman, thanks for the explanation. I'll need to look into this a bit more in terms of what benchmark the media selects to adequately test smart phones. Considering the small footprint apps take in mobile OSs, I suppose apps will eventually list on their product page that a certain amount of free memory must be available in order for it to function properly.
Wait why would you rather get the GS2 over the Thrill? They both have daul core processors, and TI processor in the Thrill seems to be very good. Not only that, they are both 4g. Is the only reason you would prefer the GS2 the RAM? The Thrill had 512 MB RAM, right? how much do you expect form the GS2? 712 MB? I mean, how much of a difference will that make?

The SGS2 will have 1GB. I have 512 MB in my Captivate right now and I run out of memory, thus, I can only assume with 512 in the Thrill, I would run out of memory.
If you are running out of memory with 512mb ram then something is very wrong.
Are you using a task-killer or custom rom?
I have the vibrant and after owning the nexus one I feel my vibrant is more nicer lol. I don't plan on getting rid.of.it.

Negative, lets do a little breakdown on Android memory here.
512 MB in the phone. A large chunk of that is reserved and the user never sees it. As it stands, I see 342 MB of RAM available for use. Now, that 342 is spread across all running services. Lots of apps stay resident unless the memory is needed. This improves load time for the apps, but they will close if memory starts getting low. Then you have your background services. These are still running and will stay running even in low memory unless you reach a critical point where they have to close too. So it's hard to tell how much you really have free. Right now my phone says I have about ~100 MB free.
Now, open up your web browser and load a Flash video. Good ole Adobe and the memory hogging Flash Player. Flash uses a TON of memory, so you can go ahead and say goodbye to most of what you have free. If you have something else running in the background and it's staying resident in the memory for quick start up, there's a good chance it's going to get killed to free memory for the web browser/Flash Player. If you need memory enough, some background services might even get killed as in the example where my timer app was getting killed when I ran a live flash video from the browser.
Thus, 512 MB isn't enough for phones now and the future. It was okay in the last generation of phones, but these new phones with dual core CPUs are only going to have more and more complex apps, and it's going to be more than Flash that's using a large chunk of memory.

Opinions On 1gb Ram Performance in Android?

So how yall liking 1gb of ram on your android devices? I wanna hear some opinions from you guys plus this is an interesting topic lol. I own an Acer Iconia A100. It has 1gb of Ram but 512mb is what's recognized in the OS. I personally think 1gb is fine for a tablet but I would love more lol as sometimes my background tasks get killed for no reason. And btw 512mb of ram is just horrible on android (I own a galaxy s n man ram is such a down side on that phone). So tell me ur opinions
P.S this thread is intended for people who have devices with 1gb ram. But your more than welcomed to post opinions if your device has less or more ram
Love it. Not really to much more to say.
Device - Razr.
On phones it's more than enough but tablets should have 2gb.

Meh, you can go overkill like I did.
My gaming rig has 32GB of RAM (it was a sale, 4x8GB, I couldn't resist), which is total overkill.
But I can keep like 10 million programs open.. amazing.

I own an Iconia A100 and it does in fact have 1GB of RAM, 512MB of it is used for the tegra graphics. My Nexus S has 512MB of RAM and it runs I've Cream Sandwich perfectly.
More RAM is always nice but thanks to Android being based on the great Linux, RAM goes further than you'd think.

Well as long as your processor is fast enough.
I think the trick is to make a lighter and less demanding OS and not to play catch up with the ram and CPU speeds. Eventually a phone will be 10core, 10 gig ram etc lol I definitely don't think that is the way to go
Agreed, its comparable to the O.S. and what is running. You could have 2 gigs but have a hog of an O.S. and it will seem sluggish.

True lol but the real problem here is that the ram is shared all the time which means you have less accesable ram. For example my tablet has 1gb of ram but only 512mb is recognized cuz the rest is reserved for the gpu.

[Q] About available ram?

Hi! I would really like to buy this tablet but I heard from somewhere that the tegra 3 gpu and cpu needs 500mb of ram so that there would be only a half gig left to system.
So could somebody tell me what the available ram is for real on that tablet and is the amount of ram enough? And also is tf700 really worth the money?
Thanx in advance

You shouldn't judge it on how much ram it has left. RAM can be used to pre cache apps so theres no loading time. Different manufactures tweek the way android handles RAM. A tablet with less available RAM can run faster than one with more available RAM

There's not a lot that you can do to clog up the available RAM on this thing anyways....Even if you had 500MB available, what kind of applications can actually fill up that space?

I don't know how much RAM is being used, they're not available in the US quite yet. I can only guess that the system will use 500MB or less. On my Bionic, I don't have a big problem of not having enough RAM, so I don't expect it on the tablet (especially since the OS on the tablet is much cleaner than on my phone).
Worth the money? That's up to you. It has the best specs on the market right now and has the awesome keyboard dock, so I think it's worth it.
Listen to ian1, he had something important to say.
Also remember that Android has its own way of not only freeing memory used by running and idle processes, but also of managing various kinds of memory - it is not free/used dichotomy, you have to count in shared and buffered memory (you can actually see it in various OSs nowadays). I have about half of Infinity's 1GB RAM available normally (and right now), which is AFAIU free+buffered mainly.
The TF300 has a LOT of ram available on boot up. Almost a full GB I think.
Free ram is NOT a good indicator of how fast/usable your device is. Android is based on Linux, which has a philosophy of free ram is wasted ram. That is, your device will actually be faster if its ram is full. This is why task killers are considered to be so bad on Android. Just let Android manage itself and don't worry about it.
Ok thanks all I think i'm buying the tf300

Why do androids need so much power?

I know there is a thread about this somewhere, but i wanted to ask this in our forum (rethorical question)
Why are companies making 4 core cpu and 2 gb ram phones, i mean with those spec are ridiculous, you could play 8 different android games at an instance or have 40 background apps
Our pico i a great example, it works on games flawlessly, i can't say what i can't do on it
I dont even know a 512mb ram <1ghz single core phone which would lag at multi tasking, web browsing, office, gaming 'n stuff
our pico got scorpion cpu which is good for multitasking
our device is best in its range

Only problem for me are flash videos or high bandwith videos.. for example watching sports streams.. 500-1000 kbps is OK, but over 1000 lags too much.. 2000 kbps videos in Sopcast won't even run.
So I would like to have some faster CPU/more RAM, but I still like this phone so I am not considering buying a new one yet..

I think prob is with android coding. You see wp8 you can't just have any lag with try as you might and ios and bb10 seem to run perfectly with their respective configuration. That is why I am sick of android and am going to buy a Nokia lumia 820 or iPhone 4.

Going to buy S7. Is it worth it?

Hi. After a year of having my S5 mini I am done. It is old and using 2012 processor in 2016 is not a good idea. So I looked at the phones and I decided to buy S7(Exynos model) for a quite some time.
BY YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE, can you say:
Will it run 3D (like C-OPS) games on max graphics on 60FPS?(Or 60FPS at all?(with low graphics etc.))
What are the most common bugs/glitches/problems on it?
Are they that bad that you would recommend to avoid S7?
If the device is not good by your opinion, can you suggest a different one?
Is it worth the price?
Why do I ask these specific questions? Because I don't have enough money to change the phone every year or even earlier so I want to have high end device that would handle minimum 2 years.
P.S.(if it will help) I can pick it up at electronics shop in my country for 400 euro(discount!).

I think the phone is worth the price, but you also have the one plus 3.. s7 runs all games on max graphics easily.
Im in love with the phone and im sure that it will last few years
And.. I bought it one month ago and until now i had 0 bugs and errors.. non rooted btw

I found my s7 overheating at first but then I under clocked it a bit(STILL VERY FAST AND SMOOTH) and my issue was solved. You can also try coolify.
If you ask me, yes, it is worth buying if you have a 3 year old, slow smartphone, due for an upgrade and features like 'Better Low Light Photography' and 'Water Resistance'. The phone definitely looks promising enough and looks absolutely beautiful. Consider your pros and cons budget wise, but I think it's definitely worth the buy.

Those apps are all bull****, stay away from such stuff. The only way to lower heat is to lower performance, some apps might be able to underclock the CPU or change governor but those that claim to lower heat without root are just shady apps.
on topic: I bought the flat s7, exynos variant too and well, I'm not disappointed at all so far. Screen is amazing as expected, wifi/data speeds are top notch, battery is surprisingly good and most bloatware can easily be disabled now even without root thanks to this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro (careful with what you disable, some apps are obviously necessary for the phone to function and disabling them can result in features not working or even bootlops, make sure you know what it is you're disabling)
as for cons, well the price will always sting so there's that, it also seems like the GPU on the exynos variant is slightly weaker than the one in the snapdragon variant but I'm not a big gamer so I can't comment much on that and it can occasionally stutter a bit if you're performing certain tasks, like having multiple apps updating while gaming or right after you apply a new theme but those are special occasions where the CPU is obviously being stressed. Day to day usage, there's not much if any lag at all.

What about RAM? How much is left for the user? I heard that's only 1GB... Now you will say "That's enough RAM!" It is. But the fact that 4GB RAM device leaves only 1GB free is unbelievable.
My Windows 8 PC x64 uses only 2GB when no apps are running. And my old Vista x32 used 900MB only! Even my S5 mini with Touchwiz when no apps are running uses 800MB or even lower. I even got 563MB RAM using only some time in its life. I don't know what the problem is but I think this is all Samsung's fault. Like why the hell they need to modify Android so much?! Just create a slightly modified Stock ROM with some additional apps like Smart Manager and Galaxy Apps and change to Samsung wallpapers and that's it.

You can't compare ram manager of Windows and Android systems, very different! In Android free ram is a wasted ram! So..... more stuff in ram....more quickly it opens app or background process, if the user needs more ram to open a hungry app the system will close other stuff to satisfy the user needs. Is this really important in the rom....ram manager! Samsung have to do a good job to give us a very tune and balance ram manager for the system running smoothly.

Just use Stock ROM with some additional apps like Smart Manager and Galaxy Apps then change wallpapers and that's it.

Yes.
You have Smart Manager in TW. It will tell you current usage and provide a facility to reclaim RAM if needed.
I have between about 1.6 and 2.3 gb free, depending on usage.

You are talking about Snapdragon(US) or Exynos(EU) variant? Because that's what I am going to buy because I don't live in US which is kinda sad.

Doesn't matter. Both run the same TW.
